I think you generally have to win to be able to decide what is just, so, I dunno, if you manage to overthrow whatever construct you are opposed to? Trying to rationlise the right to not be beholden to the laws of any given land just sounds a bit sovereign citizen to me, which I think we generally deride in most contexts.

Also, from a semantic point of view, which is what the devil's advocate question was about, I don't think individuals or even non-state actors can actually declare war on something in the international law sense of that term.

Killing = bad.
Killing bad people = good.

Seems legit.

Yevrah

Just playing devil's advocate here. Why does one country deciding to declare war on another (eg. Russia on Ukraine), suddenly making killing people acceptable?

It doesn’t if you’re the aggressor, it does if you’re the other side.

Ben

It doesn’t if you’re the aggressor, it does if you’re the other side.

Now just to carry on the analogy, wasn’t the CEO’s company the aggressor in that they’ve freely admitted denying claims for spurious reasons. These actions have resulted in unnecessary deaths.

So by acting on behalf of those that have unnecessarily died as a result of UnitedHealth’s actions, Mangione isn’t the aggressor. The fact he used a gun as his weapon of choice shouldn’t be a factor.

I mean, how many tears did you cry when Osama Bin Laden got shot in the face? Not many, I imagine. Why would anyone sympathise with a scumbag dying?

Don't you kick people out of council houses for a living?

Spikey M

Don't you kick people out of council houses for a living?

When it's warranted, yes. The man I secured possession against today has spent the last 3 months hosting all night parties for his druggy friends while his neighbours call the police on a nightly basis.

However, my actual job is sustaining tenancies and trying to prevent evictions by addressing problem behaviour. What a monster.

I'm sure I would agree with most of your decisions, but it wouldn't be a massive stretch for somebody else to see you as part of the problem and/or a wider societal problem.

Very few true originals exist in the world of art (or life in general, I suppose) so it's always a blow when one of them is no longer around.

Not sure I'd have said he was dead, but I also wouldn't have thought he was 84.

Think I would have gone with the former in an either or question.

Strangely an eternal legend of the Surrey cricket league, after he was inexplicably booked as the guest speaker at the Oval end of season awards one year (usually it's an ex cricketer of some sort). He completely misunderstood the brief, started telling earnest stories of his youth in Ireland, was heckled by the hundreds of bored guests, then ended up being booed off stage and stormed out of the Oval in a drunken rage, swearing and gesticulating at all those who had come expecting gags.

For the next 20 years every guest speaker has been introduced '...but sadly Henry Kelly wasn't available, so we had to settle for Dominic Cork' or whatever. As such Henry, despite being a piece of shit, will live on in my heart.

The theme tune for Going For Gold was composed by Hans Zimmer, who went on to become a hugely successful film and TV composer.

I suppose you've got to start somewhere.

Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog appear to have been dead for some time when they were found in different rooms of their home in the US state of New Mexico, according to police.

According to the search warrant, the couple's German Shepherd dog was found dead in a bathroom closet near to Ms Arakawa.

Dead dog.

Foreman's story is incredibly inspirational and should help others, coming from a poor background with anger inside him to being a big, loveable, cuddly teddy bear figure.

Not to mention all the other major things he achieved. I re-watched the 'Big George Foreman' movie a couple of days ago so the news was a bit spooky today.
