So why can’t fans be in Wembley? It’s a 90,000 seater stadium, far easier to spread out than that monstrosity above.

I see that as a result of Greater Manchester going into tier 2, Oldham is having its stricter measures eased to fall in line with tier 2. Oh to be a bar owner in Oldham and to sniff out the opportunity to sue the shit out of the government for their retardedness.

Aye, as opposed to those famously congestion free routes into central London.

I'm not suggesting central London would be better. Considering the tube is already back to rammed status at rush hour, I can't imagine adding 6-10k extra people travelling on the same route will make a situation better.

I'll take a dose of imaginary 'long covid' over that. Ugh.

Indeed. When I was at Uni I had a girlfriend that bought into all that Chinese herbal tea bollocks and used to go into one of their shops to buy a bag of shite for £20 a month.

Anyway, one day there was a family in there with their 8 year old son who had been riddled with Crohns since birth. The only option left was to have bits of intestine and colon removed. Thankfully the Bat Oil salesman sent them home with cinnamon, dandelion and seaweed so I'm sure he's fine now.

Again, if you're sending Liverpool into tier 3 at 300-400 per 100K, how long before we're all into it? 1 week?

It's 600 in Knowsley, and not far off in Liverpool. Think it was 582 as of last week. Not looked this week.

St. Helens was 352.7 last I checked, and steadily increasing. :youpi:

Those numbers taken together suggest that most people think we can either 1) stay inside forever; or 2) stay inside until it disappears. That would explain things, so maybe it needs to be hammered home just how much this is costing.

The splits are where the (very subtle) tell is - it doesn't break by region, class or (relatively speaking) politics but the 'doesn't go far enough' shrieking is biased to women and the old - i.e. those for whom extreme caution is the natural state of affairs. Weirdly the missing 'doesn't go far enough' doesn't break towards the opposite opinion as you get younger, but towards 'don't know', which suggests to me that for the young it's a case of que sera sera, whereas for the old (and female) it's PANIC.

It's 'The North', but only as imagined by the sort of Labour Party wanks and London tosser affiliates who have been moaning about 'The North' all week. That is to say almost entirely concentrated on Liverpool and 'Greater Manchester', including Cheshire, and with the rural bits of Yorkshire swapped for the Derbyshire coalfields and a couple of other slums in the Midlands.

I'm no electrical engineer (I'm Yevrah), but, unless the silly cunt wants to do one every couple of months, is the term 'circuit breaker' appropriate in this context?

Spikey M
13-10-2020, 06:09 PM
The main problem I have with a 'circuit breaker' is that the cases/deaths would still be climbing come the end of it. 2 weeks is the incubation period and the deaths don't come until after 3 weeks. So the idea is to lockdown for 2 weeks, watch the numbers continue to rise, then end the lockdown whilst the cases are higher than when we started?

Uwotm8.

Don
13-10-2020, 06:11 PM

Spikey M
13-10-2020, 06:22 PM
Yeah, so that the following weeks drop right off. It's not about it affecting the past :cab:

They hope it drops off. There will still be transmission within households and amongst keyworkers. There will obviously be a drop, but they would be ending the lockdown before the extent of it is in anyway clear and the hospitals would not be any less full.

Don
13-10-2020, 06:28 PM
I've currently got a back injury stopping me from playing football for last month and it's turning dark before I've had my 5th wank of the day, I ain't in no mental space in which I can support it but the logic is clear.

PS. Back-injury aside, it's fairly clear to me the concerns we had about a winter lockdown are coming to fruition. Only thing keeping me from blowing up Giggles' neighbourhood is my daily cod liver oil tablets supplying me my Vitamin D for the day and that's one of the strongest minds of our society admitting that. No gyms for 6 months? Let me see this IG generation cope.

Spikey M
13-10-2020, 06:36 PM
I fear your back is preventing you from understanding my point(s).

To simplify: leaving a lockdown before we know how much difference it's going to have made seems a bit silly.

Don
13-10-2020, 06:39 PM
I thought you were comparing the merits of it to not having one altogether as opposed to having a longer one. I mean if they know they're about to hit a wall, it probably won't harm to hit the brakes a little beforehand.

Jimmy Floyd
13-10-2020, 06:42 PM
A circuit breaker is fucking pointless and stupid. What if cases continued to rise, as I'm pretty sure they did for the first 2 weeks of the original lockdown? Then it would just end up staying in place and fucking everyone three ways.

We should just hang in there and ride it out.

Spikey M
13-10-2020, 06:44 PM
I thought you were comparing the merits of it to not having one altogether as opposed to having a longer one. I mean if they know they're about to hit a wall, it probably won't harm to hit the brakes a little beforehand.

Agreed, I'd just have thought they'd want to see how quickly we're stopping before releasing the breaks again. But then again reducing cases by 20% and having them shoot straight back up 2 weeks later would sum this government up.

But then again:

What if cases continued to rise, as I'm pretty sure they did for the first 2 weeks of the original lockdown

Lol

Jimmy Floyd
13-10-2020, 06:56 PM
Last time we locked down on 23 March and cases only peaked on 10 April, and as late as 7 May they were still what you would call 'high' looking back at the period. There is absolutely no way that a 'circuit breaker' would be relaxed/ended with cases rising or still higher than when it started. Absolutely no way. It would end up being another two-month affair at best.

Jimmy Floyd
13-10-2020, 06:59 PM

France and Spain are the ones to keep an eye on as they had the second wave first and I don't think there's any wildly strict lockdowns there (except somewhat in Madrid now but still not akin to the first lockdown): the frogsters are probably still just about rising cases-wise and staying under 100 deaths most days, whereas our jamon-guzzling amigos have maybe slightly flattened out now, and their deaths slightly higher than France but nothing spectacular at all. The French track & trace has also just gone in the bin so we're not alone in that.

Ze Germans are also now starting to see an uptick so even the master race are going to need to track and trace at a faster pace.

Our tests came back negative, which is a relief. Must be some other virus my son's brought back from nursery.

Guy at work has tested positive, but loss of taste and smell is his only symptom

My son has been getting worse, and we took him to a GP on Monday at the advice of 111. They've said it's got all the signs of being COVID, and we all need to get re-tested and self isolate (again). We had our tests Monday evening, now just waiting for the results.

I'm not feeling too bad other than the occasional coughing fit. My son has a fever, terrible chest and is generally quite cranky. Hoping to get results today as I'm already fed up self-isolating. We've been doing it for 9 of the last 12 days. But a work colleague recently said it took 5 days to get their results back.

May well be so, but they're not going to, other than possibly an extra week at half term. If you start indefinitely shutting down children's education then the country is doomed. Schools will be the last thing to close and they'll sacrifice all manner of other things to keep them open if necessary.

I don't think we saw a single kid who was unwell enough to be admitted who tested positive. All the ones who were actually ill had flu or other things. Would be weird for all three of you to test negative if you all actually had it.

If we all tested negative and it turns out we've got it, it shows what a shambles the testing is. I suspect it's a different respiratory viral infection.

Can they? I might not want to suddenly take up running if I'm used to doing all my cardio in the gym. They're not always comparable activities. If I was into weight training, I might not have (probably wouldn't have) the required equipment to train at home. I should just give up the choice of a healthy lifestyle, that I may well have put years of work into, all of sudden?

Discount the old and vulnerable, who should be shielding anyway, then fuck interrupting healthy living on the off chance I might pass it on to somebody who is technically in the same bracket as me but has chosen to live some sort of largely sedentary lifestyle up to this point that has put them at risk. That analogy doesn't work at all. What percentage of your life do you tend to spend on an aeroplane? We're talking about day to day life here. Existence. Not a pre-planned, few hours on a plane, on the odd occasion you do travel on one. The two are not comparable at all.

Yeah who could compare day to day working life to spending several hours in an enclosed space with random people. That’s wild. Oh wait that’s getting the bus to work and then spending all day in an office and then getting back on the fucking bus.

It sounds like wank but you literally spend the majority of your waking hours on an airplane called society and your ability to eat and therefore survive depends on it. Peanut allergy or not.

You can't compare "society" to air travel though mate, that was my point. Because the latter is a luxury and a massively infrequent occurrence, whereas the former is your day to day life.

You wouldn't sit through a whole, aeroplane-safety style "in the event of a crash" demonstration every time you got on a bus or the tube, would you? You don't mind on the plane, because you're going to be in fucking America or something in a few hours.

"Please indulge us in the temporary inconvenience of not eating peanuts on the aeroplane, because the people who are allergic to peanuts would like the chance to partake in this optional, but very beneficial, experience too" - Fine, I can do without peanuts for a few hours and that is a reasonable request.

"Don't eat peanuts EVER, in your day to day life, because the people who are allergic to peanuts have a minuscule chance of dying of their peanut allergy whilst going about their daily business, if they're up-wind of you when you're eating them and the subsequent fallout somehow kills them" - Please tell the people who allergic to peanuts to A) Get a grip, and B) Stay in their peanut-free homes if they feel that strongly about it.

My home borough has gone into Tier 2 now despite my ward at least being at 44 per 100,000. Councils absolutely desperate to be classified higher for the associated cash grab.

London going into tier 2 from Friday means that I can mix in households on one side of the bridge down the road, but not on the other. Happy days.

Same here. We don't fall under Essex County Council, so we're not included but half of my wife's family are. Her Grandad is currently receiving palliative care and will be lucky to make Christmas. We will now probably never see him again. Well... we will, because Essex Council can fuck themselves, but you get my point.

All this because the head of the Council - who lives in Suffolk - asked to have the tier changed to High risk. There are places with far more Covid cases still in the medium risk category. What an absolute shambles.

In all seriousness, this is awful. Winter is shit enough as it is without being forced into confinement for the next four months or whatever. The worst thing about lockdown 1 was the absence of things to look forward to on a daily/weekly basis, and it will be the same now. If I have to do another Zoom quiz I might shoot myself in the fucking face.

The weather being nice made it tolerable for people living alone.

Try that when it’s pitch black, cold and wet. Christ.

Add on top people losing jobs and we are in for an almighty shit show if we do lockdown.

The tier 3 rules are basically lockdown + kids at school, no?

It's happening and it's going to be grim.

We will all be in some state of lockdown soon.

Schools and universities will be open, non essential shops will be open and construction/housing will carry on but all social interaction will be off.

Its going to be awful. I wouldnt be surprised if we are all tier 3 by the end of the month as the cold weather really starts to come in.

Jeremy Hunt - former Health Secretary, and previously seen as a sensible head on this - has asked Matt Hancock for a target of when 'every single person in the population will be tested every week' as the basis for returning to 'normality'. Ten million tests every day. Normality. This is mental.

It all ended with him squaring up to me for calling him a crackpot. It's made the day more interesting at least :D

I'd love to meet one of those "they're controlling us/it's Bill Gates" nutters. My first question would be, why?

The government already control us and Bill Gates already has enough money to level countries if he wanted.

If you are the kind of person that constantly licks their hands and pokes their fingers in their nose, then maybe. Otherwise, it really is a non-issue. Just wash your fucking hands, which you should be doing, pandemic or not.
