I'm usually NZ TV's harshest critic, but Taskmaster NZ honestly wasn't bad. Guy Williams is a bit cringe (without meaning to be) as always, but generally some fun tasks.

You all need to be introduced to Leigh Hart as well.

Mare of East-town is about as good a limited series as I’ve ever seen. Winslett is fucking incredible. As believable a bunch of characters as I’ve seen on tv, well paced, couple of genuine shocks and the end twist that if you hadn’t worked out beforehand would make you quite the moron, but was still satisfyingly delivered.

It's really very very good. So well cast. Fuck ever going to prison.

I applied to be a Prison Guard (out of pure desperation) after Uni. I got all the way through to enrolment before a prison riot made the news along with some photos of a Guard that'd had his face carved up with some razor blades melted into a toothbrush handle.

Prison is nothing according to Young Offenders though, apparently. In prison most just want to keep their heads down and get home. In Young Offenders, every cunt thinks they're the next Charles Bronson.

Yeah, it follows you after too. A mate of mine did it for a few years, nice bloke. 6'4", played professional rugby including going over to play in Australia for a few years and was built to match. Years after he was on a night out and some former prisoners clocked him as an ex-screw and jumped him, he was hospitalised for a while. He says he still gets it now, 15 years after he left, ex-cons recognise him and tell him what they're up to now as if he gives a fuck.

It's weird, I saw an old Top Gear the other day from maybe the late 2000s, and even though it was by no means one of their 'controversial' episodes, it was just peppered with stuff that would never get through today - dead animals, loads of gay references, you drive like a woman, etc. Things have tightened up really very quickly.

10 years now seems like less time than 10 years when you were younger. The difference between society in 1990 and 2000 is considerable but seems much greater than 2010 to 2020 because we've been adults for all of the latter period.

Finished season five of The Expanse. Season three is the best one and it slopes downwards on either side. Overall a fairly enjoyable easy watcher despite the multiple flaws that I will outline in the spoilers. Some of the storylines are excellent and do a lot of heavy lifting.

Marco and Filip Inaros are two of the worst characters on television, and any scene involving them and Naomi borders on unwatchable. The four main characters are pretty rubbish. Naomi's "belter accent" is unbearable. Nobody ever dies. It could be trimmed down by about four episodes a season if they ditched some of the shit side quests.

Bobby/Avasarala/Drummer though.

I've had a dodgy box for years for about £70 a year and it's absolutely spot on. It's annoying that it's behind live TV by about 20 seconds but worth it for the quality.

Finished handsmaid last night. It's absolutely brutal but excellent. I think the 4th series is the weakest but let's see if they can close it out before they Walking Dead it.

I thought 4 was much better than 3, which had me considering giving it up.

I've also got a dodgy box. For huge events it can sometimes shit the bed, but that's probably once or twice per year max.

How would one procure such a 'dodgy box'?

I found a way to completely disable the TV plus on the TV all together. Has been going for a few weeks now and not came back. I'm in the UK running a ue55nu7100
Turn the TV off first.. On the remote press info then settings then mute then power, when the TV loads back up you should have a blue over lay menu at the left hand side.

Go to option, then "MRT Option" then in the list you will see "TV plus support" turn it off and reboot . Enjoy

Please don't mess about with any other settings in here I have no clue what they do. Hope it helps.Seems to have sorted it. Cheers.

Second tv arrived and all set up with Sky. Only irritation so far is it keeps asking me to agree to T&C's, which I can't do without an internet connection to the tv and I don't need or want one of those as I have Sky. Also fearful an internet connection may be a gateway to all that Rakuten shite, which is nowhere to be seen at the moment, thankfully.

I've been watching Clarkson's Farm. It's very good and the best thing he's done in years and years by a very wide margin.

I've also watched a couple of episodes of Living With Yourself and I'm not sure what to make of that. I'll give it a couple more. I feel like I'm not really sure what it is or wants to be at this early stage. I did chuckle at the Tom Brady cameo though.

Jimmy Floyd

I've seen one episode of C's Farm (not had time to go further yet, or indeed to type out his full surname) and I feel it works because he riffs on the fact that he's a dickhead, much more so than in any of his car things.

Ian
16-08-2021, 10:39 AM
Yeah and whereas in the car stuff obviously Hammond and May do their share of being the butt of the joke in this it's almost always him. If he's speaking to people they tend to be the people who know a lot better than him and he gets chided for being an impulsive idiot quite a few times.

I think it's interesting, both because I've learned stuff about farming I didn't know and because it shows him in a different light to Top Gear / Grand Tour. Same guy but he's old and tired and worried and clearly knows, beneath all the bluster, that he's not the one who knows what he's doing here.

Whats the streaming site of choice nowadays? Im gonna do a rewatch and my torrent upload ratio is too low to get it from there.

I use bunny movie. It's decent and you can download on android.

Has anyone been watching Vigil? If you can get past the Captain being Johnson then it's a solid watch.

:D

The Johnson thing was bothering me for a while but I didn't bother to look it up and he seemed more Johnson as things went on.

It's obviously absurd but it's been ok thus far.

Just when you think TV was as shit as it could be, youget exposed to the all new A Question of Sport during self isolation. Brutal.

The Hunt for a Killer on iPlayer is a very solid Scandi crime drama.

But the real gem that's saved me is Terrace House. It's a Japanese Big Brother/Love Island but with all the vulgarity and DRAMA taken out because they still operate a respectable culture. At least I thought that was the case as it truly is a real tribute to what reality TV was before social media and casting directors ruined it but turns out the show is no more after one contestant committed suicide after online abuse. At least it's reassuring to know it's a global problem.

Also a show now synonymous with contestant suicides. :D

Just finished Taskmaster NZ season 2. Probably the best series, including any of the UK ones.

Just finished Clickbait on Netflix. Was alright, not ground breaking but keeps you guessing.

Just finished it tonight and that’s pretty much how I felt. I would recommend it but not in an OMG you must watch kind of way. Looks like it reviews favourably too.

The trailer for series 2 Picard is pure cringe stuff.
