I was told by a BBC article the other day that it's racist not to 'see colour', which is basically my approach to the whole thing (obviously I can see what ethnicity people are, but it's definitely not the first thing I notice).
The whole discouse at the moment seems to be quite nuanced, highly-developed complaining about the past and present without any particular pointers to how things can be better in the present and future.

The latest season of B99 has been all over the place. Started off ok then went to shit (the episodes are far better when grounded in the police case machinations). The episode with young Hitchcock and Scully was ace though and it's been good since.
The new Rick and Morty was great as well, especially the heist episode.

I'm the opposite. I loved most of B99 this season and yet thought Rick and Morty was very weak this season. Heist episode was one of my least favourites too.

Earlier today I saw a clip of a TV show that was a police spoof. It featured two detectives going into a crime scene that had a signed photo of Piers Morgan.

And it's not more "unrealistic" if a 2000 year old time traveller who has adventures with giant pepper pots has tits instead of a dick.

Anyone watch Pointless last night? The finalists picked 'Blue Things', one of which was probably the easiest ever questions for sheer scope of pointless answers: name any Chelsea player who has scored more than 10 Premier League goals. They knew fuck all about football though so tried to name bit part actors who were in The Thin Blue Line.
1. It's Stamic.
2. He did not play for Chelsea.
3. Who tf am I thinking of?
4. Jesper has 7
5. Eddie has 8 career goals for Chelsea.

For a pointless effort on that I think I would have gone Mark Stein, John Spencer, Gavin Peacock or something like that. All pre-Gullit studs and only one of them now advocates the total subjugation and submission of all women in regular tweet storms.
My answers were Gavin Peacock, Dan Petrescu and Willian. I think 2 of them were pointless.
What’s the premise? Pick a Chelsea player who has scored 10 or more league goals that nobody else would think of? Is it like on opposite of Family Fortunes, only the answers are all factually correct?
Jimmy Floyd
16-07-2020, 10:32 AM
It is indeed the opposite of Family Fortunes. So if you'd said Drogba or Lampard or whatever then it would have been a higher score which you don't want, but you're aiming to get a correct answer which zero people thought of and win the money.
Makes sense. I’ve seen it on my parents TV but never really watched it.
My go to Chelsea player answer is always Shaun Wright Phillips.
Doubt he got 10 for this one though

I've started watching The Last Ship. I just noticed it on Amazon when looking for some relatively easy-going, possibly throwaway television to watch and remembered you saying it was alright. it is alright. Not a bad shout.
It's a bit "God bless America", "hoo-ah Marines!" etc but I don't mind it. Even when it gets a bit too ridiculous (pantomime villain Russian admirals and an excursion to Nicaragua to catch some monkeys leading to a run in with an evil drug lord, being the two main offenders so far :D) the general premise (which is admittedly almost a bit too close to home at the moment!) is still interesting enough to keep me watching.
I watched Steve-O's new thing, Gnarly. He's been plugging it on social media as some "too extreme for TV, even YouTube won't show it!" like it was all rad stunts and funny skits, but it's basically him doing not-funny stand-up comedy while telling some stories from his life. I think Prime and Netflix and whoever else just didn't pick it up cos it's not that good, rather than it being zomg crazy. Obviously, I enjoyed it but I'm a massive Jackass stan, but I was hoping for better.

Also, Mahow, do you still watch Hell on Wheels? I seem to remember you being the only other person I ever saw mention it on the old board (I may be wrong about this though) and I've just realised the first half of the final season has aired completely without me even noticing.
I've just come a across this after it's been added to amazon prime, Cullen Bohannon might be the coolest character of all time.

I found it to be good until the end (although I can't remember what happens in series 2). As it goes on, you just have to endure any scene/storyline Juliana is in and drink in the rest, which is largely great.
Good to hear. I absolutely love the concept of it and so far it's been brilliant. S2 so far is just them realising that they can travel between worlds and a bit of movement in the upper echelons of the Reich especially with John Smith.
Slowly working my way through Entourage again. Was trying to do it along with the podcast but I watch it faster than I listen to it, so I’m way ahead. Loving it too.
Not gonna lie, I can’t help but get super chuffed when Turtle goes to pick up some trainers and it’s goddamn Rufio!
Also Jeremy Piven really does steal the whole show by a long long way.

He is an absolute lad.
The Swede is an absolute bastard, but a loveable bastard. He's a great antagonist. I used to always find myself sort of rooting for him a bit too. It's a cracking show in general. It never got as much attention as it deserved, in my opinion. I am a bit of a sucker for anything Old West related though, to be fair.
Boydy
I think season three of The Last Ship is much better than season two. The lack of the evil cockney submarine gang is an obvious plus, but I just generally prefer the story. America/the world falling to bits etc, I'm glad they've sort of moved past "the virus" almost and onto the fallout from it all. Obviously it's all a bit daft and over the top in places, but I'm generally enjoying it quite a bit.
I wasn't even mad about them killing off the doctor at the end of season two. She annoyed me a bit anyway, plus is was a genuinely very unexpected plot twist.
Also, if this entire thing doesn't end with "President Tom Chandler" I will not be happy.

I wasn't big on Harry and Paul but I think that style of comedy isn't going to hit me any more. Y'know, make a joke about a stereotype and then hammer it into the ground in the space of a minute. And then write 18 more sketches that are exactly that.

Fast Show's whole thing was they'd cram as many sketches in as they could. It meant they could try anything for the sake of 20 seconds and a punchline.
I remember laughing for about six months at a sketch where one kid encouraged another to run towards him then moved out the way and let her run into a table. Harry and Lulu I think it was. At whatever age I was when it was on that was my Del Boy falling through the bar.

LCU is just far more engaging and entertaining for me. Hence, even though I’m big into the subject matter of QB1 to the extent where I couldn’t wait to see Spencer Rattlers episodes, I’ll take LCU over it any day.
Later series if LCU were crap so maybe that’s tainting my mind.

However, maybe the point is, watch both.

Yeh the 3rd and 4th weren’t great. The grandstanding coach who was an utterly irredeemable twat and snake oil salesman, along with some of the less likeable players in its history made leave me cold In retrospect. That school was very, very aware of being on the box and making stars of themselves on Netflix in a way that the EMC guys weren’t. Also, EMC were better and more genuinely in the last chance saloon. They’ve a few guys in the NFL now, one going 3rd round, another 7th and another likely to make the final cut as a UFA. None of the Indy guys are getting near that.
The last season is the best for me, but more as a social commentary.
Also, Gardner Minchew balling for Northwest in season 2 (maybe 1) is one of the best retrospective highlights of the series.

This has always been my take on it too. Him being a Londoner doesn't appear to be vital to the story in any way, they should just have let him drop it. But, as you say, Urban is brilliant in it. He's good enough that after a few episodes it stopped bothering me.

It’s anti-Marvel. It follows (and there’s no spoiler past ep 1 here, and frankly every bit of marketing made for the series and the quite brilliant source material) The Boys as they look to take down the superheroes, who are every bit the antithesis of the Marvel archetype.
Season 2 started well enough, but slow for the first two eps and has burst into life with Ep 3. The second half of which is as good as anything I’ve seen on the box in the past year.
