After the seethe of getting Maddison wore off, I had to. I can't be denied what is basically a TOTS card for my favourite player. In the SBCs tonight I've completely gutted the club, including a lot of high rated special cards. I figured I was never using them again so why not? It cut the cost of Firmino down to about 200k. I got a Falcao back in my packs and that was it for even boards.
I did however discover a TOTW Rafa sat on my trade pile and the cheapest on market is 30k, so I take that as some interest if he sells. This leaves me on about 1.45m

As you can see, certain areas need some love. The most irritating thing about getting Maddison earlier is that quite literally any other of the EPL TOTS would have improved an area of my team.

My areas of concern are the full backs, my LCDM and LW. That Rice card looks like he would do well as CDM, but I'm not sure I've the time to get him now.

My main headache is RB. I can quite easily fix my LB by upgrading Robertson, or I could try to get Digne who would save a great cost(anyone used him by the way?). However there is still not one bloody right back that will link into Ramos. Now I could drop him, but it's TOTY Ramos. I'd also then have the added cost of having to buy another CB.

The real problem of course is potentially spending all of this on defenders when there's lots of nice new godly looking attacking players out there. If I stick with Rijkaard for now I can have whoever in at LW I want. Now that Ribery sure looks very good, but only has 14 hours or so left, so if I get him it'd have to be in the morning.

I'm 3/5 so far and it's a bit maddening. I'm basically just playing my 86 Robertson at LW.

It also didn't help that I'm about 3 weeks cold on this. I can see and feel myself making mistakes real time and it's irritating. Still I don't think that's bad progress with tomorrow and Friday morning still to get him.

I will say that even with playing weird, it is very noticable that other teams have upgraded and mine hasn't in a while.

As for the new ones in. Maddison plays well for what he is, however he's trade in bait. TOTS Rice plays well and I can see why John says he'd play him further back. I'm a bit risky with playing the ball out so having a more nimble guy there helps. However the defensive side he's very good. I didn't notice Rijkaard to be missing at all.

Lastly Firmino. He is extremely good and you should do him. If on the fence, go get his loan and try him. He plays like his real self in that he often will drift into open pockets of space and without the ball he will drop back and nab it off a stalling defender/midfielder.
Now I'm finding him better as a striker than a CAM. That's quite annoying as it would mean having to find a CAM. It would also give me a pretty useless Raul, which would be a shame.

All of a sudden I've got myself 6 TOTS this week (including Rice), and I'm 4/5 on the Digne objective. If I have time tonight I will put together a Saudi league side to go for Gomis. Considering I've got 3 TOTS players, and the rest are fairly cheap, I could put together a lethal side. Tawamba in particular looks cracking.

The Digne objective has been weird. I've won my last 3 with Valencia assists to suddenly boost me up, but the first 2 hours of attempting were a fucking drag. I also used the flashback Firmino loan throughout. First 5 or 6 games, I was prepared to call him a complete bust, he felt really average. The last 4 games of the loan, I can see what the hype is about - his dribbling is so close and he can finish from anywhere.

Unfortunately I have to get the last win without him or the Valencia as the loan games have run out.

Digne is done. I had 4 games to start with where I got the win, or assist in, but not both at once. One gutting one had me 1-0 up with the correct assist for 70 mins, only to concede an equaliser in the 93rd minute.

After that I got the desired results back-to-back. Firmino still feels amazing and Raul feels worse for him being in the team. I've also redeemed my WL entry, but I feel my team may not survive the weekend without the necessary upgrades.

Managed to somehow squeeze in games last night to finish off Digne, and completely do Gomis.

Didn't get online till about half 11, and got Digne done within 2 games. I had 5 TOTS players in my Saudi side, and things started well, winning 3 of my first 4 matches. I was bringing on Flashback Dani Alves to play as CAM and it was working remarkably well. Then I don't know what happened, whether the opponents got better or I got tired, but I lost 3 or 4 in a row, and it was almost 3am. Forced myself to keep playing to get it done (which isn't always the best choice), but managed to win the next 2, Dani Alves starring with a couple of crackers. TOTS Petros deserves a mention too, he is great fun to use.

Feel like a mug today in work though, I am utterly shattered from doing it all.

Liquidated Fut B'day Griezmann(P 280 G 115 A 79) to be replaced by Mane, for 795k (sniped for 819k during the promo, so was good value) and TOTT Lloris for 101k to be replaced by Ederson. It means Mbappe being on 7 chem, Ederson too, but the former will be replaced either by a TOTS or his TOTY card (I think the latter if it falls off a bit) soon and is still much better as a 7 chem 91 than his 10 chem 89 is, whilst the latter is still 99's across the GK attributes without the full chem.

Puts me on 3.25m with a pretty full club.

I'm currently lining up like this in game. Only Ramos is off chemistry.

Annoyingly I never actually did Mane POTM and that's his loan. I forwent the 400k it was as I believed his TOTS would be 800k or so. I did not forsee just how good that card would be though.
I will say that Raul is now a square peg in a round hole, but the full back situation needs sorting first. Digne is okay and a little better than my 86 Robertson, but he is kind of a jack of all trades, master of none.

I don't really want to be spending the most/all of my budget on full backs though.

I've got 3.15m and lot's of players, and ideally bring in Da Costa at RB, VvD at CB, which would drop Varane to 8 chem but I don't think there'll be apparent difference, and upgrade Mbappe and Cavani to their TOTS & TOTY versions. All depends on what those prices look like. I enjoy Desailly enough to make the VvD my lowest priority.

Tempted to bring in TOTY Mbappe now actually, as his LW card has risen to just under 1 mil.

I really really hate you for having that Mane. He's slightly out of my price range. Really enjoying his POTM card. How's Ederson compared to say a standard De Gea?

I've not yet made and buys and I've somehow slogged it to a 5-0 start. It's like a fog is being lifted with each game played. Game 4 was the hardest. I was 2-0 up and cruising when the AI tacked for me and gave a penalty away.

Ramos was sent off despite me being adamant that's a fantastic tackle. Luckily I saved the penalty and held out until the 91st minute before conceding. I then made the dirtbag move of not kicking off until the game forced me. It wasted about 40 in game seconds and got rid of any chance of my opponent getting the ball back.

If you need to waste more time you can also bring on subs at that point and each time you do it'll reset the counter that forces you to kick off.

Gray Fox Mane is decent, though I've just realised 13 games in (now 9-4 after a slump vs consecutive 4-1-2-1-2 narrow bastards) that I've had him and Mbappe set to Cut Inside as opposed to Free Roam which most suited my wider striker preference, and that's probably why Mane is only on 4 goals.

Ederson is incredible. The pace and distribution are exactly what I've been after all year, as he confidently side steps pressing attackers and pings 60 yard lob through balls :drool:

First defeat after 6 games. The first one I felt VVD let me down. The opponent was a cut passing lane kind of guy on press after possession loss. At 2-2 in the 89th minute Ballack broke up an attack of his and I laid it back to VVD. I saw he was pressing and had cut off the easy ball back to Ballack, so I tried a through ball through a gap out to the full back. It would have been a massively pressure relieving pass, however instead of using his instep to send it into the space I wanted, he tried to bend it the other way with the outside of his foot. It went straight at my opponents player. He played one pass, but VVD was there to cover it, yet Kluivert sort of ran into him and hit the Neymar dive. Penalty and loss.

The other game was truly odd. My opponent was a drop back player looking to get it down the wing and cross to Bale/Zlatan on the other side. It felt like the entire game was me battering on his door at 2-1 looking to kill it off, but I just couldn't score. Cut to the 80th minute and I had the ball with my 2 CDMs passing between each other. The opponent just refused to press. I turned and booted it back to De Gea and still the same. I kept the ball right til full time and he never came off drop back, even when losing.

In any case, I think I've seen enough to know what I need. Upgrading Da Costa is needed, even if it's just buying his TOTS card. I also need speed in the midfield, on and off the ball. Bringing in Bernardo Silva for CAM and looking at Wijnaldum to be a ball playing CDM who is quite a bit faster than Rice/Rijkaard too. I also wouldn't mind buying 90 Mane, but the 3 cards I've just mentioned is already my budget gone.

I'm holding out for 6. We're likely getting a guaranteed Portuguese TOTS SBC and likely a big Flashback. Either Neuer or Boateng(more likely) is my guess.

Manes loan has come to an end and playing only RAM/RW he finished with 15 goals and 9 assists in his 20 games.

I've actually been recommended a 4-4-2, which I'm trying out now. It's really fun but leads to proper FIFA scorelines. My last 3 games have seen a rage quit 5 mins in after I took the lead. A 7-4 defeat and just an 8-2 win. Mental stuff. I don't even have the right players to play it properly yet, but it shows some promise.

After my last update I went and bought TOTS Wijnaldum for my CM role in the 4-4-2 and he seems perfect. I've now moved to 11-2.

After checking up it seems there may be worth to playing beyond 14 wins.

Silver 1 guarantees 1 pick from 3 of either of the current TOTS sets.
Gold 3 gets you 2 picks from 3 of either of the current TOTS sets.
Gold 2 and Gold 1 both guarantee 2 picks from 4 cards, however at least 1 card in either set will be guaranteed from the more significant TOTS in packs.

You could still get 3 from the Portuguese league and 1 Bundesliga card in both packs, but you at least get that chance.

It looks like 17 wins is the sweet spot for time spent. However those extra 100k packs could be a goldmine.

At 16-5 I was 4-0 up in a game and then started to show cracks. I kept letting the guy open fire from the D. Most of the time I blocked it but then he scored 3 of them in relatively quick succession. I got rage messages after goal 3. Then on the 83rd minute with me breaking through my game did the spinning wheel of death and I magically lost connection to the servers.

Finished 20-9, so gave away a free win (whilst holding on for the DR points) with my reserves and bench making up the 13 chem first 11 that took to the pitch under the squad name (FreeWinGotmyWs). Scored an OG, sat back and rubber banded the controller. The twat twice paused then proceeded to score 5 goals before eventually stopping playing vs my AI.

Oh, and I finished off Socrates (had already done the first 4 squads) in time to use him for the last 10 games in place of Cavani. He's fucking brilliant as a centre forward - anything around the D or in the area ends up banged into the top corner with the 5* WF and his passing and dribbling adds a playmaking aspect where Cavani could only really hold it up. He, along with realising the error in my player instructions and correcting it, ended up helping Mane and Mbappe into the game. Mane is bloody brilliant, he's so lithe and strong, and I'm now getting used to finishing on his right (he refuses the use the 4* WF when wide left, which is admittedly, annoying). Mbappe has also upped his productivity so I've no concerns on him dropping chem now. Still tempted to trade him in for his TOTY now though, given Socrates has proven an upgrade on Cavani.

VvD is indeed perfect for me, which is why I’m still keen to get him back in place of Desailly - the 50 odd games I had with his base card were great. Once I sort the Mbappe conundrum he’s the one that I want to partner to Varane, albeit doing it on chem is the quandary of quandaries for me with Mbabu relying on chem from 2 Icons.

Also Interceptions is the most important defensive stat for a mile for me.

Looking closer at that Goretzka, he seems quite a bit better than Ballack just without the better workrate.

He's actually very comparable to Matthaus' 94 card for near 2m less. He's not as good at shooting but stands toe-to-toe with him in every other aspect and also has a significant height advantage.

The question then becomes what to do with Rijkaard and Ballack? The former has almost certainly been replaced in my team now as Wijnaldum is brilliant. I suppose the most sense comes with putting him/them into an Icon sbc to grab a 100k pack back. It does seem a bit of a waste reducing what was 2m coin worth of player down to that, but I don't see much in the way of other options.

I'm hoping the Bundesliga TOTS SBC is 85 or less + TOTS card to complete. In all likelihood we're getting Kampl, but given how often I saw the two keepers chucked out last week too, there's some scope for a good pull. Even if you don't plan on using either of them, that 95 rating will push the cost of any SBC way down.

Only played two games (SB's at that) but I'm really liking the new players.

Lacazette - The obvious thing he's missing over Rashford is the 5* skills, however I never really took advantage of them with Rashford and the only one I really used was the flick up. The only other glaring thing that Rashford has over the Frenchman is the height (6'1 compared to 5'9), however, Lacazette has 99 jumping and Rashford only has 82 (with chems) so it seems to balance it out a bit more. Lacazette though has a bit more about him in every other department.

Bernardo Silva - I wasn't planning on getting him but decided to place him in the side over 93 KDB when I got him as a red. He doesn't seem like he's going to get masses of goals/assists from midfield but he seems to link everything so well. His chipped through balls are immaculate, I think if he had 4* skills he'd be a top tier player.

Goretzka - He's impressed me the most, he's so much better than Pogba defensively and he's also got the height that Pogba has which seems to have a real impact in midfield this year. He's also just as good if not better than Pogba going forward and I've already scored a heap of goals with him. Again, if his skills were at 4* I think he'd be an insane option and a much cheaper version of Gullit.

In any case I've used that 4-4-2 a fair bit now and I'd say it's great fun so I'll share.

Player instructions:

RB/LB - Stay back while attacking
Both CMs - Cover centre, stay back while attacking
LM/RM - Come back on defence, stay wide
Both STs - Come back on defence

It looks a little odd, but there's sense in it. If your opponent is a slow player, your team will essentially recover into a 4-6-0 yet when you spring the counter that turns into almost a 4-2-4.

I've found this counters 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-2-1-2 quite hard. This is mainly due to your advantage over the isolated full backs they have. If your RM has the ball for example, he now has a potential through ball between full back and LCB, either inside or out. He also has his RCM and RB he can lay the ball too in relative freedom.

What you ideally want here is to be committing your opponent into moving his players to track you or close you down. Essentially should your CM break through their midfield line, you're looking at their defence having 4 players to mark and one guy approaching with the ball. There's also nice spacing between players and decent enough movement to pull some around the corner passes that break your opponent open.

The risk to this formation is in transition. If your opponent is fast counter player, he can get through you before you have time to set. This is why player types and certain stats are important.

For your strikers, you want high/high work rates if possible, but more so you want fast and agile players. Someone like Griezmann is a perfect template(think complete forward on FM). I've been using Firmino and Werner here and it has worked well. If your opponent is drawn out to you and you can put a quick turn in and send the ball back the other way to a guy wide open, you're doing it right. There is no get in behind set here as when facing the drop back menace you will want your players coming short rather than sitting on the back shoulder covered by 4 players.

For your LM/RM you want similar to the above. Someone like Hazard could do well as would an Mbappe. However you not only want good finishing from them, you need some physical presence for if they come back to make tackles. So the latter is probably better. A good cross on them also goes a long way. Many current TOTS options will work well here.
Just 2 things to keep in mind, firstly weak foot is very important. I've been using Sterling on one side and he gets a fair few chances on his left foot. He's not all too reliable with it. The other thing is work rates, look out for high/low because you'll suffer defensively.

CM is the most important dynamic here I think. You essentially want one attacking and one defending. I use TOTS Wijnaldum and Ballack. I find what happens most of the time here is Gini will push on and make runs, whilst Ballack will slot into a CDM position sitting back. Though when Ballack does go forward, Gini does the same thing himself.
You will need one defensive minded CM here. Vieira, Kante, Fernandinho and Allan are good examples of this. His partner should be a more nimble and attacking minded player. Agility, dribbling and passing here is key. Good shooting is an added bonus and if you can find high/high workrates even better. Players like Gini will do but plump for better options if you have the coin. TOTY Modric is the template.

As you've also probably wondered, stamina is vital to the success of this due to your team likely being in transition a fair bit. 90+ is needed but due to TOTS being here that's not a massive issue.

Defenders almost speak for themselves, however you want some who are lighter of foot if possible(Militao, Ramos etc). The ability to change direction fast to cover a counter is crucial. Defend with your two STs tracking back wherever possible.

Overall I like it. It's not perfect, but fun. I've found against opponents I'm better than, I've had no problems with losing a game I should have won. Against superior opponents to yourself you may well opt for more defensive strategies. But I'm glad I tried it. I've enjoyed it even with having Raul and Sterling on the wings who need replacing. I still have 84 Da Costa and TOTS Digne as my full backs too.

It's been a little while since I've posted progress so here's an update:

- Ended up spending Friday evening sleeping, Saturday evening quite busy, and Sunday out in Cardiff so I cocked up my Weekend League. Went 5-4, no player picks and only 500 points for re-redemption this week. Bit gutted as some of these Bundesliga TOTS players have looked insane.

- During those 9 games, I noticed some serious problems at the back for me. I conceded 3 or more in my opening 7 games, but also managed to score 3 or more. I'm tempted to change some instructions around to stop myself from getting caught on the counter so often, but I'm worried that might nullify some of my attacking threat.

- Guaranteed Liga NOS SBC got me the bloody Greek GK, of course. Managed to get 93 Demirbay from the Bundesliga guarantee, not too shabby. He's going straight into a squad I've been working on.

- I've also been chipping away throughout at league SBCs, managed to complete the Prem, the Saudi League, and I'm just 2 segments from finishing off Serie A, Bundesliga again and La Liga again. From some of the pack rewards I've managed to get 2 x Kroos, 2 x IF 86 De Paul, TOTS Seferovic, MOTM Stocker, the Venezuelan hero card from Liga NOS and 20 silvers worth 10k or more that have saved me a hell of a lot.

I'll post the squads I've been using/working on up once I'm home. Need to work on the Hazard and Brahimi objectives too now, Eggestein is already done and dusted.

Oh, I also built TOTS Tah on Friday. First impressions are very fucking good.

Finally finished Hazard last night. Listened to Sincere's advice and just played without forcing Belgian assists, and managed to finish it up within an hour. Still loving Meunier in CDM, so much so that I'm tempted to shoehorn him into my main squads.

Didn't bother trying for Brahimi as I didn't fancy another very late Thursday night. I really want to get a full 30 games done this weekend, aiming for 17 wins or more for some good packs and picks.

Objectives shoul be like "Just play 60 games this week" or "score x amount of goals from online gameplay. The objectives latelty have been kind to me as Ive had players in my starting 11 who I was already using.

The most fun card ive used this FIFA is TOTY Bernardo Silva and ive played 40 games with him. He is so good. I play him as a RAM on a free role. As soon as I get the ball with him, my first instinct is to take someone on using L1 dribbling. You cant get the ball from him.

What league is coming today. Hopfully its Serie A as I want that TOTY Cancelo. I can see him being 500k+

Yeah I screwed myself over by forcing it. The issue I have is during the week I have a limited time to play unless I'm willing to go deep into the night and fuck my sleep pattern over, and so I'm always pushed for time to complete the weekly objectives. I wanted to get Hazard done Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest to at least give me a chance to get Brahimi also.

Ligue 1 and Eredivisie would be a nice combo of TOTS today.

Objective cards are again quite meh.

I picked up TOTY Marcelo, but just don't quite have the pennies for Da Costa too. Hoping a few things can sell to push me over the line. I'm just playing this WL for fun. There's only 4 or 5 cards in the TOTS that would drastically change my team and the odds of getting them as a red are slim.

This has kind of officially retired Rijkaard from my team now, with Raul relegated to the bench. I should probably turn them into 100k packs, however there's not too many Icons that make sense at this point.
The top ones are 2m+ with me having already done one with R10. Probably only Best and Vieira that are left make sense to me and even then I'd likely not get to complete them.

5-1 start. Everything was going swimmingly up until that last game. I came up against a possession player and so chances were hard to come by. I held him at 1-1 though for a long time. Then 2 errors in quick succession lost me it. First I won the ball in midfield and had a 4 on 4. I used a sprint first touch accidentally just as he selected a defender to charge me. The sprint touch sent the ball too far ahead and he nicked it.
He got to the edge of my box and I pressed B to get VVD to tackle. He did the one where they lunge around the ball in order to shield it as they win it. But he missed the player who was now left with a free shot. He took it and hit the post. Of course it fell right back to the same player for the tap in.

I've come up against the Militao and Telles combo 2 times in those 6 games and they are a right bastard to break down.

I also submitted Rijkaard in and got a single 84 in the 100k pack back. Savage. I should probably go and actually finish R10 but I have 1.8m left of it and I have about 1.1 in coins with the ability to maybe chalk off an 88/89 squad with in-club items. That'd knock a near 400k off further.

All positive for me.

Also positive is that the likes of I’mADuckQuack and Doc Poplov have been picked up by EA not as gamechangers but as Content and Gampelay producers respectively. This game needs fans, real players, and certainly those two have a good eye. Whether they succeed in the job by having the skills required is a different matter, but EA certainly have, for me, been making the right moves and noises this year to bring Fifa back to where we’d all like to see it.

Best way to try and figure it out is to push the shoot button a second time as the foot or head contacts the ball. It was a piece of piss before they patched it and now requires a bit better timing.

I'm up to 9-1 and very happy so far. I only need to go 8-12 from my remaining games to hit target. Mostly pretty easy games. Though the last one was tough. It was pretty much like playing Nepenthez. Flick up crosses and volleys with the odd El Tornado thrown in, was all my opponent wanted to do. The sad part is he had TOTY Mbappe, Eusebio, Ronaldo and Neymar in his team.

I want to try a new striker. I did want the TOTY Canelo but I think I may cut him off now and Ronaldo for something a bit different.

The current team right now. If I sell Ronaldo, Hazard and Cancelo. I can free up an additional 1.5m which will give me in total 2.5m for a new front line.

Should I sell TOTY VVD and bring in Champions league VVD who is 300k cheaper? I'm thinking about bringing in Fernandinho for the CDM spot or some other strong CDM to partner Vieira. Lacazette TOTY looks good for the other wide RAM slot. I play a 4231 in game with Bernardo Silva at RAM.

My players control was all over the place (3 times the ball was right at them so they adjusted their position and randomly stuck their leg out to poke the ball away), every 50/50 was going to him, loose balls were always bouncing to him etc etc.

Really annoying because I could tell I was much better than him but it always felt that the game was trying to fuck me over.

I'm selling TOTY Marcelo back on. I just don't feel the 800k worth of full back is what I need. If he ever sells it'll take me back to 1.1m. I can fully sort out the defence, or I can go and grab a star forward or Icon.
I can do Best now guaranteed. I already submitted the Icon into him and FUTBIN has him at 1.4m, down to 1.1m with what I've done. The other option is see how far I can get on Ronaldinho.
He's 1.95m on FUTBIN, minus the Icon I've submitted is 1.65m. I have enough special cards to tick off the 89 rated squad too, so I'd be close on getting it all done.

Another horrible game to take me to 11-6.

Went 2-0 after 20 minutes and all of a sudden it became really laggy especially when I was near his box (I WONDER WHY?!?!?!?) and he managed to pull it back to 2-2. I then took the lead again but huge lag Bernardo slide his player in the box even though the keeper had the ball in his hands for a few seconds. Luckily Varane scored at a corner and I just played safe form there.

I don't think lag switching or any variant of it wouldn't affect you in WL. Only in Rivans/Online single matches where it's the two of you connecting to each other.

I've moved up from 9-1 to 13-3. Breaking now to eat but 4 wins to go. Of the 6 games I've played 5 have gone to extra time and none of those to penalties. I've just won my last one against another Nepenthez clone. He had Bale on one wing and flashback Torres on the other. His plan was simply to get down the wing and float it to the back post. He's 6"2 and has 99 in jumping, heading, finishing and strength. The game went 3-1 to him. Then quickly back to 3-3, then up to 4-4. Finally got super sub Rashford through on goal in the 121st minute.

Most enjoyable win was a guy who had a name of '96 was not enough.' Got 3-0 up in 15 mins and he quit. I shushed and dabbed that twat after every goal.

When releasing code into production at the velocity Fifa does this is going to happen, and what’s important is what they do - rectifying when appropriate, a la Sancho etc. It’ll just be tapping the wrong set of ref data or something. You can’t QA this stuff to the N’th degree when it’s live, ongoing content (though obviously they likely tighten controls after each little cock up).

I think the 'toxicity' (what a shit word that THE COMMUNITY have gone in on) would be lessened a lot if they were just more open about shit. Hiring some decent community managers would also help a lot.

Currently at 14-7 which is the first time I've pushed to 14 wins and it's nice that it only took me 4 extra games to get there.

Not going to play anymore as I don't see the point unless I can get to 23 wins which would mean not losing a game.

Eriksen, Bernardo, Eusebio and Lacazette were brilliant going forward. Goretzka was a little quiet going forward but he was putting a lot of effort in defensively. I've also decided that it might be time for Keane to move on and I think I'm going to try to do Vieira before next weekend.
