I'd bring on RTTF Kante for Ward-Prowse, IF De Bruyne for Lookman and Reus/OTW Promes for Sessegnon and play a 4-2-2-2.

It took me probably about 10 games to get the wins and was by far the hardest of the online ones. Walker is crap (I've tried his base card over the last few years and never been impressed), Michael Keane felt like he was running through sludge, Gomez was almost always out of position and Delph was a headless chicken.

I also don't get on that well with Vardy and I used Promes in the first handful of games but didn't like him so started using Reus instead.

Just played my first WL game (bit late I know) and I was leading 2-0 but ended up conceding in the 85th minute and then in the 89th minute to send it to extra time.

Got the first goal of extra time but instead of just slowing it down I kept playing fast paced and got hit on a counter attack to make it 3-3 at the end of the first half in ET.

Luckily I won 5-4 on penalties though.

Annoyingly, I was absolutely bossing the game up until the 80th minute when all of a sudden I could barely defend against him.

Churned through 15 games on the bounce last night to get to 14-11. Lost at least 3 games due to poor finishing and/or stupid mistakes at the back, which does give me hope that I can push for 17 and eventually 20 wins in a Weekend League in the future. Had one truly awful game against the sweatiest 5-at-the-back, drop back, 1 depth team I've ever seen - and the guy was incredible at defending, cutting passing lanes all the time and bullying my frontline. He opened as many as 2,400 packs in the end through recycling the cards and did pull 8 (yes eight) TOTY players (some were duplicates), but not a single icon. Not one.

He also got fucked over by EA for doing too many SBC's, which is even more ludicrous than the transfer ban. :D


What does this mean? I think I've sussed the odds.

As a comparison to what I did, it took him well over 350 specific league player packs before he got his first toty from them - of the 479 packs I opened, only 149 of them were specific league player packs.

If it was 350 exactly to pack one then his hit rate was less than 0.3%, which from those upgrade packs I could believe. I think it took Nepenthez 500 La Liga upgrade packs to get Varane x 2, which would obviously be 0.4% bang on, and christ knows how many two player upgrade packs it took Nick to get Kante.

From this (obviously relatively small sample size admittedly) I'm reasonably comfortable in saying that the chance to pack a TOTY from the league upgrade player packs was no worse than 0.25%, but that probably doesn't count the Serie A ones, which I think would be below 0.1% to get Ronaldo.

So if it was 0.25%, you'd need to open 400 Premium League packs to statistically expect one, obviously you might be 'unlucky' and need to open more, but 400 should do it.

400 of those packs equates to 10,000,000 coins worth, or 140,000 FIFA Points, or £840 (with the EA discount). But, (and it's a big but) that many coins, FIFA Points or pounds only buys you 80 Ultimate Packs and as we said before, we know the odds of packing a TOTY player from one of those packs is less than 1% and you'd need to open at least 100 to expect to pull one.

It's at this point I realise you can scrap what I said above, the odds from those packs is actually lower than 0.25% and Nepenthez and this Twitter chap actually got lucky packing what they did so soon.

I mean, sweet mother of God. It also explains perfectly why I didn't pack one (or get a real meta player), I simply didn't have enough packs to tip the odds in my favour. Which I knew, but what I didn't know is that I didn't actually have enough not only by half, but not even by a third.

Ignoring the Serie A packs, I think the actual odds of getting a TOTY from a Premium EPL or La Liga upgrade pack (probably Ligue 1 as well) was somewhere between 0.1% and 0.2%. That's 500 to 1,000 packs, 12.5m to 25m coins worth, 175,000 to 350,000 FIFA Points or in something that actually matters, £1,050 to £2,100.

This would also put the odds of the Ultimate Packs at somewhere from opening 100 to 200 of them, or if you prefer, 0.5% to less than 1%....

I would suspect it'll be half that this year, so 0.25% to 0.5% chance, or £2k to £4k. Given only 3 players are in packs at the moment and I worked that out when all 12 were, I could easily see how six grand could have been spunked on packs yesterday and not one pulled.

These upgrade packs have always been untradeable, they're not the problem.

I'd rather use the rares in the Premium Upgrade packs so it depends what comes from the MM requirements, but if half of the 44 players can be done with bronze or silvers and only a handful of rares then I'll do them.

Either way, that should take me to over 200 packs to kick things off with, which is close to last year. The kicker then comes is that you can keep recycling these fuckers and it genuinely goes on forever.

I've run the maths and while the golds I have start with me 13 premium upgrade packs and 31 standard upgrade packs, you can recycle the starting pool 6 fucking times, to end up with 24 Premium Upgrade Packs and 62 standard upgrade packs. This doesn't count the 150 packs I'll have before I make any upgrade packs, nor the silvers and nor the bronzes that I have in the club.

The downside is two-fold. Time (this shit takes forever, the bloke I mentioned upthread wil genuinely struggle to open all of his packs) and (as every fucker is going to be opening them) the pack odds for the PL upgrade packs are going to be at the lowest levels we've ever seen. But oh my, what a grind. :drool:

Thursday: Finish the two Ligue 1 milestone team objectives I can still do. Do the standard TOTY SBC upgrade if they release one. Assess whether it's worth doing MM's and do it if so.
Friday: See what the Futswap and player objectives there are and maybe do some of them. Do the standard TOTY SBC if there is one and then start building the fuck out of the packs.
Saturday: Carry on the building. Opening will start about 5-6.

I should be able to pack enough good players to do Suarez reasonably easily and hopefully Rooney too should he come, which would be two great additions to the squad and that plus the hope of packing a TOTY (the hope fades badly by 4am) makes gutting the club of most of what I have worthwhile. I'll keep rare bronzes/silvers, SBC league bronzes/silvers and the special cards, but everything else can go.
