Jimmy Floyd

Most kits are just crap attempts at 80s/90s nostalgia to attract people in their 30s/40s with their bulging wallets and impressionable kids.

The Nike swoosh should be above the England badge. It's an awful kit though.

Jimmy Floyd

Centred badges are a disaster zone anyway. Should be love on the left breast, money on the right.

Spikey M

Very 1980's.

I think it's trying to be 1990's, but as with all these things, it fails at it. It just looks like one of the fake England kits you'd have got from JJB Sports for about £3.

Yeah, an England shirt off a market stall that one of the poggy kids would have worn.

I really don't like Brighton's kits this season. In isolation I suppose that yellow thing could be ok, but, I dunno, it doesn't seem right. They're way too Everton.

That said, the green one (was that last year?) was fucking horrific as well, so, more excellent work by Nike.

Speaking of Everton, that pink thing is shite.

Reg
02-09-2020, 08:49 PM
They haven't got a pink shirt have they?

Yeah I couldn't help but think of Ireland when we were green with white shorts.

I liked the green and black Errea though:

It's the first time I've come across the term 'sneakerheads', which sounds like a truly detestable marketing attempt to somehow combine mixed race sportswear cool with boomer obsessive spending habits, all wrapped up in an American word that no one in the home market ever uses.

Liverpool's third kit is probably the best of a bad bunch for them this season.

Hang on a second.

Scott Munson, VP Nike Football Apparel, said: “For the Liverpool FC third kit we explored the long-standing traditions of the club and how we could bring that to life through the lens of sneaker culture.

And I'm someone who travelled halfway round the world to buy a pair of Puma TX3s (I think), well, sort of.

Jimmy Floyd

I sometimes wonder what goes on in these corporate marketing departments to come up with this bullshit. I've had a couple of vague sniffs of the stratified big-city corporate world in my long and varied career, but those places must be off the edge of the world.

I mean, if I go on the Nike site to try and buy some shoes in response, they call them trainers, so it can't be anything to do with sales.

Do people/adults still buy random football shirts?

I’m 32 and I bloody love a comfortable football shirt for kicking about the flat.

Just received my two latest, charlton 2020/2021 (Hummel, wanted to see if they’re any good) and a West Ham top from last year or the year before (Umbro shirts are without doubt the most comfortable).

Gone are the days of ordering fabregas Chelsea shirts to annoy my arsenal supporting friend, but should I still be doing this. I bought a Chelsea keeper shirt last year because I’ve not owned a keeper shirt since I was about 7. Spoiler alert. Just like a jumper.

I’d give it a go if you’ve got the spare cash. Might open your mind to a new league and give you a new team to have a mild interest in. Unless it’s MLS or Chinese super league.

I don't think anyone would have been looking at the Blazing Squad and Korn and thinking they were the same.

It's not as if we're not aware of the Yank teenagers overdosing on anti-depressants, drawing on their faces and dribbling their way through some turgid shite. It just doesn't seem to have made it over here. The Drill shit has - and has merged with grime pretty well - but what else is there? Kpop? Sort of. What else?

I think music becoming completely formulaic has largely killed creativity and the cultures that come with it.

I am exclusively talking about the music based cultures here though. The kids today are far more switched on to social matters - and go balls deep in them for better or worse - than we were.

Not really. It was Formulaic in our day too. It was just Formulaic by Genre, where as we now have Ed Sheeran doing everything from Grime knock offs to Funeral songs.

And the point remains, what are the sub-cultures today? Genuine question.

The various sub-cultures are probably stronger than ever insofar as the monoculture only picks certain aspects of them off these days, rather than mainstreaming a sanitised version of something. It's why barely nothing has changed in twenty years. The monoculture remains stable, and the sub-cultures don't have to diverge from it pinching their things.

It's based on the 1990 one, although we never actually wore it during the tournament itself

I've also marked the 10 year anniversary of that game, by having a poo into a Spaniard's breakfast.

Speaking of disappointing kit makers, Nike continue to disappoint where New Balance shone:

Nike have managed to corner the market. They’ve got most of the big sports teams signed up so just brazenly slap their logo on the most basic t-shirts and the peasants hand over insane money for it.

Call me petty, but kit makers doing a "throwback" to a kit that was made by another manufacturer entirely, irks me.
