I know right? It's almost unheard of to see football clubs act financially irresponsibly.

Jimmy Floyd

United (or any team) spending a nine figure sum on a footballer is just not going to happen until we are well clear of covid.
The talk is probably agents spinning a yarn.

Jimmy Floyd
02-06-2020, 09:04 AM
Covid will, absolutely certainly, depress the entire football economy (which has been in a tulip boom as it is). TV rights values were plateauing anyway and will now drop hard, especially if there are no or few fans in grounds for an extended period. If United want to dump £110 million on Jadon Sancho, they no doubt have the funds to do so but they will quickly find he is worth £60 million in six months' time. Why would you make that business decision?
If they thought he would make THAT much of a different, they're not planning to sell him ever and are liquid enough then they might.
Not saying it's a good idea but if United are one of a few who still have money to throw about I'm guessing they'd try and get a leg up with a relative lack of competition.
And if transfer genius Ed Woodward thinks it's a good idea who am I to argue?
John Arne
02-06-2020, 09:30 AM
The Premier League should just sell the rights themselves. Online season pass for $100. 50m people sign up - $5bn-a-season. Easy peasy.

If they do that then there's an onus on them to spend to produce their own programming.
Hassenhuttl has just signed a new four year deal. This is fantastic news.
There were rumours doing the rounds thay we needed to sell 5 or more first team players just to balance the books. Apparently there is a law in place to stop our Chinese owner investing any of his money in the club.

A quick Google suggests it cost them £1bn all-in. This was done on the basis it became a hub for other sports(NFL and Rugby made agreements to play matches there), along with a concert venue.

Chelsea signing Werner would be some serious expenditure on top of Ziyech. Speaking of him, have they binned things off in the Netherlands and does that mean he can sign for Chelsea and play for them when things resume or is the transfer window on hiatus at the moment? Chuck in Pulisic and that's about €150m on 3 flouncy attackers from leagues of dubious merit.

Marina has Chelsea as the best run team by a fair bit in the league. They rarely ever make losses and even with horrible signings they seem to recoup the money.
She’ll make another big signing or two whilst the majority of the other clubs do nothing.
niko_cee
04-06-2020, 08:02 PM
They've definitely got some sort of network they can fall back on when they need to sell Oscar for £60m or get Real to stump up insane money for a player running out of contract.
On that point, the 'big 2' in Spain haven't half had some shockers in recent seasons.
I've no real idea about Werner, but £49m doesn't seem majorly mad even in these 'new normal' times.
What the sweet fuck is Werner going to do at ours barely getting minutes off the bench behind Harvey Elliot and Naby? Go destroy your career under Lamps, lad.
Speaking of strikers there, I never thought I’d see the day Long was extended.
Hes a perfect fit since we started playing two upfront. Really gives great balance to the team going forward.
Gray Fox
04-06-2020, 09:56 PM
I felt like Long had been at Southampton for about a million years. So to check and see it's only 6 was quite odd. It does feel like he always scores against Liverpool too.
The more I dig into Liverpool journo Twitter, it seems like it's a done deal to Chelsea. Liverpool won't pay the clause. Can't pretend I'm not disappointed as I like him a lot, but the place would get very cluttered with Origi and Minamino there with Elliott to squeeze in as well.

I'm all for it. Delivers a decent ball, should be good for 5+ years, and also I've been watching Marcos Alonso for what seems like half my adult life so it would be nice to watch us have a left back rather than a left knee on skis.
Not sure if he takes Alonso's place in the dreamy eyes XI, it's a close run thing. Werner's addition could be a blow to the franchise if it denies Giroud valuable dreamy eyes pitch time.

They buy at least one big ticket fullback every year for some reason. They can biff Zinchenko to Leicester as part of the deal. They paid god knows what for Iheanacho so I'd imagine they'd be well up for one of those not-at-all suss we'll buy X for Y and you buy Z for ? (profit!) deals.

Hopefully the lure of playing for Super Frankie Binman will outweigh the chance to strap on the, well, the strap-on, and the famous red armband in the dungeon with Max Mosley.
Looking at FC Brian's forward options, they are a little bit light in the futures department, so I suppose they need to wring a few more years out of Muller and Lewandowski. If 'Jan Fiete Arp' was going to Muller his way through the next decade, you'd think he would have started doing so by now.

He's on 400 grand a week and isn't that good, I would be open to selling him too. Sadly for them not a single club in the world will be open to buying him, so they're stuck with him.
He's played 24 games in all comps.

Ramsey and his agent have masterminded some salary for him there which further proves what ive also thought.
Player A contract is expiring
Instead of Club B paying Club A £40m for Player A
Club B just give Player A £20m once his contract expires
Im not going anywhere.
He's the sort of player that's going to absolutely destroy our offspring's hopes of 'Name the XI' games. 11 years of riding the momentum of that initial 18 year old British prospect hype without really doing or saying anything of note. Simon Davies must be thinking that could have been him.

Last stumbling block to agreeing the Sancho deal was around agent fees. It's apparently becoming more and more certain that an agent fee cap will be imposed next year. In response to this the agent involved has substantially lowered their demands, given if he doesn't move til next season they'd get much much less.
Everyone now pushing for it to happen. Fully expecting him to be a United player.
From the ITKs
Ryan Fraser refusing to sign a short extension past 30 June is strange but does mean you have a ready made replacement when Sancho forgets he knows the club.

Jude Bellingham's Dad wants whichever club he goes to to sign his brother as well (who is apparently also very highly thought of so it wouldn't just be a charity signing). That's the stumbling block for Dortmund, which is where he wants them to go.
United would be happy to take both, but still looks more likely Dortmund will work it out in the end.

Bellingham is off to Dortmund. Utd more likely to push on with either Grealish or VDB having missed out on him.
Utd been shopping De Gea around but no takers. Would like to sell him and give Henderson the #1. They fear if they allow the two to compete for the shirt next season then De Gea would lose even more value.
Sancho looks all but done at this point. Dortmund made some attempts to get other clubs interested but nobody willing to pay what they want other than Utd. The fee is going to be bonkers.
Utd will try to sign a centre back if they manage to sell Rojo, Smalling and Jones. Smalling looks very likely to be made permanent by Roma; for once we're apparently getting a half decent fee.

No one is taking David Geyer's enormous salary off your hands.
Anyone stupid enough to do so could just go and spaff it on a better 'keeper who doesn't have a recent track record of being absolute shit (Oblak?). Chucking one in the other night is hardly going to help. I suppose you could swap him for Ramsay in some sort of terrible salary amnesty.
