I'm not normally one to call bullshit on an online match, but I've just had one of the most fucking irritating matches of all time, whilst trying to grind for Politano.

Matched up against a really top side, with Scream Kroos, Scream Pique, some other special cards, and he storms out of the blocks, takes a 1-0 lead inside 5 minutes. I get back into it, create a few opportunities, but my opponent is lightning fast on the break. And it's on the counter he makes it 2-0, but in a manner that made me want to throw my controller through the screen.

3 minutes after that, Smalling gets a 2nd yellow for a really innocuous challenge, and I'm very close to packing it in and quitting. But, underneath all of this, I can feel this guy is frantic in defence and there will be chances. And so, in the 45th minute, I break through. Tolisso (brought on for the Storyline objectives) gets it in midfield and slides a lovely ball through for Dzeko, who slots it past Oblak. But wait, it's given offside and disallowed....

I'm fuming at half time, but somehow come out and dominate. A scrappy goal is bundled in by Dzeko with about 25 minutes to play to give us a chance. A series of corners end up with Tolisso smashing in an equaliser with just 10 minutes left. I'm still banging on the door, and in the last minute, Rabiot breaks through, slides a shot towards the corner, and somehow it screws wide. The replay seems to indicate a save from Oblak, despite him being 2-3 feet away from the ball!

From the corner, he clears to the halfway line where his POTM Pukki wins a header. Never mind, my second defender will sweep up. Nope, Pukki falls from the header and cleans out my defender and the ball as they tumble to the turf. Somehow it's not a foul. Luckily my defender gets up and is recovering possession, where, inexplicably, he goes to play a pass straight back to Pukki. I don't know if it was automatically decided by the AI or a long-delayed pass from when I initially thought I'd get the ball.

Pukki runs through and bangs it in. I lose 3-2. :facepalm:

I was working on Mbabu (as I currently use his regular 77 rated card for FUT Champions), but now the Icon Swap objectives are out, it occurred to me I should just aim for those as I plan on taking Zanetti anyway. The only thing Mbabu will offer is a nice strong link to Akanji, especially if he ever gets a special card.

My best pack pulls so far this year would be OTW Hernandez (130k when pulled) and IF Digne, both tradeable, and Scream Alli (215k when pulled) untradeable. My highest rated regular card pull has been Verratti.....

I don't like how the icon swaps involve winning the game. For me, it should be based on time played. It would be interesting to find out if people try for these objective and never complete them because they are not good enough. I think I can get Zanetti, but I would need to do every objective. I didn't complete all the objectives from the first batch, but I know I did at least 5 of them. Will have to check later.

You've got over a month so if you take untradeable rewards in Rivals you should get what you need soon enough.

The more and more I think about icon swaps the more and more I hate how they've done it.

I've built this team that I'd quite like to be playing with, but instead I'm faffing about building sides with Championship players so I can have a tedium off against the AI. It's gonna take, what, somewhere in the region of 50 games of me not using my first team to get this batch of 12 tokens.

EDIT: 50 games minimum, it'll probably be more like 80, likely over 100 for anyone who is either in the division they should be or not very good at Squad Battles.

It is shit. It should all be based on games played and completed. I can understand them wanting us to use different cards, but the moment they add the WIN factor into it. It becomes a headache.

The problem is no matter what the objective is, this FIFA community is so fucking awful and toxic, they will find a way to cheat the system and do it in the shortest possible way.

Games won (online) - drop down divisions and smash worse players in Division 6, 7, 8 to complete it.

Games played - Start a match and simply rage quit when far enough in. Also as a bonus, helps towards self relegation for any win objectives.

Games completed - Start a match and go 'afk', either nudging the stick every now and then, or rubber banding the analogue sticks for constant movement. Again, helps towards self relegation.

Goals scored with certain players - instant message at start of game regarding objective in the hope to get about 10-15 goals scored in one game. God forbid a timeless objective take any longer than 1 or 2 days.

I find the objective that require wins to be a little irritating, no doubt. But I do end up using some different cards and I can find some unsung heroes, some random non-rare who fires me to victory online. Now the offline win objectives - I agree, those are fucking tedious. It's hard enough trying to beat the cheating AI when using my normal squad.

I'm all for objectives for players in principle, I just wish they'd left icons as they were back in FIFA17 and just tweaked the SBC requirements so that icons weren't needed to complete them.

For me there was a far greater sense of achievement in working towards completing a stack of SBC's than doing this sack of shit.

If they made it 'participate' then everyone would get every token and the whole exercise would be meaningless. Completing objectives shouldn't be about just being there long enough. Having to win the required games is the only part of the entire implementation I unequivocally agree with.

The objectives themselves are mostly fine, they just shouldn't be played out in a game mode that wasn't at all designed to house them.

If they'd just kept tournaments and done them all in there it would have worked perfectly. e.g. win x number of tournament games with a starting squad including 7 first owned Brazilians.

I'm Division 6 level too, and you're right, a lot of the games I play are against opponents who should be divisions higher. But I sneak a few wins here and there, sometimes a late draw (one with 10 men last night against someone WAY better than me, which was incredibly satisfying), and generally it feels more enjoyable when I do get the objectives done knowing that I've had a challenge.

Don't get me wrong, it's insanely frustrating when it's not working out, and I've complained on this thread a lot about it. Maybe I'm a sucker for punishment.

Reached 50 Rivals wins last night, unlocking a Premium Gold Players pack - managed to pull Parejo and IF Kryvtsov from it, should help towards the RTTF Konate SBC.

I have seen a few reviews on Giggs, the consensus seemed to be that he wasn’t quick enough to play out wide (hunter/engine maybe help that) but that his positioning is incredible, his passing his very good and hit shooting is good. Don’t remember what was said about dribbling but it looks good on the stats.

I've been experimenting with three at the back formations. It really does not work. You need to have at least four defenders. If you do anything other than having full-backs, on stay back. You are going to get exposed.
