The general consensus seems to be that we're falling down because they're counting the 3(?) swabs that make up 1 test as 3 separate tests.

But I don't know if that's actually true, because the test they sent me only had 1 swab. Perhaps the ones they do at the test sites are different?

Test site I went to was a 1 swabber.

Spikey M

Queensland has opened the borders up to . . . the ACT...

Are we about to seize power? Can we rely on Vietnam in these uncertain times?

We're completely back to normal now :p And we still aren't letting Aussies back in :)

We even opened up 6 international flight routes (Guangzhou, Seoul, Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Taipei and Tokyo)... however, that could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Economy also managed to keep its head above water (just), 1.81% growth on last year for the first half of the year. I would expect that to drop second half of the year once export trade continues to slow down.

Viva el comunismo.

This comes across as a load of waffle.

The possible measures being discussed - described by the government as a "circuit break" - include asking some hospitality businesses to close, or limiting the opening hours of some pubs and restaurants nationwide.

Yeah because shutting down Pete's Fish Bar on Yarmouth front is a real circuit break.

This wild knee-jerk shit really has brought out the worst in people. From Dave who won't get tested because he doesn't want his local pub to close (due to the fearmongering of 1 case shutting down the entire country) and Susan who is so desperate to avoid her menial paid job where she hates her colleagues so is getting tested 3 times a week and self-isolating where possible ripping the arse out of furlough.

Nation full of freaks. It's also interesting to see how if you agree or disagree with any sort of Corona opinion/thought/"fact" you're immediately polarised in to being aligned with a political party.

Was in the shop earlier and some woman behind me in the queue was standing far too close. Turned around and politely asked her to step back a bit. She went "it's only a metre's distance, chill out!". I looked at the ground between us and said "that's not even a metre" (it was about two feet) and then she replied with "sorry if my spacial awareness isn't up to your standards". Thankfully the queue in front had then moved on a bit and I was able to move forwars and she kep her distance after that.

Pretty sure it's only 1 metre here if 2m isn't possible and the markers on the floor are 2 metres apart. But the queue was long enough that we were back beyond them at this point.

Some people are just fucking cunts though. How can you react like that to a polite request to give someone a bit more space?

"France has recorded a further 10,569 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours.

The country's Health Ministry has also reported a further 311 deaths, with the number of people dying with the virus there now standing at 31,585.

Was in Berlin at the start of the week and everyone wore a mask and I do mean everyone - No fat people smoking whilst sitting in a mobility scooter then going in a shop and not putting one on or anything like that. It helps that it’s a fairly spacious city but I personally struggle to see a reason why over there it seems mandatory for everyone but here there are exemptions. The exemptions are what cause the issues by creating grey areas.

We also went to Brighton when we got back. Popped into Asda on the Friday morning it was absolute fucking carnage. There were people in there getting so close to me I would feel uncomfortable in normal times let alone now.

The general fuckery of shopping now annoys me though, I am usually not bothered but in some shops the fannying about and encounters with other customers have made me up for kicking right off with any clever cunts I encounter. Unsurprising it is boiling over in places and laughable some twats expect minimum wage Tesco staff to be enforcing it like the Covid Gestapo.

What is it with the exceptions rule then? Surely people who have trouble breathing are the people most vulnerable to the virus.

For some people the mask in it's self is dangerous. Granted, the virus would possibly kill them, but self-suffocation doesn't seem like a great strategy to prevent that.

Plus, masks don't protect you, they protect others. It's essentially the same as Herd Immunity.

Jimmy Floyd
21-09-2020, 11:28 AM
Based on the numbers they were dishing out earlier re antibodies, 5.3 million people should have had it. Reported cases are not even 400,000 in total.

I'd love to see the research on why they don't protect you. They didn't protect anyone a mere few months ago.

They do protect you.

The general idea is that masks are good at capturing larger droplets, but smaller droplets not so much (actually the "mid-range" droplets are the ones that get collected with the least efficiency, but no need to over-complicate things). So, when you wear a mask, the large droplets, which contain the most volume, get captured by your mask, while the smaller droplets get through. Those smaller droplets can get through both ways, so whatever gets through your mask will also be able to get through other people's masks.

On the other hand, someone not wearing a mask would be ejecting large droplets. Those tend to fall into the ground quickly, in any case, but your mask could potentially also stop some of them.

The important thing to understand is that this is not a 0/100 thing. It is not like masks capture every single large droplet and let every single small droplet through. They all have a range of collection efficiency per droplet size. They are not one-way either. So, wearing your mask protects you and also protects others.

EDIT: Massive gaps between your mask and your face throw most of this down the drain.

They've politicised it beyond all recognition, and are totally convinced that the Scottish people want a total and utter lockdown, paid for by Her Majesty, to keep them safe whilst they sit and watch Facebook videos on INDEPENDENCE and ream their benefits.

Disgusting.

Last week, eight Indonesians caught not wearing a face mask were forced to dig graves for people who had died of COVID-19 in the East Java district of Cerme.

Others found breaking the law were put to work cleaning public spaces or told to do push-ups in lieu of paying a 150,000 rupiah ($14) fine, CNN reported.

Waitrose is for ponces and Lib Dem voters. M&S is for a lower class of person: dull, slow thickos with a bit of money and no imagination. A lot of them are old. I have a very clear memory of being in there once and a mid 60s woman angrily told the Asian checkout attendant (when they offered her a bag) to 'Leave me alone! If they're struggling enough that they can only offer part time hours to a FT employee, I don't fancy that they'll want to pay them extra money as a nice gesture.

The vast majority of people who're going to be made redundant by this will have already been made redundant too (or serving their notice on furlough).

I've been interviewing people for a marketing role this week - I've probably spoken to at least 20 people. Every single one of them has been made redundant or at high risk of redundancy. It's brutal out there.

Marketing is pointless though, so they deserve it.

Aye. I'm probably a fortnight away from learning my fate.

My wife works in wine and one of the big companies who have had people on furlough for the entire period and now starting to just bin people off completely. It's going to be a real shit show in the next few months.

Another one for the "good luck enforcing that one" bucket.

He is the biggest weirdo in existence. Covid would be doing a favour permanently fucking him up.

Speaking of Covid doing favours, students are banned from pubs and restaurants for the time being. Unreal

After all their pissing and moaning about being sold down the river by the elderly on Brexit, it does make me lol the way they're behaving with this. Proof (that wasn't really needed) that, shock horror, all people look after their own interests at times.

Those Scottish university regulations are demented. We should ask for our money back.

It’s only for this weekend and for ones in halls, I presume.

SNP will still win 95% of seats and probably get independence in the next few years

A successful Brexit would be more in the interest of younger people (for the opportunities or whatever it would create), but I would have thought a lot of older Leave voters were voting on the vague notion of getting things back to how they used to be in the good old days when they still had a sex drive.

The 60s and 70s probably was great fun for a boomer and then the 80s an opportunity to buy their own home. There was still loads of foreigners (West Indies, South-East Asia etc)

I can't find any ethnicity stats, but there's no way the racial demographics of the 1970's are anything like today's. At school we had 4 non-white people in our year and 1 Kosovan.

My daughters class at school now is a full spectrum or races. The main cities have probably changed less, granted.

That's probably why it's all the little shithole towns that voted leave. Margaret and Bob can't say nuffink these days.

Yeah but you could call them funny names back then.

Ethnicity across the country is 87% white.

There's definitely a sense in the regions about London elites having foisted multiculturalism/multiracialism on them without their consent (to what extent this is true is debatable). The central tension is them saying well hang on, shouldn't we have some say in what our locations/communities look like, and shouldn't everybody living here have a proper stake in the whole place rather than just their narrow ethnic community; and their opponents saying no why would you have a problem with any of this, unless of course you are a RACIST.

Personally I think it's much less about colour and much more about language - people really don't like hearing foreign languages spoken around them, it takes away their innate sense of place and makes them feel uneasy. It's easy to throw RACIST at any such feeling, but this isn't a rational argument, it's about feelings, and you can't control your feelings.
