I don't understand how golf can be enjoyable if you're garbage. A friend of mine has been playing most of his adult life and has a handicap of 24. Give it up.

It’s not. Granted I’m not the clientele that would be welcome on a golf course here but I never got any better in all the years I played in the UK either so I probably wouldn’t bother any more anyway. It’s a frustrating cunt of a game.
I'm dogshit and love golf. I've only just started playing again after a 20 year hiatus though, so perhaps the novelty will wear off soon.

I am shit and cannot drive or iron (this is only the second time I’ve played) but when I made it to the green I sunk that ball in two shots or fewer on half the holes, which was so satisfying.

You don't have to be good at golf to enjoy it. It's probably the reverse, the better you get, the more frustrating it becomes. No matter how bad you might be at golf (within obvious limits) it is still possible for you to hit a shot any professional would struggle to match, on occasion. It's just you do it once every 5 rounds or so, whereas they beat you on the other 349 shots (you take 500).
Mellberg
27-07-2021, 06:49 PM
I'm shit at golf too, but can hit it miles. So long as I get a few sweet connections per round, fuck all the time spent in bushes and three putting.
If you’re not playing golf exclusively with friends in the sun with snacks, you’re not playing the same game as me.
I’m shit at golf and decided a few years ago to just abandon hopes of being able to use a driver. 5 iron off every tee of par 4 and 5s is fine. Can hit it pretty far with my 5 iron. Shot 92 round an absolute horror of a course with water and trees galore, and it beat any other round I’ve done by 7-10 shots. As long as I hit one good shot per round, I’m happy.
The sooner you accept you’re shit and golf, and always will be, the more enjoyable it becomes.

The idea that you need to be good at something to enjoy it, or for it to be worth doing :D
What a world that would be, if everyone thought like that.
Most activities do have a minimum level of competence required for it to be enjoyable, imo. I do not know what that level is for golf, never played.
Can the gammons keep it to whatever golf thread is going on, already having to withstand enough of it in the betting thread.

Definitely not cooking anymore. I'm seriously considering incorporating Soylent/Huel into my diet because why not.
It massively impacted my appetite as well. Usually I can have an apple and it'll trigger hunger not long after due to the sugar spike but without the mental trigger due to the dead senses, you can just eat when you think you have to.

Was speaking to a friend who lives in Sydney and he said he'd been identified as a close contact (I think he's had both vaccines as he's got risk factors) and the government wanted to put him in a quarantine hotel, but due to said risk factors it was considered too, erm, risky to do so. Is that right? Are the Australian government routinely removing residents from their homes to hotel quarantine and do they have to pay for that? Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick as that sounds mad.

So while relatives couldn't see their dying family members, Nurse Jackie was bringing in COVID as she started her shift, blissfully unaware, as as far as she was concerned she was COVID negative.
I don't really know why more hasn't been made of it.
I think I caught covid on the night of the final. I was going lateral flows every other day pretty much and they were negative until day 9 when I tested positive. I stopped testing positive 4 days later. These things are meant to catch symptomless covid but only started when I went full blown.
In summary, they're useless.

The tests for departure were faff that led me to choosing the big name Boots but this Day 2 and 8 testing on arrival system led me to the list of providers on the govt website:
https://www.find-travel-test-provider.service.gov.uk/test-type/amber
It's such cowboy territory it's unreal. 394 listed providers, sorted by price except some are listing their on-site testing prices (under £10 and possibly sold out too so not even an obligation to adhere to that) and getting all the traffic at which point the general customer yields and just books a random one having seen no discernible way to choose the cheapest without going through 50+ sites. All the sites are fucking amateur hour creations so you know what sort of charlatan is behind them too. Real big money to be made in this shit if you create one and list your on-site price as 1p.

This has to be getting into a generation out of power for the government type levels of fuckuppery, so good luck with whoever your new Paul Keating is. What's Kevin Rudd up to these days? Or does the federal system allow ScoMo&Co to shift blame onto the (Labor?[sic]) state governments?

Yeah Scummo has used the Murdoch media to attack QLD, WA and Victoria. He has refused to lead from the front with vaccines, federally run quarantine facilities. The Billionaire Wagner family of Toowoomba own their very own International Airport West of Toowoomba and want to build a massive quarantine facility. They aren't National donors so Scotty said no.
I kid you not Australian big wigs in America contacted Kevin Rudd while he was in New York and begged him to contact the pfyzer CEO to fix the Government's fuck up when they first bought off them.
The Liberals sent Young staffers on Scummo's behalf and they fucked it.
Western Australia and Queensland's borders are that of Nation States ATM, sort of...
Edit: Scummo also stayed silent when the media went on their massive AZ scare campaign. I swear for a period they would report on every AZ death that occurred in the UK.

Lewis Hamilton claiming to have long covid.
Lewis Hamilton's long COVID concern after dizziness and fatigue at Hungarian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton has said he has symptoms of long COVID after requiring medical help following Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion had performed superbly to move from last place to third in the Hungarian Grand Prix, later being upgraded to second place after the disqualification of Sebastian Vettel.
Hamilton's hard-fought performance in the 70-lap race gave him the lead in the Formula One world championship.
But afterwards, he appeared to be struggling (seen below) - he needed help to get to the podium and appeared too weak to hold the celebratory bottle of champagne.
He was taken to see the Mercedes team doctor and was later said to be suffering from dizziness and fatigue.
At a post-race news conference, the 36-year-old said: "I haven't spoken to anyone particularly about long COVID, but I think it is lingering there.
"I was having real dizziness and everything got a bit blurry on the podium. I have been fighting with staying healthy following what happened at the end of last year, but still it's a battle."

Our cases per day are still relatively low (7,000), but the lack of vaccines made the Gov shit the bed when the delta variant started taking control.
You can't leave your house unless you are going to your designated shop, and use you Gov issued shopping voucher (aka ration card), there are police checkpoints everywhere. Total curfew after 6pm. It's a bit grim, but nice and quiet.
Vaccines are finally starting to arrive, with HCMC and Hanoi being prioritised. Factories are hit worst; my mates factory having 120 positive cases, and the Gov don't want them to leave, so they basically stay at the factory in a separate area. Most factories have about 25%-50% workers living on site - saw one video of the cops shooting into the air to stop people leaving an infected factory. Everything else is closed, with the Gov handing out tiny stipends (£45 a month) to the market traders and the like. The last week has seen a mass exodus of workers returning to their hometowns.
Fair to say that as well as the Gov did last year in dealing with the initial outbreaks, they're panicked now with Delta, and fucked around ordering vaccines to end up at the bottom of the queue. At one point with Pfizer, they tried to renegotiate a previously agreed price just before it was due to ship.. Pfizer told them to fuck off.

Allowing Australians to drink in the Village is a rookie mistake.
A group of Australian athletes left their rooms in the Olympic village “in a messy and unacceptable state” — including vomit and a hole in the wall — before departing Tokyo, the Australian Olympic Committee said.
The athletes, from the men’s rowing and rugby teams, had finished their events at the Olympics and, though details are unclear, appeared to have embarked on a drunken, rowdy evening that resulted in the damage to the rooms, Australian media reported.

On Twitter, a friend, @hormeze, alerted me to some reports of people who had spontaneously restored their sense of smell upon taking psychedelics. It sounded weird. But given that I’m fairly comfortable with psychedelics, I was willing to give it a try. Also, I noticed that, in online patient accounts of anosmia, the early trajectory seemed to determine completeness of recovery; people who got it back quickly got it all back more consistently. So I wanted to take whatever actions I could, early.

To use the phrase of the moment, heads have gone. In Australia's case compassion went a long time ago [see their treatment of overseas nationals] and leaving someone to die at home rather than allowing them to seek help for fear of them spreading the virus is just further evidence of this.
Also, what is the point of using this poor sap's death as a plea for vaccination? They haven't vaccinated any of the actually at risk groups so even if he'd wanted it would he have been able to be vaccinated?

There's worst case scenarios based on something and then there's just reading from the doomsday book, they've been doing the latter for ages.
These people have been consistently wrong on this throughout 2021, I think because they refuse to properly acknowledge the impact vaccines are having, but whatever the reason, in any other walk of life we'd have been ignoring them (as an entire society) for months.
