I’m torn. I didn’t originally want to do him, but I do already have Coutinho and Messi in the club.

What doesn’t help is there’s no loans for these players any more. Can’t even try before you buy.

He's pretty much my favourite player in FIFA - just has that mix of body type/stats that slips around defenders, plus the magical 5/5. There aren't that many mega RW in this either - someone like Sancho is only 5/4, worse body type and is...2.5m on the market - this seems relatively cheap by comparison.

Also, I missed his CAM card last year for Summer Heat who looked bonkers. This one seems better, aside from not being central.

Let’s me bring Dest back in, probably my fave card this year. And I always love a Dembele at CAM, which he can do with Auoar perfect for RM and Volland for LM. I’m mostly worried my POTM Mbappe will feel a bit naff now all the tots are out!

Agree with that, but I want Dembele. Not tried that Atal but I'm sure he's ace. Dembele so far has been lovely. Just glides around :drool:

In my infinite wisdom I decided to start my WL at 7:30pm on Sunday... I thought fuck it. This is likely my last hurrah with it as I can't see the value in WL after TOTS is over.

I looked at my team and while I was doing well with it. It wasn't the one I had the most fun with. So I sold up what was sellable and finally bought myself a TOTS Kimmich. I also completed Javi Martinez out of fodder in the club. Not a penny spent there.

Almost exclusively played 4-4-2 with the exception of a few times I went to 4-2-2-2 to counter the 5 at the back nonsense. The weekend started badly with a loss in the very first game. Something that rarely happens to me. However I won the next 8 on the bounce to come to life. A tough loss in game 10 and then again there were 8 wins on the bounce. Got to 16-2 but then the matchmaking really kicked in. I lost 4-0 to a guy with PIM Vieira, TOTS De Jong, Messi, Ben Yedder, AWB et al. Just could not break him down.
A similar team awaited me next and after being 2-0 down in 10 mins I thought fuck it and quit. A spritely win in the last gave me a 17-4 finish. I think it either is, or ties my best weekend to date.
Had I started earlier in the weekend the slim chance of Elite may have tempted me to play on, but as it is, no thanks.

Kimmich was a revelation. Solely as a CM he gave me 15 goals and 7 assists from those 21 games. I don't have any instructions on him either, so it was all him popping up at the right time.

By the time Thursday hits I'll have 700k in the kitty still but I've no idea what I can do with it now. An improvement on Zambrotta or Mbabu perhaps the only options. I could get Messi to 10 chemistry doing that Dembele, but Di Maria was good for me. As a pure LM in a 4-4-2 he got 10 goals and 10 assists. Reus is the one I'd want to change the most, but thanks to chemistry, he's near impossible to get shut of.

There was a small sense of closure with the last game finishing. Like this may well be it. I'm not even sure the 94 Puskas can get into the team as it is now.

This is how it looks after the madness of that Mbappe pick. I did go into it reasonably hoping for Bamba and he was there in the same pick as Mbappe, but sadly not the 2nd time around, so the other pick was Cancelo. I'm still stunned I didn't just get goalkeepered.

I did also tell myself I was going to do Dembele, but now I dont know. He fit nice and easy when Messi was there, but doing that will knock Mbappe down to 8 chem. Also I quite like Di Maria, minus his weak foot.

The current set up has Aouar as a RM/RAM. The weak link now would be Reus. Because of the chemistry I can only replace him with a German LM from the Bundesliga or a Bayern player. I'd actually love to bring in Bamba, but he doesn't quite fit in without losing Kimmich/Martinez.

There's likely a way to shift the formation about to make it work, but my brain isn't seeing it right now.

I've 720k for upgrades and Kimmich is the only asset for about 400k extra if needed.

Coman seems the likely key to it, being Bayern/French. Whether he's any good or not, I dunno. Probably not much different to Reus. What are you doing for Swaps? Puskas or something else?

Dembele is great by the way. The 5/5 is immense on a player that slippery.

I've used Coman before and while he's good, his workates affect him. Oddly Messi who has the same med/low seems to work better, but perhaps because he plays through the middle for me. Coman as a LW doesn't seem to move that well off the ball.

The annoyance of Dembele is he finishes tonight, so I'd need to fully commit. Ideally I'd like to wait and see what the new promo offers, but that luxury isn't available.

Florenzi looks great - the objectives looks like you can just rattle through a bunch of SB games/friendlies on easy and clear them off pretty quickly. Should generate some nice fodder

Agree with you there. Thommo got Frenkie as a red only a few weeks ago, he seems to be the best CDM that isn't called Patrick. I'd even argue he's better. Mahow got IF Neymar and that Prime Puskas from memory. As well as about a million TOTS items through player picks. You've had double Lewa and the two best FoF cards.

And Yev, who pretty much stopped in January got Eusebio, Cruyff and TOTY Mbappe to name a few...

I got CR7 when he was worth about 1.3m who really helped kick start my team. TOTS Mbappe coming in is easily my biggest ever pull in terms of coin value. 5m coins at the time of getting his red.
He's just something else. I only bothered with 3 WL games but he got 12 goals and some assists. I didn't actually get on with his gold that I got the other week. It seemed like time had caught him up a little, but this card is levels above that. That people had access to it near 6 months ago, explains to me how behind the power curve I really was then...

He would very much fit my team with how it sets up now, but as pointed out before he is quite pricey and I don't have much fodder left. He also stands a reasonable chance of upgrade too.

I still do have the Bundesliga back line for now though, so if I don't do him I should definitely do Piszceck as he'd be an upgrade on Mbabu in every way. I understand the short dates on these but it's really annoying.

I ended up passing on Florenzi. Given Italy have a serious chance of winning the thing, I just can't pay 450k for a card that may switch to another league and become useless.

I've also changed plan on my Swaps prize(they change on Friday so if anyone needs any, get them done). I was set on taking Puskas, however given recent... events, he no longer would make my starting XI. Well, he would over Reus, but he'd be on reduced chemistry.

I'll likely take a gamble on one of the moments ones to see what I can get.


EDIT: It's been pointed out by Mahow that the original screenshot we saw of the different options, was wrong. You can't actually do the 3 fodder packs and then get Puskas(@Raoul Duke) as you'll be a token short.

So it's either the moments and 92+ moments pack, or the moments player pick for 10 tokens, or lastly the 92+ moments midfielder player pick for all 12 of my remaining tokens.

Initial thoughts is that FOF Team 1 was better - Felix is great and Militao/Klostermann/Militao will be great in game. Hernandez being a Squad Battles SBC is a nice touch although I already have Zagadou there.

Alvarez at Level 15 and then not sure for 30 just yet. All look very decent.

This pack preview thing sounds like an interesting development. Can definitely see people going in for it if you've got a beast Icon sat there waiting for you.

I'm not home yet so I've not seen what awaits me in mine. It's very clever from them I think. I reckon the vast majority of the player base is not like us and might have an okay/decent team but less than 50k in the club.

If they see an Icon or a promo player in their preview or someone they really like, they'll definitely put FIFA points on as they know what they're getting.

Hell, I'm strictly a no points kind of player and even I'd get points on if I saw PIM R9 sat there waiting for me.

Just did 3 rivals games.

2-0 rage quit after 10 minutes in the first, a rage quit before kick off in the second and then a 4-0 rage quit after 65 minutes in the third.

Ronaldo didn't get a goal contribution in the first two but he did grab two goals in the third and I should have scored more with him.

He feels very smooth on the ball but I think his biggest asset was that in the two proper games my opponent was focusing on him a lot which created more space for Cantona, Neymar and Bruno.

After I got Makelele in my first Icon Swaps pack, I did wonder if that was me properly done, but I've done a couple of the SBCs out to throw stuff away. My 87 x 3 landed me a Parades and my 3rd Mbappe in about 4 weeks. Unfortunately my 85+ had me see 86 Sommer as the best available. Yuck.

I think I'll finish up the swaps to see who my bigger Icon pack yields.

The only other thing I can think of doing is properly dumping anything that isn't in my first 11 into that Prime/Moments pick. I'll likely not get much, but really what else is there now? I doubt there much if anything in the way of a promo now as attention will turn to '22. We're on the cusp of July now. Interest is dying and the players I'd submit just aren't getting used.

Icon pick has been completed. I didn't actually have to kiss too much goodbye. Though Cannavarro and POTM Felix have now left us. A shame, but neither has even threatened the bench in months and I thank them for their service.

In putting some of these cards though I realise how much I need to stop hoovering up random player SBCs. For example, Olmo and Bellinghams moments both went into one and neither really lasted a week in my team before something newer and shinier came out. That's near 400k of fodder gone right there.

Not quite what I was hoping for really. However VDS is supposed to be the best keeper in the game so I'll take it as Neuer has been shite. This could have been much worse.

Now I didn't touch a coin doing that and do have some stuff left over to dump. Henry there is quite tempting, but I've heard his balance can ruin the card. He doesn't have a good body type in this either so I'm not sure.

I've now ticked off all the swaps bar the Champs/Rivals slog for that last chance at a big Icon. It's good that it'll be either a midfielder or attacker, but that 92 rating still leaves in quite a lot of shit now.

My first pick gave me Areola. I put him in goal so I could bring in P2P Paredes. 2nd pick was Fekir who replaced Aouar for the final stretch and the 15th win got me a red Ruben Dias. Not the best picks but I wont complain.

I went 15-6 in the end. That defence just isnt for me. Makelele is slow, weak and not very agile. Hernandez actually feels good, but does need a stat boost so go France. Kimpembe I found a bit meh and Mukiele felt strange. It was as if he was playing without a brain. Seemed very dopey. Bamba just felt out dated at this point.

Roussillon actually felt pretty good, but when you're used to Alphonso Davies, it's a bit harsh on him. VDS and Martinez though were both fantastic. Martinez with 28 goals in the 18 games he got played for.

I feel like I could have done better than that record with a better defence. There were 3 late collapses from me, including one that I managed to lose despite being 5-4 up on the 87th minute.

I'd like it if they just nerfed chaining skills (which they tried to do in 21) because even 5* skillers don't spend 95% of the game doing skills and AI blocks need nerfing too.

I take it the Heros concept will now replace Icons, as they used to Legends before that.

As Raoul mentioned, some of those could be of great use in the early game to keep you moving nicely along their power curve.

This years game played mostly very well. The AI auto blocks need toning down a little. In such a way that you can get a block in but the ball still deflects into the opposite corner. Or at least has a chance to. The current meta of it's either a goal or complete block with nothing inbetween can be frustrating.

The skills also need to be reduced. I understand there's a "skill" to it, but if as they say, they want a more realistic football experience, they have to go. Ronaldinho was the best player at incorporating skills into real football and even he only did one, maybe two in any given possession.

Timed matching sounds like a thing. Something like you can only find opponents every 10 minutes or whatever so everyone is searching for a game at the same time. If you miss the window, you have to wait another 10 minutes before the window opens again.

So my thoughts on the new changes.

Having to requalify every week is a bit of a pain in the ass. I think there was only me and The Merse who used to smash the WL back in the day when it was 40 games and you had to do the knockout tournament.
What I will say is, the mode was harder then. If I played all 40 games, I could win 25 on your average week. Win average of about 63% When they knocked it back to 30 games and took out the tournament entry I would win 22/23 games and my win percent went up to about 73% That's a significant shift.

To Yevs point I will say that the removal of any Tom, Dick and Harry being able to shit their way to enough Rivals games to get in will average out the people looking for 20-0 finishes. Matchmaking will be much more competitive.
The way it works now is a bit daft. You have to play around 10 games for the matchmaking to properly kick in. I could play any given WL right now and reliably go 8-2 or better from those opening games. They'll just cut out that bit. It also adds a lot more emphasis on your losses. The top pros have all been using various methods to make sure they avoid each other on these weekend games too, so they should still be fine.

I guess this is all aimed at keeping players going during the week. I, myself, only tend to play to 14 wins at a weekend and then take time off until the next one. I also pick and choose which objective cards to go for or not.

They also used to offer free entry to weekend league a few times a year too.

I'm still waiting to see the official explanation of everything they're doing before I judge it too much, but it seems they want to move away from the WL being a survival of the fittest/those with the most free time and make it ultra competitive.
