Played some Rivals tonight for the score and didn't quite realise how close I was to promotion. Ended up getting my points and promotion sorted and I got 50k coins as a result.

I'm now on 90k. I'll take the 75k from Rivals and then the resulting 30k from champs should see those packs tip me over 200k. An 84 or two would see me able to do it without having to chuck a big untradeable card in there.

You could do it at any time but you pass back to the keeper and when the ball gets to him tap x and pass to the side. He would kick the ball a few yards into space, follow it and freeze. The AI would be stuck behind an invisible wall and never press.

One thing I did notice in my division games last night was a lot of crossing, but mainly the prevalence of the 5 at the back formations. Most made mistakes to allow me to score, but I remember one guy in particular was very good at defending and it made the game absolute hell.

My answer to my earlier conundrum was to leave Dybala. He looks a great card, but I have a lot of nifty attackers as is. I'm also sure we wont be short of any via SBC or whatnot soon.

Literally within 4 days we have Rooney who is just better than him in every single way.

Affording him may be tough but I do want to do this card. Just under 3 weeks to try and raise coins for it. That said we don't yet know what Future Stars will bring.

It does throw into question my plans going forward. Assuming I finish Fabio this Friday, my defence is sorted bar a LB. Probably until TOTS. My attack is decent, but with Ronny/Felix there it becomes very good. Only really the likes of Neymar, Icons or upgraded versions of Rashford type cards would get in there now. The only question mark is my CDM/CM position.

Wijnaldum is coming to the end of his usable life really, but linking a successor is currently tricky. Aouar is also pretty good, but not irreplaceable.

My plan was going to be to take a leaf out of Yevs book. Save all packs and coins from now until TOTS. I'm not overly sure how I'd get on with that. There's always the chance of red player picks coming into the team I guess. But the plan was to be to just save so when TOTS does hit I can maybe but a few or pack a few of them. It also stands to reason that by then the top Icons(or at least better) will be available via SBC, so rinsing the upgrades into fodder would help a lot.

The problem with saving for TOTS is that the game is near the end of it's cycle by then. I'd only really do it (at least seriously) if you're not planning on getting 22 for a bit.

This is the main problem - Rooney looks good but also a) I don't think his card will play that well in-game, b) he's not massively better than what I already have c) there will be someone along in a few days who'll be just as good. If I can skip a few SBCs for a month or so then I should be able to raise a decent amount of coin to pick up someone who can actually improve the team substantially.

It’s a cycle I need to break too. Dybala is great example. He’s a good looking card to have, then there’s been another in the same position a few days later. 200k a time.

It’s not too hard to get 200k if you play a decent amount so you do it. A week or two later you’re back in the same position when another new card comes out.

I’ve already done 3 or 4 like this. I could instead be looking at a Neymar or decent Icon for my team instead by now.

Just had a horror show in one nation (still have England wins). I was 4-0 up and cruising, he was barely in the match.

Suddenly he grabs two quick goals and Gerrard is sent off for a laughable second booking. From there it's back and forth and I miss a few chances. He then grabs two in injury time (the second was my fault as I could have just smashed it down the field and the game would have been done) to send it to extra time.

He then makes it 5-4 but I turn it around and make it 6-5 but again we concede late and he ends up winning in injury time.

I can't believe I lost a match that I was 4-0 up and easily beating a guy until suddenly in the 70th minute EVERYTHING starts going right for him.

I suspect the pack weight will be heavily skewed now, but a lot of those have base common golds so should be able to be got in the packs with a lot of those.

Having used him for around 10 games now, he's very non-meta. Outstanding finisher but not much else going on for him. I've got a feeling Rooney would be the same.

Conversely, the Icons I picked up are rising up quite nicely as people cash out buy their teams.

I hate penalty shootouts.

I was winning 1-0 and dominating a guy but he grabs an equaliser and then scores in the 88th minute from a bullshit penalty. I then win a freekick on the edge of the box which Bruno puts in over the head of a defender he's put on the line. Bruno is by far the best free kick taker I've used on the game and he seems to be able to fit it into tight windows.

I then make it 3-2 but unlike the first 70 minutes he's now fully in the game and he ends up getting an equaliser in the 110th minute and he obviously takes it on penalties.

I had around 45% possession (which is huge for me as I'm usually 30%) and 12 shots on target to his 6 of which most of them would have been late on.

Been rejigging the team as I can't get on with Lewandowski - will need to sacrifice Koeman but I can build this (https://www.futbin.com/21/squad/5966687). Sadly will mean I miss out on Rooney.

Ended up playing to 11-6 last night. Could have maybe gone on, but the Superbowl took priority.

Dybala was utterly insane, it must be said. 30 goals and 15 assists in 17 games, including 2 free-kicks scored in the last game. Up to 22 scored according to the milestones, so I feel like I've really got the hang of them now.

After the WL run, I went through and did a few Player Picks, and managed to get FS Reece James in the 2nd one. Card does look bonkers, but I wish he was tradeable considering he's coming in at 425k right now, and I have Tav, Klaiber, Cancelo and Ansaldi who can all play at RB. He's my best pull of the year so far though!

Ended up going from 9-1 to 14-4.

Those 8 games featured 5 against a 5 at the back formation and christ it's annoying. I couldn't get a clear few goals ahead and as such each game was won or lost by 1 goal.
I did have 2 pieces of good fortune in that run though. I matched up against a full bronze team, who let me score and immediately quit. Then the match after I faced a guy who got the quickest FUT red card I've ever seen. I started with the ball and played it up to Ronaldo. Saw the defender coming with pressure so hit L2 to shield just as he launched a slide tackle. It ended up going through the back of him and he was down to 10 men, 2 mins in.

I'll get cracking on a last objectives push tonight to see if I can get near level 30(I don't think I'll get there).

He’s pretty decent. Definitely got a Vieira-ness to him. Had my first 4 rivals games (D3, c 1600) with the team and I like it. W3 L1 so far, so hopefully can make my way into FUT Champs soon to wrack up the necessary packs ahead of TOTS.

Added Marquinhos (89) and Kimpembe (84) to fit Camavinga in. Stuck with Lopes (83) in goal but will replace with Navas (89) once I get the chance.

Biggest issue at the moment is Vardy. His passing is so piss poor, but I need him and Barnes for the perfect link. The latter is cracking too. So, tempted by an English Icon or working my way up to the Record Breaker Vardy to Chuck a catalyst on.

No level 30 for me either. I've got to about level 28 in both of my full seasons now. I just never end up doing the squad battles stuff as I find it a bit more boring.

Also the rewards in Division 1 are crap unless you get Rank 1. I'll be on tonight to finish off Tonali(just the goals left) and then hope next season kicks it up a notch or two. I'm not 100% we'll get new Icon swaps on Friday but it we do I'd like to see something better. The 4 players we were given the choice of were pretty meh in all honesty. Even if you have to make the top one harder to get, make it worth getting.

From here I think I need to work on getting a good CDM into my team. Tonali would be good to get in, but is hard to link. That Bruno card looks out of my reach in the time so another option is needed. The easiest thing here to get would be an Icon, though an actual top end one would be a while away. Gattuso looks about right, but his passing is terrible and is a little slow, but he has the right defensive stats and WRs. This is assuming we don't get a good set of FS players in team 2.

As I suspected no Icon swaps straight away. They're a more "stuff for free" promo so they like to toot their own horn when that comes around. I reckon we've got a couple of weeks before they come in.

The new season looks better, for someone with a more empty club like me. That 85 Sensei looks a great card and that Dembele has FIFA 17 vibes all over him. The level 30 picks also look great for once. That De Sciglio could play anywhere across the defence or midfield.

I also like the upgradeable player, but I don't like that most of his upgrades must be done in MM. That modes toxicity is about to go up a notch.

Before the season ended I was rolling things into the 81+ upgrades and got a few great things back including a Kimmich. Thanks to the low chem requirement on the Bruno Guimares higher end squad I was able to do it with stuff from the club and then spend what I had left on the 84 squad to just get him completed. I just need to fiddle the chemistry about a bit and get him in.
I have been using Goretzka as my CDM, but turning him into that squad I realised he's not H/H like I thought all along, so having a set proper CDM might help a lot.

I do miss the overlapping runs from Tavernier (I scored so many with him in the 3-5-2) but it does seem very effective.

I did want to try and stay away from the formation it is something I usually use and because I thought the 3-5-2 was very fun but I had been struggling with it since the latest patch.

Been getting through the Reinier objectives - I think now might be the best time to go for it as a) people have generally been pretty nice (letting you score with the 82 or have the win if you've got the 85). The later you leave it the less likely that'll be. Two wins to go and then I just need the goals/games.

Played some guy earlier who I was letting through to score and he scored with some non-Reinier player. Ended up beating him 10-2 as punishment :D

Why is it that this game really only does extremes?

Before the ref would be really shit at letting a final attack in and now they're far too lenient.

I was winning 3-2 in extra time and 1 minute was added on. I got the ball and played it down the line thinking it would call the attack as done and thus the match. No, my opponent picked it up drove forward, my defence parts like the red sea he takes a bad touch in the box and the AI gives a penalty.

90 seconds after the whistle was meant to be blown he sends it to a shootout.

Thankfully I won 4-2 but they seem to play on for at least double the amount stated every single game.

I didnt realize that it would count the games with the lower ones towards the "Play 25 with Reinier in your squad". On reflection I should have figured it out but I just assumed it said 85 version. That means I should only have to play another 18 games with him starting, assuming I can do the other objectives (which I imagine I will be able to).

I would be even further along if I didnt use his 78 as a sub when doing the objectives in SBs so I could make sure I kept plugging away at the silver milestones.

I had a terrible run last night. I’d decided when I submitted that I’d want 17 wins this weekend but went into Sunday only 4-0.

This is when I figured out two things. Firstly, the 5-3-2 is a right bastard and secondly, if the Mrs watches Netflix while I’m playing, only pain awaits. But I didn’t have the early hours so I had to soldier on.

I lost 2 penalty shootouts and 3 games in extra time. It was vile to lose close game after close game.

Still I ended on an okay 17-11. My worst weekend for a while and it may prompt me to take a weekend off while I figure this 5-3-2 bollocks out. It just seemed to decimate me on the counter.

Feel in a bit of a rut with this for now. It's in all likelihood not been that long since I packed something decent, but it feels like it. After a few weeks of juggling I've just got the squad into a good chemistry position.

Though now I want shiny and new. The way my team is set, Neymar and Mbappe are the 2 next logical steps, but they're at least 700k more than I have now. This is how I get drawn into doing shiny SBCs and I'm again looking at El Shaarawy or Jones to be done to come in and be a nice shiny new player.

If I'm honest, it'll likely take 6 weeks of no pack luck before I'm in the ball park of even just Neymar now. It feels quite frustrating to have almost hit the ceiling. Icon swaps would be lovely about now.

I'll aim to do the Championship ones whilst working on the Fofana in the near future. Jonathan dos Santos was an utter beast in the MLS MM games I played. I won 14 out of the 15 I played with the squad, he was just too good. Makes me want to try him out more seriously in Rivals and WL.

I've also got up to the 84 Cucurella, and earned myself Rank 3 Rivals rewards in the process. I took untradeable, and managed to pack 86 IF Marcos Llorente! His card looks pretty incredible, and he will slot straight into the La Liga team, and probably on the bench for WL. 2 packs later, another walkout flashes up, another IF.....another Marcos Llorente. 270k worth of duplicate that I ended up submitting into Michael Owen. Just the one segment to go now, and I might just buy a couple players and get it done tonight.

It will leave me with a real wealth of options for this weekend, to the point that I genuinely don't know my best XI.

They've fucked this big time for me personally.

My disdain for the Baggio card was noted before hand. This moments one actually looks half decent, until you realise they've stuck him with 76 fucking stamina. AND he's 17 tokens, so he wont be in the club til April. Yikes.

Butragueno is just pointless. Everyone has either CR7 or Mbappe of some description up front now and it's only his baby card for FIFTEEN tokens for fucks sake. Make it at the least his mid card.

Overmars is an option but again you're waiting to put him in. He has some issues too such as his shit passing and 3* skills.

Blanc is off the table for me. I have Cannavaro and Boateng who are both untradeable and at least as good anyway.

Cole is a decent left back in a game that only has about 4, so he is very tempting here. As said though he isn't amazing, just good.

Deco oddly(and tellingly) looks like the one I'd want of the player picks. He'd very much help link CR7 and Felix into my team a hell of a lot easier. Is a Moments card. Looks good fun and easy to get.

For the first time I'm looking towards one of the Icon packs but I'm not sure I could cope with the time put in to get Moments Inzaghi.

The crux of the issue with the rewards for icon swaps, which has been the way since they brought them back is that anyone who can spend the time on the game it takes to get those players, will have already played it enough to have as good if not better players already.

This time is the most egregious example of that I can recall though.

Now see, I see Icon Swaps as your promo for the free to play guy or the guy who wants to play to earn and these are relatively shocking.

Deco seems good to me, as an intro to Prime Moments. He's had a big boost from his Prime. But it shows what they think of us when we're not buying packs.

This also shows how they value the cards. They value a 87 striker over a 91 rated midfielder because he's faster and has 5* WF. And they value him at over double the cost.

I'm not sure what combination of things I want yet, but I do know if I do the 83 x 25+ pack again there's a strong chance of getting Curtis Jones done.
