Carrie Fisher is everything I want to be. Resilient, quirky, fun and mad as a box of frogs, while remaining true to herself and her convictions. She never held her tongue, and stands up for what she believes in. She loves her friends, her dog, and her fans. She has written 8 books, 3 plays and 3 screenplays, and doctored the movie scripts for Sister Act, Last Action Hero and The Wedding Singer.
She is who I want to be in life. And I really, really want her to be okay.

I think the idea that there have been more celebrity deaths this year is just the result of baby boomer idols reaching death age (baby boomers control everything in public discourse). Watch there be just as many next year, and the year after that.

Warwick Davis was on Sky News making out like they were bezzie mates.
'We never actually spoke, as such. Or met. But...'
The news coverage of these things is becoming increasingly morbid.
Footage of flowers and candles left at a mourning location of perceived relevance, sombre voiceover repeats verbatim some words left on a note, interview with a member of the public who had never actually met the individual in question or, at a stretch, gave them their change when they worked at the newsagents talking about how great they were, someone famous they once worked with who hasn't spoken to them in over two decades speaking into a camera, perhaps through Skype, about how greatly were, before the newsreader rounds it all up in an equally sombre voice before moving onto the more upbeat news of the day, like the latest from Aleppo or the Zika virus.

It was a meme several years ago due to something on twitter that's so inane even I can't remember it.
'Members of the public who have never met the individual in question have started to leave flowers and candles at a location of perceived relevance...'
Whilst delivered in a very sombre voice.
I assume this trend away from a few relevant clips from, and a recounting of, their career started in 1997, when the need for public display became paramount. Further evidence for your Year Zero hypothesis.

I always wonder if it's some kind of journalistic shorthand (like tired and emotional or Ugandan discussions) for something like a massively debilitating stroke that they really shouldn't have survived.
It'll be cancer.
I'm not sure that's always true. This sums it up nicely, I think:
A short illness is a nice way of saying they died of a condition which didn't take them suddenly and they didn't fight for years. The were diagnosed with pneumonia or something similar and died a few days later despite efforts to save them.
For example author Sue Townsend is described in several places on the BBC website as dying "after a short illness". The truth is that she died a few days after suffering a stroke.
The "short illness" description is used because BBC policy is that an obituary celebrates the life of a person and doesn't focus on their death. The actual illness that took her life isn't really relevant so it's glossed over with a phrase that makes it clear her death wasn't sudden or prolonged but doesn't dwell on the detail.

Hammer, you are fucking dogshit at counting mate. How do you make 4 posts and still not end up on the next page.
It was on the next page each time I posted it but someone is in the habit of deleting posts to thwart my valiant efforts.
It's a shame that it's happening, but nothing worth having ever came easy and I am determined to continue the fight for as long as it takes.

I already explained it to you. No-one is deleting your posts you nutter, you aren't counting the amount of posts correctly as vBulletin will automatically move your post to a new page based on average posting times to allow for fresh posts to come in while you were posting.
It'll be a shame when you get banned for spamming.

No he means that his post shows on the top of a new page (post 51, 101, 151, etc) but then someone deletes a previous post of theirs to make it post 50, 100, 150, etc and thus at the bottom of the previous page.

I always liked them (not the music, I'm not mentally ill) purely for the fact they managed to get so many people to publicly admit they were in this group and take on a ridiculous name and take it so seriously. Like some kind of mass psychosis only with 8p in royalties and six months in Pentonville at the end.
