Yeah, I was going off a BBC article I now can't find which I read the other day, with the main takeaway away being they might inadvertently end up with a communist parliament, which seemed quite a funny prospect.

Why don't they just have AV in France though, which is what their system seems to amount to?

In unexpected news, one of my black mates has started spamming his Facebook and Instagram with Reform UK propaganda.
His local Reform candidate was this guy:
In a post in June 2020 he commented on the arrival of a small boat in Dover, saying: 'I hope I'm near one of these scumbags one day. I won't run away, I'll slaughter them then have their family taken out.'
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13573895/Reform-candidate-Leslie-Lilley-said-slaughter-migrants-families-taken-response-small-boats-social-media-post-joining-list-Nigel-Farages-controversial-election-hopefuls.html
Very, very sadly, he has been dropped by Reform today *womp womp* and my mate is furious.
I have no idea how the son of immigrants from Zimbabwe has got here, but it's quite something to witness.

Ed Davey hula-hooping over the weekend, bungee jumping today, it is indeed a novel electoral strategy, and anyone voting for them should be taken out back and shot.

These sort of statements are very revealing about how and why they have failed on every front. Whether or not Labour have got a plan to stack the deck in their favour ready to go (they have, albeit more in favour of their client state than the party itself), these retards haven't even managed to get the bare minimum of favourable boundary changes through in fourteen years.
Gonna have to be Lib Dem cos the local Labour woman (Marie Rimmer) is a corrupt scumbag, who also refused to vote for a ceasefire when she had the chance.
So a local labour man has just knocked on my door.
Good afternoon, can we rely on your support on Thursday?
No chance mate. Marie Rimmer’s awful.
Okay thank you very much, have a good night.
:D
I presume he gets enough ‘omg yes of course labour is life’ that the few who say no make literally zero difference to the 100% chance of her being voted back in.
I should have mentioned I’ve stuck her in net in my fantasy team, perhaps.
Sir Andy Mahowry

There were 4 Reform people (including AN ETHNIC to show they're not racist) at the train station today handing out leaflets.
The amount of people ignoring and or telling them to do one was lovely.
I gave them a "not a chance" when asked if I'd vote for them.

I still have absolutely no idea who I'm voting for tomorrow. Completely underwhelmed by every single party.

One thing's for sure, although these Tories are awful and need to go, I would lol extremely hard if the exit poll comes up with something like Labour majority 48. Everyone will have shat the bed and the Tories would be leaping for joy despite getting a beating.

The value bet of the election I would say is Reform to win zero seats, which you can get at 10/1 currently.
They'll likely win one but it wouldn't take much at all for them not to. As always with Farage a lot of the momentum behind him is hot air.

I think they'll pull a similar share of the vote to the Lib Dems. It's just that the Lib Dems will win seats off the back of it because their voters are concentrated in wanky middle class villages and small towns, whereas Reform voters are all over the place.
I find it hard to care in this instance, but it feels massively undemocratic. That said, I'm not sure PR would particularly fix it. You just end up with waring factions disagreeing on everything and the outcome is a centrist mess much like the one we're about to kick out (and probably the one we're about to vote in).
I can see a whole load of drum banging about electoral reform after tomorrow when 5 million votes nets Nige's lot just the one seat.

First past the post may have its faults, but decisive wins one way or the other are better than accidentally having to elect a ragtag coalition of communists and other fucktards because the alternative is the national front/fascists, a la Les Francais.

The magic of FPTP is that it divides the country into 650 pieces and to become the government, or even part of the government, you have to be genuinely popular in an awful lot of them. These 650 places are all very different and are populated by very different types of people. That means that the 'coalition' is built into the governing party already and so you have a broad church of views in the government without having the chaotic Dutch/Belgian/Italian propensity to fall apart at any given moment.
The incoming Labour government will have, like, 5 competing factions that represent a much bigger spread of voters than will have actually voted Labour. That's a good thing.
Lewis
03-07-2024, 11:20 PM
I think that turnout will be sufficiently shit that the Conservative Party will end up doing slightly better than it ought to be doing. Twenty-two/twenty-four per cent, and comfortably over a hundred seats. Obviously sad that they won't be completely destroyed, but Labour winning with less votes than Jeremy Corbyn got could be funny as far as the NARRATIVE goes.

I don't know where to check, but I'm pretty sure mine has been a Tory safe seat since the plebs got the vote.

Sunderland South at 11.30ish is the first one, then the first meaningful one will be Basildon and Billericay (or something like that) at midnight-ish, if the Tories lose that it's goodnight Vienna, if they hold it then it may be a slightly better night for them and 'only' 200 losses.

Is voter ID a new thing for you guys? In Sweden it's a given, and it always amazed me that in the States it by and large is not a thing, and when it is implemented it's seen as disenfranchisement. How do people not have personal identification documents at the ready...?

It was brought in since the last general election (2019) and was harshly criticised by the political left for being a right-wing voter suppression tactic. In general we are very different to most of Europe in this regard, we don't have ID cards, most people don't carry such things around routinely, when Tony Blair wanted to introduce ID cards 20 years ago there was a massive privacy backlash and he had to withdraw the policy.

Came in since 2023 I believe. The issue here is that we don't have a standard national ID card as it was resisted a while back, so if you need to produce ID that means a driving licence or passport, both of which cost money and there's a chance you may go through life never using either.

Yeah, I feel the same. Starmer's majority if that poll is reasonably accurate won't even be larger than Blair's first term.
Margin of error in there though for a lot of Tory seats you would imagine it won’t take much for that to be out by 15/20 seats.
Plus 170 is fucking huge from where they were 5 years ago, basically should mean as long as he isn’t a combination of Boris/Truss/Sunak in the first 5 years we should be heading for 10 years of Labour.

No. The far right rises when people's material needs are not being met and no one in the mainstream seems to want to meet them. Look at what Labour were offering - fuck all. The FN and Afd in France and Germany are most certainly far right/fascist and Reform very much fit that too.

Total inward migration was more like four times the population of Coventry last year (and the year before that). Net migration in the whole of 1997 was 48000. That's about three weeks worth now. This in a country that hasn't built a national scale reservoir since I was at nursery.
The lol thing about all of the 'far right'/fascism panic is that you could make it go away in an afternoon if you just did what the average voter - the average voter, not serious people like me - wants on immigration. Jezza should have run in H & St P.
Tory gain Leicester East. Indians are fucking mental. Like the Gaza crowd, like in a completely parallel existence which has nothing to do with the broader UK experience.

Was it not mostly the Claudia Webbe factor in Leicester East?

And Keith Vaz, but the Tory vote held up ridiculously well.
Love to know what all these Gaza legend candidates think they can do about it as independents in the UK parliament. Sure they'll all represent their constituents wonderfully on all issues.

Labour struggling desperately in Muslim areas against Gaza people. Sectarian politics is here.

Rees-Mogg out.
Paisley Jnr lost North Antrim as well.
Good stuff.

They'll both do worse than the exit poll.
I meant what made you think that.

George Galloway gone again :D
Out of interest what is immigration like north of the border? What percentage of the total UK migrants end up there, do they have the asylum seeker hotel takeovers etc? I didn't vote Reform, but there's a former posh hotel in my town been housing asylum seekers for ages now, resulting social media panic (rightly or wrongly) about foriegn men following women/taking pictures of children, and I got on the train the other day and it was one geezer on one table seemingly watching South Asian Tik Tok on his phone loudly between phone calls and another group at another table talking loudly in their native tongue.
In fact now I think about it when I got a taxi at the weekend the driver was on his phone to someone and that was another native language conversation. I can see why some people think this is concerning and feel like they aren't represented by either main party, especially people who previously lived in 99% white communities earlier in their lives and people tend to romanticise the past.
