What are you on about?

The winters are usually bad, but not bad enough to cancel elective operations.

This year is bad enough to have delayed elective surgeries.

This is quite straightforward.

No they were cancelled because of this MENTAL WAVE that didn't happen and now we've got an enormous, self-inflicted backlog that was created of our own making. The irony is now there is a WAVE, which we, still, after all these years, aren't prepared for.

They were cancelled because staff vital to running theatres, like anaesthetists, had to be redeployed to support higher ITU capacity.

Yeah I mean it's almost like the NHS should have been telling the government for the last six years that they are at breaking point whilst the government continued to underresource them.

Why are people so desperate not to accept the reality of the situation?

We've just had to ship a load of patients in from Essex because their hospitals are completely overwhelmed.

I have emails every day asking people if they can take on any more overtime because we are now getting overwhelmed also.

A couple of weekends ago there were adult wards with one nurse for the entire ward (30+) patients. Do you have literally any idea how I manageable that is?

It is getting really bad, if it isn't there already. But nah you all sit safe in your rooms watching Netflix and making snide comments. You're like spoilt toddlers.

Beyond the fact there's a little bit of baiting going on, you need to accept the fact it's not just you and your camp buddies breaking into tears at having to do some work that are finding this difficult.

Firstly, I'm not the one coming on here day after day telling everyone how it's not that bad for you. I've never even spoken about it being hard for me, because frankly I've got off easy so far. I'm just pushing back against the constant insinuation that the NHS are just moaning. They aren't. It is bad. Friends and colleagues are suffering.

Secondly, NHS workers are having to deal with everything you are, plus what it entails being a health care professional in this. So yeah, it probably is harder for 'us'.

Show a bit of humanity for once. Or at least just shut up with the nonsense conspiracy theories.

I chat to a Slovakian bloke online who has always seemed like a lovely bloke. Turns out he’s mental:

BTW, can you tell me about the current situation in UK? I heard the usual media bla bla about the new mutated corona version, but has it REAL impact? I am not speaking about the bullshits spoken on TV but if you know somebody from your surrounding who died on muttated corona flu or suffered very much or so...

because franly speaking, Here in Slovakia we didn`t even know anybody with corona experience untill November when the mandatory mass testing of all people in Slovakia aged 18-65 too place. There we have been infected and since then I know dozens of people who had corona. Most of them did not even knw they have it because did not notice anything unusual, anything unusual comparing with any other flu they experienced in the times before corona already.

I know personally 2 people who had more complicated recovery from corona but all other people I was speaking with told me it was not different to normal flu. Some of those people were tested possitive but did not have any symptoms. Felt absolutely heathy. Those official sttatistics are total lies. Practically almost nobody here trusts to the media and is watching TV news anymore. They are saying how we are heavy impacted by corona and have thousands of deaths, but NOBODY knows anyone who really died on corona, neither anybody who would have really complicated recovery from the corona infection.

So I am curious if the new mutated corona flu suddenly discovered in southern UK before X-mas (why exactly there and how did it come there to the isolated island NOW when traveling across the world is stopped? :-)) is some real infection with more serious impact on patients or it is just the same HOAX spread by official media as the "original" "old" corona version from March?

I am considerably more scared from uprising fascism covered up by corona hygienical restrictions than from corona itself. BTW, here in SLovakia the former highets chief of all policemen Milan Lucansky nominated by the previous pre-corona govt was fired by the new corona government (elected in March 2020) in AUgust 2020 and was taken into invetsigative prison oOn December 3rd 2020 when he was occused from corruption. He came there being convinced he is innocent and will proove it. On December 13th he has according to the official report accidentally inured himself when he was doing his exercise in the jail fitness gym. By this self-accident he has broken bone on his head and has lost one eye. On December 30th he was found dead in his jail cell. Officially committed suicide, but even if there are still people whose still believe corona is really dangerous for society and all these fascistic measures are adequate, but absolutely nobody believes the former highest boss of all cops in SLovakia has ripped his eye off when buy doing bench press neither commited suicide. It is clear political murder exactly like during the reign of Hitler, Stalin or Pinochete... And there is total silence about this case. Outside of Slovakia nobody even mentioned this happened here.. Totall media embargo. Neither in neighbouring Czech Republic or in Orban`s Hungary which is together with Poland officially "against" the main stream of Bruxelles. Not a single word.

On friday Lucansky has funeral and our government has forbidden to all people v to visit cemetaries. Not more than 6 people are allowed to be at the cemetery at the sam etime now. It`s all only because of the funeral when thosuands of people wanted to come to express their sorrow after very good and publicly respected police chief and also express their antipathy against the current government..

Pure fascism hidden behind the corona cover up is being spread through the world.

Fucking bad times are comming... :-(

God save FootballGlory, one of the few bright things from the pre-corona times we have not been robber for yet..

I only expect online gaming will be forbidden too in order to stop spreading the corona virus across the borders :-)

(Football Glory is the online football management game we play.)

I’m kinda put off talking to him now, and have no idea how to respond. :uhoh:

It seems to be a situation where having 27 countries in the room becomes a weakness rather than a strength.

Did, as some are claiming, the EU sign deals for vaccines too late? Most of the deals were completed by early August — the Commission just didn’t get EU countries’ sign-off until months later.

It is true that the U.K. and U.S. were able to vaccinate hundreds of thousands of people before European regulators approved the first coronavirus vaccine. There are a few reasons for this, most notably that the European Medicines Agency recommended a conditional marketing authorization, which comes with more strings attached for drugmakers than the British emergency authorization procedures. As a result, if there are any unforeseen issues with the vaccines, the U.K. government will be held liable; while in the EU, drugmakers would be on the hook.

It also takes longer because it requires input from every EU country. Countries largely held firm in their support for this process throughout December, but as they saw footage of Brits and Americans getting vaccinated, the likes of Hungary, Poland, Germany and Italy pushed the EU to go faster.

The EMA moved its recommendation dates forward and the Commission streamlined its authorization process from days to hours, but it seems likely the EU's process will continue to take longer as other countries issue emergency authorizations.

The next decision for the EMA will be on Moderna's vaccine this week, although the American company has limited production capacity in the EU.

The EMA is also conducting rolling reviews of the Oxford/AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines (although the former has not formally submitted a conditional marketing authorization application, which might cause delays).

You're allowed out to exercise once per day, you can travel within your local area to do so and you're allowed to meet up to exercise with one other.

What blind bit of difference does it make? Were you flying the drones for that police force spying on the walkers in the middle of nowhere last year?

Missus is still rough as fuck, comes in waves, its a weird thing. I developed symptoms yesterday, never felt tiredness like this. Walking upstairs and I'm knackered and out of breath. Test sent off today.

The things a bastard.

That’s what I had. I’d walk up the stairs and felt like I’d just done a round with Tyson and took me a good 6 weeks to feel right again. Hope you feel better soon.

The answer within the article is of course 'No', but that hasn't stopped them from slapping another scary headline front and centre.

Some government adviser's comments on Radio 4 have got the Guardian running with "calls for tighter lockdown restrictions in UK" :happycry:

Tighter than this? I genuinely don't think they could enforce anything much tighter than this, they don't have the manpower.

I was surprised to see queues around the corner for Costa Coffee in Chertsey this week (mainly because people in Chertsey usually drink toad's blood and stagnant rain water) but I somehow doubt 2m distanced outdoor queues are hotbeds of transmission anyway.

These coffeshops are absolutely loving this 12 months. So much so they may just be able to overlook the tragic loss of those highly respectable people who go there for 6 hours to show off their Apple merch and drink 1 coffee.

It's ridiculous, isn't it.

I've only just woken up today, so I might have dreamt this, but I swear I saw a news report a couple of days ago with a doctor screaming that people were coming in and dying in their 40s, 30s and 20s. In his one hospital? Give over.

They can't enforce this now. It's only sort of working through our consent, which is of course being given by a lot of people through fear.

Those that aren't scared or don't feel they have a moral obligation to follow rules are just cracking on, which is why we have so many cases and deaths.

They're not. People are just ignoring rules and have been for ages. I can't really blame them, but I really don't want to hear any criticism of the government for deaths this time round as I reckon the vast majority of them are on us.

Also, fucking lol at this graph and the other one below it from Jim's link lumping 15-44 year olds together in one category.

That BBC article sort of hints at more 45-64 year olds being admitted and winding up on ventilators. But age without context is nothing. Especially when the graph above it (and now above me, Yev) barely hints at change. And if admissions and infections are up, the sheer volume will make it appear younger demographics are being affected.

You didn't dream it, I saw the same report. One person's anecdotal experience doesn't trump the mountains of data that say otherwise. He sounded like a twat.

The BBC, running short of material seemingly, have batched up all of today's gloom in one tidy soundbite package, brought to you here (front and centre of course).

Meanwhile, the news that "every adult will be offered a vaccine by autumn", only makes it to the top of the live page.
