Easter eggs. I'm sure they've gotten smaller/more expensive etc but that's to be expected, the awful thing about your modern egg is that you no longer get a bag of sweets/chocolates inside the egg they're made/baked into the actual shell of the egg itself. Fucking rubbish and the youth of today (ie my nephew) seem completely unaware of what a downgrade they've been subjected to.

The other bits being separate is an upgrade because you can save the egg.

People who don't indicate at roundabouts.

How can you forget the basics of your driving test that are so important to make people understand which way you intend to go?

Pure arrogance and ignorance.

Then they get angry with you when they're in the wrong. Finger up. Seething. Growling. So what I do now is I usually put my thumbs up to them and mouth 'Great driving'. No better way to win with eejits, as they don't know how to react to that :happycry:

niko_cee

Only really applies to little roundabouts, which are just dreadful things all round [wahey!]. Expecting people to indicate right on a big roundabout until switching to left when they want to get off is a bit auto.

You should be indicating on the big ones too. And indicating when changing lanes on the motorway. People who don't fuck me off.

niko_cee
12-04-2023, 09:03 PM
Are we talking just indicating for getting off [ok] or the full indicate at all stages job [as you are supposed to] on big roundabouts here? Also, is it really necessary when you have designated lanes for designated exits? Fair enough for motorway driving, but that's just a lost cause with everyone driving in the middle lane at 65mph.

Jimmy Floyd
12-04-2023, 09:27 PM
My roundabout seethe is reserved for people who do the following:

Two lanes approaching the roundabout, one to turn left and the other to go straight on/right. The left lane (for first exit) has a queue and the right lane doesn't: death to vehicles that want to go left, but take the right lane and go all the way round the roundabout to jump the queue.

Always vans and 4x4s, obvs.

Jimmy Floyd
12-04-2023, 09:29 PM
As for lane indicating, South America was a big eye opener for me. All cars are fitted with indicators but they simply don't use them and instead use the horn, as many times as they need to until a gap appears. It sort of works as its own chaotic highway code, albeit there are way more breaches of it.

Crap hand washing and drying facilities in public toilets.

If you have a separate hot tap, don't set the water temperature to hotter than the sun. If you don't have any hot water at all at least have a hand dryer that blows warm air. Dyson airblades and similar can foxtrot oscar as well, most advanced hand dryer but blows water up your sleeves? Good one.

And don't get me started on the all-in-one water/soap/dryer over the sinks. A trickle of water for a few seconds then soap suds and water getting blown about the place, it's fucking embarrasing.

Those all in ones are clearly a wind up by whoever makes/programs them.

How long should they wait for the soap to come out, sir?

Just long enough for them to think they have their hands in the wrong place and move them.

When capacity is limited something really needs to be done about pensioners trying to scan their weekly shop at the self-scan things in the supermarket [this is probably a local gripe as most UK supermarkets seem to have massive amounts of them and a mix of the scan as you go things and the scan yourself at the end ones].

Over here we need a bouncer to ID people and send them to the conventional checkouts if they're over 60.

Not sure if anyone has been following my PC repair adventures from the computer thread, but in short form, was chucked a borked PC to fix and sell. Managed to fix it after seeing the price on their site was £226 in credit. Took it to store for test yesterday, passed their test but due to having windows on it they quoted me £123 credit. The listing I viewed online was for Linux.

Got home and rechecked the price I'd seen and it was still the same, so I nabbed it for "drop and go." For that they hold the price for 3 days so you have time to either post it or go to your local store. Later the same night they fixed the price so it was only £54 voucher now.

Got back into store today with it in hand. Soon as manager guy saw the system(he was there yesterday too), he comes over and shoos the staffer away and explains to me the price I got was a misquote that I should not have seen and the actual price is £54. I said but in your email it directly states you guarantee the price for 3 days. He says flatly we will not be honouring that price here. Take it up with customer services.

It's still £54 I didnt have before for a thing that was collecting dust so at least that's something I guess.

I considered keeping it, but it wasn't exactly shit hot when it came out in 2013/14. Thing could barely run recent Linux versions.

See I know that the original price I "saved" was far too high for the machine it is, but dont guarantee it me if you don't intend to honour it.

The store is informed I'd be taking it in so someone could have got in touch to tell me not to bother. Especially as the manager of the store seemed to be expecting me and had his new price on hand ready to go.

A little while ago my wife and I went to view a new housing development nearby, the houses were nice but as per usual the pricing was so far above the existing houses in the area it would have been not worth us trading up on the property ladder to pay more than double the mortgage we have now and a smaller house in square footage terms.

My wife has a decent salary job, better than mine, and her boss has just been told they are getting one of the currently unbuilt new homes through the housing association list :moop: I thought these things were means tested?

They are, but they keep building new-builds in the middle of nowhere and the uptake among Social / Council tenants is quite low.

At my place we have waitinglists that would take 30 years in Brentwood and Romford, but we struggle to get applicants for the new builds in Maldon.

The problem remains infrastructure. People don't want to live 20 miles from their support network with no busses or trains and no doctors, shops, etc. near by.

The system is broken.

The reason being that the gov/councils love the easy cash from developers but hate spending it on infrastructure. Part of the problem is just pure lack of ambition and vision I think and the way that the upper reaches of the civil service operates.

You still have to qualify, but it's not purely down to finances. There must be some kind of vulnerability.

Also; if they have had trouble renting it to the people higher up the list then I would imagine it's an "affordable" tenancy, which is charged at 80% of private sector rent. That's probably more than a mortgage would cost you each month if you bought it.

Do you know if they're renting or doing "part ownership"? If it's the latter then just lol at them, it's the worst of both worlds. All the hassle of being an owner, with none of the freedom. Nightmare stuff.

Yeah, that and the short-termism of politics. Fixing it today would be an expensive pain in the arse and would probably only benefit whoever is in power 10 years down the road. So why bother? Just keep building on farmland and let the school 7 miles away in the next town build some "temporary" classrooms on the School Playing field. No need for a new school. Problem solved.

The whole housing situation in this country staggers belief if I am being honest it's mad. 550k net immigration last year(I'm not anti-immigration) but a lot of the problems come from the fact that we build absolutely fuck all to deal with this immigration then wonder why people get pissy when there are no services in this country.

These people should be made to go into private rental though and what beggars belief here is what the fuck have they been doing with that money they earn to not be in a position to perhaps have a deposit and buy their own place.

NHS dentistry basically no longer exists in Northern Ireland. Last I saw in the news it was 90% of dentists here were no longer taking NHS patients. Is it that bad in England?

Anyway, fine, whatever, I'll go private. I'm lucky enough I can afford it and probably claim back some of it through work. The thing that annoys me here is the number of fucking schemes all these dentists seem to have. They've all got different variations of pay X per month and get Y checkups and Z hygienist visits per year and a certain percentage off any necessary treatments. It's too much choice. I don't want to have to sit down and compile a fucking spreadsheet to see which one is best, I just want to get a couple of checkups a year and a reasonably priced filling if I need any.

On a related note, yesterday I went for an eye test and ordered some new glasses. The health insurance I get with work has dental and optical allowances but apparently the optical allowances don't include the eye tests, only the glasses? How the fuck are you meant to know if you need the glasses if you don't get the eye test?

We are headed down the road of the US with everything being privatised and having to wrestle with these insurance company fucks every time you want something minor and no wonder those lot over there are going fucking postal all the time.

This isn't really something that fucked me off, but it's probably just about the right thread to share this shit anecdote.

I will say first that I have done my fair share of absolutely bollocks customer facing jobs where you just wanna GTFO asap, and there's stuff that customers are entitled to do that still break your heart (someone coming in with a massive container of coins 20 mins before the bank shut is one that still haunts me), and I imagine it's exactly how people feel in Spoons when you go in and order a load of food 10 minutes before the kitchen shuts.

I've gone into the petrol station twice this week to grab milk and bread (the other day) and a few beers (tonight), both times a solid 30 minutes+ before they shut, and both times there's been this young woman mopping the floor. Last time, she gave me a proper dirty look when I walked over her handiwork to get to the bread and milk (literally the only way to access them), but I thought nah, I'm probably imagining it. You surely wouldn't start mopping the floor 30 minutes before you shut, and get annoyed when a customer comes in and has to walk over the floor?

Tonight she AUDIBLY TUTTED at me, and demanded that I walk to the till a certain way (down the aisle she hadn't mopped yet). I did go that way, but only cus I only wanted the beer. If I'd needed a massively overpriced bottle of brown sauce or something that was on the aisle she'd mopped, we'd have been at an impasse. Again, like I said, I understand the pain when customers scupper your chances to lock the doors and fuck off 2 minutes after you shut, but I feel like starting mopping the floor that long before you shut is a VERY high risk strategy.

honestly, solidarity forever and all that, but part of me thought about doing that. via some kinda stinky pond.

one thing that makes me retain any sympathy is that the owner is a known massive shithead employer - a friend of a friend was on shift when someone filled up their car then just drove off. cunt took the money out of his pay, which I'm sure is very illegal. not sure how matey on the till could do anything about that.

i'd be willing to bet they don't get paid after the shop shuts, but it's still a massively flawed strategy.

Sold a GPU on ebay, sent it special delivery. Buyer complaining tracking is wrong, Royal Mail somehow got it tracking the correct item and a previously delivered item qt the same time. No doubt the buyer will use this to claim his item never arrived and want their money back now.

Been arsefucked as predicted. Royal Mail said they would investigate, never updated tracking. Buyer got to the end their patience and asked for a refund, I paid their refund and then Royal Mail came back and said 'err we did deliver it, honest, so we will refund your postage but that's it.' £230 out of pocket as it stands :moop:

Going to pursue Royal Mail as it has been their fuck up since the start.

I've got some guy getting arsey with me because:
a) he only wants the chairs and I said I'd rather it all goes together as I imagine someone is less likely to take a table on its own.
b) I won't deliver the chairs to him (I don't have a car they'll fit in so I can't even if I wanted to), which is very unreasonable of me given he doesn't drive.

There's no late train back here so I got a hotel room for them. 3 days ago they "upgraded" the venue. Pain in the ass trying to move them to somewhere else, but not too far away from the new venue.

They've just messaged to say they've yet again "upgraded" but now it's all the way out by Old Trafford. I've just checked and that sold out pretty much instantly too. Do I bother trying to swap it all about again or are they going to give it yet another "upgrade"

Tiktok. It doesn’t really fuck me off, just boggles my mind. One of my wife’s mates sent her a video ‘songs that are 20 this year’ or words to that effect, and it had some Kerrang classics blasting out her phone. Except the video was some bloke sat in his bedroom filming himself switching between posing with rock hands, mouthing the lyrics out of sync or pointing at comments he’d added to the video. And seemingly people sit and watch this kind of thing? If it wasn’t an absolute chronic waste of time making that video (I’ll be honest I’d rather read a list of said songs or, even better, a quick medley with clips from each of the music videos), there are actually people who sit and watch someone… doing nothing? Have people really got that much spare time that they’re happy to waste hours of their week watching nonsense on their phones?

I hate people.

Tradespeople. Been through various builders/plumbers/cunts for various jobs through various channels. The hit-rate for being mugged off is eye-watering.

The latest episode is wanting someone to come move the washing machine from the kitchen into a former boiler cupboard.

This involves:

- Drill hole through back wall to enable electric socket in kitchen
- Drill 2 x holes in side wall to bathroom to run the waste and water supply to the washing machine
- Run new pipework from cold supply under the sink to cupboard
- Cut into sink waste (old school copper pipe) and fit pipework for washing machine and drain off

I got a couple of quotes, 1 guy said £400 after showing him some vids of the job. The other company said £100 call out-fee and then £99 per hour (likely to take around 2 hours after only being explained the job on the phone). I go with the latter, 2 geezers turn up for 5 mins, explain the above with regards to what the job involves and that it's going to need about half a day's work and they'll go away and give me a quote. Quote comes back for £780.

Thought I'd got away with just telling them to do one on the phone but they've just sent me an invoice for the £99+VAT call out.

Our bathroom renovation is getting quoted about £5-7K for labour. The labour won't need more than 1 man so I'm going to see if I can put that sum towards training myself up as a plumber instead. Fucking state of it all.

In actual reality all of the politicians were falling over themselves not to tell European migrants to fuck off, and ended up allowing twice as many who they thought lived here to settle. Cars, innit. Nothing new but since moving to the heart of the battleground where the symphony of chaos and conflict between motorists and cyclists surrounds me, it's apparent just how much of a sewage humanity finds itself in.

There's petitions, meetings, all sorts about ULEZ this, parking restrictions that, LTNs here, cycling lanes there. A load of gammons/Giggles' feel so strongly about their right to exhaust-fuck their useless combustion engines that it's kept the fucking Tories in place for a poor bunch of cunts today.

The irony is cycling in these parts is a quicker, more efficient mode too. And with e-bikes, it's not even physically demanding.

We must still be decades away from full pedestrianisation and cleaning up these hellhole cities but the fact there's serious waiting lists for cycling storage just shows how backwards we are.

The car is very much a left-right issue isn't it. The right enjoy freedom of the individual to move where and when he pleases. Weather conditions would be a big factor for winter and the likes but during these months, there really is absolutely no reason why car journeys couldn't be replaced by the likes of an e-bike for virtually every single journey. Neither can you create a new UK account and transfer/gift the accursed things as ROBLOX doesn't allow that, and any attempt to work around it is both a massive pain in the arse and also comes with a 30% tithe for the privilege. The cost of half term time holidays.

Kids haven't had a holiday for a couple years but now we're both working we were looking at even a 'cheap' Haven style one for next summer. It's pretty much 3x the cost of going during term time. In fact I'm sure it would still be considerably cheaper to take them out during term time and take the fines risk. Prices way higher than I thought they'd be.

I only used it to listen to wrestling podcasts in phonics' spare room before I fell asleep.

Worcester is a pretty weird place. Kinda beautiful and historic architecture, classy restaurants and nice pubs, interspersed with manky old bingo halls and shit.

A lot of blokes who really remind me of that viral photo of those lads stood outside Birmingham New Street. I've never seen/heard people loudly revving their stupid boy racer cars as frequently as I did there.

We get lucky because our kids school combines all Teachers Training / Inset days to give us an extra week off in October, but even then we tend to take them out of school for a couple of days at the end of term to go away.

If we had to take them out for a week at the end of term we would do that too. They only sit around playing games and watching DVD's for the last week of term anyway.

Probably the best thing about not having kids is the ability to go on holiday in the 'other' times.

Be glad you don’t work there. Even before kids I couldn’t go away in term time.
Since going to a 4 day week, it’s much better, we go Monday to Monday over half terms and it saves loads.

This town is desperately trying to be bigger than it is and have built loads of new housing estates on what was flood plains(that'll be lol down the line). They never bothered to upgrade the roads to go with it.

Early this year they've started works on 2 or 3 of the major roads, but today they kicked it into overdrive and have closed off more roads. They're basically closing off or fixing all of the major roads in the town at once. It's completely fucked the busses and traffic today was a nightmare. If there's ever an accident on our stretch of the M6 it will literally take hours to get from one side of town to the other.

Buses have tried to reroute as best as they can, but this has lead to the stop that takes me home from work being out of action. There isn't another one close either with how they've had to change it. Best part is they expect this work will 'only' last 9 months.

You've got to loosen up before. I can't sit still so end up active stretching in between sets without really thinking about it, then if I'm hurting after I'll do boring stretches.

Does your gym have a sauna? Could stretch in there for better results too.

Took the plunge on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro on "Amazon renewed." They have it labelled as "excellent condition" and Amazon promise "Amazon Renewed products will be clean and will have minimal to no signs of wear or visible cosmetic imperfections when held 30 centimeters away."

Turned up today, reasonably loose in the packaging with its charger and strap. Strap and charger are clearly 3rd party cheap as possible, but it is stated that is likely and is fair enough.
Screen on it is in great condition, however the outer shell of it is scratched to fuck and it's clear it hasn't been cleaned either. I'd be willing to bet it was scratched like that before it was sent, but I can't know 100% it didn't happen due to the poor packaging.

As it works like a marketplace, Amazon states I have to go through the seller first to give them chance to fix the issue themselves but I don't hold out a great deal of hope considering how they sent it out in the first place. But they're now closed til Monday, so I've essentially got a weekend to play with the thing anyway.
