Was using the flat 4-3-3, no custom tactics yet.

I swapped to a 4-3-3(4) and swapped out Can for Gomez in the CAM position. It seems to have improved things slightly. Still have the same problem though, a clean sight of goal is hard to come by.

Next 3 games, a 2-0 loss having conceded 2 in the first 5 mins to finesse shots, couldn't be fucked carrying on. Then a 1-0 loss having had control of the whole game. He scored in the 77th. Then a 1-0 win having again dominated.

Switched again to 4-4-2 and something clicked. Suddenly scored 4 in a game, then 3 then 5. 3 wins on the bounce and I'm not Rank 3 of Div 4. Apparently this will net me 32k should I stay there(I'm assuming the scores needed are dynamic).

Rank 2 would get that up to 50k, but I'm not sure I can push to that one this week.

I'm not the most clinical either, but one thing that helped me loads was tightening up my defence. I watched a video by that Nepenthes(?) guy Yev posted and he was saying you should never switch players to your centrebacks. I've been just selecting a midfield player and using them to cut off passing angles and leaving the AI to control my defenders for the most part. Seems to help out a bit, you just have to keep in mind that they can score finesse shots if you back off them too much.

Invested another 50k in high rated players like three Zlatans for less than 5k each, and have now got 14+ players for every La Liga squad apart from Real Madrid. 1300 in the club in all now, 97 on the list and I’m well invested for the next Marquee Matchups and UCL matchups. Have 30k left over and 13-8 in FUT Champs so should finish Gold 2 or Gold 1, whilst Rivals should again be top tier in D5 so I’m expecting to be on 200k by next weekend and able to start building towards a single team by December once I have 150+ games worth of squad and player fitness cards.

EA seem hell bent on making that mode as dull as is humanly possible. Post the update it improved a bit as players seemed to make more runs, but it's worse than ever now. I've got another 3-4 games to secure Elite 1 (which I'm only so close to this week because I wasn't sure what the threshold would be to get the Futswap player) and that's it for 40 or so games of that wank a week. I'll play the games against the bilge teams and enough to get me to Elite 3, but that'll be that.

Given it's a self contained mode, with rewards that are the same overall no matter how many points the average is, I've got no idea what they're playing at.

Mainly just by having made sure I’ve got 5+ players for every UCL team with a decent rating, but also then more heavily investing in some of the bigger teams playing ‘big’ matches next game day.

16-8 now. I’m at a bit of a crossroads. I’d like to stop at 17 securing Gold 2 and enjoy the evening, but it’s tempting to push for 4-2 from my remaining games to secure gold 1. Seems the monthly rewards are now gone and the difference from Gold 2 to Gold 1 isn’t that stark so may just quit on the next win.

The 400 DR points per Weekend League game is annoying. Hardly any cunt is rage quitting as you’re still being rewarded for seeing out a loss so getting the games in is taking longer than in previous years.

Basically play the dullest football possible for the first 70 minutes, keeping things compact and hitting them on the counter. If you're playing simple passes you won't give up much and unless the opponent is actually good at the shithouse tactics they employ you should create something in that time.

After 70 I bring some fresh legs on for when their players do start to tire for the last 10 minutes, at which point you have loads of space to exploit and you can run riot.

Last two games I played I won 2-1 against a super team (doing exactly the above) and then drew the last one 1-1, nearly winning it in the last minute but the ball was scrambled off the line.

What has complicated things somewhat is the introduction of hard interceptions (or whatever it is) which is frustrating, because at best you get a free kick, which are useless and leave you horribly exposed at the back.

Try getting used to holding RB and moving about. With your better dribblers you can get yourself in and out of a pinch with that. Fake shots are also a great way of turning suddenly.

If I've done the maths right, you'd get 12,000 Division Rivals points just for your 30 WL games. That'd have me in Rank 2 as it stands now without playing a single game through the week.
For me that'd be a bonus 50,000 coins for almost free. If you were to play squad battles through the week, then WL, you'd be getting 3 sets of rewards.

Totally agree. I never made top 100 after all the games of squad battles but i was well into elite 1. Hit 90k multiple times. Online for me in division rivals (div 5) is really fun.

Lost a couple of very irritating games simply through having the worse team. One was a 4-3 that I dragged from 3-0 to 3-3, then lost on a counter at the end. The next was even more annoying. 2-0 up and El Sha and Zaza spooned 3 or 4 chances at the 3rd. He made a change to go for it and got it back to 2-2, then I perfectly slide block a cross he had right at the end, only for Hazard to fall over my man and get him a penalty.

Single match vs CPU and turn all sliders to low, switch sides and make them ultra defensive and practice your skill moves in your own half. Used it to perfect la croquetta, as well as setting the match to 20 mins each way.

More recently I’ve also done it in squad battles on lowest difficulty as the cpu doesn’t even challenge. Score 5 goals in 5 in game minutes as well and walk away with 650 odd SB points.

Finished the night on 821k and still have Kroos, IFs, OTW's and loads of 83s to 85s in the club and another 39k to come on Thursday morning.

Only played two games, both online, winning the first 4-1 and losing the second 2-0. The latter was a deserved loss, albeit I was annoyed not to score one, but the pressing was something else. In a 3-5-2, he was swamping me everywhere and it was impossible to play out at times.

I think I've got an idea of what I want the d-pad tactics to be now, I just need to write them all down and map them out. One will be to leave a striker forward at all times when facing that shit. Teams doing it definitely tire after 70 minutes as it's happening in every game I play against these arse holes, but you have to still be in the game to have a chance and I need an outlet to take the pressure off. I'll be sacrificing some defensive solidity, but if I can switch it on the fly then that might just work.

Reached 1,029 Fut Champs points now, so over halfway there, which is nice. No hateful Squad Battles games played either tonight and I've enjoyed my time on the game much more as a result.

Oh and a note for some players in the side. Fahrmann becomes the first player in the club to reach 200 games and Dembele is looking likely to be first to make 100 goals, sitting as top scorer at the moment with 91 from 175 games. Both OTW Promes (77 in 130) and IF Ben Yedder (80 in 114) have better strike rates, but Ousmane should still get there first.

I find Legendary to be completely hit and miss. Some games are enjoyable, with the AI feeling smooth and tough to play against but offering space and chances throughout, and then I'll play a game against a 75 rated side with 60 chem and just get blown away and be 3 down in 20 minutes.

I need to really put SB to one side and focus more on the online side of things.

Most of my games are following this script. I have 55-60% of the ball, usually stuck just outside the edge of their box with it, passing it about pointlessly hoping for a gap. Finally get chance to shoot and it gets blocked or my player scuffs it. They then counter me and either smash one in from outside the box or race past to the byline for the cutback.

Nah I hear you. Space is hard to come by, lately if I take a step and just try and rip a high powered finesse shot I've found I can sometimes beat the defender that way when used to I'd never score that way.

Pretty happy with that. Obvious upgrades are Lewandowski and Alaba but I'm not sure they really make sense for the price.

Howedes is actually decent despite having -1 pace. Never loses 50/50s with wingers.

Ive heard good things about that formation five time. I havent used it as the central areas looks really weak but i hear it is really good. All you players are always in straight lines to pass.

Yeah I struggled finding a formation I liked. This is probably a bit weaker defensively but you have enough numbers in midfield to keep the ball well and there always seems to be someone in space.

I'd recommend getting CAMs with a bit of pace as they end up drifting wide and swapping with your wingers a lot of the time.

I havent tried any of the high rarted goalkeepers but playing against them. They come flying out of goal in proper sweeper keeper fashion which is good. Holding triangle to bring out your keeper isn't that clean on this one. They are slow to react and when they get to the ball, half the time they dont even react as the ball goes passed them.

After taking the advice I didn't spunk on a goalkeeper. Instead bringing in Sterling and Mkhitaryan. The latter addition seemed to help me a lot in the final 3rd. Big improvement over Wijnaldum who was a very square peg in a round hole. Sterling is also very fun, especially on the counter.

How do you get around the issue when your transfer list is full and you have players sat unassigned which you cannot send to club because they are duplicates and therefore you cannot open any new packs?

I currently have 100 players on my transfer list (all investments which I plan to sell when their prices rise) but I have now just spent 30 minutes sniping Kasper Schmeichels for 1.6K, I have picked up 20 of him but as my transfer list is full I have to leave him unassigned which means I am unable to open any new packs.

Is there a way around this or is it just the way it is?

It's the way it is and it's your choice as to what you do.

I can't be arsed with the unassigned rigmarole so generally I keep 50 players on the transfer list as investments and leave the other 50 as space for general trading.

I found the WL surprisingly OK. I went 14-11 in my first attempt last weekend and the good thing about it is you get 400 rival points for each game played so it's win-win.

I am in Division 5 with a current skill rating of 1424. My record is 63-23-54 and I have been in Division 5 from day one.

This makes me feel a hell of a lot better. I'm also now in Division 5 having dropped down in my rut last week. My skill rating bops between 1500 and 1400 too. Record is 25-6-26.

I feel like my play is a bit predictable in the more defensive 4-2-3-1, but I don't have the players to play the way I want to yet. So it'll do.

I've just earned 1900 points, so even without playing again I can enter next week. I've also noticed there's an option to view previous weeks rankings in DR.

It was on Xbox, 26k points to get into Rank 1. 18k for Rank 2. With me being on 13k right now I'm not sure how much I'll play on. I'm not sure if me being in a higher division then affects anything, but I'm not completely sure I'll play the full amount to hit Rank 1.

Team wise not much has changed, although if I sell Martial now I can afford Son. I can also afford Sanchez for defence. I still haven't tried Jesus either.

Basic. 10s across board almost. Courtois and Lloris are end game for me with it as their key stats are all 95+

Everyone starts with Basic, though you can actually apply it as well as there are basic Chen styles in packs.

So I have watched you for all of 5 mins but I would say there is one simple move you can get into your game that would help you. The dragback turn. I find it creates so much space when I use it. You dont just have to go backwards with it either. Just point the stick in whatever direction you want to exit after you drag back.
