Trying out 451 as well after a poor run this morning, struggling to find space against deep defences and compromising myself when moving the full backs up by going attacking.

2 games, 5 goals, 2 wins. It also means fitting in IF Hulk, and pushing Anderson up alongside him as well as giving Firmino a go. All three look good. To complete the two squads for next weekend I’ll need another 250k or so as at the moment I’m making do with NIF Felipe Anderson in both sides, when I’d prefer his IF in one and Sane in the other, though also entertaining the notion of selling up a whole bunch of players and going balls deep for Hazard.

One complaint is the CAMs switching with the wingers so much. But shit, that.

The plan was to do so as I did in FIFA18 and loved it. Scored a fuckload of goals with Florenzi and Bale overlapping, which is why I went for Meunier and Guerrero. Sadly, if I do that I get absolutely molested online and touched up in Squad Battles, so I've told them to stay back. It's not as fun, but I win so much more.

Those last two games were like wading through treacle. I don't know exactly how many Squad Battles games I can cope with in a week against this turgid engine, but I think it was about 5 too many this week (which is much better than previous). Still Elite 2 is done, so that'll be 5 packs to open in the morning and 1 million coins hit if that random Belgian league IF sells.

Just had my late push for Elite 3 in Squad Battles halted with 2 dreadful losses.

Game 1 - Struggle to break down a very good team, albeit with awful chemistry. Pull back to 1-1 with a late header, then proceed to hit the post twice in extra time. Get an early advantage in the shoot-out, but then have 3 penalties saved.

Game 2 - Know that I need to win my remaining games well to get into Elite 3, but come up against a real god squad playing 4-2-4. Nothing I do makes a lick of difference, and I'm 2-0 down by half time. 3 minutes into the second half, my De Vrij is sent off for an innocuous challenge 40 yards out, the resulting free kick is volleyed in from the edge of the box. I decide to cut my losses and forfeit.

Next week I have to make sure I'm not so invested in Squad Battles, I've had to take a short break to alleviate my annoyance.

Squad battles this year seems less worth it. The prizes seem to have taken a fair knock down and there's no legendary "trick" this year either.

I think I've slowly "got" it now. However my finishing still needs work. I seem to be in control of 7/8 of 10 games, however I just can't cut out those counter attack goals. The big annoyance is that I'm not leaving open space in behind, nor am I allowing people into the box easily, rather they counter to just about the edge of the D and then unleash one into the top corner.

SB is dead too me now. Unless there is a tactic to beat legendary consistently. Im done grinding it out. I can get to gold 3 with only a handful of games.

They'll calm down a little after the hype, but they will stay reasonably expensive so long as the cards/rewards are desirable.

If anything, Ligue 1 got more expensive the past couple of years as Silvers with the likes of Toulouse became more rare. I paid 50k to complete some shite teams for the Laca card in 17.

Prem, Serie A and La Liga die down as there’s very few silvers. It’s the silvers that ramp it up.

I’ve got EPL almost done, with just a few Citeh and Man U high rated players to go, and for La Liga I just need a Busquets (sold mine for 85k yesterday) and a few of the Madrid players to reach 85 rated (Kroos, Courtois and Benzema).

Unelsss they have changed things. The players are still there. You just have to sell players as they only show 50 players. I dont know if the have changed it in FIFA 19 but you can still do the unassgined trick so it sounds unlikely they would have changed things. Dates back to the first couple of FUTs when cards tracked the apps/goals/assists across all owners. So, if you wanted to easily track productivity you’d pay up to 20% extra for a clean card.

Now it shows both that and the stats specific to your club so the difference isn’t as much as that anymore as it’s only Autistic geezers going after them.

Add a player that is rare to a concept squad so you can quick check player prices daily. For example UCL Kompany goes for about 70k. Becuase he is rare, sometimes you can get him for less than 65k.

I would buy a few IF arnatovic. He is 62k which is cheap for the actual card. The card is worth 70k+ once TOTW is finished tomorrow.

I swapped Willian out for Mahrez last night and I enjoy the latter more. Especially when he plays as a CAM. Some more solid wins getting my skill rating to 1650 now. Then came the most irritating game I've played.
Guy runs up the wing with Mbappe and swings crosses in over and over. This scores him 2 goals eventually. After this he clearly switches up to ultra defensive. Try as I might I can't find any space near his goal for a clear shot. All he does is hoof it over the top looking for Mbappe.
I finally get a penalty midway through the 2nd half. Send the keeper the wrong way, but the ball hits the post and bobbles right back into Mkhitaryans(the taker) path. However he's stuck in an animation of disappointment of missing the penalty. No matter how I try I can't auto switch to him. The ball literally at his feet 6 yards out. His keeper gets up, runs over and picks the ball up.
After that I hit the post twice and have a sweaty cutback somehow miracle saved by his keeper. From about the 80th minute, any time he gets the ball its straight to the corner flag.

If the ball went straight into the post without the keeper touching it, which based on your description it did, that’s the games way of making sure you can’t touch it again and cause an indirect free kick

I will say it's a bit of a disappointing TOTW. Maybe 5 players from it worth looking at. The TOTW items seem barely an improvement this year too. Just a standard +1 in most things.
Positive is that I bought my Mahrez for 24k and he's already up to 30k.

I've sold Jesus on because I ended up putting him in at CAM/LW and he wasn't really noticeably better than Mkhitaryan. 90k in the bank now. I'm still 3k above the Rank 1 cut off(it seems to raise about 3.5k per day in Div 5) and so should have that 50odd thousand coming my way. A few more games tonight to secure Rank 1 and I'll have 150k to either build a new team, more if I sell further items on, or 150k to add to what I have.

One thing I've noticed in this FIFA is that high rated players really feel 'worth it'. After upgrading my team it's very noticeably easier to control games.

A couple of games back when I was playing previously it felt like a few random 80-83 rated players were the actual best players in the game and the numbers on the cards didn't matter.

I'm sure it's the former. My wireless connection is a nightmare connecting to it. I'll get random bouts of the screen freezing for 5 seconds, then speeds right back up for 5 seconds. It's a nightmare if I or my opponent are near the goal because I just become a spectator.

I’ve moved to 433(3)I think - the one with 2 CM and a CAM and Talisca dominates game in, game out for one of my sides - far more than Firminio and to the extent that I’m considering moving to one side with him as the star man within the next fortnight. I’d consider Douglas Costa and IF Hulk as well. The latter is just stunning as a striker with Hawk. Brilliantly rounded.

Pulled Matuidi from the MM's and decided to use the 200k+ I've received today to build the final one team squad and buy up some fitness cards. I'm at the stage where were I to continue with fitness squads then upgrading both teams is necessary, but it's also fast becoming a false economy. So, I've upgraded in goal by bringing back Courtois for a few grand less than I sold mine, also returning is Alex Sandro, who has cost twice as much as I sold him for a couple of weeks back, Douglas Costa at LW, and I finally get to try out Rabiot and Lala (opted for SIF), who I've been keen to try. But of course, Mbappe is the star.

Medium-Long term, I'll aim to bring in an Icon at CM in Rabiot's place, and Costa will need to go too as he's too weak and his finishing is gash. Also hoping Talisca, Hulk and Paulinho get more in-forms. CSL has had quite a few so far, and the three fo them are raking in the goals and assists as I understand it, so there's hope for a reasonably stamina'd Talisca and even better Hulk and Paulinho cards yet.

Done 4 of the 5 slots on my custom tactics. Only really used two of them so far. One is my standard keep it tight and the other is an obscene pressing 3-5-2. You can't use it for a full game, but just switched it on for the last 30 minutes in a squad battles game and ran out a 9-1 winner (comfortably my biggest win on SB in FIFA19). Ok, the opposition was bilge, but very pleasing to see it in action as it essentially functions like the press you could do in 18 that they turned off in 19.

Ben Yedder netting another 5 goal haul, finishing the game at CAM. I love my front 3 and don't ever really want to change them.

Enjoying the formation too. This, along with 442 were traditionally always my FUT formations, but I abandoned both when PTB and narrow formations became en vogue in '17 and it used to get overrun in midfield. This year it feels a little more balanced, even if I'm often using a scrambling defence, but my play style and team cope with that at the moment. I'm up to D4 now, having spent the past month bumbling around D5 on 1200-1300 skill points. So, it's definitely as effective as it is fun for me. Whether it works in Weekend League is another question.

Rabiot is giving me a headache too - I thought I'd try him and revert to Kondogbia (also 10 chem with this), but he's a lot better than I thought he'd be, and I'm now unsure as to which makes the starting XI tomorrow night.

Work rate is an issue... Especially given Rabiot is at RCM and is also H/M. He's not as bad as Marcelo for spending all his time overlapping, but he does really love a gallop. Hence, the shadow. He's quick enough to have an anchor, but I need excess recovery pace and interception stats with him galavanting around the joint.

Saying that, he's incredible, and cheap as chips at 30k.

As for Rabiot and Kondogbia, I prefer the former actually (despite his feet ability flaws) so can see where you're coming from Merse. Kondogbia's hugely overrated for me, he's just feels too clumsy and his workrates don't suit that either, so I can see why his price has bombed since I bought him. 75% drop. Good player, but that's it.

On the other hand, I really liked Kondogbia breaking things up in the 4321. For some reason, a CM with stay back really does acnhor a midfield in that formation, which doesn't happen to an RCM/LCM in this formation. Think I'm gonna take Rabiot into Champs anyway.

IF's are hard to predict, but some of the recent inflation and lack of supply is just part of a general trend in the early weeks - 90% of people can't afford them and everyone would rather sell those they get to bring in players across their team. There's always a point, normally a little later than this, when they pick back up as NIFs plummet, as suddenly a much greater proportion of players can afford the IFs. This seems to have happened just this last week or so.

Crash comes in a few weeks - I'd beware any investments planned for more than a week, as prices stagnate and drop in anticipation. One of the reasons I went one team this week was the 25% profit on offer for van Dijk, Lloris, Felipe Anderson and Lloris on what I paid for them. That would've been wiped in a couple of weeks (probably the same for my targets though I guess, so probably not really anything to celebrate).

OTW seems to be decent money if you buy on a Sunday and are willing to hold a week to sell on prematch hype. Before his IF Mahrez was available at 90k and going up to around 120k at game time. Richarlison seems similar, albeit 22k up to 30k on game day.

I nabbed a few of his cheap today to hopefully sell ahead of the game Saturday. I wont be getting greed though, 3/4k will do for an initial dabble.

Edit: 86 Keane - Only two on the market. One at 538k and one at 794k so I got greed and split it for an hour to see what I can maybe make....

Made my Serie A team last night and gave it a test in Div 4. Lost 4-1, 5-0 and then won 6-0 so god knows. The players in general being slower is taking getting used to.

It's the flip side of the EPL team. Everyone is tall and strong minus Mertens. Perisic isn't quite as strong as I'd hoped though. In any case I'll give it a try. The idea is to try and play 5 game chunks here and there.
If I make it beyond 10 wins I'll be happy.

5 games down in the WL. 5 wins and only 2 goals conceded. I'd say in the first 4 games I was the better player, with the last game requiring the most skill. However after I went 2-1 up late in it, my opponent devolved his play into looking for space for finesse shots on the edge. That allowed me to read him relatively easily.

I've no misconceptions of myself going 30-0 here, but it's always fantastic to go 4-1 or better in your first 5 games. I'm still only looking to get into double figures. If I can make it into Gold anything that would be a dream first stab at this.

All but one was competitive with a blowout loss in there. I probably should be 8-2, which would look a whole lot healthier, but it has shown me things about my side.

Milinkovic-Savic has been pretty disappointing. He's sluggish both on and off the ball and I really need to have Matuidi or Nainggolan in there. He was being useful for his height, but in my last game I was 1-0 up and the other guy used a player controller corner. In trying to get over to his man he got stuck on another player and gave him a free header. He then switched to a 4-3-3(4) and suffocated the life out of me.

I can't afford Matuidi until Wednesday either, so for now it's either soldier on, or look at IF Pellegrini, IF Fabian or IF Vecino as a short term replacement.

20 games left and the aim is to try and win half of those.

Since day 1, I’ve always found Friday a struggle, matching up against a lot of difficult opponents with big teams. I always assumed this was due to matchmaking being weighted on performance in the league itself and no one yet having put together much of a record, along with that I’d start early after/during my usual work from home day, and that would likely mean facing a lot of the other accomplished players who started early to get the full 40 games in.

Pitch notes (EA’s new method of communicating all the shit players want to know, and a massive step forward for community engagement amongst the hardcore - not that the ungrateful shits are much appeased) recently clarified matchmaking in Fut Champs, and it seems that I was right to some extent -

TL;DR, it’s all based on form, and on Friday, no one has form outside of the allowed differential. So I could face Nepenthez or Faze Taz or AA9Skillz etc

Add to that I still think the real hardcore types dominate Friday Fifa and it becomes a real nightmare of a day. Saturday morning through to Sunday morning, by contrast, sees me tearing apart people.

Problem is, that’s the most difficult time for me to play due to social, Arsenal and gf commitments. Bah. Life.

It’s all based on Bins. Given a lot of players on open bid are listed at 10k max, it gets skewed. The easiest way to filter it out is to only look at High chance of selling. Med and Low normally mean they go on open bid.

Much better IMHO. It makes each W/E league more valuable. I’d normally get a couple of Gold 1 finishes and then not be able to play the other couple of weekend so end up with crappy silvers. This, along with being able to choose the player you want, is far far better.

Also nicer having a quicker turnaround.

Only planned on playing 5 games, but got on a roll with some peace and quiet. I'm done at I believe 18-11. This has also pushed me up to Rank 1 in DR too. 65k coins if I stay there.

I'll have 2 player picks, a rare gold pack, 2 rare mega packs and 45k coins coming my way. There's potential of a Ronaldo TOTW item this week, as well as Mané, but in truth I'll be greatful for any player of use.

I will add that 30 games, combined with the non-monthly rewards, makes this so, so much better.

Picked up Scream Verratti earlier for around 45k net after selling his normal card. I'll probably end up keeping him as most of the boosts should be useful, but it turns out knocking people off the ball with a 5'5" midget and scoring from outside the box at will is pretty fun right now.

The price of most of these should hopefully go up when the boost switches to pace as well so they shouldn't be an awful investment.

I finally flipped and bought enough packs to get 93 George Best. Pretty fucking chuffed, fellas.

Got a "clean" card at 2,020,000 and then bought Samir Handonovic's CL card (89) for like 140k and left the basic chem on there as some of you suggested. In fairness I did throw the clean Best back on the market at 2.5mil to see if anyone would bite while I was watching Orlando City play but once that expired it was straight in.

I like what they've done with kits/stadia this year.

Last 2 years you had people using stadia with awful shadows just to troll you and if you wore an EA kit, no one would play you in FUT Champs as they were usually there to show you won it through being good at the game in some way.

Now they have it so both of you play in the EA stadium, whilst your opponent will have on your away kit and you your home kit. On their screen it will be their home kit and their away kit too.

Koke would be essential as a CM. Might still be worth it as an LM played at CM on 7 Chem with the right boosts and chem styles.

I’ll be using leftovers in the club with one or two purchases to field a fitness team in Rivals. Whilst FUT Champs deserves a dedicated side, I’ve enough high rated players to play one in every three Rivals games without paying out 100’s. Will be nice to be free to experiment as well as bring Jesus and Lucas back into the fold, hopefully with a couple of FUT Champs rewards cards.

They do.

But. Koke’s good enough that switching up the chem style (even on 7 as I mentioned) should keep him looking good regardless of the pair of stats being boosted each shape shift.

They have two stats boosted at all time but the boosted stats change. When they were released they had two stats at 90, then last week they ‘shifted’. Pretty sure only one stat moves and that stat became 91.

So we could see the 90 move and become 91 also at the next shift. Can’t imagine they will go to 92, yet.

Example being the Schweinsteiger I posted above. He has 37 pace and that’s how he was released. Right now he has 91 pace but retained his 90 dribbling.

They've only said at selected times through the season. Last years lot got bumped 5 or 6 times after the original run if I remember right.

I've given up on the 2 squads idea for now and gone full on Serie A. I've also sold off the assets I wasn't using and now sit on 45k. Another 45k in Champs rewards and at least 50k from Rivals.
Looking at bringing 3 or 4 players into the team for this weekend. Matuidi, Douglas Costa and Handanovic are must adds for me. To add beyond that needs some pack luck.

Finally finished the Ligue 1 SBC. Went for Thauvin over Depay as he may not start over Cavani and Mbappe would be a massive outlay right now. He's almost definitely not worth the money it cost, but I'm a sucker for collectibles.
