European countries struggle to enforce social distancing
Over the weekend we saw people in the UK flouting official advice, travelling to tourist hot spots and crowded markets. But nations across Europe have also struggled to enforce tight new restrictions.

On Monday, officials in Belgium said Brussels police had issued 288 penalty fines in just 24 hours - the highest number since confinement rules came into force in the country. Depends how quick we can get cases down. Which still feels a long way off. Even then things won’t be normal until there’s a vaccine or enough immunity. The next couple of years is likely to consist of intermittent closing and opening. Hopefully, as we get tests out to see who has had it, the lockdowns can be a bit more targeted. I think air travel is a way off but it’s plausible across Europe within the year if the ‘external border’ is sealed and European nations lockdown when necessary. I don’t think the necessary level of co-ordination for that exists though.
