One of the local Vietnam vaccines has just finished phase 2 trials and has 100% immunogenicity. Apparently this doesn't necessarily mean it will mean 100% efficacy, but it's a good result. Here's hoping phase 3 trials are fucking successful. Currently, only 200,000 of 97,000,000 have been vaccinated.

Scotland. :face:

So no doubt the likes of #teamautism will agree with this but all the further education sector is planning on making people 'prove' they are from the same household for anyone that comes in i.e for practical work like class projects or beauty treatments/hairdressing etc. It also means they have to practice on people they know, which isn't a replication of real world working.

What about all those poor bastards that live alone? Or that hate their family? Or that are abused by their family? Gotta love a bit of discrimination from the SNaziP.

It is a fair point regarding deaf people who read lips etc but it's a bit like coming up with a plan to liberate Nazi occupied France when the allies are already on the Normandy beaches. We don't have confirmation yet that masks will be fully done away with come 21 June, right? Hopefully it comes so the real melts can be outed instantly. Brutal.

And they wouldn't be holding trial events. Masks on public transport and flights is probably where it sticks around but no further.

Andy
03-05-2021, 01:11 PM
Mask wearing in general is irrelevant. I've been wearing one for work for a while and couldn't care less if I have to carry on certain situations for a while.

It's all the other crap that needs to go asap and is far more of a problem. Social distancing and the rule of six are both far worse than the occasional mask.

Spikey M
03-05-2021, 02:03 PM
The difference is that no cunt is bothering with the rule of 6 or distancing any more. Masks are easier to make do with, but harder to get around. As it goes I only bother where there's no getting around it. I've already stopped taking one to the gym at all and so have most other people.

I do think there has been a very noticeable shift in the tone of the media with regards how this is being reported to us over the last week or so. The BBC in particular, there's been a very decisive change of attitude from them recently.

Whilst they're not quite on board with the "everything will be fine now" narrative their front page has basically gone back to almost exclusively reporting other "news" (I use this term loosely, they report on some right shit, but non-Covid related matters) as a posed to being filled with, up until very recently, a stream of absolute nonsense that seemed to be aimed exclusively at making us think the end was still imminently nigh.

They even ran something yesterday (I believe) with a headline about scientists saying further lockdowns are very unlikely. Which is quite a u-turn from their usual editorial position of "we're fucked, and we're fucked forever". It's almost like somebody (the government?) have made the decision to tell them to pack it in and stop whipping up fear in the masses. Or they realise the tide of public opinion has just turned sufficiently that we're all now fed up of it. Either way, it's refreshing.

I hope that was autocorrect or we've got another "peddle stool" on our hands here.

By mid-April about 60% of the vaccine doses administered in the country were Sinopharm, with the rest Indian-made AstraZeneca vaccine doses, Bloomberg reported.

I've been saying for months that this thing has shown women (as a general sweep, obvs) to be way way way more cautious about everything than men, which in turn has made me wonder a few things about humanity more broadly. Will, for instance, women's liberation lead to a stalling in human progress, because they're not interested in the mad risks that men take, 80% of which fail and 20% of which drive the species forward?

Or is women's liberation needed to rein in the risk-taking men and settle everything down for a few centuries?

Who could say.

Conflating 'no risk' with 'no risk of them dying' is surely a bit of a mistake in terms of assessing the value of a vaccine. I'm sure covid can still be shit for kids, and kids are routinely vaccinated against seasonal flu to boot, hardly a killer that one.

I've had all my eligible kids vaccinated against chicken pox, even though it seems to be fairly uncommon over here/in the UK. It saves them the ballache [minor misery] of having to have it (and the two weeks off school/work that go with that) etc. The one who did manage to get it after being vaccinated had symptoms that were so mild as to be barely noticeable. Vaccination win. So mine will be getting a covid one should one be licensed for use on them and made available.

Took my daughter for her “preschool jabs” yesterday and she absolutely screamed the doctors surgery down, and pinning her down has certainly traumatised us both. She won’t be getting any useless injections on my watch.

I’m starting to think there’s zero point in me having the covid vaccine too. I’m relatively young and healthy, so covid won’t kill me. And it doesn’t last forever, so it’s not like I’m securing the antibodies for when I’m 60+ and might die from it. It would literally be for other peoples sake, but if they’re so scared of catching it they’ll be vaccinated anyway. I dunno, will probably get it just because, but I don’t want particularly it.

I make decisions based on risk. There is basically no risk to my kids from Covid. The vaccine seems like an unnecessary ordeal and an unnecessary risk. There are several countries not giving young people the vaccine after advice from their scientific experts.

I'm pretty sure our own Government was dead set against it until recently too.

All of those things you've highlighted pose a risk to kids, COVID doesn't. We're not going to completely eradicate it, we'll have vaccinated more than enough people to have herd immunity by the time we get down to children, nearly all the vulnerable are protected, the reaction to the vaccine seems to get worse the younger you are, so beyond 'SCIENCE innit', what's the point?

We're not going to completely eradicate it, we'll have vaccinated more than enough people to have herd immunity by the time we get down to children, nearly all the vulnerable are protected, the reaction to the vaccine seems to get worse the younger you are, so beyond 'SCIENCE innit', what's the point?

Where have you read this?

You really need to stop calling science a cult, Yev.

When people stop behaving like it's something that can't be questioned and you have to follow blindly, I will.

I have a son. I’ll be taking my advice from the experts not “well covid doesn’t harm them anyway”. Neither does rotavirus, pertussis, measles etcbut we happily advocate for people vaccinating their kids with those.

Will these be the same experts who were telling us that vaccines alone aren't the way out of this?

It can be questioned but the scientists tend to have numbers to draw their hypothesis on. You're just a man in a hot tub with a broom handle jammed up his arse.

I haven't. It's based on the people I know who've had it. Tis why I said seems.

It can't be questioned. Spikey says he's not sure about giving it to his kids and he gets set upon. That none of you can recognise that's how the conversation went is even more proof it's a cult.

Young people do get worse side effects because their immune system is better. Whether that continues into childhood... who knows.

No. SCIENCE are your two-bit epidemiologists and ‘public health’. The people we listen to are the MHRA - actual doctors.

Oh sorry yes, Linda who calls it experimental can't be fucking questioned as a source. You're having a laugh.

Matt Hancock is the source. Unless you're suggesting Big Lynn is a dabhand at the voice-overs.

That’s because Spikey, God bless him, has resorted to dodgy Twitter links and statements like, “well it doesn’t affect kids as badly”. That is conjecture and the only people who are the authority, the MHRA, haven’t made a decision yet.

1 dodgy link. Fine. The second was just for the video which I have now made clear 3 times. A bit of honesty please.

Matt Hancock would recommended triple vaccinations for all kids if he had am acquaintance prepared to take the contract contract.

The video is of Matt Hancock saying kids won’t be given the jab. He’s not a doctor or anything approaching it. He’s not the expert you should be listening to.

He's incharge of the NHS. Are you taking the piss?

We were always going to make gains on this Super Thursday but it really has been relentless. Look at the melts running scared with 'ooo but what's the risk' and 'haha look at the person who tweeted it, they have a flag in their name'

Are you? He’s a pleb in a suit who gets told what to say by the people who advise him ie the MHRA and JCVI.

Idiotmouse should probably vaccinate his kids, but if I was 7om I would want to know the extent of its natural Asian immunity before potentially compromising it with Western medicine.

I make decisions based on risk. There is basically no risk to my kids from Covid. The vaccine seems like an unnecessary ordeal and an unnecessary risk. There are several countries not giving young people the vaccine after advice from their scientific experts.

Spikey, if you want to be such a realist, do you think they're not giving it to young people because of scientific experts thinking young people don't need it or they don't have enough or want to pay for young people. Remember when the WHO was saying no masks because they didn't have enough masks for themselves?

I don't know who he is or how reliable he is. I don't even really need that to make my argument fly.

The disease is no danger to my kids.

PIMSTS is not that rare and is seriously shit. If I had kids I wouldn't hesitate for a second getting them vaccinated once it becomes available.
