Anyone have any stats on total daily deaths in England per day. 2019 was 1400 per day, but it's difficult to find any data for now (Covid + everything else).

https://twitter.com/alistairhaimes/status/1242758184722477056?s=21

What we’re likely to see is a lump where there wouldn’t normally be one, as deaths from seasonal stuff should reduce. But it’s a stretch to see the new lump being as big as the normal winter one. It is dependent on restrictions working, though.

It will be interesting to see what the seasonal impact will be. Early research points to there being some. Transmission is around 20% more difficult in warmer and more humid conditions - compared to 90% with flu, although that difference accounts for the lack of immunity against Covid.

I don’t know. I’m making the assumption that the reduction in demand only happens if the lockdown lasts for the duration of the analysis, which is to the end of June. Whether or not we get some sort of relief before then will depend on how widely we can test for active cases and legacy cases. The biggest limitation we have is not knowing if there are tonnes of people who get nothing worse than a suspected cold.

It would be nice to get some stats from ze Germans regarding testing and the percentage of asymptomatic people given they do seem to be ahead in terms of how many people they test on a daily basis.

In terms of supermarkets, I go to the local Carrefour, which is of course a big one, and while the queues are quite large, the movement is generally quite fast. I'd say in the worst case I had to wait about 30 minutes which, while being a bummer, is not that bad honestly.

We're not losing many lives to Coronavirus yet, so at this stage, it's not going to make a dent vs. 1,400 a day average and Alistair Haimes is a copper bottomed moron for thinking otherwise.

My best advice for food wanters with the means to do so is spend a bit of that moolah that you're currently not spending on the pub/commute/any kind of social life on deliveries 2/3 times a week. Keeps you out of the supermarket and keeps local businesses going. A well chosen one will do a couple of meals reheated too.

Doesn't help with milk, I admit.

I think over the course of the year it’s quite possible that the total excess deaths number won’t be higher than four figures, in large part because Covid will do in people who were already going to be done in.

But a year on year measure like that used by Haimes, who can’t get his head around the idea that if numbers end up low it will be because we’ve spent months in hermitage, are useless at the moment.

If you'd told people a month ago that they could opt to queue up an extra hour for their groceries in exchange for not having to go to work, I reckon the uptake would have been quite significant.

In regards to said shopping task, I've found a great tip that works for me is to reduce my masturbation time by said hour and value my free time realistically.

I went to the Tesco Metro at about 6 last night and there was no queue to get in and plenty on the shelves, including loo roll (!). That said, it has the key advantage of not having a car park and you can't really drive to it at all unless you are willing to park in a neighbouring road.

I'm starting to think I'm in an advantageous area for this re. suburban sprawl, if you live in a more self-contained town or city with countryside on all sides it's probably more of a nightmare.

That's interesting. It seems to suggest that there have been ZERO transmissions through smearing (essentially shared surfaces) and also suggests that it's almost impossible to contract via food.

Can I get COVID-19 from touching or eating contaminated food?

there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 has spread through food or food packaging
According to multiple health and safety organizations worldwide, including the CDC, the USDA, and the European Food safety Authority, there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 has spread through food or food packaging. Previous coronavirus epidemics likewise showed no evidence of having been spread through food or packaging.

Aside from inhalation, are there other ways coronavirus can spread?

So, most transmissions must just be down to people sneezing and coughing on each other, and each others food. Dirty lot.

The German Federal Institute for Risk Assesment (BfR) reports that it is also possible—but unlikely—that the virus could be spread through "smear" infection. In these cases, a healthy person would touch a contaminated surface with their hands—say, a can of soup, a touchscreen ATM, or a subway turnstile—then transfer the virus to their eyes or nose. There have been no known cases of this method of transfer,

Spain will be the worst hit by this in the end I think. Italy seem to have at least banded together to some extent, looking out for eachother and obeying the rules for the most part. Spain have gone to full every man for himself apocalypse conditions in record time. We're down to just a handful of kids in school so I'm not even needed next week. My job is to sort out the remote learning for the 95% of the school who are off.

By sort I mean look into the possibilities and go in on Monday and feed back to the head and deputy.

We had 11 in today and 3 staff with them (one requires 1:1 support) and I had a lovely day. Did some work with them then we were outside having fun from about 10:30-11:00. All done by 3:30 too, normally I’m in until 5:30 on a Friday.
I’m meant to be in next week but was told there sorting a new rota and it seems it’ll be a while before I’m in again.

I was almost a bit disappointed when I saw I wasn't on the rota next week because it's good to go in a bit considering the current environment, and like you say it's quite chilled with just a few kids and not teaching the curriculum or stressing about sats. Instead I'll just need to try and get my head around google classroom.

In other news, my mum is moving to the front line on Monday as her ward is closed down now and she's going on to the 'coronavirus ward'.

The key to maintaining perspective is to remember that the deaths are largely inferior specimens whose time has come and gone (any decent stats on distribution of deaths in relation to underlying health conditions?). The real worry is if it causes verified dons to lose a couple of senses permanently.

The numbers are definitely going to get a lot worse quickly over the next few weeks (taking into account that the number of dead will rise for 2-3 weeks after cases start to fall). They’ll stay bad for a few weeks.

All you can do is keep on at the people you care about to stay within the rules and be grateful that each day they’re not sick means they won’t be in the numbers in another two weeks. And remember; even the among the old and sick the vast majority come out the other side.

This will be an anxiety inducing two or three months for most of us. But for most of us it is also the case that the anxiety will be the worst of it.

Also, Cheltenham was on just last week. Seemed a joke at the time. Absolutely wreckless with hindsight.

New York is so, so fucked.

I was walking the dog today (and keeping very very far from everyone considering I may have it) and in the park, there were groups of people playing football. Huge amount of runners on the track that when passing were not 6ft from each other, playing baseball and even some guys tossing a rugby ball around.

Everyone I know here is taking it seriously but it doesn't seem to have hit home for the yoof.

It didn't help that today was 19 degrees so people wanted to be outside. I genuinely fear for this place when it warms up, everyone will be out. They need to bring in strict measures.

We have cop cars driving around telling people from a megaphone to keep apart but nobody listens. I then saw the same car sitting idle whilst the dude played on his phone.

I've felt this since before the outbreak but it feels a bit third world here sometimes. Great city but its fucking disgusting and filthy. And some of the people are so backwards.

Luca did the right thing to get out when he could. Ultimately I know nobody here I care about that is in any way vulnerable and considering I think I've had it, I'm pretty relaxed about it all but I do have friends with older family and they're rightly worried. There's a huge shortfall in PPE and then there's fellas on the streets selling masks - proper looky looky man situation. Weird city/country; but so much fun when everyone isn't dying.

Oh also, we had a 7pm clap for all key workers. Not one person clapped in our building haha

The state recorded 70 more cases of coronavirus overnight, bringing its total to 625, with three people in intensive care and 45,000 tested

Queensland police said the community should expect an increased number of officers checking on people under public health directions and taking action against those who did not comply.

They warned those who failed to abide by quarantine directions would face penalties of up to $13,345 for individuals and $66,672.50 for corporations.

Hubei did get absolutely rinsed by it for a period and Hubei does have a population of 58.5 million (akin to a large European country such as us, France or Italy), so it's not like they kept it contained in Daventry. If their deaths there were 50,000 instead of the 3,000 claimed it wouldn't be that much of a stretch. It might be possible that by locking down Hubei and keeping it in there, they have merely delayed its arrival in other provinces rather than killing it.

There’s not much choice until the summer at the earliest.

It will be glorious if we get to the point that people we like seeing (and us) have had it so we can do some things as normal.

My suspicion is they left people in their homes to die.

Or they recorded a lot of the early batch as pneumonia deaths.

I hope you don’t experience the horror looking back at it like I had.

Unless you did it with people you know. The one I did was with strangers and it’s a very very sad thing to do.

Yeah it won’t replicate the pub experience. If you’re just going around somebody’s house eating, drinking and chatting then you’re not losing too much though. It’s not a way of living forever but it will get us through the next however many months.

There *was* an article on Asianews about 45,000 people needing their ashes collected in Wuhan. Their website has been taken down.

The asiannews site always seems dodgy af to me. Wouldnt be at all surprised if it was owned by America as a propaganda machine.

The Group is holding one of those gay virtual calls if anyone is interested in some banter (on zengit so no app download required), link should go directly to the room.

Currently just me, Kiko, Sama, Benny and Cearles but GS is headed in soon after he showers.

I left because my mrs had a stalker. Left all social media etc. Did keep my account on a leeds forum as I had never shared anything personal unlike on here.
