English, Maths and Science are pretty much bedrocks of education.
But yeah, your BTEC in Food Tech is more important m8. :henn0rz:

Yeah but doing only those things because you need to 'catch up' is a reductive bollocks of an education.
Not the point of my insult Jim.
Can confirm Maths alone will allow you to develop into a[n autistic] don of all things. Everything else is just bullshit fluff.

Not the point of my insult Jim.
I was only responding to your first line, I assumed you were insulting Spikey because the very suggestion of me having a BTec in Food Tech would have resulted in a call to Carter Ruck.
How does not doing a load of other subjects help you 'catch up' with English and Maths? I'd have thought doing History, Geography, languages, technologies, science etc would help stimulate/develop the English and Maths if anything.
This might just be me talking, but I found English lessons at school to be a pretty pointless load of wank and all the language and clarity of expression I picked up will have been from other subjects and more to the point, just the fact of being at school, talking to people and having to read stuff constantly.
Well this is just it. There's even evidence showing that too narrow a focus on English and Maths is not good for progress of pupils.
English, Maths and Science might be the bedrock, and are rightly the 'core' subjects, but you don't only use those skills and knowledge in those lessons.

In a sense, every other subject is just applied English and/or Maths, which is far more useful in many ways than the neat stuff.

It's the first of many dominoes. So many businesses rely on that airport, from those working there to the Taxi drivers outside, the train station opposite, the hotel outside it, etc. It's a huge loss to a town that has very few large employers.

The number of COVID-19 cases has gone up in 36 local authority areas in England.
Knowsley, Bolton, and Hammersmith and Fulham experienced the biggest increases in the rate per 100,000 people.
In Knowsley, Merseyside, the rate of infection has gone up from 6 people per 100,000 to 20/100,000.
In Bolton, which is part of Greater Manchester, the rate has increased from 16/100,000 to 23 and in Hammersmith and Fulham, west London, the rate has changed from 6/100,000 to 12.
In all but one of the 36 authority areas, the rate has increased by less than 10/100,000.
Is it me or is this all proper wankery? 36 local authorities is 10.4% of the English total (so I presume infections decreasing in 89.6% of local authorities) and the numbers mentioned are absolutely tiny. H&F has less than 200,000 population so we're talking about an extra 10/11 people having Covid there in a week, unless my maths has completely failed me.

Us lot at work have talked about it and we're going to go at the end of the month when the novelty should have died down.
At this point drinking in a garden with the BBQ going and the football on TV is far more enjoyable experience than prebooking the local pub for a 3 hour slot.

Cricket update. Boris went on LBC and was asked about why it is still banned. He said, in contrast to his previous waffle: 'Well, it's not the ball so much, but changing rooms and tea.' It's literally in the existing guidance that we won't be using changing rooms, and no one gives a fuck about tea, YET we have already been issued with detailed guidance about how to open clubhouse bars including serving food.
This could be the thing that finally stops me voting Tory.

I had a lengthy meeting about our bar last night and in the end we decided the best way to socially distance it was to serve bottles of beer by the dozen in huge ice buckets, so that fewer individuals would physically come to the bar or into the building at all. And people say Covid has been a bad thing.

What is "your bar"?
In the cricket club, which we're not allowed to play cricket at but we are allowed to open the (indoor) clubhouse bar to serve drinks and food - although the reason we can't play cricket is (according to Boris) because there's a half time break where people go into the clubhouse for drinks and food.
It really does take some mental stretching to get one's head around, but the income is handy.

Pubs up here started doing take-away pints a couple of weeks ago, and most people seemed to be buying them and then drinking them outside the pub or in the park. Drinking in public places is banned in Glasgow but there seemed to be a bit of a blind eye being turned.
There was a slight uptick to the usual amount of 18 year olds trashing the place and pissing everywhere so in the most pointless measure ever they're banning the sale of alcohol for consumption off premises from Monday.
Which is the same day that beer gardens open. Glasgow's beer garden capacity is paltry at the best of times so I'm really not sure they've thought this one through.

My current thing to get wound up by on Twitter is blue ticks (almost always nicely off, with secure jobs in nice houses with family around them) self-righteously declaring that THEY won't be off to the pubs until it's SAFE.
Try living in a shitbox flat on an estate, or having to go work in a shit job every day, or having lost your job, or being on your own, or being in a strained relationship at home etc etc and being lectured by these Lib Dem voting cunts.

Oh no I have to sit home and watch netflix and eat and drink. Basically 3 months of Christmas.
God fucking love all these saps if there’s a proper war any time soon.

Add to that the idea anyone getting contacted might go, "Withheld number? Fucking scammers." I'm assuming the govt tracers chuck texts out as well, mind. :D
Sounds like the pub I was even worse than Taz's when it came to the regulations. Nobody asked me for any of my details, at any point.

The fundamental problem with that as well is that they're not going to be safe from Covid-19, nothing that involves people is going to be safe from Covid-19.

I'm struggling to understand how the people wanting to get on with life, rather than cowering behind curtains are the saps?

Because they’re been crying false mental health for 3 months.

Have they? I've seen very little of that.

Haven't quite a few of the scientific advisors said they think it's too soon for everything to be opening up the way it is?

Scientific advisors are always going to say that. At some point you need to just go ahead when the balance of risk is right (not when there's no risk, or it's see you in 2050).

Did end up having a few in a pub but not my local and took the sesh to a house at about 6 so hard to judge the corona state of play. Bless 'em they did try with their arrows and contact forms but let's just say compliance was lacking :D It's all well and good hoping a second wave won't come if we social distance but I now see why they fret about nightlife, it all goes out the window. The wave will come and they'll shut them down again.
It's been 'out the window' in schools for five weeks now, fwiw.
Lovely to see Jim and Yev leave team panic.

I've seen 1 doing that. My wife's cousin has been babied well into her 20's and moved out in February. She's been using her anxiety as an excuse to break the lockdown rules since its inception.
On the other hand, I deal with a lot of people with Mental Health issues in my line of work. Some I suspect made up, some genuine. All of them that I've spoken to are staying at home, refusing to let their kids go back to school, etc.

It also took them how many months to recommend face masks and were also claiming large gatherings weren't much of an issue. They're fucking useless.

The team I've always been on is "Team react to what's currently happening".
