I reckon my employer is even now poring over the text trying to find the loopholes to keep everyone in.
If he does, just go off sick Jim. Either back to back self isolations due to symptoms of every family member you have or play the stress/depression card.
The behaviour of many companies has been an absolute disgrace. Especially those close to / in London. The footage of the trains into London today was criminal.
My work mate forwarded a message from his wife to their family group chat earlier. She's Irish, head of the household, would have your bollocks in a vice grip if you crossed her. She's also a head nurse (Matron?) at a London Hospital. She's had to hand over 2 wards for Covid19 cases today. She's terrified and telling her 80 year old dad not to leave the house for any reason.

My place has already been applying the most liberal interpretation of ‘essential’ as possible. Currently going with ‘there is no longer a distinction between frontline and back office in the NHS’. I sort of take the point, but my job can absolutely be done from home and I’m very reluctant to increase my personal risk. I also need a wage, though.
I've developed a theory that they will now requisition several office staff for the warehouse in order to transfer our status to 'could not possibly do job from home'.

If even half these horror stories are true then I'd seriously consider going out on my own terms if I got it.
I’m very willing to go off with something stress-related, quite honestly. I don’t care about anything more than I do about the risk to me and the people I care about.

Any indication from previous co-workers as to how the Koreans are handling this?

Just in our work group chat the Russian girl is asking what’s going on she doesn’t have English tv. They are all going in tomorrow morning as none of them have prepped to work from home. We are fucking mortgage advisers people it’s not essential. Besides which no valuations are going to be taking place.

My wife works for a large insurer(over 1000 people in the office) no plans to close as they deem the work they do to be essential.
Luckily she has been chosen to trial working from home as they were trying to plan. Absolute jokers though and this will be the problem firms will decide if they are essential.

Curious to see what an oil company views as 'essential' in this context.
I've got a box coming tomorrow will see how that goes, I've also just upgraded to 5x per week.
Depends what you ordered but it's basically some green beans and chicken thigh subbed out for me. I mean, it's basically nothing.
The hope has to be that after a couple of weeks of an inevitably horrible increase in cases and deaths, we see a bit of a change and by the end of the third week people are convinced enough that it’s having an effect that they’ll stomach a further extension of this.
Hopefully we’ll have bought enough time to have ramped up testing and be close to anti-body tests that we can start planning to open up some elements of normal life in the summer. We basically need to drive cases down enough that we can do a South Korea. We are much too far gone right now.
Yeah, as a liver alone, the 'other than those you live with' bits really stung. I'm basically not allowed to see anyone until July or something.
Same, I’m kinda glad I have to go into work once a week, if only to see other people in person.

I'm a hermit too but it's the loss of control which is the problem. Like, if my mum invites me for dinner I am now legally obliged to say no, possibly for months. That's a truly damaging situation if it goes on for a long time, less so for me than for people in less fortunate situations than me.

They defined key workers in relation to the school closures, and it has clearly been obvious enough for most companies and people to realise. The only weird anomaly is construction. You would think that would be shut down, but then maybe there are safety elements to leaving jobs half done or unattended for long periods, and then you could argue inside/outside work.

The official guidance refers to exceptions for 'health shops' and 'bicycle shops', which leaves enough enough wiggle room in there for him if he insists on being a wank, but otherwise - and assuming the majority of businesses aren't wanks - it's all pretty comprehensive (other than construction). I bet mobile hairdressers are going to be doing a roaring trade going from house to house on word of mouth.

This is shoddy and dangerous reporting. Finding traces of the virus (in this case, viral RNA) does not necessarily mean it is the live virus that has the ability to infect people (it may, but it also may not, and the article makes no claims to that end as far as I can tell).

Boring as hell. But, the sky is blue, pollution is at its lowest levels and traffic is an all time low.
I fear we are just about to hit a full lockdown as the number of cases, whilst low, are increasing daily, and the government is scared shitless. The biggest problem for expats is that the Gov have basically put a hold on all new VISAs, WP and Residency - so there's a lot of folks stuck here without permission, hoping for clemency when this blows over.

Covid Premier Deaths per 1m Population League Table
Some big news today, with the UK recording the highest ever climb in the table, moving up an astonishing 8 places, sitting just outside automatic qualification to the Europa Covid League. Western European nations continue to dominate, with France and Netherlands both climbing 5 places. However, this is offset by Austria (-6), Germany (-8) and Norway (-10) also dropping.
At the summit, and the race for Champions Covid qualification, Italy and Spain all but guarantee their qualification, achieving more than quadruple and double the 3rd placed team deaths per 1m, respectively.
USA continue to defy the odds, with just 582 deaths recorder thus far - however, these numbers continue to be questioned, with China threatening to ask WHO to look into this, and possible even to get CAS to get involved.
At the bottom, Denmark were dumped into the Championship after reporting sluggish numbers, and Malaysia, who quite frankly were always punching above their weight, were finally relegated. The first South American nation were welcomed, with Samba-plagued boys from Brazil being joined by another European outfit, in Turkey.
My prediction for 2 days time is to see Brazil rapidly climb the table, baring some mischievous reporting, whilst the Top 10 should consolidate their positions.

We're still in, had an email at 7am that everyone is expected in as normal, but now discipline is starting to break down and I can't see it holding for a day. The MD has completely lost control.
They did indeed try to requisition a couple for the warehouse but, bravely, they refused (correctly contending that in the warehouse no 2m rule is being observed). MD shat himself and has retreated to his bunker. Meanwhile, other department heads are demanding sales be sent home.

All non-essential businesses will be closed and everyone will have to stay at home except for solitary exercise and visiting essential services.
Supermarkets will stay open throughout the four-week lockdown and the supply chain will stay running.
My mate works for the government and still hasn't been sent to WFH even though he absolutely could in his role, which is pretty shambolic.

This is exposing just how backwards we are when it comes to having to be in an office. And that applies in normal times too.
There is literally nothing in my job I can’t do from home now that all the work I do with clinical people is rightly gone for the foreseeable. My boss is a good bloke and genuinely very bright (and, ironically, a virologist by background) but the notion of remote meetings just doesn’t work in his head. He doesn’t get it. ‘It’s not as good as face to face’. And there might be truth in that, but right now we have to get on with good enough.
He means well. When he tells me he wants to balance my need to attend with the level of risk he is telling the truth. It’s just that proper remote working has never been a thing in his head. It’s something he’s happy with if there’s a piece of work that needs doing which can be done just as well at home. He just can’t comprehend that we can interact differently.

My gf's housing association have been replacing her kitchen. So far they've disconnected everything, removed all the cupboards, sideboards and floor, the plasterer game yesterday so that's done. Then today she got a call to say they aren't coming. They where meant to be putting counters and cupboards in, and connecting her cooker and washer back up.
Hopefully they can get someone to sort it, to at least a basic working kitchen level.

I spent most of it not saying anything so that my webcam wasn’t one of the four (out of twelve) that people see and spent the entire duration (44 mins) stroking the cat and refreshing the Morrison’s website to try and get a delivery slot.

You (well at least Germany but I suppose it's similar in Austria) are presumably already far ahead in testing compared to most other countries.
How each country attributes deaths to COVID is also a point of contention, but I don't think we'll ever properly find out about that.

Number of reported cases. I was going to just do number of death per 1m, but then the table is skewed shitty little places like Andorra, San Marino and Iceland. Number of positive cases at least provides a minimum size threshold, though not perfect.

Day 25 since first symptoms: ever so slight an improvement on loss of smell and taste senses. Barely noticeable if I wasn't so in tune with my mind and body but it has also come about at the same time as an onset of body aches. This presents a key scientific finding, the virus baddies trapped in my nasal cavity have been dislodged slightly and are not waging a futile battle in my system. Aye, it would. I'm not even sure. I've definitely had some lung inflammation lately but that could've just been the cold mornings tickling my athsma. The sore throat keeps trying to make a comeback but it's more dry than irritated.
From next week, 5,500 final year medics and more than 18,700 final year student nurses will "move to the frontline" of the NHS
Oh.

I've been a pinnacle of health since I got over pneumonia in May (got it in Feb). I definitely haven't had anything since, and this cough and breath is giving me the fear.

Just thrashed out a deal which will see us go to rotation policy which for me means two days in a week. When I say 'thrashed out a deal', what I mean is I went to MD's office, found him dithering and cowering like a broken man, and basically told him we had to do this at a minimum.
In days I'm sure it'll go to full closure.
In stunning news most of the office have been put on furlough until the end of May, skeleton staff only (possibly literally). My suspicion is it became cheaper to let Boris pay us our 80% than to have us schlepping about the office with no customers to speak of.
Officially out of the running for TTH Last Man Standing.

I’ve had the dry cough for 13 days, shortness of breath for 9, viral conjunctivitis over the weekend and nausea with the shits today. I’m increasingly convinced this is it.
Sounds like you tick every box. What's your R0?

I've finally had my results and apparently I've not had coronavirus, I've just had a different respiratory viral infection (and presumably have coronavirus to look forward to in the coming weeks/months).
It's a bit of a shitter really because I've felt absolutely fucking awful (and even now my breathing is not back to normal) and I've not even had the thing that's causing all this chaos.

I'm holding onto the benefit of the doubt here, but if a senior NHS staff member has been going to work with a dry cough for 13 days then there is no hope.
Let it out. Let it out now.

When do we accept that 'mass death' is the only viable way forward?
I’ve been self-isolating since last Thursday. My boss didn’t care about the cough. He argued about the definition of ‘persistent’. But my cough was a week old by that point and my shortness of breath was three days old. I reported all of this. And, yes, I was still required in meetings. I’m pretty angry about it, to be perfectly honest.

Officially at least, fewer than 18% of the deaths caused by this are now in China.

I think you’ve to try your best rather than throw in the towel. Whatever sort of world you think we’ll be left with after this, it wouldn’t even come close to one where we just said fuck everyone to avoid some inconvenience.
That thinking is bordering on morbid fetish territory too.

I don’t think I have.
I’ve had to pretend I had a one day fever for them to even agree to the self-isolation.
It’s one of the reasons I’m quite willing to go off sick with something stress related and pick up the six months full pay if they fuck me around on working from home. I absolutely do not need to be in the building (a building I know the virus exists is) to do my job. I’m just not willing to increase the risk to me or Lauren.

Hancock says they’ve ordered 3.5m anti-body tests. That’s the way out of this. We just need to stick with things as they are for a bit.

I know those feels, papa.
The building my office is in is officially closed.
And work sent a survey our saying “if you are happy to do any of these, how experienced are you out of 5” with stuff like driving a minibus, caring for the elderly/children, admin, driving a HGV. :cab:
I ticked NONE of the boxes and submitted it. Fuck off with your redeployment attempts - I have actual work to be doing. It’s the end of the financial year ffs and I work in contracts.
I have fuck all to be doing because my work requires the poor bastards gearing up to save lives through all this. And I still haven’t responded to the ‘voluntary redeployment’ form.

I reckon if Our NHS Heroes really go the extra mile, they might just burgle us a (mawkish, but handy) extra Bank Holiday. Boris would fucking love to create an extra one of those, I bet.

Beautifully quiet in Aberdeen. Went for a walk from 6-7pm and the streets were absolutely empty. I was walking pretty centrally and saw maybe 10-15 people. Popped into the supermarket on the way home too and it was also empty. Milk and pizza available. Perfect.
Going to go out my nut if they take away the Outdoors bit.
Pretty disappointed golf courses are closed though. Solo golf around a countryside club would’ve been perfect right now. Annoying.
