I would echo this.
The scenes from Soho yesterday looked quality though. Probably had that weird 'what's going on vibe' not seen since those hazy mornings in 2002 when everyone bowled out of the pub at 8.30am having just watched Beckham sink the Argies and had no idea what to do with themselves.

Giggles is right though I have seen loads of twats early doors giving it the big one about mental health. A girl I know, who was at one time the most legendary slag ever to frequent the night life in my home town, went on holiday with her new fella just as this all got serious, leaving her mum to look after her 6 month old baby while they went to Thailand. Then panicked about coming back, managing to get on the last passenger plane bound for the UK and arriving in the midst of lockdown. She'd been back about 48 hours before bleating on facebook about why it was a joke you shouldn't be going to the DIY shops buying stuff to decorate your house because people need it for their mental health.
The mumsnet scientific advice is anyone can do anything they want during this if it is for their mental health, would love to see the same principle rolled out in the middle of an air raid campaign.

£10.8bn a year to the economy.
The sector contributes £2.8billion a year to the Treasury via taxation, and generates a further £23billion a year and 363,700 jobs.

Watching the reaction (on Twitter, and even people in this thread) to wearing face masks is so weird. The benefits are so bleedin obvious (it stops you inhaling other peoples gob, and stops your gob reaching them). Is it not as simple as that? (genuine question for those not wanting to wear one).

You're supposed to wear them on public transport, but I haven't been on public transport so I couldn't tell you how many people are. I don't think there's any enforcement of it.

The One Nation leader won’t be returning to Nine’s ‘Today Show’ after comments she made about residents under hard lockdown in Flemington and North Melbourne’s public housing estates. Hanson said they were from “war-torn countries”, and should be used to their current conditions.
Pauline Hanson labelled residents in the nine public housing estate towers "drug addicts" and "alcoholics" who can't speak English, in an interview this morning on Channel Nine's Today Show.

If that's correct it leaves us with some pretty ugly choices to make.
1) Social distance forever and accept the deaths.
2) lock down the entire world (good luck) for 2 months and drive it out of existence.
3) get a vaccine and hold fire until you have enough to vaccinate absolutely fucking everyone and do so at record speed (or the 80% needed for herd immunity)
4) Crack on and vaccinate the most vulnerable 4 - 6 times a year.
Although immunity being that short may fuck the idea of a vaccine anyway if there's various strains knocking about.

If people are locked down at home and heavily social distancing when they're out it reduces the spread through that. As soon as you start opening up then those things lessen, so having the masks to counterbalance that seems sensible. Possibly a bit of your first point too, which isn't a terrible thing.

Yeah, I don't get the opposition. It's a simple thing and it's not for nothing. And Jimmy's right. We need to adopt the same mask culture of Asia. It'll come in handy through cold and flu season and, by the sounds of it, this virus is unlikely to vanish.

I think there is a massive divide at the moment between people (like me) who for whatever reason have been out and about all the way through, and people who have either been forced to, or chosen to, shield completely, been furloughed or have worked from home all the way through. I just don't see the great risk in everything. Infection numbers are now tiny and if you social distance and avoid unnecessary indoor crowding, you're almost certain not to contract Covid.
However when I see my colleagues coming back from furlough and being scared to touch door handles or go to the toilet in the office, I just think what sort of damage has this done to people's psyche?
I'll wear a mask in shops because I am a law abiding citizen, I just think it will deter economic activity and therefore backfire.

Buildings falling on you = extremely unlikely
Car crash = quite likely
Spreading covid by not wearing a mask = quite likely
Honestly primary school children can understand this stuff

And if those education starved children can understand that, why can't our EXPERT EPIDEMIOLOGISTS?

The ones that would have died if they'd got the flu, or the cold, or pneumonia or anything other mild virus due to their underlying health condish?
Pray tell, the ones that died from starvation, abuse etc, what about them?
