You're making about as much sense as the rules.
There's no recovery exemption in the US currently. Vaccinated or you're not coming in.

I think the main problem John has is he sees the numbers and goes, "SCANDALOUS. WE SHOULD HAVE THIS DATA TO PROVIDE PERSONALISED CARE. HOW DO THEY CALL THIS SAFE." When the US numbers equate to a 0.04% incidence rate. If you've got a vaccine that's 99.96% successful, you consider it safe enough. As for the personalised care argument, the list of complications are so scattershot there's no real pattern to them in February 2021.

I don't think that's quite right. There was obviously a sliding scale of efficacy [or whatever the word is] in terms of preventing severe disease [high], symptomatic infection [medium/high], all infection [medium - less discernible obviously] and then transmission [medium/low] but they absolutely did stop people getting it to a decent extent and the idea that there was a rapid drop off after 10-12 weeks would, from a layman's perspective, appear to be what we are now seeing/experiencing.

Quick question, Tim. How? I know you provide localised data but so does the fucking government.
Had a PCR test today cos I’ve had a cold for like 4 weeks. Can still taste and smell though so presume it’ll be negative.
Means I can speak to the doctor and not be fobbed off, hopefully.
The numbers in my circles coming down with it are pretty high currently. There's been a couple at work who have seemingly been hit with it pretty bad even though they're young. I can't see it with the summer sun on the way but there's glimmers of hope...

Yeah, the US requirements at least made a bit more sense. Proof of vaccination, proof of negative test and a form to say you have provided both to an airline official.
Come to think of it, I've had some airport bollocks this week.
1. The lad at Newcastle check-out couldn't produce the boarding pass for the third leg of my trip over there. No bother, I'll just check-in at Seattle and get it there.
2. I kept placing my boarding pass and passport on my case. "I'd better keep an eye on this so I don't lose this.", I thought to myself. Seconds later, lost this in Heathrow. Luckily some legend picked it up and took it to the gate. Crisis averted.
3. The CDC don't like valve masks. Luckily they were handing disposables at the gate. Still at Heathrow.
4. Third leg of the trip over was a flight to SFO with Alaska Airlines. I had a four hour wait for the flight and thought I was being smart by going to the BA desk as they sold me the ticket. At very least I'd get an Alaska flight number. Nope. They directed me to American Airlines as they couldn't find it on their system. American Airlines finds me the flight number and off I go to the Alaska Airline desks. They're packed, all families. Most of them with car seats they're desperate to check in. Once I get there, I finally get my boarding pass but it takes a supervisor overlooking a trainee to find me. :D
5. On to security at Seattle. The lass working the x-ray doesn't like my canvas bag and wants me to empty it. She suggests its full of needles. It is not. I don't even empty it. I just zip it up and send it back through. Back off, Courtney Love.
6. Customs is empty. I stroll on through within minutes. This leaves me with 3 hours of nothing but listening to service announcements featuring the bloke from Modest Mouse.
7. Good news! The flight is full. I decide to draw the short straw and get my cabin bag checked. Crucially, they tell everyone how many bags they're looking for and they get the magic number at the first time of asking.
8. Heathrow, nearly home. Passport control is packed and they've turned off all but one of the terminals. The remaining terminal is broke and is maybe letting every 5th person through. Backlogged to fuck, they open the other terminals and I manage to get through on one of them. The downside is I've now been funnelled landside and need to pass through security the long way round. This is why I hate random airport staff waving you through places you don't quite need to be in.
9. Good news! The flight to Newcastle is full! This time the gate attendant is all polite about it and nobody takes up the offer to check cabin bags. So boarding commences and they just grab randoms out of the first few boarding groups. Our flight is now late departing by ten minutes. Boydy would be seething.

I’d think the simplest explanation for the cyclist (and many masked motorists I see on their own in a car) is that when you’re not militant about it you actually forget you’re wearing one. They’re the easiest measure of all but many just can’t handle being told they should do something, which is a real pity.

It was noticeable going to Portugal last weekend that they are still big time on the masks everywhere, and then I realised it's Catholicism, isn't it. Deep-seated reverence of pointless symbols to keep the population under control, rather than allowing each to worship as he will.

At this point they are a complete waste of time, proven by Scotland's current stance on them coupled with their horrific infection rates, which are worse than England's (which are also higher than they've ever been).
One of the major frustrations during the pandemic was the almost complete inability for people to keep up with where the situation currently was and tailor the response accordingly. Seems old habits die hard.

I saw a masked cyclist the other day. They also had about 10 layers of clothes too many on and were having to push their bike up a moderate incline whilst looking on the brink of death. I often do wonder about the pollution thing, but then that leads you down dangerous rabbitholes.
Unless we're going all out against all respiratory viruses forever then keeping 'restrictions' in place for something which is almost literally a mild cold at this point [Omicron BA.2 or whatever it is called] seems a bit authoritarian.
Thankfully they're going to stop doling out the free tests soon, so once we work through the inevitable stockpiles that the lunatic daily testers will have no doubt amassed it should be plain sailing in terms of case numbers. We gave up reporting them daily ages ago and it was a fairly genius move.
I've noticed some irregular heart behaviour. I don't think it's anything that probably wasn't there during/immediately after first couple of bouts but it'd be pretty sweet if this thing has a cumulative effect on the heart that will have everyone flopping dead in the coming years.

Woke up feeling crappy so did a LFT…. I’ve got it for the second time. Mostly annoyed cos it’s my friends sons christening at the weekend and I was excited to see all ‘the lads’ and won’t get to now.
I don't think I've done an abnormally high number of tests over the past few years (less than 30 lfts) but I've definitely had what feels like the most variations. Few of the replies are good, too:
When a plumber came into my apartment to do a repair, I required him to wear a brand-new 3M N95 respirator, which I gladly provided. No problem. Afterwards, I wore a 3M N100 and ventless goggles, opened windows, and used a box fan to ventilate. After several hours, it was okay.
My instinct is that it's clever marketing for the many specific brands of item mentioned.

No idea what I was actually expecting but this negative test travel certificate business is £11 to some conman who's dishing out 1 LFT and an app that produces a QR code upon submission. Why/how on Earth is this any more credible than just accepting the free NHS app's record of a negative test? Seems that's a somewhat selective interpretation. They're still recommending (presumably) 4th jabs for vulnerable groups, and plan to restart in the autumn on a wider scale if necessary, which seems sensible. My kids have been offered jabs but it seems (even more) pointless for them to have them going into the summer so will probably hold off until later in the year.

I think suspended vaccination programme is a fairly apt description. It's not a programme, or at least not like it was, if you're only giving it to a select few.
That we're still trying to jab kids here is absolute lunacy.

I see no benefit to mine having the jab, so they won't be. Kids are basically at no risk and it doesn't stop them spreading it anyway. So why bother? Make a jab that actually stops transmission to a decent degree - and doesn't need boosting every hour on the hour - and we'll talk.
I never had, and don't want to get, my booster. For no other reason than I can't be arsed. Well, I actually had it booked at one point but cancelled as I caught it about two days before I was due to go for it.
But I'm going to Spain towards the end of June and unless they change their stance I'll have to have it at some point before I go. It seems if your regular second dose was over a certain amount of time ago they require it for entry. I might leave it last minute and hope they scrap the whole thing. But that's the only reason I'll be indulging any of this any further. I'm not "anti-vax" or anything I'm just very much past it and don't care anymore.

Will only do it if it becomes a travel related ballache, but it seems most countries aren't going down that route anymore.

“The good news is that the same things that previously worked will work against new variants.
“Wear a mask in indoor spaces. Meet outdoors rather than indoors if you can.
