FIFA 21: Featuring the FUT 100

Much, much more enjoyable weekend league this time around. After fixing the defence it was time to crack on and I did that well.

Lining up in a 4-2-2-2 in game. The obvious odd one out is Deco. He was the CDM with a licence to push forwards but he's really exposed at the back. He mostly ended up coming off for Vidal or Jones.
I ended up 17-4, much improved on the 17-11 of last week. The defence came in clutch many times.

Isak ended with 29 goals and 15 assists from the 21 games. He felt pretty damn good and he won a fair share of back post crosses. Bailey was his first full chem outing. He was okay, but his dribbling didn't feel that great with a maestro on. Perhaps he needs the finisher for me to properly judge.

The cards I really want to try now are Vazquez and Coutinho. After that, no idea where it goes from here.

Got to 10-3 and thought I'd finish with my best 11 win finish. I was playing well and feeling really good so EA obviously decided to take a massive shit on me.

In comes a guy who was using directional nutmegs more than my previous 13 opponents combined and I have to walk at 4-0 down after 27 minutes. Then comes another sweaty prick abusing nutmegs.

Then another one using an all time Chelsea 11.

I then get matched up against someone and go 2-0 up. He then pauses and changes his tactics to constant pressure. He makes it 2-1 almost straight away as he puts a corner on Isak's head. I then hit the post just before HT but I'm all over him in the second half and I make it 3-1. He then comes back to make it 3-3 with 2 in the last 10 minutes. I then hit the post with the last kick of the game.

In ET his players are all dead and yet I keep fucking up passes and it goes to penalties. I miss my first two but I manage to get it to sudden death where I lose and then he sends me hate mail.

I was then matched up against a mega team with TOTY VVD, TOTS Dias & Cancelo, PIM Kenny, PIM Essien, POTM Messi & mid Pele. He takes the lead as Cannavaro runs into a man who had stopped instead of taking the ball (it was harder for him to not take the ball) but I end up making it 4-2. He pulls one back in the 73rd minute but I hold on.

Rough end to an otherwise really good WL run.

Edit: Oh and I really think that Cantona will be done this week. It means Puskas will be sold to fund him but I think with those coins, what I have in my club and from hammering out some upgrades I can get him done.

As for the swaps I'm torn.

There are some amazing options in there but 9 swaps come in 39 days (assuming the drop the second half as soon as the new season drops) and realistically will I still be playing the game by that point?

I'm leaning towards the 81+, 83+ and 84+ packs and then dumping them into Cantona.

That 84+ pack would likely pay for Coutinho itself and has the chance of a TOTS in there. All of those Icons are very desirable too.

Edit: Went into some Rivals to start knocking those off and I lose my first match 2-1. My opponent had 3 shots total, 1 of which was on target... I turned it off after that.

Edit: Some of that went into Cantona's 88 with 2 IF segment and out popped a TOTS Fekir from the pack plus Harry Kane. Tradeable too so Fekir will be sold and Kane will go into another segment.

I've now packed 9 of the 15 La Liga TOTS players. Just missing Messi, Benzema, Suarez, De Jong, Casemiro and Varane.

Futbin says I have 1.72m left towards Cantona now. I still haven't sold Puskas (I'm hoping he rises to 1.6m for WL, if he does I'll use him this week probably and then sell him), I'll also have around 500k when Fekir sells although I want to buy TOTS Ruben Dias.

It seems the La Liga TOTS are hiding from me this week. I've opened both picks, both 85 x 5 packs, the 84 x 20 and the 83 x 25 packs. The only La Liga TOTS in any of them was Kounde who iss pretty useless for me. Still it got me Coutinho completed and I've got Big Willy from objectives in my team.

Did the guarantee and it was Navas, also pretty useless. My 2nd player pick did have Moreno in it, but I took Ter Stegen in case of anything big later. I've also done quite a few 80+ picks to exactly nothing back. A bit deflating.

I've got rewards for this week to come and I'll churn the ultimate packs into more picks. Vazquez is the one card I need to finish my team for this year now. He looks nuts. I'm not sure how much longer the grind carries on but we'll see. I may get lucky and get a card that makes me want to use it a lot.

Rewards were interesting to say the least. Kicked off with the reds. First pick gave me a choice of Oblak, Navas, Davidson and some no mark. I already have Navas from the guarantee so I took Oblak. The next pick had Llorente and 3 Turks, so I took the Spaniard.

Onto the packs and in one of the tradeable packs I got a flare I've never seen before from a walkout. People who have followed me over my FIFA journey may know I have something of a "bucket list." Packing the likes of Messi, CR7, Mbappe etc have all been done. Even TOTY twice(both Ramos) but never an Icon. Well that changed today:

One of the worst ones going, but it's one ticked off the list. Sold for 210k. This pushed me very close to the price of Vazquez and I managed to get one. Fresh for 310k. That should be my team sorted for the rest of the game now.

I'll try and get that 81 x 25 open for the end of the La Liga TOTS. Not expecting anything in it, but it's the last real chance of a TOTS.

Bought Ruben Dias for 320k to replace Cannavaro who has been getting progressively worse the last few weeks. He's been struggling to keep up with the faster attackers and he keeps giving away penalties when I use him to put pressure on an attacker.

Dias fits in like a glove chem wise and I'm hoping he brings what my team is missing.

Right, so it's been a few weeks since an update from my end. I've grinded A LOT as my time on FIFA, and gaming in general, will drop over the next few months, and my luck has actually been in regarding packs. My team for this WL is probably one of the best I've ever had, last year's Summer Heat side notwithstanding.

Over the past couple of weeks I got TOTS Soucek and Gundogan, with Ederson and Shaw as my Prem red picks, and Bailey as my community red pick. I also packed UCL Messi and Neymar, for a 3rd time this year.

But this week the content has been utterly insane. For Icon Swaps I think I'm going for PIM Basti and PIM Stoichkov, with the 81 and 84 packs on top, if I can be bothered to grind each and every token. I know it's probably not particularly meta but it'll be nice to try them both out. I've managed to pack Lucas Vazquez, Moreno and Marcos Llorente, as well as 97 Benzema from the guaranteed TOTS pack, and my red pick, from Silver 1, gave me 94 Frenkie. :drool: Just the 1.5m coins of value there.

Obviously with Correa completed a couple of weeks ago, and Isak completed last night, this has meant my side is now basically completely La Liga. It genuinely felt a little unfair loading into the mode for Isak with the team I had - I wouldn't need to play well and I'd still end up battering the opponent.

I also completed Showdown Rodrygo last week (who is now upgraded to 90), and the decision I now have to make is whether to use my fodder up on Flashback Pique and Coutinho, or save it for the inevitable Bundesliga and Serie A SBCs that will tempt me.

Interestingly, I also managed to pack TOTS Aboubakar out of a Rare Silver Players Pack. First time I've managed to get a TOTS out of a bronze or silver pack so that was a nice surprise.

Team-wise I'm considering picking up PIM Beckham and Mid Cantona. Feel like I want to give me team a more Utd flavour and think I can make them work in a narrow diamond with Essien/Sanches and then Eric/Neymar/Mbappe up top. Need to raise about 200k to get there but my club is pretty much drained at the moment so I'll have to bide my time a bit.

Caulker actually isn't too bad in game! It's a question of do I want a little less pace with Pique, but the bonus of truly end-game defensive stats. Alternatively I might try the 89 William Carvalho at CB instead.

Yeah, I forgot to apply any during the games for Isak! Having said that, I might keep a couple of the midfielders on Basic for WL, it applies quite a nice balanced boost.

POTM Lingard is perfect for some more Utd flavour for yourself.... he actually looks pretty good for his rating!

I was watching Boras' latest video and he came up with a quite cool solution to working in a few of the La Liga guys, though he has the same back line options as I do in the club.
I currently have a tradeable Dias and Cancelo to hand which at present is 700k worth. I could continue with that or move over to this:

It'd be a 4-2-2-2 mostly in game. I'd have Carvalho as a CB and Llorente as a CDM or whichever way around worked better. It does give me some wiggle room in case I did pack a Bundesliga TOTS too.

I used to just score 5 and then band and the AI would score 2 max but the last few days they've been getting 4 or more and I usually have to pick the controller back up.

I havent been able to get them to work for a while but that one worked for me just now.

I have been doing the same as Mahow. Score 5 and put the controller down while I work. I had to get back on and score a few more multiple times when doing the Eredivisie silvers though. I put it down to the team being tragic but maybe they did tweak something

Puskas is absolutely worth it.

He's incredibly nimble and feels very good on the ball plus his shooting is outrageous.

Obvious negatives are his height (less so if you don't use any crosses) and his weak foot, although because he has the outside foot trait he will use his the outside of his left for a shot most of the time he would normally use his right which negates the weak foot slightly.

Yashin, god no. Capita is a bit meh having done Zambrotta already. Gerrard... depends how much. His market value is 500k atm so if he's 400-500k I'll have to seriously think about it. If he's somehow closer to 300 then he's in the team ASAP for reasons I'll go into now.

Got Tapsoba done for free. Despite not getting a La Liga TOTS in those 80+ upgrades I gained fodder. The only big card used was Red Soucek. He's cheap to pick back up if really needed. The card is just too good not to do.

Unfortunately it's left the middle of the team a bit disjointed in the meantime. I'm playing Llorente as the CDM but then Nkunku as the other one who gets forwards on 7 chem and it's not been great. I'm 8-3 through it. I tend to get Sanches off the bench and switch Llorente over and that's working a bit better.

Vazquez I've loved. He's also really handy to have as he can play anywhere that isn't CB.

I did also bring in TOTS Neuer, but after 8 games sold him back for no loss. He just felt the same as his regular gold. So I now have 535k on me to spend on Bundesliga TOTS.
I'm now at the point where my Bundesliga team is amazing minus strikers. Huntelaar is decent but I've no one to support him that I like. My forwards come from La Liga instead. I've flip flopped between the two as those were the most stacked in my club. My Ligue 1 and Serie A are not near either of these so I'll ease off once they drop.

17 wins would be ideal. Going 9-10 from here would be alright with me. Probably not getting Rank 1 in Rivals now mind you.

I'm now considering going back to Bundesliga for my defence. That Lazaro SBC looks great and means I could move Bender to CB and then focus on bringing in TOTY Davies, who I've wanted to try for ages.

The Squad Battles objective player is pretty good too btw.

You could well bring in Davies' TOTS over his TOTY. Yes the latter is better but he's currently about double the cost. I don't think the difference would be too noticeable.

He's now in my range, but would fuck chemistry too much to bring in I think.

Got myself to 15-5 and it's time for a break. I was 10-5 at one point and was worried but after nicking a game at the end in my last one, it's looking healthier. Nkunku has dropped out and instead I've played Carvalho on 7 chem. Things seem much more steady now Llorente is the attacking CDM. He's actually extremely good in this role.

I'll pick it up after the kids bed time, but 2 wins from 10 should be manageable as long as a mega collapse doesn't happen.

I've only played that new Lazaro card once, but the guy had 7 five star skillers in his team and that's all he was interested in going. I finished the game with 35% possession but won 5-0.

I'm now interested to see what 6pm brings. Surely they're not leaving Waman out completely?

Also, I quite like Rodri at LCM in a 4-1-2-1-2. I was struggling with Sanches this weekend as he and Vazquez are small and can get dominated and Sanches seemed to break up a lot of my attacks with sloppy passes. Rodri fixes that although he is a little slower but I don't mind that right now.

Completely gutted the club last nigh, leaving 270 special cards, managers and some stadium stuff. Everything else went, raising over 900k and doing Tapsoba and Gerrard in the process. Also packed TOTS Davies from the Bundes pick.

4,000 coins were set aside for bronze packs and having opened them a team of awful joins Steven Gerrard (our captain, inspiration and heart beat) in the first team squad.

Rousillon will be a step too far but I should be able to do Amiri over the next few days and maybe Corona if I can pack the required players. It's squad battles, so anyone will do if they fit the criteria, even bronzes. Quite enjoying this so far and ultimately I'd like to take whatever team I can cobble together over the next few days/couple of weeks into Weekend league.

I managed to tick off the rest of the battles games for those 2 while popping in and out of the stream. I didn't realise that Corona had a 5* WF. With a deadeye on he becomes a very tasty forward across the line.

Now comes a decision time. I've got what will be 600k by the time rewards come, without any meaningful pull. If I get a red Neuer that's up to 650. I'd like to get Lazaro and Waman done at least with a look towards the next few releases. I have a sneaky feeling we may well get a flashback Quaresma and an End of an Era card for Piszczek.

Problem is I have no real fodder in the club after it went into Tapsoba. Now I could well use the 600k to plough that into the SBCs instead but surely there's a better way?
Sense says putting stuff into the 81+ picks is probably the way, but rare gold cards are now 1.3k a pop. Non-rares 650-700 coins too. That's not really a lot to go at. Am I missing something that I should be doing?

I was looking at Rousillion and while the mode you do it in requires 11 Bundesliga players, it doesn't mention player requirements for the actual objectives. So, can I start with 11 Bundesliga players (I can get these from doing one of the upgrade packs) and then bring on players from anywhere off the bench to complete it?

If so, I could have 3 cracking players (and Stevie G) in the first 11 come Friday evening.

Toiled away at rivals this morning in what was a win one, lose one kind of day. Only managed 5 goals and a win once unfortunately. Though in my last game I was 3-2 up and in on goal as my opponent hacked me down in the 89th minute. He quit before I could take the penalty. I now sit just 210 points above the threshold in Rank 1, those 90 rivals points could well make the difference.

After that I rolled some crap into my Bundesliga TOTS guarantee. I got the right nation and club, just didn't want yet another keeper. As it happens this one is actually useful as I was using his base gold. I do expect to see him Red tomorrow though, so this could be a let down. It's just not exciting to see a keeper is it?

Probably the biggest rewards day in terms of my team and it kind of fell flat. Red picks are a pain in my ass and the run of nothing really good from them continues.

I got 1 Bundesliga offering in each and that was it. One was Hummels and the other Neuer. Both useless to me for different reasons. Luckily it was a little bit saved as the 2 best Liga NOS players were there. Gonclaves and Otavio were my red picks.

I got decent amount of walkouts from the packs, but only 1 TOTS and that was Baku. That German flag is a killer. Managed to complete Bellingham only having to buy a Trippier for chemistry purposes.

Burned the rest through 81+ picks and got back another TOTS Baku and TOTS Coates.

I now have 650k on hand and I'm not sure what to do now. I could buy 2 or 3 of the Bundesliga TOTS. Muller with an Engine looks like a must. Though I do also want Davies and if possible to bring Reus back into my team. At this point I'm willing to drop Messi and Coutinho to the bench to do it. Just for the sake of trying new cards. I'd even love a team that could work in Gonclaves and Otavio as they look crazy.

Lazaro is genuinely amazing. Put him up top in the Roussillon objective mode and he scored pretty much every goal. Outshone all of my Bundesliga strikers.

Best moment was him nodding in at the back post (from a cross from my LB) with the last touch of the game, sealing a 4-3 win with his 4th goal. :drool:

Along with Lazaro, I've just completed the Tapsoba SBC (he's too good not to) and that's left me with a bit of a dilemma for the team for WL. Also, I played with Lozano a bit in SB for Caicedo and he's going to be a real problem online. He feels faster than any other 99 speed player I've used and his shooting is brilliant. I was messing about with the directional nutmegs (these have to be nerfed to fuck next year) against the AI and I'm not good at them but he was gone every time.

If you come up against one of those pricks in Rivals or WL that spams the nutmegs and/or through balls it's going to be hell.

I'm thinking of holding out now before buying anyone or even not playing WL at all. There's a trend of cards from the recently left TOTS going up over that weekend as it's most peoples first chance of trying them out, then they tend to sell to use the shiny new teams cards the next week.

Aside from Zambrotta I have a full Bundesliga side, so Serie A cards would be for my bench only really.

I have Kimmich TOTS/Y, Muller and Coman on my shopping list.
With only 900k to hand for now it wont be so easy, but there's also the Icon market. Prime Henry is there as well as the mid/baby Puskas. Of the other big time strikers, PIM Stoichkov is available there, however the 2 big ones I'd really want in PIM Torres and TOTY Lewa are sat at 1.2m.

I still haven't yet spent. I'm torn 3 ways.

1) TOTS Muller, TOTS Coman, TOTS Sabitzer and TOTS Vazquez. This is ever so slightly out of my range, but if I were patient with price flux, it could be done.
2) TOTS/Y Kimmich(whichever is cheaper), TOTS Sabitzer and Birthday Jovic.
3) An Icon striker + TOTS Sabitzer. I've looked at a few here but the main options would be baby/mid Puskas, PIM Stoichkov, PIM Sanchez, Prime Henry.

I could even refine the Icon and add in one of the others from option 1, if I were to drop the Icon down a price point. Players like PIM Raul, baby/mid Cantona, PIM Socrates or PIM Crespo also come up here.

In reality I'd love a big version of Lewandowski, but there's his 94 IF and then you just get his TOTY. Something in the middle would be perfect, but doesn't look like happening.

It's a shame they've upped the requirements for the player picks this week. Obviously through recycling the league SBCs you're bound to end up with some untradeable duplicates, and I was lucky enough to get 2 TOTS from the first 3 picks I did - Donnarumma and Cuadrado.

I've also packed 3 CSL TOTS since they released yesterday - the Polish CAM, and the Zambian and Bosnian CBs.

The extension to WL allowed me to get my best record to date on FIFA 21 - ended up 14-5 and decided against pushing for 17 wins as it was late. I started out 0-2, then shifted my tactics to a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 in game, with Coutinho and Benzema up top, and Pique holding in CDM. It worked pretty well and I was playing some good FIFA, winning some really close games and controlling the match when ahead. It helps having TOTS de Jong in the middle - he is probably the best player I've used in any FUT.

The narrow diamond has probably been my #1 formation this year. Seems to offer a good balance and you can still get the width from the fullbacks.

Tried out Fellaini in a couple of the Squad Battles games for Anthony. He's a bit of a beast but doesn't quite feel as quick as his stats suggest. I have a Shadow on him so maybe it's more an Agility thing. Can tell he'd be a nightmare to play against though and is obviously a menace at corners.

Just played a Rivals match and I had been in awful form yesterday. I was using Shaw at LB with Rodri and then William Carvalho at CB and they just weren't working.

Doing Fred means Shaw can move back into the middle (where he's at his best), Davies can stay in CM and Fred can be a marauding LB and it worked well.

I won 7-3 in my first game (first was a kick off goal, second a penalty and his third was when I was 6-2 up and he was on constant pressure) and had more possession than I was seeing in games yesterday.

Decent set of rewards this week.

Started off with reds of Romero, who is a bit meh, but at least it was a Serie A offering. Followed up by Muriel. The rest of the picks were all CSL shitters. Still, Muriel at the least makes the bench. Just a shame his nation makes it hard to get him up top.

I moved onto the packs and in my first one I got... TOTS Muriel untradeable. FIFA does enjoy kicking you at times. I got a walkout in most packs. Oblak was packed as was the Greek TOTS ST and a Chinese LB.

I decided to churn the stuff through upgrades and put it into the 84+. I've ended up packing my first Mbappe of the year. Unfortunately the only special on offer was IF Gnabry. Annoyingly that Mbappe comes about 24 hours too early. But still I can't grumble.

From here I'm not sure. Of the Icons on offer right now there's only really Essien that's of any kind of threat of being a first teamer for me. Cantona would too but I don't have nearly enough.
I also need to decide on Nianggolan and Lozano. Both look nuts and I can afford one at least, but is there really a need? As pointed out in here the other day, Barella is a very similar card. The Antony card on offer also compares quite well to Lozano. Both would also likely be bench candidates anyway and I'm not exactly short of options there.

I've still to get that Puskas from swaps when they come back around, but this is it for now. I've about 200k to hand. If I sold back the 4 guys I brought in during the week I'd be up to about 1m. Unfortunately that's still just a little shy of the big time players that I'd love to try.

I'm the absence of content tonight I looked at my team again. Despite saying I was done as above, I noted that output wise, there was no real difference between Muller/Coman and when I had Messi/Coutinho. Actually the latter performed better. Considering that means I'm sat on near 600k of no real difference, I sold up.

I now sit just under 1m. Given I've no objectives to do, I'm holding until Ligue 1 TOTS arrives. If we get something that fits in, I'll look at picking that up, but if not then I'll bring in an Icon. I'm currently looking at the 92 Puskas or PIM Stoichkov. I look at those 2 specifically as they are the swap offerings and I'd be keep to try before I buy, assuming I'm still going at that stage.

It's a shame the Icons have all dried up too. I wouldn't mind completing one to put in, but they're either too expensive or too crap.

So they forgot to release Aouar at 6 despite finding him in concepts at the time. When he did come out you had a few minutes window where he could be completed for just 22 random cards. They forgot to put requirements on him.

I've had all variations of him so far and given the generous chemistry requirements they've left, I reckon the trend will continue. I'll likely end up submitting his birthday card into this one. I compared the two and he is an upgrade in every singe stat. The only thing is you lose the 5* weak foot.

There seems to be a direct split in the price of this team. To the point I could see the guarantee being only an 85 rated. Though you know you aren't getting the two guys you want.

Strange that we still have no moments player for battles in Ligue 1. I said on the Discord last night that I believe the mix of TOTS involvment has been intentional from EA.
I think they've seen people will just pick dull EPL teams on the whole with the exceptions being for Ronaldo and the PSG pair, so they've looked to change that. They've shone a light on two lesser loved leagues as they know people will gravitate to the others anyway.

I reckon this will be a slow week too. Though it is Ultimate TOTS next week so I've no idea what they'll do for that. We're about to hit June so content and engagement could both go off a cliff.

I was 4-0 to start WL but I've since lost my next 3.

There is so much lag that it's unplayable. My last loss was against a guy who was a worse player than me and 95% of his attacks were the exact same, punt it to Neres/Alessandrini, cut inside and then play a cut back.

I was 5-2 up at one point but he kept slamming it forward whenever he had it and I kept getting massive lag spikes. I ended up losing 7-5 in ET and 6 of his goals were due to spikes.

Not sure what to do, I really wanted to hit 14 and hope to get a big red but this is mental. I'm getting a lag spike every 30-45 seconds to start match and usually by the second half it goes down to 2 to 4 in the second half but the last match was 30 seconds throughout. My ping looks stable before the match and I'd usually get 1-5 spikes throughout a whole WL.

And I'm done at 11-9 which is a shit record and my worst in a while but my connection to the servers was absolute horseshit this weekend and I was constantly getting pause/speed up lag throughout and in a couple of games I had severe button/input delay.

Shame really as I was playing some nice FIFA and my team feels really balanced right now so I'd have loved to have seen my accurate record (and I'd have pushed to 14).

Also, Cantona has been very good for me but this weekend he took a massive step up. He was absolutely incredible and his record is now 60 goals and 23 assists in 54 games, all of which are WL/Rivals. His left foot also feels like it's his natural foot, the 4* WF rating is a lie.

I did leave the weekend league at 5-1 on Sunday. I just didn't have motivation. Though thommo said to me I should probably make it 6 at least to get 1 red pick in. I found myself up at 3am so I thought screw it and went for it. I scored early in that game and the guy instantly quit. So I kept going and before you know it, I was 14-3. My eyes had gone by then though so I stopped.

Skip to today and got Yilmaz in between 2 crap ROW options as my first red, then Di Maria as my 2nd. Double good news for me as I was considering selling my Alessandrini back anyway. Cut to my surprise when I did though. I bought him on Friday for 225k, sold him today for bang on 300. I also replaced him for "free" too.

My birthday Aouar has gone into the TOTS version, meaning I've now owned all versions of him through the game. The team now pretty much splits the 4-5-1 in half. The back is Bundesliga and the front is Ligue 1.
Though now the CM spot in there is not filled. The good part is that I've now broken the 1m barrier for the first time, so I'm right on the doorstep of some great Icons I could put there. Probably just a smidge off.

From the packs I got 2 fraud walkouts in UCL players, but then I ended up with the Swedish TOTS RB and TOTS Fonte from resulting Ligue 1 upgrades. After that I put the non-rares into the player picks and got back TOTS Espinoza and then... another Fonte. That's called a halt to my progress though as I've nothing I want to put him into.

Raoul Duke I've been looking at that Prime Cantona too. He'd be the exact kind of striker that would bully your full back at CB meta. He's probably a week or so out of my price range however. 1.2ish seems to be the going rate for now. If I had the resources I'd consider his PIM SBC, but I just dont.

Also they updated the WL red pick situation. For this weekend, Gold 3(14 wins) gets you your two x 3 player picks, but they'll be a mix of Ultimate, ROW and MLS TOTS. Gold 2+ knocks it up to 4 in each pick as normal, but you get 1 guaranteed pick that is Ultimate TOTS. I suspect they'll sneak a high rated shitter like Hummels or 2 goalkeepers in to cover this off, but it is what it is.
