Ethnicity across the country is 87% white.
There's definitely a sense in the regions about London elites having foisted multiculturalism/multiracialism on them without their consent (to what extent this is true is debatable). The central tension is them saying well hang on, shouldn't we have some say in what our locations/communities look like, and shouldn't everybody living here have a proper stake in the whole place rather than just their narrow ethnic community; and their opponents saying no why would you have a problem with any of this, unless of course you are a RACIST.
Personally I think it's much less about colour and much more about language - people really don't like hearing foreign languages spoken around them, it takes away their innate sense of place and makes them feel uneasy. It's easy to throw RACIST at any such feeling, but this isn't a rational argument, it's about feelings, and you can't control your feelings.
No but you can be aware of them.

If your feelings on a subject are ridiculous - such as caring what language someone is speaking when they aren't even talking to you - then you should try to change your feelings and I think you absolutely can.
I used to dislike religious people and all their bollocks. My feelings have changed to not giving a fuck.

The issue is multiculturalism, insofar as every historical example of it leads to communalism and violence, and language is the visible tip of that particular shiteberg.

I doubt you arrived at that via a painstaking logical process though. You likely stopped caring, or started caring more about other things instead. That does happen over time with almost everything (I said that colour wasn't much of a thing now - I suspect that in the 50s-80s it was a massive thing), but it does take time, perhaps a generation.
People may instinctively feel a certain way - for example, 'Things were one way when I was a kid, now they're another way and I feel uneasy about it'. If the response from wealthier sections of society when they express that feeling is that they are called a filthy racist, when they genuinely don't believe that they are a filthy racist, then, taken in combination with the general decay of social institutions and public services, they're probably going to end up voting against the status quo in a referendum. Maybe, in 20 years, they'll look back and think hmm, maybe I was a bit racist, I can see things more clearly now. But there's no time for that incubation period in the short run. They'll just think no, fuck you, you don't walk all over me just because you have money and an education.

Maybe this is when everyone realises that undergrad university is a con and the corporate admins are all on the take, never more so than when it comes to accommodation.
“[The new restrictions] are pretty drastic and it’s all a bit scary,” says Ralph Bennett-Richards, a first-year Glasgow student. “Moving up from London, living away from home for the first time, was scary enough without people now saying that we may not be able to home for Christmas. That’s made me really upset and I did have a little sob last night.”

Yes.
It also seems that they're doing it before all the mental dickheads have wiped everything out.
It's difficult for the students. On the one hand I think that surely it was obvious that university was going to be an absolute shit show this year, and had "defer" written all over it. On the other, what else do you do for a year? It's probably not the easiest job market to get involved in. Presumably they can only defer a certain number of places without the knock-on effect absolutely fucking the 2021 intake too.

I was surprised they didn't just all (at least the ones who don't need to be in labs etc) do distance learning and Zoom lectures. I know it's not the full ticket but it's an education.

That's probably a shorter turnaround than most students take to figure out where the shop is, or how to do laundry, tbf.
Over here, "food insecurity" is all the rage among idiot faculty. Apparently, our poor students are starving to death (in a uni that costs over $70,000 a year to attend), so they have created a gofundme campaign to buy the kiddos gift cards to the local supermarkets. The fancy ones though, because even under famine, we are too good for Walmart. I checked the application and it asks you how much money you want in your gift card (up to $50) and how frequently (every week, every two weeks, etc.) and it all seems to be done on the honor system. Tempted to go in and get myself a free $50 a week. Unsurprisingly, that is the most popular choice, which is taken as evidence of the MASSIVE problem we are dealing with, of course.

I took this to mean that that was the earliest they could get a Tesco or Sainsbury's or whatever delivery. That seems about right in my experience? You can't get it the same day anyway. And if loads of students are locked down and demand for it in that area has gone up then you definitely won't get it any quicker.
Remember at the start of lockdown how hard it was to get one? You had to book them three weeks in advance at midnight when the new slots were released.

Went to the local today and fucking hell. Selling masks at the door for those who don't have one because you now need one at all times until your first drink is at your table. And of course, wear one as soon as you stand up to go mens. No mixing under any circumstances. This is a Greene King one but clientele are fairly rough round the edges let's say so I imagine this isn't at the top of the percentiles where control and compliance comes into it. If they don't ease up I give it about 2 months before mass rejection of pubs and closures starts surfacing.
On the plus side, the masks do mean upsides of talking to people [illegally] without worrying about their spit particles ifyou were OCD like me even before this shit. Additionally, I'm home by 11, this is the way a civilised society should have been but we've tasted the apple now and there's no going back so open the fucking clubs.

From my experience of the first decade of my working life, I would genuinely advise any young person that the best way to get where you want to be is to dream small, and let your ambition be limited to maybe one day affording the premium supermarket sandwiches for lunch (eg. ham hock and mature cheddar) as opposed to the meal deal standards. That way, everything feels like an achievement, as opposed to one long failure.

My friend had Covid and she told me today which is quite handy as it's 14 days after I met her (and 12 days after she started displaying symptoms). I only played football twice and went for a meal and drinks in the meantime. Thankfully, if I had it, I was asymptomatic.

This would be weird. I'm not sure there's ever been a single case linked to fomites, and if you were masked up and in somewhere for a short stint the chances of getting it must be astronomically low. Could it be someone in your building + poor circulation somehow?

Is that one of those things that's only good because it's so bad?
If we work on the assumption that 'Daws' gravitates to the smuggest cunts possible (and vice versa), then we have to imagine that his Sawney in-laws and their associates will be right 'civic nationalist' whoppers, and that he spends Boxing Day in his tartan Christmas jumper nodding along to 'Tam' (real name: Henry Thomas Fraser) telling him that, actually, although you probably wouldn't know this, the first English colony was Scotland. Then it's back to England and deleting FW:FW:FW:FW WEE GINGER DUG!! e-mails without even reading them.
Tbf it's not too far away. My father in law is a prominent Scottish historian.
(I don't have one type of friend though)

Mostly.
Is he the pre-eminent Scottish historian scholar?

That's probably why it seems so bad then.
I remember trying to introduce a friend to Alan Partridge via YouTube clips and it was awful. Tumbleweeds at every turn.

One minute you're beaming in your Christmas jumper, then smug cunt 'uncle Davie' (real name: Hugh David Edward Strachan) goes 'They did look for Dawson tartan...', and they all fall out over who is and isn't a true Scotsman.

This is the transfer we didn't know we needed. Can we track the plane/car/ambulance?

While I like the enthusiasm, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you can track the car to the hospital they mention.

Is Kiko English or Scottish? Did he pretend to be Italian for a while too years ago?

Giggles pretending like he doesn't wish Kiko good morning every day in The Group.
