Related tweets has led me to Peter Ebdon's twitter and what he has become :D
Hearing more and more people who are eligible for a booster but are deciding against it. One particular couple who had bought fully into the lockdown and fear bollocks and got the offical merch to prove it the first time round too.

I wouldn't say they're official representatives of SCIENCE, just massive advocates of it and keen on continuing the good work it does.
Now you mention it I don't think there is an official representative of it, which is probably what makes it so pernicious.
randomlegend
20-09-2021, 11:47 AM
I don't think you can really have an official representative of a concept. I mean are you seriously expecting there to be an individual representing all scientific endeavour conducted across all fields or something?
People (who in these case aren't even scientists or anything approaching it) trying to bastardise science into some wierd culty MOVEMENT, doesn't make actual good science wrong or untrustworthy.
Spikey M

Are you advocating for some kind of Science Pope, Yev?
That could get dicey. If you appoint a Physicist like Brian Cox, you'll have Richard Dawkins Biology splinter group breaking kneecaps on the streets of London in no time.

No, I'm not. I was merely pointing out that there wasn't one, not that we should have one.

Again, well aware of that. Tis why I capitalise it. Actual science is a wonderful thing. I've had my vaccines let's not forget.

My Daughter only caught it last week and she's been going to school (even during lockdown as the Mrs is a KEY WORKER (You're welcome)) and in regular contact with classmates who had it. We always assumed she just had it asymptomatically (and maybe she did), but it seems like she just hadn't caught it until then.
I guess it really isn't that contagious amongst kids.
She shrugged it off like a mild cold too. As did my son. I can see less and less reason for vaccinating children for this.
Yevrah

Yeah, just spoke to my niece on WhatsApp video call and she was bouncing around the house enjoying the novelty of not having to go to school.
She only got tested in the first place as her best friend has a temperature and tested positive. It's easy to say this as she's not mine, but given she seems to have lolled it off I'm not sure there's any point at all in vaccinating her now.

I'm surprised you're surprised. Other lergies you do not expect the majority of school kids to have caught it in circa 18 months (considerably less time if you consider the school shut downs).
People need to get it out of their heads that you'll catch this if you're within a 5 mile radius of someone with covid.

Kids get lurgies all the time. Anything they come into contact with spreads like wildfire between them. And this virus is, you know, quite transmissable.

Yep. It's why 9/11 conspiracies took off. "Surely someone would've stopped this? Buildings can't fall over like that, etc?" Any gaps in their knowledge just get covered by conspiracy. The reality of chaos is too much for some to bear.

BREAKING: Restrictions will be tightened for two weeks in parts of Queensland after six new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the community.
From 4pm today, the Local Government Areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Logan, Townsville and Palm Island will be subject to increased restrictions.
Public and private gatherings are limited to 30 people, while aged care, correctional centres, hospitals and disability service providers will close to visitors.
Cafés and restaurants will return to 1 person per 4m² indoors and 1 person per 2m² outdoors. You must be seated in hospitality venues when you're eating and drinking, and dancing is not permitted.
Capacity at stadiums and events will decrease to 75%, including Sunday’s NRL Grand Final.
Funerals and weddings are restricted to 100 people. A maximum of 20 people can dance at weddings.
Don’t forget a mask when you leave home: you must wear them indoors, on public transport and ride sharing, and when social distancing isn’t possible.
These measures are important to keep Queensland safe.
No mention of not sharing a bag with a stranger in the pub bathroom after the game...

Yeah, both vaxxed.
When the PCR comes back positive the kid has to 'isolate' for 10 days but no other members of the household have to unless they develop symptoms or return a positive PCR [I think we have to have 1 PCR at some point but not sure when]. It's only a minor ballache, but could become more annoying if more people come down with it. https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/China-PCR-test-orders-soared-before-first-reported-COVID-case
Purchases of PCR tests in China's Hubei Province surged months before the first official reports of a novel coronavirus case there, according to a report from researchers in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia.
Orders doubled from universities, jumped fivefold from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and surged tenfold from animal testing bureaus. Purchases from hospitals declined by more than 10%.
Monthly procurement data shows a spike in orders in May, especially from CDC buyers and the People's Liberation Army.
"We believe the increased spending in May (2019) suggests this as the earliest start date for possible infection," the report said.
Purchases rose sharply from July through October as well, in particular from the Wuhan University of Science and Technology. The institution spent 8.92 million yuan on PCR tests in 2019, about eight times its total for the previous year.

After you arrive in England you must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2.
You must book this test before you travel.
If you will be in England for less than 2 days you still need to book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test. You only need to take the test if you are still in England on day 2.
Right, and what if I don't? Beheaded at the Tower?
They really need to be killing it off by 2022, I got shit to do.
