Same as that. One of the legs of mine is broken and I have parcel tape holding it together but fucked if I’m going anywhere near one.

Last time I went to an opticians was 21 years ago. But I can't work out why I never went back.

They're generally behind my eyes. Remind me a lot of the ones I used to get before getting my eyes tested and finding out I needed glasses which is why I thought I maybe needed a stronger prescription. The optician said I might just be staring at screens too long without taking regular enough breaks.

I probably need to drink more water too.

The outbreak here in HCMC seems to have been controlled. A flight attendant brought it back from overseas and didn't follow self-isolation rules (and is now facing jail time).

A total of 861 direct contacts and 1,400 indirect ones were tested and not a single result returned positive for COVID-19, the center elaborated.

Those people had been exposed to patients 1,342, 1,347, 1,348, and 1,349, who were registered on November 29, November 30, and December 1, after Vietnam had spent nearly three months detecting no community transmission.| Patient 1,342 is a Vietnam Airlines flight attendant who flouted quarantine rules to allegedly transmit the virus to patient 1,347, who in turn infected the remainder.

Over 1,000 other people who had their health monitored in relation to these cases were also negative for the virus, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control said in the same report.

The city is quarantining 5,436 people either at home, centralized centers, or other accommodations

Local authorities have been beefing up their crackdown on anyone failing to wear face masks in public, with fines reaching VND1-3 million

4 universities have been closed for 2 weeks (one of the positives was a teacher), the wearing of masks has been reinforced, but apart from that, not too much impact day-to-day.

Just that I had an email (asking for volunteers olol) through work that a testing site for people without symptoms had opened in town and was advised to get one, so I figured why the hell not. Leaving the house to actually do something was a bonus too.

The army are manning (olol) it at the moment, so it all felt a bit surreal.

I don't know if you've noticed but there's a lot more octogenarians, NHS frontline staff and care home workers than there are 14 year olds. And you can store the BCG anywhere. And it's easier to manufacture. You'd imagine coronavirus restrictions mean an even more staggered rollout than the one we're getting, too.

They are normal people who don't read anything (and I mean anything) ever, and so form their opinions presumably from little snippets of TV/radio, from misguided instinct, or from the ninnies who surround them in their lives.

I think what I take for granted in life is the amount of reading I have done, not even necessarily books but just true information of all kinds on a page or a screen or whatever. That would apply to everyone on this board, too, but for a lot of people it just isn't the case, especially nowadays.

Have had the same experience, went out with my wife for a meal and had quite a few after we had eaten.

Also had few outside pints with a couple of mates, they were a bit stricter about food, I think because outside spaces are so much more popular. We ordered one pizza with each round and had a couple of slices each shared around.

Some places now are starting to charge for outside table spaces which is a bit of a piss take.

Holding out hope we will get moved to T1 before the festive period, last seven days we are down to 65 cases per 100k.

Ok, but all this talk of 2030/next couple of decades being the drop dead date. With the reduction we've seen in 2020 is that enough to put us on course, loads more, or not enough? This bit is crucial for me as if it's the latter then we need to give up trying (lol) now and focus on finding alternative solutions as we're never going to crack it this way.

All we are doing is slowing the increase. To stop it we would have to give up things that there is literally zero chance of people being willing to do. Consumerism, eating meat, airplanes and international trade being at the forefront along with reforestation on a massive scale.

Climate Change is a done deal as far as I'm concerned. In happier news, we will get off lighter than a lot of (mostly poor and brown) people.

There's no money to be made in rolling back consumer consumption so it won't happen, we may manage a token reduction of overall emissions but it will be via new technologies rather than anything else. No government putting forward the sort of measures that would make any real difference would ever get elected, we will likely get better at managing the consequences and (as Spikey says) we'll have a front row seat for what happens to all the browner countries and (probably completely fail to) take appropriate action.

I can't understand why they were doing HIV tests on themThere was a famous (in my work anyway) case of an undiagnosed HIV patient who was really poorly and they couldn’t figure it out, despite numerous COVID tests confirming he was negative. Somewhere along they way they decided to test him for HIV, among a lot of other things, and it was positive, and his CD4 count was like 200 or something as equally low. He died. Now I presume a lot of COVID patients also get tested for HIV, cos a lot of the symptoms are the same, and presumably also those testing the vaccine do too.

There's an ingredient called polyethylene glycol in both the vaccines. Allergy to it is very rare and it's in lots of medications (and other things) so people who are allergic to it often think are allergic to something else (for example they may think they are allergic to the medication which caused their initial reaction, when actually they are allergic to PEG).

That's why they are being cautious about anyone with a history of a severe allergic reaction.

When you actually read it, their restrictions turn out to be:

A maximum of five people from no more than two households are allowed to gather in a home. But this will be relaxed from 24 to 26 December when one household will be able to invite a maximum of four close family members from other households.

So their rules under a HARD LOCKDOWN are actually more lax than ours are even now, but it's being portrayed as something stricter than what we have.

I've long been saying that BBC standards have gone to shit since they moved to Salford and are recruiting from a north west 'talent' pool rather than the far superior southern one, but you're not allowed to say that so I'll instead agree with whatever conspiracy theory is being put forward.

People that died within 28 days of a positive Heroin test.

Magic pretending he gives a shit about heroin addicts dying is the same as people who say "we need to look after our own" in response to refugees but who don't give a fuck about the homeless or starving schoolchildren.

It's the devastating impact of Tory imposition which has caused the death of the once proud BBC.

What is causing the deaths?
The figures, usually published around July, were delayed due to a backlog of toxicology results and the Covid-19 pandemic.

They show deaths in Dundee have tripled since 2013 and have risen from 66 to 72 between 2018 and 2019.

In Fife they jumped from 64 to 81.

This Christmas dithering is great. My sister's meant to be coming from Scotland, if Sturgeon unilaterally bans her from doing so then I will spend 5 days sat around miserable boomer parents banned from seeing their daughter and will also have to peel all the fucking vegetables that no one will enjoy anyway.

What has changed? The BBC are leading with "unlikely to change" and we in no way left the second wave for this to be the third.

She's going to use it to strengthen independence, because anything she does contrary to him is seen as a + for Scotland.

Anyone who breaks the rules (loads) will be made out to be Teddy Bears and Toom Tabards, further deepening the ever-growing nationalist divide.

We've already vaccinated (or done the first shot at least) for 137,000 people according to Mr Zahawi, which sounded quite impressive to me although Twitter screamed with fury that it should have been 800 gazillion by now.
