They'd closed all of the seating areas and just done takeaway and drive through, but they've now gone a step further and will shut entirely. I applaud that. Well, unless they have a good government source who has told them it's happening tomorrow night come what may.

But even mostly takeaway it's totally rammed. Fuck sake.

Had an email and text from my boss, he has asked for us to let him know if we need to isolate and supports it fully and asked for our availability next week. He says he is going to keep the number of staff as limited as he can, if you’re in, it’s to work with children and not to do other less important tasks.
We were meant to all go in tomorrow and have a meeting where he’s sort out a rota, but it seems he’s doing that at home today and let us know later, so only the people who need to be are in tomorrow.

A surprisingly sensible way of doing it.

Off tomorrow, in Tuesday. He's paired up each person with someone else, wants everyone to work 50% of their contracted hours and to split it with who you're paired with.

As the weekend has wore on and examples of idiocy have become more prevalent, I've questioned more and more whether it's morally right for any business that can't be classed as essential to continue trading.

Its not really that simple. If I closed up shop tomorrow some other scaffolding company would swoop in and take the work and most probably the builders off me.

I had a chat with one of the respiratory consultants about this because the fiance has mild asthma and work were asking her if she should be coming in or not. He said the data is that mild asthma in an otherwise healthy young person puts you at no higher risk of serious illness with covid than baseline.

Idk how bad your asthma is or how old you are so that may or may not apply to you.

European countries struggle to enforce social distancing
Over the weekend we saw people in the UK flouting official advice, travelling to tourist hot spots and crowded markets. But nations across Europe have also struggled to enforce tight new restrictions.

On Monday, officials in Belgium said Brussels police had issued 288 penalty fines in just 24 hours - the highest number since confinement rules came into force in the country. Those punished included couples eating in parks, people drinking beer outside cafes and bar owners refusing to shut up shop.

Authorities in France have issued thousands of fines, and have deployed drones to enforce the strict lockdown rules. Some charities last week even alleged police had fined homeless people for not self-isolating, although this is unconfirmed.

In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Sunday a ban on all gatherings of more than two people who aren't family. It came just days after police in the state of Bavaria shut down a number of public "corona parties", organised by young people on social media. Premier Markus Söder called the gatherings "a real threat".

Europeans can't cope with this for shit. No surprise given what we've all been aware of, but I do find it very interesting.

I've just been in Tesco and while it generally wasn't as mad as I expected, there was one complete headbanger who pushed the net insanity of the place through the roof on his own. He was demanding to scan his own shopping, because he didn't want the staff touching it in case they had 'the clonevirus', but was also refusing to use the self service checkouts because there were people there who might also have it. His stated demand was that they clean down an unopen till and allow him to sit there and scan his own shopping. The staff were having none of it, and I along with a few others who'd stopped to watch laughed very loud and very long, but he hadn't given up by the time it got boring, and I could still hear him shouting as I exited the shop a little while later.

Still not a shred of toilet roll in the place, but luckily the panic buying shits still haven't thought to go to corner shops and the like yet so my local Asian man still has three shelves full.

We've been put on a rota as expected. We only had around 35 children in so they've been merged into two classes, meaning we have seven teaching staff plus a dozen or so support staff for two classes per day. We're only having to go in either once or twice a week. This could all change with illnesses and lockdowns, but I'm in every Wednesday and every third Friday.

No one is wearing masks in Europe full stop, their effectiveness is a complete myth. It's something Asians are obsessed with and have been since SARS.

Rubbish.
At their basic level they prevent people you are talking to / close to from spitting all over you, sneezing on you and coughing shite all over you. They may not be 100% effective, but they work.

Edit: from The Guardian

Claim: ‘Face masks don’t work’
Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks. However, masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone (although others have found lower levels of effectiveness).

If you are likely to be in close contact with someone infected, a mask cuts the chance of the disease being passed on. If you’re showing symptoms of coronavirus, or have been diagnosed, wearing a mask can also protect others. So masks are crucial for health and social care workers looking after patients and are also recommended for family members who need to care for someone who is ill – ideally both the patient and carer should have a mask.

However, masks will probably make little difference if you’re just walking around town or taking a bus so there is no need to bulk-buy a huge supply

Jimmy Floyd

I believe this is the point. Wearing a mask won't really do anything to stop you from getting anything (hence no one bothers) but they are effective at reducing the chances of people getting something from you.

I looked yesterday and I could only get a click and collect from Tesco if I was prepared to order it for 11th April. Don't know if I've got enough food to last until then and I wouldn't bank on it all being available by that point anyway.

I am still getting a HelloFreah food delivery each week fine.

If you can cook and you're worried about food get on to HelloFresh or Gusto etc. Obviously not the same as a big Tesco shop but means you'll need the Tesco shop less often.

I can send a code for £20 off the first box if anyone interested.

There are 10m people in Lombardy, so if their daily death count has already peaked (if, I should add) then I can't see how that isn't good news - It doesn't seem consistent with a peak taking months to arrive at or 1% of the population dying from this.

Depends how quick we can get cases down. Which still feels a long way off. Even then things won’t be normal until there’s a vaccine or enough immunity. The next couple of years is likely to consist of intermittent closing and opening. Hopefully, as we get tests out to see who has had it, the lockdowns can be a bit more targeted. I think air travel is a way off but it’s plausible across Europe within the year if the ‘external border’ is sealed and European nations lockdown when necessary. I don’t think the necessary level of co-ordination for that exists though.

I’d like to know how far we are from these anti-body tests. And the tests that tell you if you have it currently. The government says it has ordered ‘millions’ of the former and the Koreans and Americans are already producing the latter.

Presumably (given they’re supposedly not technically difficult to make) we just requisition portions of whatever industries can create them, get them out to almost everybody and then we’re are potentially weeks away from destroying the disruption caused by the little cunt through gradually reducing circles of isolation.

The government has effectively nationalised the nation now anyway so it may as well get to it.

I know you don’t really mean it so I’m just going to note that you shouldn’t really be saying stuff like that you don’t mean. It makes you seem like a nutter.

If he doesn't mean it then he should. I think he's man of enough conviction not to be saying stuff he doesn't mean anyway.

You will absolutely in no circumstances tell me what I should and should not be saying.

Hahahahahaha.

All non essential shops to shut and no more than gatherings of 2.

Where I am the queue was enough that it delayed ambulance journeys by 4 minutes.

This, on mass testing:

https://bylinetimes.com/2020/03/23/the-coronavirus-crisis-mass-testing-is-the-vaccine-until-there-is-a-vaccine-and-could-prevent-70-of-deaths-say-nhs-consultants/

Fuck knows about the costing, and obviously there will be global competition for this stuff. But so we not need to pull our fingers out? I can’t imagine nothing is happening, but it would be good to know how far off we are.

Those who aren't infected won't carry out the required social distancing post-test if they're not doing it now. Unless you police this strictly it has flaws.

Given personal experience, I'm still of the mind millions are infected though and the antibody test being released will be the solution to all this.

Yeah, you need both. We need to know who is immune as they’ll be keeping the economy running.

I thought he was, but now I'm not sure. No groups of more than 2 is big.

God knows how businesses decide if they need to close or not.

Yeah it was the only allowed to go to and from work if it's absolutely necessary but where I thought he was chickening out. You just know so many dickhead business owners are going to tell their staff it's necessary.

LOCKDOWN then.

No doubt my place will maintain their position that I can’t work from home and that I can still attend meeting on 20+ people.

Pretty much yeah. Although they should all be closing given they've got the government support for wages.

Yeah there's no chance our labourer will stop coming.

Luckily he's working outside and in the flat downstairs.

Yeah three of the people I work with have continued working from the office and are now panicking that they haven’t gotten everything in place to work from home. This is where these kind of things fall down, because I know they will all go in tomorrow morning.

I reckon my employer is even now poring over the text trying to find the loopholes to keep everyone in.

My place has already been applying the most liberal interpretation of ‘essential’ as possible. Currently going with ‘there is no longer a distinction between frontline and back office in the NHS’. I sort of take the point, but my job can absolutely be done from home and I’m very reluctant to increase my personal risk. I also need a wage, though.

My boss wants me to go to a customer tomorrow where all the eastern european employees live on site in what could be described as a commune. Not a chance they're taking any precautions, they'll just bury any one of them that gets badly sick and ship over another one in their place. Not a fucking chance.
