Klopp loves Henderson.
We've been a shambles every time he's been out, my knob will be red-raw at Thiago's turns and volley'd lofted balls for our Muzzies to run on to but let's be clear, he ain't gonna do shit in this kick and rush league.

Player of the year next season then.
Hi TTH. I felt the need to log in to say that Taz post is balls, and Thiago would be great in any league. (It's possible that I just wanted to criticise Taz after he dissed Brighton a couple weeks ago.)
I was just putting the bait out to draw you back in, you predictable cunt. Imagine thinking Thiago would struggle when that malnourished gyppo is getting plaudits for Utd.
The Brighton stuff wasn't bait though, you're toxic to the eye [and you know it].

:D I'm not sure of the last time I posted so no idea why I'm on your mind.
And I don't know what you mean about Brighton, we play some beautiful football in our own third.
Everyone is forever on my mind.
Daniel James isn't going to be as good as Messi. Oh wait, RL is active, as you were.

Alcantara to Anfield looks to be on. Who is the casualty here?
Wijnaldum is most likely. In his Liverpool guise he is often the one of the midfield 3 the most forward. Henderson and Fabinho do a lot more dirty work, though his effort is not to be overlooked. He also is down to 1 year left on his deal and is (depending on who you believe) either after a new challenge or one last big payday.
I've heard rumours of a swap with Bayern. To swap him for Thiago would change that midfield dynamic a fair bit. I don't think Thiago is as athletic nor as willing to get his hands dirty, but going the other way he'd be another great weapon to unpick those stubborn defences.
It'd also allow for a shift into a 4-2-3-1 where needed. Curtis Jones has been handed the #17 shirt for next year which seems to me an indication he's likely to be a regular member of the squad. He's another that could play in the 3 or as the 10.
Personally I'd love to see Thiago as well as Gini staying. He's more than earned the reward of a new deal.

It looks like we're actually going to sign Kai Havertz (the surgeons rummaging through legal precedent to determine his eligibility or otherwise for The Operation) but Leicester want £80 million for Chilwell (lol) so we're after some blockhead Belgian instead.

Wijnaldum's an excellent 10 when he plays for Holland, and whilst I appreciate 'Thiago' is probably a 'better' player, at 29 does he have what it takes to come in and hit the ground running in England? Maybe for some fancy dan possession wankers, but I don't know about him as an '8' the way Liverpool play. Gini is mega-underrated and even if he were to leave I don't think it's a position that would need urgent restaffing. Changing the system unsettles the front 3.
I do wonder how capable Firmino would be as one of the midfield 3. He was a midfielder in the Wijnaldum mould once upon a time, and they've gone different ways with it. Would open up space for Mbappe.

Can't see anyone outside of Real being able to offer him the sort of wages it would take to get him out of Paris, and everything is all about money. Do they really pay Bale €600k a week? After his first three seasons at Madrid, he was scorching and signed a new 6-year deal until 2022. He was already on mega-money so yeah, he is probably locked in on half a million a week until then. He is still only 31.

niko_cee

I'd say his injury record would be the biggest worry. He's a more than decent player, but yeah, could be quite Pep. He's not exactly the guy you think is going to make everything alright is he? More than capable but not in the top bracket. They just need to suck it up and buy Koulibaly.
£35m is nothing to them, less than they typically spend on feckless fullbacks so a player that can cover a couple of positions is probably a step in the right direction.

One of the few defenders you can pick up outside the top 6/7 teams that’s used to playing in a high line and playing it out from the back I guess, and in fairness given the other players in that Bournemouth defence, he’s been carrying what little defensive quality they have for a while.

If we had technically gifted footballers (we clearly don't and rarely do) then I'd worry more about whether our defenders could play the ball, but as it is I'd prefer to start with their ability to defend first and foremost.

Everton are the only club that can afford him, it was reported Spurs offered less than Evertons original 15m bid.

randomlegend

Google says he had a clause in his contract which meant Liverpool had to inform Suarez of any bid over £40m. Arsenal thought it was a release clause and bid 40m and one pounds, which Liverpool told Suarez about and promptly rejected.
niko_cee
23-07-2020, 12:23 PM
The exact details are a bit sketchy. I think he had a release clause, Liverpool's ownership just laughed it off (basically saying contracts were worthless in football when players wanted to leave so they'd have a bit of it the other way round) and Suarez had no desire to kick up a major fuss to go to Arsenal.
It was basically the beginning of their descent.
Lofty
23-07-2020, 01:01 PM

The story I read re: Bellingham from one of the Birmingham fans on Reddit is that because of his age he could have left on a free, but he 'arranged' it so that the buying club paid Birmingham a fee and he took lower wages. They reckoned Birmingham were in enough financial difficulty that the fee was significant enough to have not far off saved the club.
If that's all true it's slightly more understandable. Sort of.

A shopper has shared a photo of a 500g packet of minced beef she bought from Sainsbury's, after weighing it and realising she had been short changed.
The packet of mince that she'd purchased from the British supermarket chain actually only had 478g in it, meaning she was down 22g of mince.
She said: "Erm @sainsburys this was supposed to be a 500g pack, where's the rest? #shortchanged"
Another, in reference to Birmingham City retiring their 22 shirt, said: "They've retired 22g of beef in honour of Jude Bellingham, have some respect."

United apparently want Sancho, Grealish, VdB and a starting quality CB (Upamecano and Koylibaly mentioned but nobody really sure) as their ideal window. There are 10 players who would be allowed to leave if a half decent bid came in, and we're actively aiming to get at least 6 out.

Havertz is obviously as good as done, I just wonder whether we have any plans to start defending better or if Andreas Christensen toeing clearances up in the air is actually the future of top class defending and I'm just missing something.
I'm also not sure where a keeper is coming from, or who will take Kepa off our hands, surely we're not paying £100 million for Oblak as well as spunking all this money on the various attackers.
Interesting. Thought he'd had his career ruined this year but god bless the transfer comittee for recognising that talent. Why Leicester have tried to make him into some byline winger I don't understand, I swear he blew as a central player for West Brom. Imagine thinking a white man is gonna make for a top winger.

There aren't going to be many half-decent bids flying around this summer. Other than from United by the sounds of it.
Other than fulfilling a 'nice-to-have' requirement I'm really not sure why United would want (all of) Sancho, Grealish and the dutch chap for £200m when they already have pretty decent options in that area of the pitch. Are they just replacements for the likes of Sanchez, Mata (is he still there?) and whoever else might be leaving? Centre-half, left-back and someone less shit than Matic as the pivot or whatever that role is called would seem a more sensible way to spend a fuckton of cash

We DESPERATELY need creative options for the centre. If either of Pogba or Fernandes get injured or have a poor run of form it's back to fucking Pereira, Lingard, Mata etc.
Matic has been good since the restart but he doesn't have the legs for it. I guess the hope is that McTominay and Fred could provide sufficient cover until next year.

Is there any special reason Solskjaer doesn't like Dalot?
I mean I know that having more than one competent right back seems to be against club policy in recent years but I don't really see the issue and I'd have thought he could have done a bit on the wing recently rather than driving the same eleven players into the town.
Just because a fullback doesn't score own goals doesn't make them competent, that is ultimately a more extreme fallacy which has seen AWB make a name as a high quality RB. Solskjaer thinks Dalot is absolute dogshit apparently.
On the CB front, we were said to be interested in Ake but not enough to match City's bid. Upamecano (on a loan with obligation to buy), Gabriel Magalhaes and Pau Torres are the others on our list.

He'd be a quality signing for United mind, although you could only imagine the fee would be insane. Didn't they pay like £40m for him themselves? It'd have to be £80m+.
That Ake fee is a bit mad, although not surprising. He's a decent player and handy in that he can fill a few holes in various positions. £60m+ already apparently burned on players who improve the squad but not really the first XI though? One wonders where the money comes from. Why don't they just not let the next Jadon Sancho slip through their fingers rather than signing Ferran Torres? Stopped by French police between Lyon and Geneva in the region of Ain, the local authorities said the radar reading of 271 km/h was the fastest speed ever recorded in the region, surpassing the previous mark of 248 km/h (154 mph) set by a motorcyclist in 2000.
Ake is 25 and a consistent, proven premiership talent. Anything less than £60m is because they went down. Top signing.

it's one of those that sounds mental until you remind yourself that £40m these days is what they find down the back of the sofa.

My ITK mate in the Portuguese press also backs up the Jimenez story. http://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-signing-strongly-backed-imminent-raul-jimenez-way-manchester-united/

I could see Jimenez leaving as they have yet to receive a big transfer income from a player, given their strong position.
I think he will go to Juventus with Ronaldo coming the other way in a swap deal. Portugal links and all that.

That and he's left-footed.
Isn't Laporte left-footed though?
I like Ake as a player, but I'm not sure he's really all that much better than John Stones. I mean, he's basically just participated in/been central to one of the worst defences over a sustained period of time in the history of the Premier League. Is he good for Holland or does De Ligt play?
