Tah finally done. I'll finish the SBC for it tomorrow. FUTBIN reckons about 25-28k of coin to get that. It took 19 games with the final win taking the longest. I was 1 goal up in 3 successive games and lost the lead late in all of them.

As such I've moved Reus back on for a few thousand more than when I bought him. Werner though has almost halved in value from when I got him, so it offsets. It'll leave me with about 200k in the bank and a few decisions to make.

I'll be bringing in Sanchez at the back and almost certainly Walker too, but up further up there is a decision to make. I'm giving Fabinho and Fernandinho a go as the CMs but I could then bring Firmino back to the CAM spot. There's also the likes of Eriksen and Lukaku that would fall into about my price range for what I'd have left.

Alternatively I could sell Salah and use Mahrez for a weekend or two. I could bring in Van Dijk and Eriksen for what I'd have. Or I could look at bringing in a lethal finisher like Aguero. That loan Aubameyang may not be a bad shout either.

He's incredibly productive, and consistent.He won't dominate anyone - he's just not that player, but he can put away tough opponents in ways others can't and often wins me tight 1-0 battles. I'd say he's one of the less influential but most irreplaceable, if that makes sense? Mind you, worth noting that I've been using him heavily since his YPOTY card in FIFA 17, and his IF, SIF and TOTS were at RF for me most of last year. I cannot envisage a team without him, whilst I'm constantly thinking of who might replace Talisca, who by contrast is probably my absolute favourite and most influential all round player, because I know Mbappe will keep hurting people, whilst Anderson drops a little each weekend as teams muscle up in defence.

If the gameplay is good he's a delight. He does get pushed off the ball a little easy for my liking though. Sometimes you get a pen for it, but mostly no. I'd give him an 8/10.

Biggest cons are that he's weak and his weak foot is unreliable. However his left foot is a dream and his finesse shots seem to just glide into the top corner effortlessly. I'm not one for cutting inside and looking to the timed finesse shot from the D, but if I did I reckon he'd be even better.

Never have I faced someone employing more shithouse tactics than this arse. Full pressing wanker, taking two players to my backline every time I had a goal kick, throw ins instant ball back to him, the works.

It was impossible not to cede possession to him, hence the number of shots I faced, but after weathering the storm Aubameyang popped up at the far post to hammer home a header in the dying minutes of extra time.

That Sancho card looks to be able to be done for about 70k from scratch. He does have low composure and mid-to-late 70's in every shooting stat though. He looks a very interesting proposition with a sniper card on him.

Also incase you didn't know there are 2 chemistry styles that will increase the composure stat, albeit by only 5. They are Sniper and Guardian.

I'll be on to get that Tah card shortly. He's a 91 rated CB with Anchor on him and we already know Leverkusen have reached the knock out stages, so he's due another upgrade. Hopefully that puts in a little work on his stamina.

Rejigged the lineup though, Reus is so much better as a striker than CAM. I'd been playing with Lewandowski on his own up front and now with Reus in a 4-1-2-1-2 I actually have the option of playing a through ball.

Considering that's going to be anything from 86 up to 90 rated, I don't think that's too shabby. He looks like a carbon copy of Jerome Boateng too. If the Bundesliga gets a good RB it'd be tempting to make a team.

I have Salah and enjoy him but I am thinking of upgrading to Hazard. I would be playing him as striker (LF on 7 chem) alongside Lukaku.

If you're using him as a striker I'm not sure Hazard would be an upgrade on Salah. The latter is stronger and a much better finisher. If you have the coins switch to 4321 and get both in as LF and RF either side of Lukaku.

Adding onto this two Kanes (93.5k each) and one Mendy (47.75k) sold. Assuming I sell the other Mendy for the same price I will have made 245k from those investments.

Playing them as a striker is a bit of a waste. They're not quite physical enough to be right up against the centre backs. You'll find Salah is the more reliable finisher on his left foot.
Hazard however has a 4* weak foot and is a much better passer and dribbler. You want these guys facing towards the goal with the ball at all times. I view Hazard as the perfect CAM. If you could I'd concoct something with him switching to a CAM in game, with someone like Salah on the right and bring in a left winger, like Sane or Mane, playing behind someone big and strong(John mentions Lukaku who is perfect)

I've also made a start on FUT Champs. Again it's a 5-0 start. Though it has been harder this time with one extra time appearance. Game 5 saw me come up against the best team I've seen yet.

His Makelele and Kante combo was frustrating as all hell. Combine that with Courtois in god mode it was tough. What swung it was bringing on regular Depay for Willian. He scored 2 and set up Aubameyang for the 3rd and killer goal to take it 3-1.

Speaking of Aubameyang. He has played 5 games. He's scored 12(twelve) and set up a further 3. If this form carries on I've tough choices to make.

I’m 14-9, not a great weekend by recent standards, and struggling against deep or gegenpress defending. I’ve also missed 6 pens scattered throughout those defeats, whilst winning 2 matches on pens. Go figure. I also fucked myself by twice accidentally playing with my B team used for fitness in Div Rivals. Not pleasant games.

Also just spent my 300k on SBC investments (for Black Friday, despite the likely situation that I’ll likely struggle to do many of them whilst on holiday), and on Telles for my next weekend league in a fortnight or so, with Immobile, Skriniar, Matuidi and Handanovic also joining my B Team alongside the UCL Live Milinkovic Savic and Douglas Costa that I had ready to go with Alex Sandro dropping down providing Telles works out.

My B team has really struggled in Div Rivals of late, particularly Saul in midfield and Scream Koke at LW (great CM super sub mind), and I wanted a more Hulk-esque striker in place of Gabriel Jesus, so hopefully this sorts it.

If he continues banging the goals in like he is, I'd love to do the Aubameyang one, but it's stuck at 560k on xbox for most of the time it has been out. Salah has lost 30k overnight too. I guess it mainly depends how I finish on the weekend. I don't have much time to play until Sunday night really and given my struggles on that day, it could mean anything.

Aiming to leave myself between 15-20 games for Sunday night. If I can hit Gold 1, it could make Aubameyang manageable without having to pull anything, but I don't want to be sat frantically panicking on Friday needing 1 final part of the SBC with no coins left.

Nepenthez has been saying it’s his toughest weekend league and seems to be echoed in Reddit and here. No idea why that might be, maybe the novelty of weekend league qualification being easier this year has worn off for the noobs I was battering in previous weekends (17-5 and 17-6 respectively). Maybe it’s that they’ve caught up tactically and are employing either 0 pressure or 100, both being very effective.

Either way, reflects my experience. Will finish off my games tomorrow and take Gold 2 again I should think, but had hoped for an Elite 3 run since I had Monday off and therefore plenty of time Sunday night to make sure I get all 30 games. Still an outside bet of Gold 1, broth room for one defeat, but I doubt it.

13-2 through my first 15 matches. If I could take penalties it'd just be the one loss. I'd say 15 games in FUT Champs is enough to judge the players though. There's a couple of weak areas in the team.

Bailly is starting to get exposed. As is Fernandinho. Both are decent options on a budget, but the latter is quite slow and isn't strong either. I also wouldn't mind upgrading Willian to a more lethal finisher.

That's the choice facing me. His nationality makes him very hard to hybrid. I hate EPL sides myself, but unfortunately I'm getting close to that stage where the top players from other leagues are the only way to improve it drastically.

If I do his SBC I'm locked into having an EPL team for the next several weeks or months. That's if rewards are kind and I can afford him.

I am not a big moaner and understand that things can go wrong but it's the lack of communication that has got me here. When they base the entire game on FUT and specifically the 'weekend league' they must know that people plan their weekends around completing the 30 games. They haven't even acknowledged the problem and it has been over 3 hours now.

I'm not really arsed about getting Silver 1 for the rewards, but I would like the 2,000 qualification points, so I hope it stays down for as long as it takes for them to just give me those as I'd really rather not play the remaining games.

Which is the problem they have, because while that suits me, it doesn't suit people like Sincere.

This isn't to excuse them as I think they're a scummy, scummy company, who've released a bad game this year. Watching Nepenthez's live streams really hammer this home - the amount of goals he scores from timed finesses and concedes due to tackles not working is laughable.

This is the frustration. There are a couple of decent community managers at EA, but it feels like the loop between them and the product owners is a lot more frictionful. It's not quite as community friendly as when the one in FIFA 17 was rife. That one saw the guy winning still get the win, but can you imagine getting to the 120th minute and being just about to win to have it done to you?

As for Nepenthez discussion on the previous page, I believe he is his own problem. He is obviously a very good player. I mean my skill rating of 18xx is nothing on his 2200 or so, but he seems to almost get locked into just trying the De Bruyne finesse shots, even though his normal dribbling at people playstyle seems to do the job on most occasions.

Game 3. Lost 3-2 in ET with 10 men. Very even game no real complaints apart from Gabriel Jesus is stupid good.

You’re right, but I’d extrapolate that out to the broader ‘engaged’ community. Those who spend time on the visa and forums tend to be obsessed by wins and rewards - I am, in fairness. That’s ok, to a degree. I think what’s damaging is when people let that entirely dominate their play style. For me, it’s a positive, forcing me to sometimes switch up my style and cross the ball a bit (ugh) or use long lobbed through balls (ugh), but for others (about 50%+ in my experience) it involves exploiting broken mechanics and high percentage play, like the top of the box finesse or la croquetta-ing all the way to the box, etc

There’s been much discussion on EA and Reddit around this, with lots of ‘EA force me to play this way to win’ from the apologists.

POTM Aubameyang is now down 50k to just under 510k. I've currently got 90k to hand. If I play my remaining 15 games I imagine I'll get the 4 wins needed for Gold 2 plus earning that Tah on Friday will probably net me Rank 1 in Rivals. That'll be 45k with another 65k on top. Selling Salah on top would only take me then to about 380k, so unless I get something in my packs it's looking unlikely that I'm going to be able to do the SBC.

The only thing to be careful of with those CL/EL cards is that, even if their team reaches say the quarter-final, you aren't seeing the upgrade until March. Considering the SBC landscape, FUTMAS and TOTY, not even including players getting TOTW/POTM items, there's a lot of chance for something better to come out in the meantime.

I mean if you like him, do it. But you'll only be getting 1 upgrade out of it between now and February at a maximum.

Yeh it’s not as great as it seems at first. Otherwise I might’ve sold Ramos, taking Fernandez for a little over a third of the price, but it’ll be April by the time he catches up.

Nonetheless, for those I’ve picked up I’m fairly happy. Mikhi was already someone I had in mind as a possible CAM for some time and is a very decent super sub for Talisca, who only lasts 65 mins of any given match. Milinkovic Savic already has a decent enough upgrade to justify inclusion and I loved loanee Telles early on so I felt the need to buy up a +2 version that’s guaranteed to go up another +3, particularly as 84+ full backs tend to be useable right through to TOTS as there’s so few of them with desirable skill sets and linking. Most leagues and nations have no more than one option.

After sealing 17 wins from 27 on Saturday, I played out my three remaining WL games today for shits n giggles and the off chance I'd hit Gold 1. Lost 2-1 in the first with Hulk squandering 4 one on one's and the guy scoring a couple of long range finesses with POTM Hazard as usual, whilst having nothing else about him, so that was annoying. Moreso that then I brought in my new B Team for the next couple of games to try them out and won both comfortably.

Milinkovic Savic isn't quite the Anderson Talisca powerhouse at CAM I hoped for - he needs pace and agility upgrades - but I'm hoping once he reaches 87 it'll be a little bit more of a boost and he'll get there. He did score and assist in the two WL games, so it's a start. Immobile feels good - I'd love to try his IF but it's far too expensive for a B Team card for me. Definitely good value at 20k though. Matuidi is another who needs an IF to boost his shooting stats, mainly positioning and finishing, but he's not far off being as good as the previous years versions I loved. It feels like a nicely balanced outfit, which will sit pretty in Rivals for at least a couple of months whilst I continue to throw my coins at my FUT Champs side.

Just did my first and second drafts of the year.

First has me complaining (year on year, this one) yet again about players with guests being matched up against single players in draft. Does my head in, out first round as a result (also my formation was awful)

Second, I drew a relatively average draft, but found the 442 with 2 CDM's I was playing with to be great for movement, Ndidi to be a beast and Bobby Moore magnificent behind him and managed to win the whole shebang.

Needless to say, shitty packs from the first, but a nice range in the win - Premium Gold Players, Mega Pack and Rare Gold Pack, or so I thought.

I think it's partly the no of games, but also majorly that there's the 400 Div Rivals points at the end. That's equivalent to somewhere between a narrow win and a draw, so of course people will hang on. It's annoying, but I do myself, though there's rarely more than a couple of games any given weekend I'm completely out of at the end.

I do really like that aspect of it. Gives a real incentive not to rage quit. Learn to battle back in games. I quite often concede first these days so learning that I'd say is the key to my decent starts.

What a night of FIFA that has been. I'd truly call that a marathon session.

I'll start with Aubameyang. What an amazing card that is. Every bounce bump and deflection goes his way. I had 5 games left with him from my previous update. Unfortunately for his stats, I went 1-0 up in 4 of those 5 games and the opponent quit. The last one was a loss on penalties. His final stats are spoilered below.

He left the team with me 17-3. That quickly became 20-4. Then from here it felt like the opponents kicked up a notch. The next game saw me come up against the worst rager I've ever met. He had a super team but I just about hung on in there. About 80 minutes in he invited me to a party and started spamming me with messages to distract me. I joined and could hear him through my monitor talking about how I was nowhere near his level and the usual insults. He scored in extra time to go 4-3 up and then started passing about the back talking shit as he did. Until he fucked up and played a Gerrard to Henry style backpass that gifted me the goal to take it to penalties. He even had a penalty to win it and had Ronaldo on it. He missed and then I won straight away in sudden death. I ran off and dabbed. This sent him into a 15 minute long raging rant at me(I know because I went off for a mini-break at this point and when I came back he was still going).

From 21-4 I went to 21-6, with 2 extra time losses. I also matched up against MattHDGamer as one of those. I tried my best but his Prime R9 was just too good. I'll look out for his video if he posts one with me in.
The next game was a rage quit win. Putting me 22-6 and needing 1 win from 2 to grab Elite for the first time. The first game was a blowout. This guy was supreme at keeping the ball. I was chasing shadows all game.
Came down to the last game and it was a constant pressure very attacking guy. I went 2-0 up quickly and thought he would quit. But a kick-off goal got him right back in it. From there it was end to end all game until Salah popped up just in time to restore the cushion and that's how it ended.

23-7. First time ever in Elite and I'm delighted. Hopefully it's a good TOTW as I'll be getting 70k, a 100k pack but more importantly a TOTW pack with 3 random players. This will discard for a minimum of 30k but then I also get a choice of 3 red players, with 5 to chose from.

The best part here is I was only outclassed in 2 of those losses. The other had I believe 4 penalty shootout losses and one to MattHDGamer in extra time. All of my losses were also to teams that contained at least 1 Icon.
Another note is that it became significantly harder for me to score once Aubameyang was gone.

They've introduced things this year to widen the skill gap. I like it, but doing that and removing any casual game mode has ruined it for a fair section of their audience.

I enjoy it myself, unless you get that gameplay that feels like everything is moving through treacle.

As for that patch, I don't think the AI defending will be nerfed too much, but the other two could be game changers. I've already found some success picking gegenpressing wankers off late in games thanks to well timed subs abusing their now shite stamina. This should further help.

The tackling mechanic is my biggest bug bear with it. The amount of goals I've lost through tackling but not actually getting the ball cleanly is astounding. I can't wait for it.

I got Mkhitaryan, Javi Martinez, Danilo Pereira and a ton of other players, so all in all, well worth it. I didn't realise one of the packs gave you 24 gold players (7 rare). Never seen that pack before.

Sane, Smolov, Golovin, Dembele and Mariano are all under 15k. Pretty sound invesment for anyone with some coin they dont need. Looking back to last year Theo Hernandez was a cheap as chips OTW. Spending most of his time in the mid teens. For the SBC they released (and Ronaldo is one this year dont forget!) he spiked to 40. Its a 2 month hold on cards but it should be worth it.

Agree with Merse on that. 4 tokens feels fair for Guilavogui who is very usable, but grinding for a month to get Pedro just doesn't feel worth it when Gotze/Juanfran were released straight over SBC.

Started to do the Sancho SBC (I've been playing with a Bundesliga side) and managed to eke out enough chaff to do 1/3 of it - luckily pulled Alba who goes for 50k-ish, so am up to 175k now after Marcelo went. Nothing like any of you rich swine, but not bad.

Two observations:

1) There aren't that many good Bundesliga players - it's basically Bayern + Reus (who isn't that good as his stamina is bobbins). So I might sack off this team, cash in and switch to the Premier League. At least there's a range of players there.

2) The Sancho SBC is ridiculous. It really isn't worth spending all that cash just to get an 84-rated winger, surely?

I think next month they may ramp them up. Last month the best was a 86's (iirc), this month is the 87. I think we might see closer to 90, probably 89, with TOTY coming out.

My wild theory, and I could be way off here, is that I think we will see the big leagues before xmas with players added later who are even better. Thats why they are repeatable. Ligue 1 and Serie A got massive screwed if this is the end game.

They've really toned down effectiveness of SBCs this year in terms of value and pack reward. What isn't helping is throwing a new one out every damn day. I'd rather have one good one a week than that.

Take the French SBC for example. In 17, you got a meta Lacazette card that was great for the length of the game because it was a significant bump. This year you're getting Depay. Whilst good, he already has TOTW card that is just -1 every stat and is 200k coins cheaper. It's tradeable too, so the only reason to do the full SBC is the packs, but they're all toned down and there's only about 3 good ones.

Originally thought he’d just be a Div Rivals A teamer, freeing up Sandro for my B team with but with Sandro back in the FUT Champs side at the weekend, but now I think he’s worked his way into the Fut Champs side too. With that card certain to hit 87 he’s an end game left back until at least TOTS. His dribbling and passing is a real asset for me as I like to draw people in with the full back and then pass inside.

Rewards opened and I actually do feel rewarded this time. Winning that final game has paid off.

Player pick 1 - Batshuayi
Player pick 2 - Wijnaldum
Player pick 3 - Mahrez

The importance of the extra pick at the end there. It's always a bit meh when you don't see the mega names and I was fearing the worst heading into the last pick, but that Mahrez is a brilliant pull.
I then opened the 100k pack and pulled Mahrez out yet again. He's sold for 185k. I'm not messing about with that. Nothing else in there but money has already been made.
Then came the TOTW pack. I just needed to see a walkout and boy did I get one. Out trots Sane to keep the good times going. Other 2 TOTW items were Orban and Collins.

I felt the luck rolling so took tradeable Rivals rewards after. I did pull Collins TOTW again as well as Dele Alli, but I'd probably have been better taking the coins.

In total, packing that red Mahrez allows be to sell both Salah and the tradeable Mahrez I got. About 370k there to add to the 150k I already had. Wijnaldum goes straight into the team with Mahrez to replace Fernandinho and Salah.

I've not yet sold Sane as I'm really tempted to use him, but I know there's going to be shedloads more of him about with black friday packs and promos. He is another 250k though.
In total I've taken in over 600k from that one weekend whilst also adding Mahrez to my RW spot and replacing a CM I was unsure about bringing in Wijnaldum.

The question here is what to do with it. Positions of need are possibly in goal, but definitely CB and a Striker. Wouldn't mind bringing in an upgrade on Willian on the left either.

I had Salah over Mahrez and Fernandinho over Wijnaldum, whilst having POTM Auba on loan for the first 20. I'm not sure I'll miss Salah too much as when I checked he only had about 35 goals in 80 games.

Everything has sold and I now have 800k or so to spend. The 3 areas to upgrade are obvious, but it's what do I do with it?

A few days ago I was talking about scraping together everything I had to maybe just afford POTM Aubameyang. I never thought I'd be sat here with enough to do him and more. The question here is do I do him and essentially strap myself down to an EPL team for the forseeable. Or I could go and buy 4 big game players that could come in and have the advantage of being able to be sold on in future.

I have to leave for work just after midday tomorrow so I don't have long to choose.

Things I did:

Got a head start with the early access trial and did it again with the glitch, so had 20 hours in total. During that time I maxed all the coin I could earn from games (squad battles, division rivals, coin boosts etc) and then reinvested all of it. I was getting players for dirt cheap and had a load of major league players and 83+'s that I made huge coin from. Probably a few hundred thousand as the SBC's they were needed for dropped. Made a couple of mistakes here admittedly, in that I bought too many 83's who've barely moved in price at all and bought too many cards that had obscure nationalities. Essentially if you're sticking to the major league's home nations, you can't really go wrong.

Bronze pack method - Explained previously, but you may have seen me selling all of the Aussie players I had in last night's stream (which netted 30k). As long as you're prepared to sit on the cards that have no value when you pack them it's a goldmine - I had half a dozen Lincoln players that were going for 10k each as well, for example.

SBC's - Always do the ones that are value. I've ripped through everything I deemed as value in all the league SBC's and used the chemistry glitch to do all of the advanced ones early on.

Buy low sell high - Sounds ludicrous, but essentially if you're applying the "major league's home nations" buying rule when there's no need to buy them then these players can be picked up for discard and will be worth something eventually.

What I didn't do that I wish I had is invest in consumables more and actually monitor the value of desireable players throughout the week, which as Danny highlighted is a major win. The other major mistake was not clearing my trade pile and buying 100 German Bundesliga IFs when the Sancho SBC went down. I could have made 2m coins. I'm also not familiar enough with the market yet to know what a 'good' price is for many of the higher rated gold cards cards and IFs are.

There might be other things that I'm missing, but essentially that's it.

It's tricky with these, in that given the players have increased in price you'll generate far more coins from selling players than you're likely to generate from opening the packs, but on the other hand, opening packs is fun and I didn't pay as much for the players I'll be using as they're worth now.
