This was obvious in early-March, and why the initial government approach was the right one. Now here we are, four months into a three week lockdown and people are still being pathetic.

If the government had handled things remotely properly then there might be a chance of people listening to them if they said "now is the time to get out again", but they've repeatedly fisted it from day 1 and have completely lost control so it doesn't matter what they say now.

Shindig
25-07-2020, 05:58 PM
In fairness, you can never test enough when there's so many asymptomatic people about. The government's always asking people to come forward so they can catch a wide net. Track and trace is supposed to be helping with that as well but, if you've got a person who doesn't feel unwell, they're going to do fuck all.

Lewis
25-07-2020, 06:00 PM
They were handling it properly, but should have been unwinding it as soon as the peak was over in April (or whenever it was) and Our NHS didn't fall to pieces. They lost me with the schools re-opening cowardice.

We could do with some airport testing with quick turnarounds. I suspect we don't have the gear for that.

Lewis
25-07-2020, 06:16 PM
I wouldn't have gone much beyond what was originally suggested, but you can see how they came to the decision to lockdown for a few weeks while the worst of it came around. Once we got a look at it though it should have been wound down months ago. Flatten the curve made sense, and then it somehow moved to eradicating it, which isn't happening.

We're probably going to have developed a vaccine within 12 months of this thing coming into existence. Seems pretty good going to me.

Spot on. And all because of scientists and their hard work. To think there are people insistent on criticising them.

I just checked the UN Vaccine Landscape and the only ones in phase 3 are Chinese Pharma companies so you can forget those.

The only other is this one using Antigens with a similar technique to Zika which isn't a vaccine but a 'cure' with reprecussions.

Yevrah
26-07-2020, 12:48 AM
We're not going to get a vaccine by the end of this year, it's cloud cuckoo land to think we will. And I've no beef with actual scientists, they're doing the best work going during all of this.

It's definitely not cloud cuckoo land. I'm convinced the Oxford vaccine will be approved before the end of the year. I've said it from the start: there will be no traditional 'phase 3' here. It will be approved as soon as they see it is safe and produces antibodies.

America will rush one through as well. They already skipped the animal testing in favour of human trials. India wanted a vaccine by August which .... y'know, isn't on.

It is a strong reaction, but then we've had 450 cases and 0 deaths so far, so I'm happy to follow the government on this one. Note: it seems flights and still moving in and out, just mask wearing, social distancing and no crowds gathering enacted again.

People here are complaining about wearing a mask in a shop. Whilst it is an inconvenience, it's really nothing more. And surely, if it helps restrict the spread of the virus, it's an inconvenience worth having.

In the spirit of transparency, I did enter a shop on Friday without a mask because I forgot it. The shop owner did not throw me out.

I see the England curve is slowly increasing. Although, I think the economy will be the main driver now.

Listening to those people coming back from Spain, some of them are really fucking thick. "It felt safer there than in the UK. No mandatory face masks or anything."

Aye. Makes you wonder how it came back so quick, doesn't it? And then another cunt comes on saying he's going to fuck the quarantine off because, "DOMINIC CUMMINZ! And they gave us no notice which is bloody typical government!" He says as the government's typical response has been to wait at least two weeks to introduce everything.

Dquincy
27-07-2020, 09:18 AM
The cumming's excuse is moronic. And people complaining about the quick response of the UK government implementing the Spain quarantine are even more moronic. If you chose to go on holiday when there is an active pandemic, then you must accept the risks that come with it.

I know people have compared the CV-19 lockdown with what people had to overcome during WW1 and WW2, but i wonder if people bitched and moaned about it as much back then as they are now.

They’re like gold dust with about a 2 week wait last time I checked here. They also ask that if you’re not old, etc that you don’t get one.

It's a change. I haven't been on lockdown at all during this, and I've barely experienced any restrictions on my daily life (save for clubs closing) so flying into a place where you can't sit inside at a restaurant and where there are literally painted circles on the grass telling you where to sit was a bit of a culture shock. 'I'm entitled to travel'

Shona Lille, from Sheffield, said she was "itching" to get away to Ibiza.

"I'm excited," she said. "I'm a traveller and should be in a different country every single month but I haven't been anywhere since last year.

"I will stick to the guidelines, and wear my masks where I have to wear them so I'm doing everything. I just feel that I have the entitlement to travel and I will travel."

From a BBC vox pop article. I've had something gnawing at me in terms of a certain attitude that's been winding me up of late and this captures it perfectly.

I had a housemate in Norwich whose entire personality was his travel stories, to the point where, as far as I could tell, he didn't seem to pay any attention to anything that was going on or whatever else normal people at least have a passing interest in. He would just tell you about work (he had done a Masters before I got there and somehow wrangled staying on in the student house) and steer everything round to the time he was whatever in wherever.

This pandemic has starkly revealed the consequences of casualisation in industries such as food distribution, meat processing, health care and private security. I don't think a vaccine will be the end of it. I think people will just become so desensitised to Covid (alot of us already have) that we'll pretty much just go back to normal and the media/government will stop talking about the deaths.

I mean, we're already largely back to normal. Just with masks on (that really isn't a big deal you pussies) and with people standing a bit further apart from normal.

The peak was only 2-3 months ago and half the population have already lost all fear. Give it another 3 months and zero fucks will be given.

The big difference I noticed was the clarity of communication. I haven't got a fucking clue what's going on in the UK - the message is a mumbled fucktruck of mess. Here, we received an SMS from the Govt stating the new measures and the time they will be implemented (usually midnight at the end of that day). Easy.

New lockdown announced in the north of England just hours before Eid al-Adha

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has been criticised for imposing a new partial lockdown in parts of northern England on the eve of Muslim festival Eid al-Adha. In a statement released on Thursday evening, Hancock said there would be restrictions on family gatherings, starting on Friday. Many have compared the move to preventing people from seeing their loved ones at Christmas.

Honestly, the interplay between deadly disease and political correctness this year has been the most fascinating aspect of the whole thing.

JFC. For context, the pop is 86% white and 7% Asian.

People have so little imagination. Hot day = go to the beach. Why? Are there not places inland you can sunbathe?

It tends to be cooler by the coast.

I suppose you could go to some sort of reservoir and have a nice Stand By Me type experience.

Why is flying in a mask shit? Does it get in the way of the champagne and canapes?

Twitter shilling desperately hard for it being pubs and beaches with all the nasty white people. 40% Asian, lads. 40% Asian. Mind-blowing stuff.

If it's pubs, why isn't there a uniform uptick across the whole country?

Are drinkers in Bradford, Leicester, Rochdale, Blackburn etc the only ones who get pissed enough not to socially distance?

Was out in London all day and had a crackimg day until it got to 10pm onwards and I had to search through the corpses of all form of nightlife that was slaughtered.

What's this Asian angle to this, 40% of all cases are Asian? I need to be clearly informed before I start blasting out friendly fire.

The general consensus is that they generally work high risk jobs. Be it rich Asian dr's or shop owners or poor Asian workers in factories and 'sweat shops'. Plus, they are a far more social society then other races and often live in larger family units.

I posted the recent weekly positive case stats higher up on this page. Basically the white (and black) number has been decreasing steadily and the Asian number isn't going anywhere, which is what is driving this set of northern lockdowns but no one can say it.

One can draw one's own conclusions as to why this is, sympathetically or otherwise, but it's a fact.

Best you can get is a Tunnocks on a Logan air.

Nope. Can still bring hand luggage on.

I was needing to choose a suitable set of chocolatey/biscuity things this morning to cover a couple of days' cricket, had a good long look at the Tunnocks Caramel but ended up choosing Nature Valley oats and honey. Already in my bottom 5 worst life decisions.

This is genuinely tragic. There's literally not a worse bar on the shelf.

Maybe Alpen. Fuck Alpen.

Caramel wafers and tea cakes are my go to snack to take offshore so that the operators tolerate having me there.

Chuck a tea cake in the fridge if you want to improve it’s taste

The caramel log splits opinion though. I’m in the “totally average” camp.

Still better than a nature valley bar though you absolute mentalist. Would’ve been better with a packet of rich tea.

I think some logic ran through my brain about health and the fact they wouldn't melt in the car, and somehow this warped thinking became an actual purchase. Nature Valley Oats and Honey: a Tunnocks Caramel designed by committee.

As Spikey says, it sounds like a fairly straightforward result of Asians doing actual jobs whilst whites hide behind a laptop doing shit that could have been automated 20 years ago. It's not like any one is actually following any social distancing.

Jimmy Floyd

There are a lot of whites that do shit jobs too, which makes me think it is indeed all down to these sweatshop type workplaces where everyone's packed in and paid £2 an hour in a way chalky wouldn't accept.
