Regarding the vaccination, as harsh as it sounds I do question vaccinating people of 90 plus years of age.

There was a woman in a care home in Wales who got the jab last week - 108 and she'd lived through the Spanish Flu as well. What the hell is going to kill her??

Spikey M
22-12-2020, 09:16 AM
The older they are the higher the chance they will die from it, so you have to start with them if getting the numbers down is your aim. Will some of them die within weeks of getting it anyway? Probably. Will Magic say this is evidence of the Vaccine being a global pot to murder the over 60's? Probably.

Covid-19, potentially.

This is why you vaccinate the very old first:

I think it is Australians and famous people. But I reckon for the right amount anyone could fly in. We have had a shit fight keeping South American flight crews in their hotel rooms.

New Zealand is allowed to fly into Qld, NSW and NT.

Genuinely outrageous. Fair play to them for not striking (FOR ONCE) or whatever, like cunty bus drivers or something.

There are a lot of people who have to work with people. Construction staff, transport staff, people who work in shops, people who work in warehouses, people who work in factories. There's no difference between them and teachers and if they started ascribing one in the vaccine list there would be all sorts of arguments to be had. It's much easier to just designate the people who are actually near the virus because of their job (i.e. health workers and carers) and stick everyone else in one pot.

The deaths chart is the thing to watch from here on. If the deaths start decreasing pretty soon (and they should) then it'll be a first sign that we might be getting rid of this thing via vaccine.

Nobody else is isolated with 30+ other people facing them without masks or PPE, or even enough sinks in the workplace for everyone to keep on top of hand washing adequately. Children may be fine (if you ignore the VIRUS CARRIERS tag) but school staff are not.

But carers and health workers are being prioritised to protect the people they care for, not to protect them per se. Teachers don't run the risk of infecting the old and the vulnerable, and the teachers that are old and vulnerable themselves will already be covered under the existing priority system.

Jimmy Floyd
22-12-2020, 11:19 AM
Were you bullied by teachers or something?

There's a good argument for it but you can make the same argument for supermarket workers in particular (in America both of these seem to be above the elderly). I think they're just prioritising the groups who are actually dying in numbers, rather than the groups at perceived risk, which has to be about right.

Once the deaths go down from the vaccine I can't see how it won't improve fairly quickly. Cases are just cases, they're no reason to shut everything down, it's cases that lead to spreading into the vulnerable for deaths which are the issue.

Eventually, sure, but bare in mind the people that are ill now and get hospitalised will be getting out of hospital (or dying) in 4 to 6 weeks. Even if we could vaccinate everyone immediately the hospitals are full up for the next month minimum.

John Arne

Who exactly is going into the hospitals... Presumably only the over-50/60's (5m people)? Can't you just vaccinate everyone over 50 and basically return to normal as you take 6 moths vaccinate everyone else? Isn't the death rate for under 50's something below 1 in 2000 (I could be making that up).

I had a quite splendid conversation with the awful hag in shipping when the new areas under Tier 4 came out. She lives just over the Sussex border (an hour or more away) and has been lording it over us Surrey residents all week that she gets to have Christmas with family, so obviously when Sussex was put into Tier 4 we were keen to stick it up her.

"I'm not in Sussex, I'm in West Sussex."
"It's all in Tier 4."
"No, you said Sussex, not West Sussex. It's different."
"It's not."
"It's a different county."
"It's all in Tier 4."
"West Sussex can't be, we don't have any cases."
"It's in there."

And so it went on for a good hour before she let out a "For goodness sake!" and sighed her way through the rest of the day.

Tri traveled from Myanmar to Thailand by truck on Dec. 15 and stayed there until Dec. 22, when he and six others got on another truck bound for Cambodia on Dec. 23. On Dec. 24, Tri was driven to a border gate in Tay Ninh, then to HCMC, then got on a different bus to Vinh Long. Throughout his journey, he had made contact with several other people.

After disembarking at Vinh Long, Tri traveled to his mother's house. His mother however reported him to authorities so he could be quarantined on Dec. 24

Apparently Gavin Williamson is still holding out against keeping the schools closed for longer. Why don't they just, say, not listen to Gavin Williamson?

I’ll never understand all the  though when there’s a load of cases or you hear someone well known has it.

The worst thing about keeping schools open is this having the Army doing mass testing wheeze. That might be a good idea normally, but now it seems like a massive waste of manpower when they could be helping the vaccine rollout that literally everything should be tilted towards (and ideally taken out of Public Health England/NHS hands).

Yeah, let's give it to Serco.

Gove still championing schools going back next week, too.

This comment is so retarded I'm wondering if it was specifically aimed at getting a rise out of me.

Well you won't get a rise anywhere else. :harold:

Obviously they will need Our NHS resources, but if the Army could sort the logistics out and make people work at gunpoint (worth it to save lives!) then that seems like the best bet.

Is that an erectile dysfunction gibe? I'm not sure it's wise for you to start an argument centred on malfunctioning genitals.

I understand why they keep schools open when there isn't so much virus about (like in September), but at this particular juncture it seems to me a complete no-brainer to shut them down for a month, go to online learning (which happened in April so there must be a setup/plans for it, even if it means a degree of farting about) and see if that helps.
