I had a spare hour last night so I've put a little dent in. Up to 4-1. I(hopefully) wont be playing near all 30 games so I put my mental 4-3-3 back on and it's been a blast. The loss was a strange one. My opponent was okay, but his Neymar seemed glitched. I couldn't catch him with Mbabu and also couldn't push him off the ball with him or Boateng. He scored 3 goals from moments where I'd thought I'd won the ball already.

I told myself I'd put Klopp ball on full send tonight and give it a go. Sundays are usually a bastard for me so I might as well go down swinging. I went from 4-1 yesterday right up to 13-1. I hasn't even realised it either.

But I'm sure when you're 1 away from these milestones the difficulty goes up. Out came the mega squads. By this point my eyes were going too as I've been up since 4am. I wasn't getting drawn into any long battles. I just wanted my win. I lost 1 game agonisingly late late on, but then the next 3 people pumped in goals early against me. On another weekend I'd stay and fight.

Then after that I won the ball pressing from kick off to score within 5 mins and the opponent quit. 14-5. Considering my tactics and tiredness I'm okay with that. Had a blast winning my way too. One game was mental. 6-6 AET. He scored in the 93rd min to take it to extra time and I scored in the 122nd to take it to pens. He was hopeless at them and only scored one.

I played POTM Messi once and he tore me a new asshole, so I am very keen to get him in for this week. He seems like a fly on the ball.

Cracking day on the game yesterday. Finished Messi and the icon swap objectives I had left to do, which just leaves me Pastore to work on this week. Think the current Silver Star isn't worth bothering with and the Dutch and Championship milestones can wait until I can double up with something while doing them (which may be harder as you now need 11 players for both).

Not interested in either of the Showdown SBC's, Cavani or the two Icon ones, so I can now just go on a huge pack grind for whatever promo comes next, which is made 50% easier with those bronze and silver upgrades.

If I buy this game next year I'll be going first owner and no FP from the off and aiming to stick religiously to only doing SBC's if they're of a quality to take you to TOTS (like Son's PotM) or they're a player I have a soft spot for (like Rooney). Very curious to see how much one can accumulate doing so.

I guess it depends on how much you want to go balls deep into trading. Seems like there's still opportunities to be made with it, but I'm never quite focussed enough to get into it. I made a decent amount at the start (amusingly through trading...err, paint) but haven't bothered as much for a while. I think IF players seem to be the key thing to go in for, even if you have to hold them for a while you'll eventually make a profit once the right SBC rolls around.

I tried a new formation to start this WL in order to fit some new players in the team. It ended up being a 3-4-1-2 to incorporate Neymar, WIF Marcelo, WIF Armstrong and Flashback Kroos, and it was a bit bonkers to say the least. Chance creation was not an issue but defensively, I was all over the shop. I conceded 24 goals in 5 games, going 2-3 to start the weekend, and interestingly, my pass completion percentage was on the floor, in the low 70s. I presumed it was more down to the formation rather than the players, especially as I was using great passing players in the middle like Kroos and 88 Gundogan (yes I did him immediately).

It was a decent experiment, but I wasn't enjoying it too much so switched back to the team I've been using for the past 3 weeks, and went 9-2 to finish up 11-5 last night. Much better control of the games, and felt like I was dominating opponents constantly. Not to mention the pass completion was back in the high 80s or low 90s for each game. Milinkovic-Savic really is the real deal in the middle of the park.

Sadly for me no Jota sighting. None of the big boy stuff either. Red Koopmeiners is decent, but the Fonte is just fodder at this point. I'm hoping the player pick or two at the weekend is better.

The packs were however better. Alisson and Parejo in my rare gold pack meant I had enough to take untradeble rewards for the extra chance. In one of those I got Fabinho and Gulasci which more than made up for not taking the 45k coins.

Plugging a lot of the new stuff in, combined with the Caputo upgrade, sees me save Yuri, Robben(for Benedetto), Ben Yedder and Tonali. Unfortunately Neves is still unable to be saved and that might be that on him.

Still, I've still some stuff to chuck into the 88 squad now so it gets cheaper and cheaper. I've still got Pastore to get for it too. If I include my Ter Stegen I could be looking at doing this for damn near "free."

Mbappe winning POTM does provide a chance here. I haven't lost anything on Messi as yet and an 4/6 of the way there. So I could in theory pile my objective cards into the top 2 on Mbappe instead, but then I'm effectively starting again and likely giving up on Messi.

I think the play is just to finish Messi for now. Which I think I could do tomorrow.

It might be worth you intentionally going down further. I've nothing but regretted getting into D1. I hover around the 2k skill point mark and it's 5-3-2 central. There also the reward situation. It's still just as good to be in Div 4 getting yourself Rank 1 or 2 rewards, pretty much as valuable, with much less bother.

I’ve slumped from 1900 to 1600 now... same issues in every game, I’ve gone to shit defensively, which I can’t afford when I don’t play the meta formations that drop numbers back - I have only my CBs and CDM staying back, and play wide variant of 41212 so I know I’ll be countered and normally excel in defending on the back foot.

I'm currently playing 4-3-3(2). The one with 2 CMs and a CDM. 5 width, 10 depth, pressure on possession loss. LW and RW - come back on defence, get in behind, cut inside, get into box for crosses. ST - get in behind, stay central. CMs - get forward, stay on the edge for crosses. CDM is stay back on defence. Sweeper keeper and the full backs are all balanced.

Like you I can't be doing with the "meta" so I just turn it up to 11. It's great fun to absolutely swarm someone out of the game.

My total amount of coins spent on Messi was to acquire 1 Oblak to complete the last squad. So he was done for ~100k. I gave up a couple of cards that were sentimental, but I've lost only Ter Stegen from the page that shows my squad plus subs and reserves. He'll need replacing but I still have 250k to hand. Hopefully the swaps tokens next week aren't a dick to get and I can get that 82 and 83 x 25 pack to fill the club back up.

Now the question is chemistry style. Is Basic the way to go? He isn't at his fastest but his agility goes to max and so by default does his dribbling and passing. There's also Architect which would bump his strength to 89. Though the rest of the boosts are wasted here.

Just had a match which ended 6-4 to my opponent where his first came as I’d not picked up my controller at kick off due to farting about on Spotify (my bad) and the subsequent 5 came from me cutting out passes or tackling only for his player to regain the ball before I can get a pass/clearance away. It feels like a fundamentally broken part of the game - attacking players just don’t nick balls away from the tackle in fractions of seconds by running the same way without breaking stride...

I pressed X with Rio about 4 times before he got the shot in but obviously the game didn't register a single one.

I then got a penalty almost instantly in ET but I missed it, thankfully Neymar broke down the wing and found a cross for Van Basten who powered a header in. From there it was all me and I got another penalty in the 119th minute which I missed and he almost scored an equaliser with the last kick of the game again.

Took Messi for his first spin in WL and he has 4 goals and 2 assists after 2 games. It's immediately obvious that this is basically his TOTY card but with less stamina. Though I am only 1-1.

I used the above team with regular Pope in goal and he conceded every shot. I was even allowing some shots from angles I knew previously that Neuer or Ter Stegen would save, yet they flew in. It's annoying as Shaw as a CB has shown me "the way." Speed with he's a bit quicker off the mark than Boateng was, but seems to have a little extra. But the big noticeable difference is the agility. You can turn Boateng inside out if you can dribble. Shaw it is much harder to shake off. I understand all of this full back at CB business better now.

I do need to find a good keeper though.

Just played one of the most annoying people I've ever played in WL.

He was playing an extremely up tempo game with lots of pressure, he was extremely good with skills and he was basically playing his keeper as a CB.

Was 3-3 AET (I was 2-0) and he ended up winning 5-4 with the last kick of the game.

I've never played someone so aggressive with a keeper and it really threw me off. I should have scored at least 8 but I kept second guessing myself as to where his fucking Lloris would be.

Same here. Selling Wright to replace with his SBC version means I’ve got 2m, and Davies/Alaba RTTFs have been on my list a while. If I can get Mbappe done I can keep Camavinga without needing the Ligue 1 defence, so it’s all dependent on that really. Also a question of whether I want Bender at RB - Klaiber does look a better bet and Robben is still pulling up trees, so maybe I’ll stick with just GK-LB-CB-CB moving to Bundesliga.

My one last hope for red Jota ended as I was handed three sub-80 players and 86 Werghorst. It is however good to be finished at a reasonable time for once. The team is a bit imbalanced right now. I'll see what the end of this season brings then I'll work on it.

Well first proper Champs game in my road to 14 was a 7-4 win. It was 3-3 at half time and I missed 3 sitters but kept hitting him on the counter to win in the second half.

Completed Pastore today, and I've already ticked off 4 wins in 4 for Benedetto too. Good day of grinding MM and it looks promising to get this all finished up by Friday. Neymar seems to be the key for the Ligue 1 games - no one can touch him with their bog-standard defenders, he just glides past everyone. The WIF Weah is also pretty lethal.

There were some funny interactions today though - in one match my opponent paused at the start and I received a message "Golden goal?". There wasn't any time to respond (not that I would), but I immediately went forward and was ahead inside 5 minutes. And no, he didn't leave. He quickly buggered off once I smashed in my 3rd goal inside the opening 25 minutes at least.

I also took great joy in coming from behind and beating someone who paused it for me at 1 and 2-0. Ended up winning 5-3 and made sure to pause it fully on both my 4th and 5th goals.
