19/26. I missed a couple of sitters.

Raoul Duke

I got 16. Couple of big ones that I couldn't place then obscure letters which was more "can you think of a player with that letter"

Boydy
24-08-2023, 09:13 PM
Managed 21 but I left it open all day and kept going back to it rather than doing it all in one go. Missed B, E, I, J and U.

Ian
24-08-2023, 09:39 PM
I got U but only because he was the only one I could think of for the letter who I remembered as a "handful a season" type rather than because I had any confidence it'd be right.

Still annoyed about E though.

Boydy
24-08-2023, 10:36 PM
I only had a very vague recollection of E. Annoyed I didn't get I and J, really should have.

E is definitely gettable. U can fuck right off.

15. I missed M and Z which should have been easy.

Saw a list of all time goalscorers from freekicks (only top ten, so don't know outside of that). Can you name them?

SincereTheRebel
11-09-2023, 08:23 AM
Messi
Juninho Pernambucano
Beckham
Dinho

wullie
11-09-2023, 08:25 AM
Koeman
Mihaijlovic

Pen
11-09-2023, 08:26 AM
All correct. Juninho obviously the top dog with 77. Also correction tonthe above, the list had two more so we're looking for 12 in total.

Edit: that was at Sincere, Wullie gets Koeman right.

Ward-Prowse. :henn0rz:

Who is better at free kicks Messi or James Ward-Prowse?
Ward-Prowse is more accurate than Messi

Over the past five seasons, he has scored directly from 21.7% of free kicks taken, compared to Messi's career conversion rate, which is lower. Ward-Prowse is also ranked among the top free-kick takers for shots on target.

He would be there if his name would be Wardolinho Prownaldo and play for a team that gets more freekicks. He's just a victim of too few opportunities. He has 17 in the Prem. Just one behind the current leader Beckham.

niko_cee
11-09-2023, 08:43 AM
Rivaldo?
Pierre Van Hooijdonk?
Andy Brehme?
Le Tissier?

I want to say Leicester had a good freekick taker in the 90s but I can't for the life of me think of a name [not Guppy or Izzet].

How far back do these stats go?

Max Power

Zico.

Pen
11-09-2023, 08:48 AM
They go all the way back it seems. There's one that's ungetable. I'll give a hint later on when he's the one missing as he's had a player with the same surname that I'm sure some will remember.

None of your guesses have enough for the top 12

Boydy
11-09-2023, 08:48 AM
It felt like Gary McAllister used to score quite a lot so I'll guess him.

Did Roberto Carlos ever score many? He must have taken hundreds.

Pen
11-09-2023, 09:05 AM
The last two are a bit tricky:

An Argentine: player spent his whole career in Argentina. While he never represented his country, to have scored more free-kicks than Maradona and Beckham, as well as the same amount as Ronaldinho, is some achievement. This was probably from early sixties to early eighties.

He had a robust Italian namesake playing for Juve at the heart of their defense around the Calciopoli era.

A Brazilian: Only European stint was 10 games for Ajaccio in 2004

The most successful player ever to play for Corinthians, he has scored 206 goals in 420 matches from 1994 to 2001. He has collected more trophies with Corinthians than any other player in their history, a total of 8 championships

Only four caps for Brazil in which he scored twice.

Pen
11-09-2023, 09:06 AM
I'll post the remaining two in an hour or so as I don't think the first one in particular is gettable.

thommo
11-09-2023, 09:15 AM
I'll just cover the bases from what I can remember about Juve at the time.

Birindelli
Chiellini
Cannavaro
Barzagli
Iuliano
Legrottaglie
Balzaretti

Pen
11-09-2023, 09:23 AM
Victor Legrottaglie is the ungettable Argentinian. 3rd overall in the list with 66. His namesake Nicola was the Juve clue, and a bargain in FM iirc.

Just the one Brazilian to go. I missed earlier that he has 5 games for Valencia in 1997 and to give some more info he also played in Japan and in Saudi Arabia.

Ben
11-09-2023, 09:37 AM
Marcelinho Carioca maybe? Unbelievable on a couple of old CM versions. Corinthians stalwart, could have had a spell at Valencia I guess.

Pen
11-09-2023, 09:46 AM
He is indeed the missing one. Was quite surprised that half of the players were Brazilian and even more so that aside from them and Argentina they covered 9/12.

Adramelch
11-09-2023, 10:03 AM
Latin Americans are traditionally more focused on the technical side of things, so it sort of makes sense to some extent I guess.

192 players have scored a hat-trick in the Premier League. Can you name each and every one?

Bonus points if you can specify the 4 players who have scored hat-tricks in losing situations, and the 6 players who have scored hat-tricks as a substitute.

They did indeed, it was a 6-1 win. Multiple hat-tricks in the same game has only happened on 4 occasions - this aforementioned game, Haaland and Foden for City v United last season, Ayoze Perez and Vardy for Leicester in their 9-0 win at Southampton and one other instance.

He was awful for Fulham. Injured completely for the relegation run-in and he managed just 151 minutes with no goals. I was privileged enough to be in attendance at all 3 of his Fulham appearances.

Oh, fuck off. That game is probably the low point of my entire life as a football fan.

It was one of the Moore kids. Luke I think.
:D

It was indeed Luke Moore.

Additionally, the 4 players who have scored hat-tricks in a losing cause are Matt Le Tissier (twice), Dwight Yorke, Dion Dublin and Roque Santa Cruz.

The 6 players who have scored hat-tricks as a substitute are Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Son Heung-Min, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Emmanuel Adebayor, Rob Earnshaw and Steven Naismith.

Mali - Kanoutι
Ivory Coast - probably K.Tourι
Cameroon - probably Alex Song, though Lauren or BAE Systems might be close
Costa Rica - Wanchope
Ecuador - Tony Valencia
Peru - Nobby Solano

Nigeria's a bit of a head-scratcher. Mikel/Ndidi candidates perhaps. When did Efan Ekoku retire?

To open I'm throwing in Cech, Son, Tim Howard, Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Javier Hernandez.
Was surprised to see Hernandez only made 158 PL appearances.

Schwarzer is the only non-Brit to reach 500 PL apps.

England still up for grabs, so that's Barry.
The outright record holder with 653 PL appearances.

Nigeria probably the Yak actually.

Tunisia - Radhi Jaidi
Panama - never repped
For some reason I thought Jaidi spent several years in the Prem, but he only made 61 appearances.
