lol did they get the blacklist people to animate it? that looks awful and its running at about 6 frames per second.
The animation is beautiful, cretin.
It's a style where the animators trace over images of the real actors, it's one of the oldest forms of animation but modernised.

Is Sons of Anarchy worth starting?
Is Sons of Anarchy worth starting?
I watched it all as it aired and I would say, from memory, that roughly the first half (of its seven season run) is generally very good but it hits a certain point where it gets increasingly daft and convoluted. I was too far in by that point to give up on it though.
It's worth sticking with. It definitely drops but worth watching for the realistic depiction of Northern Ireland.
Currently watching Bosch, generally enjoyable cop drama.

I've mooted that a few times but never actually taken the plunge. I might bump it up "the list" now.
I'm in the midst of an X-files run-through at the moment. I got as far as the film years ago and stopped, and forgot what was going on completely so had to re-start. I'm about to finish season three. So only about ten thousand episodes left to go.

Started this today and on the fourth episode already, it's the happiest I've been in time.
I want to hear your ongoing opinion on Agent Doggett, Alex.
I want to hear your ongoing opinion on Agent Doggett, Alex.
When does he come in? I'm a while off yet, right?
It's reached that point at that moment where Scully's ongoing scepticism is getting a bit daft. She's seen more unexplainable phenomenon than you could shake a stick at now (not to mention actually being fucking abducted by aliens herself :D) and her default setting is still "oh, I don't know Mulder, there's a perfectly logical explanation.....". :D
It's also reached that point where it's increasingly becoming all about what an absolute lad Skinner is.
Season 8. And then it’s uphill from there.
Skinner is indeed an absolute lad. I proper love it. It does become a bit of a slog in parts though.
I only started rewatching it cos the new series was coming out and channel 5 was showing like ‘the 24 xfiles episodes you must watch’ so I watched the first two and then it suggested skipping a load, but I was enjoying it so just carried on through them all.
Episode 7 of season 9 is one of the best standalone episodes of any tv show ever, whether you’ve watched any others or even know who any of the characters are. I’ve rewatched it twice since I finished the whole lot.

I'm going for schitts as well. Let's go for it.
Discovery returning also is 🍆
Schitt's Creek is brilliant. It starts off a bit iffy and the characters all seem like unlikeable arseholes, but it's honestly fantastic once it gets into its groove.

Yeah, some of the "monster of the week" episodes are the best things about it. One of the better features of it as it's gone on too is they've started doing the occasional, flat-out comedy episode. Which led me to this absolute gem the other night:

Just watched the latest episode of The Boys:
Not a bad episode but again not much really moved on plot-wise, aside from the good guys getting shat on. I guess it's set up for a Maeve and Starlight vs Homelander and Stormfront end battle unless someone else pops up who's got some skillz.
The two key unanswered questions are:
- 1 who is doing the head exploding?
- 2 who is the miniature flying guy (may be the answer to the first question)?

The head exploding is surely that Cindy for the psych ward. I'm guessing she also killed Rayner on Stormfront's orders at the start of the season.
Although I didn't think Cindy was doing it that quickly in the ward.

The "Jersey Devil" episode! That initial drawing he gets really tickled me the first time I saw it. It's just hilarious how he instantly takes that as definitive proof of its existence. The second series of Umbrella isn't living up to the first.
Did you change your mind? I loved season two. I reckon it’s a better show than The Boys.
The Boys:
I also did not notice a small flying person.
I've enjoyed this season because the characters / actors are good but it has felt like it has a bit of a Game of Thrones season structure to it where they have points A and B but what's in between isn't really a season's worth of episodes so they just pad it out a bit.
Also hadn't spotted that Butcher's dad was Denethor in Lord of the Rings to Urban's Eomer so that was a nice touch. Or would've been had I recognised him.
Finished Humans, which ended in a good place I think. Definitely scope that they could've gone on with it and taken it further but equally it felt like a tied-up ending. Working my way through Ghosts now, which is excellent. Although Mary bothers me because witches weren't burned in this country and I feel like the entire cast of Horrible Histories should probably have picked up on that.

Netflix has changed their decision to give it a fourth season due to Covid.
That's a bit of a shame but it had been increasingly a bit meandering. Or may just focusing on the stuff I was less interested in. Though I didn't realise this was planned to be the final season until I saw a headline so that's a bit of a pisser.

Mulder's face when he opens his mouth and starts talking is absolutely amazing. :D
I love his over-exaggerated version of Scully as just leering too. And how he generally paints her as a miserable sceptic who bullies him a bit a bit, while he's all wide-eyed and earnest. Then in her version she is very level headed and accommodating and Mulder is total dick who just runs through the whole situation like a bull in a chain shop with his conspiracy theories. It's just a genuinely really funny piece of television.

I think I struggled to get into it at first because there were a hell of a lot of changes and I was constantly comparing them. However, around episode 3 I think it really started to shine.
One thing I loved was that it was so British. In the American one you have the "bad guys" operating quite openly (albeit with their shadiness hidden to the public) whereas in the British version "The Network" are incredibly secretive and hidden behind many companies with their fingers in many pies.
Not sure I like the actress who plays Jessica Hyde but she's still a hell of a lot better than the American one.

The colour is bloody incredible.
I'm almost through the Amazon one, and yeh... it's very meh. I think what's most disappointing is the characters feeling more hackneyed - Wilson (increasingly, having started fine) and Hyde are fucking interminable and it doesn't engender any kind of empathy, as flawed as the characters always were.
I've been flirting with Vikings for a while and it's finally picked up enough to hold my interest (season 402 ep 5). I've got a nice balance between that, Better Call Saul and Bosch for serious stuff and Schitt's Creek and Parks and Recreation for light relief.

Vikings was a bit hit and miss, anything with Ragnar in was good but the rest could be a bit crap. Until the very obvious point where it nosedives never to return.
Ivar is pretty good too, to be fair. Although a lot of the shit he manages to get up to as a crippled man in, like, 850AD or whatever is a bit ridiculous. But the Ragnar years were definitely the peak. I sort of tailed off with it somewhere in season five, I think.
Floki discovering his new "land of the Gods" and it being a bit shit is the last thing i can properly remember happening. The last full season I watched definitely ended with Ivar nailing one of the shit brothers with the axe for making fun of him and killing him. I think that was the end of season four?
The ageing of them all got a bit daft too. I appreciate it was necessary to move the story on and maintain some vague degree of historical accuracy but it got to the point where Lagertha just looked the same age as Bjorn despite being his mother, and whatnot.

My favourite "ridiculous Ivar moment" is when:
He's just sat on the floor during a battle (he's fallen out of his little chariot I think) and faces down at entire army by screaming about how they can't kill him because he's "Ivar the Boneless". And the entire army just stops in fear and listens to the screaming crippled man on the floor for about a minute, just long enough for a load of Vikins to to conveniently turn up and dick them. :D

I'd exhausted pretty much every option on Netflix so I decided to give The Staircase a go earlier this week. I had not bothered with it as it always gets chucked in with Making A Murderer which I didn't get on with, owing to the geezer clearly being a fucking scumbag.
Well I finished it last night and fuck me, I was wrong to leave it this long. I haven't been that invested in a show for a long time. Genuine butterflies in my stomach waiting for the verdict(s) to come in. I know it's an incredibly poorly kept secret but the US Justice Department is fucked. Watching him turn from a normal guy to an old man, missing all those family milestones, and still having to fight on was tough.
I'm going to give Making A Murderer another go now.

Love on the Spectrum is top tier tele.
New episode of Mandalorian is pretty decent. Bit surprised it didn't do a bit more main story arc for the first episode of a new season but I still enjoyed it well enough.
Episode 1 of Love on the Spectrum done. It's clearly quality entertainment (Michael :D) but fuck me it's a difficult watch I'm not sure I can endure. I didn't put in 3 decades worth of graft to fool myself into thinking I'm a normie only to let it all go to shit for this. Fuck COVID, autism is the real invisible enemy.
Baz
I'm into season six of the X-Files now. The film was ace, I loved it. Season six has been great so far too. It was a bit weird going from the blockbuster big-budget-ness of the film back to the television show format though, and the story just continuing on. It's also is a bit annoying that:
In the film Scully is just conveniently unconscious when a fucking alien spaceship takes off and flies right over them. :D
I've slowed down a bit because I'm now watching something made by the same guy called Millennium along side it, which is not really a spin-off but aired at the same time in the nineties and apparently one the episodes in season seven of the X-Files is a crossover with it. It's also really good.

Finished this tonight. Outstanding stuff. Best thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Season 4 of The Crown is out next week. Reviews are out, and the first two I've read have got completely opposite views on Gillian Anderson as Thatcher.
The Independant say she's "magnificant", while the BBC is pretty scathing.
But she flounders badly as the Iron Lady, a role in which she appears to have been directed to mimic the head movements of a turtle. She's forever craning her neck from side-to-side as if scanning for a tasty lettuce leaf, while over-egging her Thatcher impression to such an extent she is close to unwatchable at times.
I wonder which side I'll fall on.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Ted Lasso is alright. Nothing like the trailer. It's quite a heart-warming number, with a few proper lols. Crucially, easy to digest in one super sitting.

Whilst I thought "Midge" bombing was good to further the story I just found the scenes of her at parties doing those bits with the crap comic a bit shit and a real let-down. Luckily when Susie verbally slapped some sense into her it really got going again.

Couldn't get into Mandalorian when it was first out, but bingeing with a month free via Xbox, it's hooked me in this time around, definitely a grower.
The beginning of Ep 8, I think... Where the two stormtroopers are sat gassing for 5 minutes is excellent. Felt like the point where I realised I was really enjoying it, and it was genuinely a very, very decent show as opposed to just some additional canon for a franchise I'm very nostalgic about.
I'm still enjoying it a lot.
Today's episode:
While I assume she'll be back (otherwise you wouldn't cast Rosario Dawson) I'm glad it doesn't look to just be turning into a show about Ahsoka just because she's turned up and she's a Jedi. Also didn't expect to hear Thrawn's name. I've not actually read/seen any EU stuff with him in it but I'm aware of who he is so that feels like a big deal too. Maybe a sort of over-arching baddie for if/when Moff Gideon eventually meets his demise.
Decent episode though, I liked the sort of mix of Western and Japanese influence they had for the fights and the setting. I also did not recognise Michael Biehn.
Sir Andy Mahowry
28-11-2020, 01:15 AM
Good episode, however:
It's slightly lacking for me as I've never seen Clone Wars (is it good?) so Ahsoka means little to me although it was cool to see a Jedi fighting again and Thrawn means even less.
I've watched about a season and a half of the Clone Wars, 'How. It's not amazing (though I've been told it improves as it goes along) but it's moderately entertaining Star Wars fluff to stick on and the episodes are pretty short.
I would say that for people unaware of either Thrawn or Ahsoka that the Ahsoka stuff works way better in this because you seen her in action immediately so you don't need to rely on any backstory but I felt like the Thrawn namedrop would be a bit "....who?" if you were oblivious. if you haven't subsequently googled he was originally a character in a very popular series of the books, he's a blue alien lad who still manages to make it high up in the Imperial fleet despite them being a big ol' bunch of space racists and I think in the books after the Empire collapsed he was one trying to hold it all together, etc.

Mandalorian:
Good episode again this week. As Giggles said: Boba Fett. Nice to see him actually being good on-screen and not just in EU books/comics and fanboy dreams.
I was surprised they got to Tython that quick, I thought that was gonna be the point they were working toward for the next half a season or more so after a slow start to the season this felt like quite a lot of progress.
Random aside but does anybody here who watches the show give a fuck about the kid being called Grogu? I know the internet will have a cry about anything but that seems a weird one.
Taskmaster:
Katherine getting any points in the acting task is beyond a joke, nevermind two. Especially when Mawaan and his epic accents only got 2, and Daisy got 3.
Obviously it doesn’t really matter.
Very funny episode and a good series.

Random aside but does anybody here who watches the show give a fuck about the kid being called Grogu? I know the internet will have a cry about anything but that seems a weird one.
I like the name Grogu.
I can easily see 100 French bulldogs with that name in the new year
I'm closing in on the end of season seven of the X-Files and it's definitely been the weirdest season so far. It's like they've totally run out of stuff to do with the mythology arc (I feel like it's almost been non-existent this season) and instead filled it out with a series of increasingly bizarre, standalone episodes. Which isn't to say I'm not still enjoying it.
Get ready for the big Dog[gett].

I finished it off and watched the first episode of season eight last night, so he's here.
At first you’ll probably hate him and

But you’ll quickly realise he’s the best thing since Henry Weems.
:D
Henry Weems was great! That episode was a belter.
I've no idea whether this is the actual case or not, but it feels a bit like they planned to end it in season seven then just carried on? The season seven finale just felt like they were wrapping it up. They even went full circle and it tied back in to the very first episode.
The best bit about that finale was Smoking Man having throat cancer or something, and having a nurse who just holds the cigarettes to a hole in his neck and he smokes through that instead now. :D
Then Krycek shoved him down the stairs in his wheelchair and left him for dead. But I bet he's not, because he never is!
It's also funny how Krycek always returns in some ridiculous way too and makes a sinister entrance. He's ridiculous but I love him. And Mulder is always like "Krycek! You son of a bitch!" :D

The James May cooking thing is innocuous, vaguely entertaining rubbish.

I love it. Watched every video he’s done on cooking so far. Has absolutely zero except him but that’s enough.

I've watched a few and I can't tell if I like it or not.
It shouldn't work but in a weird way it does purely because of James May.
They really should make more of his Reassembler show though. That was incredible.

Moving on from Scat, it's a shame he doesn't make the BBC programs where he makes giant versions of kids toys anymore. They were great. But, on balance, having Richard Hammond nowhere near my TV has been worth it.
