Referred to in Tibet as Apso Seng Kyi, which can be translated as "Bearded Lion Dog", the Lhasa's primary function was that of a household sentinel, guarding the homes of Tibetan nobility and Buddhist monasteries, particularly in or near the sacred city of Lhasa. The large Tibetan Mastiffs guarded the monasteries' entrances, but the keen hearing and sharp bark of the Lhasa Apso served to warn residents by acting like a burglar alarm if an intruder happened to get past the exterior guards.

It was believed that the bodies of the Lhasa Apsos could be entered by souls of deceased lamas while they awaited rebirth into a new body. Lhasas in Tibet were never sold. The only way a person could get one was as a gift.[9]

I went to watch wrestling last night which was far more fun than I expected. The audience was even more weird than I expected though.

Was gonna go see my dad today cus it has been a while, but he's suggested I come tomorrow evening instead so we can watch the football. I'm really worried about his mental state, he's talking about writing a philosophy book. About how time is a human construct. Problem is that he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is, and he needs to spend time around people to keep himself grounded.

He's spent the last year or so since his stroke basically just dicking around on his own in his (government funded obviously) flat, and I think the time to himself has made him go a bit nuts, and he's convinced himself he's got an idea for a book that A) he's intellectually capable of writing, and B) is a unique and groundbreaking concept. Neither are true. I've been sent instructions to bring 100 sterling superkings, an A4 lined notepad, his Gormenghast DVD and some old mental philosophy book he gave me and told me to read years ago "to reference" for his book. Fucking hell, hopefully I can just steer conversation towards West Brom.

I mean, at least he's got something to focus on.

True, but my mother recently told me a story of how when he was doing his social work training, he'd just retreat to the basement on his own for hours on end. After a few weeks of barely seeing him she went down to check up on him, and he was apparently staring intensely at a single sock rested on top of one of those fold-up washing lines, and when my mum asked what he was looking at he said something like 'that's it, that's the answer. i've figured out the meaning of life'. Which was indeed in reference to the sock.

Perhaps the 12 hour a day van delivery job was the one thing keeping him sane all these years.

Which wrestling? :cool2:

Ring of Honor. It was really great. Surprising amount of Merse-bait grebo fitties to perve over as well, and a high enough proportion of freakazoids in the audience to feel like I'd almost be able to pull one of them.

Just finished a gay as shit 2,200 word assignment for 'Research Methods in English Language & Communication', christ I hate the module.

1,000 word essay on 'How have historians explained Britain’s successes in the wars of the long eighteenth century?' (how the fuck is that only 1000 words?) for Friday and a 1,500 word 'plan of an investigation' for the above bollocks research methods module for next Sunday.

Fun times.

I'll probably just sleep until 1pm tomorrow rather than do any work in preparation for the above two.

My brother lives in Bristol and has a collection of mental health/drug issues and I realised after seeing him that he basically needs constant supervision. I'd been considering it for a while but I decided I needed to move down. The two things aren't really compatible, it broke my brain a bit. Sad news Dino. Nothing you can do about it until you get the results so difficult as it is you just have to try and get on with what you can as normal until then.

If you're brother has a problem I suspect you really should flag it. Getting turfed back to Greece for a bit (or the threat of) may be the kick he needs.

Dare I ask-what was the root cause of this panic? I've been meaning to sign up for a GP for about 4 years now. :moop:

A few things, Foe, but primarily blood/mucus in my poop and a thing on my bollock. My man doesn't think I have bowel cancer (which was statistically unlikely but terrifying), but theres definitely something unusual on my right nad so the jury's still out there.

The brother thing is fairly complicated and I don't really see a solution. Sticking him in "rehab" or whatever for a few months seems like the best short term fix but he would fight it with everything and probably just get back on it once out.

Wasn't too shabby, watching a load of mongs try ice skating and falling over was fun.

Some big chap properly got swept when he was on the ice, he tried to get up quickly and his mate had to save him as it was looking like he was going to go again.

Also went to Cabana for dinner and then treatz for desert.

Not so much Rangers fans but we're far from the favourite race of the hardline union type Scot and we don't want trouble. It'd be the last place I'd be going of I'd any say in the arrangements.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh voted Yes to independence so I'd say you'll be fine either way.

Edinburgh will be absolutely fine and you'll probably want to stick around Haymarket or GrassMarket areas. Few nice places in Stockbridge and Leith but they're a taxi ride away and you'll think they're hipster anyway.

HI

Lived in Liverpool for 3 years, went back for a weekend recently.

Depends what kind of thing you're looking for, obviously.

The Philharmonic dining rooms at the bottom of Hardman Street is lovely, and ideal as a starting point because you then walk up Hardman Street past shit loads of decent boozers to get further into town. Can be a pain to get a seat, but it is very nice. Be sure to check out the grade 2 listed marble urinals.

Further up Hardman Street is the Fly in the Loaf, which is a nice pub too. Bit pricey, and I'm not a massive fan of the trendy refurb they've done recently, but worth a look I reckon. Hannah's is alright too, but a bit yuppy for my tastes. I'd recommend popping into the Roscoe Head, which is on the corner of Roscoe Street and Hardman Street, sort of down a little unassuming lane. Proper old man pub, though if you have a massive group it might not be feasible.

Once you get to the bottom of Hardman Street, you're basically in the more bar/club area of town, and there's plenty of great places round there. Heebie Jeebies and Brooklyn Mixer on Seel Street are decent, Shipping Forecast is really decent (usually quite lively, not full of dickheads and the DJs are usually pretty good). Lago is great fun if you fancy a bit of Motown, but is usually fucking rammed. Jacaranda is alright as well. These places are all within minutes of each other, and I'd recommend just ambling around there and seeing what you fancy the look of.

I seen Seel St and Ropeworks seemed like good areas and I've got a few of those bars on my list so happy days.

Went to London today.

Gave my support to the 'Save our NHS' lot by giving a few of those at the march in Leicester Square a nod, I was used by a street performer as a comedic tool (he insinuated I was gay and that I should give him a call later), I was seen as the head of the table/family by some Chinese waiters, almost got initiated by some 'lads' on a tube as I was surrounded by about 8 of them (as well as another 6 or so randoms) and then almost got an eyeful when two pissed up 'females' almost took down their trousers on the train toilet as they didn't realise they double tapped the door button.

Also saw some shit art and a man produce a bubble storm. Pretty eventful day.

Kicking off my Saturday by playing 20 questions (aka akinator game) with my mate over fb messenger. I'm thinking of Kevin McCloud off of Grand Designs.

She got "tv presenter", and when she went with stuff like Bradley Walsh and Stephen Mullhern I said "slightly higher brow".

She's since gone with "Ant and Dec", and "Football related?" When I said "Higher brow!" she got pissy and said she doesn't watch anything high brow. Surely she must know stuff more high brow than Ant and Dec ffs. This being a girl who went to a grammar school and went to a redbrick uni.

For the record, I'd classify Grand Designs as trashy guilty pleasure tv as well.

Had a bit of a scare this morning,

I was out early and driving on a dual-carriage way with a grassy central reservation. There was a Land Rover-type car coming the other direction who suddenly mounted the central reservation, mowed down 3 or 4 small trees and started driving straight at me. I swerve out the way and he carries on for a good 50 feet or so before mounting the central reservation again and getting back on his side.

Fucking hell. Probably the most mental thing I've seen in person on the roads. Hopefully it wasn't a hit and he was just drunk or asleep or something.

He told me the other day that they only have about 5 left Cus of people moving on, moving away or dying, but they keep it going out of habbit more than anything else. I thought it an apt comparison for how I see this place going. It'll never die cus we're all too stubborn and autistic, it'll just get slowly more quiet. I had no idea that How 2 was still going in 2006. I assumed it stopped in the mid 90s.

I also love that Fred Dinenage's Wikipedia photo looks like someone has unexpectedly photographed him while he's washing his car on a Sunday afternoon.

:D and he's not happy about it either.

I've to fix the lawnmower and get all that shit done this weekend, my least favourite thing in the world. The neighbour is moaning at me about some tree/bush thing that's going out over her fence a bit but "don't cut it back too much as I like the blossoms on it". She's getting two choices; leave it as it is or I'm taking it off at the stump and putting diesel on the roots.

Want the number of my gardener? He's pretty desperate sounding, I'm sure he'll travel.

Actually getting someone else to do it is a pretty sound idea.

Got the mower going with some emery paper and a pencil and got the grass cut. Cannot for the life of me find a gardening company that will take on a small job like I need to get that creeper thing removed though. I've drilled into the base of the stump and poured diesel in it so I'll see does it die a bit and I'll try take it then.

Prep for an internal round 2 interview tomorrow. I've been told it's only me and one other candidate (external) being interviewed and most seem to think I have it in the bag but I'm concerned at the lack of progress I'm making coming up with decent STAR situations to meet the most obvious competencies. Only 45 mins at least and I know the hiring manager well (he prompted me to apply).

Still. It's shit to be having to be productive when the weathers like this. I just wanna sit outside of assorted cafe bars all day.

On a sunnier note. On a trip to town to grab new shoes and troos I got a free Pret. Which is nice. Particularly as one of the girls at work in London gets a free coffee there all the time and my gf got one a fortnight or so ago. Given I frequent them almost daily I was feeling a bit put out.

Logged into Papa John's to find out that my monthly hungover pizza purchase is well documented:

The guy that delivers is Greek and he noticed my surname a while ago. There's something about unexpectedly exchanging kalimeres that I find very enjoyable.

Are Kalimeres bodily fluids?

Why aren't you getting the biggest possible pizza?

Is 'The Greek (Authentic Thin Crust)' the pizza or you?

I reckon pizza is one of the worst hangover foods. A good one isn't greasy enough to chase it away and a bad one is always a disappointing mess.

Papa John is about as close to the bland middle ground as you'll get though, I suppose.

I find there's a fair bit of self-disgust required to sit in all afternoon and consume a large pizza + sides on your own and I'm not really sure it's worth it.

It's the pizza, I like to think the lads in the shop have a good lol when they pass the job on to the driver.

Nah it's brilliant. It's all in the dips really. Papa Johns is easily the best thing I can get my hands on at midday without leaving the building.

Yeah, I think Papa John's is pretty good as long as you get some sort of offer involved. Their chilli dip is shit, though, and that's a bit of an essential.
