A little football teaser......

Who am I?

I’ve never won the Premier League but 3 of my former clubs have.

I’ve been named in a PFA Team of the Year.

My current Premier League team paid almost £30m for me.

Teammates have included Danny Ings, Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Danny Wellbeck, Theo Walcott, Danny Drinkwater, Kurt Zouma, Harry Kane & Kieran Trippier.

Managers I’ve played under include Steve McClaren & Nigel Pearson.

Someone tell me what this is. It’s driving me mad

Durm also
Hόnemeier did score in English football, but for Brighton in the Championship. Schindler scored one PL goal, and Durm didn't score at all.

Billing has scored in the Prem, but he's Danish, not German. That question will come soon enough.

Correct, but has already been said.

I don't think Hόnemeier is who I thought he was.

Who plays for Norwich now, Moritz Leitner?
Leitner does play for them, but hasn't scored this season. There IS a German on the list who has scored for Norwich this season however.

Moritz Volz was it?
Loved Volz at Fulham. Also scored the 15,000th PL goal away at Chelsea around Christmas time.

Stoke centre back, Wollscheid?
No goals for Wollscheid in his Stoke spell.

Schneiderlin? EDIT: French. Grrrr.
I have a list for France ready to go, but it is full of spawny shitehawks from the 90s and 00s who'd pop over for a loan spell, scramble in a goal, and return to Caen or Sochaux to live out their days.

No goals for Freund in over 100 PL apps.

Stiepermann for Norwich?
Not the right Norwich German. 10 goals in the Championship but nothing in the Prem.

Tarnat
Hitzelsberger
Hitzlsperger has already been answered, but Tarnat is a new one and correct, 3 goals for City.

As a bit of help, the clubs that the remaining 7 Germans scored for:

4 - (Bolton Wanderers)
3 - (Manchester City)
2 - (Derby County)
1 - (Aston Villa)
1 - (Manchester City)
1 - (Arsenal)
1 - (Norwich City)

Boateng?

thommo
06-04-2020, 07:48 AM
Boateng?
Late replying to this, but no Boateng didn't manage a PL goal. Some final clues for the remaining 7:

4 - (Bolton Wanderers) - Scorer of a PL hat trick, had a spell on loan at Bolton in 2002 from Dortmund. German international who also played for Stuttgart.
3 - (Manchester City) - Attacking midfielder who spent the 94-95 season on loan at City. Was very famously tackled in an England-Germany game.
2 - (Derby County) - Defender who played for Derby between spells at Hamburg and Wolfsburg. Scored his PL goals against Leicester and Leeds.
1 - (Aston Villa) - Central midfielder who was with Villa for the start of the Premier League. Played sparingly and scored once against Newcastle, before moving to Hansa Rostock and more notably, Bayer Leverkusen.
1 - (Manchester City) - Obscure midfielder who had a very brief loan spell with City in 1994 from Dortmund. Played more frequently for Hertha in the 2. Bundesliga later in his career.
1 - (Arsenal) - Only made 6 league appearances in 2 seasons at Arsenal (1999-2001), but did manage to score against Newcastle (and also against Preston in the League Cup).
1 - (Norwich City) - Striker who scored for Norwich this season, but has since returned to the Bundesliga and his old club, where he has scored 4 in 8.

Seeing as how I like to obsess over one or two particularly obscure entries in these, I'd moved on from Porifirio to trying to think of 'the other flighty midget winger that played in the north' and you've simultaneously crushed me by getting in before me, and relieved me of the biggest obstacle to me working productively today.

I only got him via my weird ability to rattle off a selection of players from teams in certain eras, should even one of them come to mind. Hasselbaink, Batty, Sharpe (?), Speed, Strachan, Radebe, Ribeiro, Wallace. I have no idea if they were even all there at the same time but those names flowed off the fingertips for 97/98 Leeds.

It's because I obsessively used to look at team sheets/programme squad lists/CM squad lists as a nipper and they've all burned into my brain.

Isn't he Spanish? :henn0rz:

Thats what reminded me

I only got him via my weird ability to rattle off a selection of players from teams in certain eras, should even one of them come to mind. Hasselbaink, Batty, Sharpe (?), Speed, Strachan, Radebe, Ribeiro, Wallace. I have no idea if they were even all there at the same time but those names flowed off the fingertips for 97/98 Leeds.

It's because I obsessively used to look at team sheets/programme squad lists/CM squad lists as a nipper and they've all burned into my brain.

I was watching the Leeds 1997-1998 season review yesterday (isolation/wfh is making me run out of shit to watch on youtube) and Riberio scored in one of the early games. I really should have remembered him.

As my best mate of that time (now ex-communicated), was a Cov fan, I share the inflated view of the talent all of these lot had. The hope that would spill out of him whenever they brought in the likes of Aloisi has totally tainted my view of that era of Cov players, to the extent that I have no idea how they weren't comfortably making the top 6 throughout the late 90s.

Roland Lamah for Swansea. He's shit, but like Montero, Dyer and the various other fast wingers that seemed to clutter up the Liberty in those years, he had one game a season where we was devastating.

Also met Hadji and Chippo a few times as they were both (despite being married) carrying on with a lass I knew. Seemed alright.

Aloisi was an odd one, we signed him while he was scoring for fun for Portsmouth and then immediately just left him on the bench, we did the same when we bought Mo Konjic from Champions League-level Monaco. The Gordon Strachan era was mostly ridiculous with the odd bit of sublime.

The Southampton player was a striker who never played for the national team, but also spent time on loan with Manchester City and Coventry City (where he didn't actually play a game). Also scored a goal for Walsall in 2000-01.

Both correct, but Thomsen had already been said. Rieper scored 5 goals for West Ham. Some clues for the last 4:

5 - (Southampton) - Spent one season on loan from Barcelona at Southampton, in 94-95. Very injury prone and spent a lot of time on trial or on loan after leaving Barca, before settling in the US in the early 2000s.
3 - (Derby County) - Spent 4 years at Derby, making over 100 appearances, after moving from Silkeborg in 1996. Also spent time at Leicester and Wolves later in his career.
1 - (Ipswich Town) - Centre back who also played for West Brom, scored a number of goals for both clubs in the Championship too.
1 - (Blackburn Rovers) - Scored once for Blackburn, away at Chelsea. Was the most expensive player to be sold by a Danish club, when he moved for £2.5m from Odense to Blackburn. Scored 4 goals in one international game.
