Only real preferences are :

Love pacey strikers with good finishing. Used Ben Yedder for the entirety of fifa 19 with great success.

Like playing 4-3-3. Tackling, strength, stamina and short passing for two cms, and long shots, finishing and passing for the AMC.

Inside forwards who are quick and good finishers and passers on the wing. Essentially see them as secondary strikers.

Super skillful dribblers utterly wasted on me as I'm too shit. Skill move star rating probably the least important attribute for me.

Picked up Nathan Ake for my Dutch team and he seems to be a very effective CB.

I went 2-1-2 in the rivals placement games, which landed me in Div 6 with a score of about 950.

Huge improvement on where I was 7 days ago, but a few obvious things to sort. Don't have a single decent RM or RW and still annoyed I put a bronze Norwich right winger into MM's as that would have kept Pukki on 10 chem while giving me more options in the middle. Rookie mistake. As it is I generally sub on Draxler for Lallana immediately. He's a bit slow, but can dribble well and has 5 star weak foot, which is schweet.

Bar putting a Sniper on Pukki I've done nothing with consumables as you can see, so that might be a job for this weekend. Have 20k coins in the bank and (I know I said this last week) but should get Elite 1 in SB this week, which is nice.

The OTW player could be huge and shape things in a different direction depending on who I pack. I have loads of options beyond what you see there, with over 550 players in the club, 196 of them gold ones.

L2+R2 defending is the way to go this year and just trying to run into the man/make an interception.

It's a lot more enjoyable to play although crossing/headers are completely dead which is a bit annoying as there are objectives for them (for OTW Ndombele you need to score from crosses in 3 Squad battles games and Silver weekly is one cross/header).

The only bad bits in the gameplay right now is that you're punished for going for tackles because if you miss your defence is fucked, if you succeed the ball could go anywhere. Also too many rebound goals right now.

Laporte is relatively quick. If you look at the top selling players, it's basically all the ones with 70+ pace.

I wouldn't mind and to be fair I probably don't, but it would be useful if there was an indication from EA as to how many of these shitty objectives you have to do to get rank 30 by the time 'season 1' is up.

It should be about 150% of the level 30 target XP for that period available, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was 105%, or they just flat out balls it up and don't offer enough for anyone to get there.

EDIT: I've just hit level 13, so only 78,000 XP to go. I know how Sincere felt on Gran Turismo now.

Yes. In previous games desirable SBCs that aren't rip offs require 84's to complete.

Due to the demand, people buy them all up when one drops and the price shoots up. For example Illaramendi last year was perfect. 84 rated, great nationality, league and position. You could buy him for 2-3k and then when the SBC dropped most times you'd double your money or close to it.

If you have more coins to invest and can hang on for a bit Busquets is great value. 89 rated and under 20k ish. Cheaper than most 88's.

Vardy is pretty intensely overpowered at the moment.

In fourteen games for me he has twenty six goals and ten assists, with all of those games having been played in rivals. He's basically unstoppable when he gets running and something in his stats, I suspect his high defensive work rate in concert with his good for a striker defensive stats make him win the ball off defenders far more often than is decent.

My play is pretty shit right now because I'm not overly concerned about winning, it's all about getting the ball to a midfielder and getting an assist with them.

Defensively I'm playing so offensively and risky and in attack I've passed up on easy goals as they wouldn't have been assisted by one of the right players.

Still won all bar 3 or 4 thus far I think and I'm into division 8. I'll probably keep myself in division 6 eventually though.

They've dedicated an entire section to it but the things you have to do are either unimaginative or borderline impossible. Once you do them you earn XP but you've no way of knowing how much more there is to come so can't select what you'd like to do and there'll be people who miss out on getting the level 30 reward by a few hundred XP from nearly 100,000 as a result.

The player rewards for level 30 are also crap by the time we'll be able to get them. I highly doubt an 85 Zaha would be a guaranteed starter for me in 30+ days time and I'm running a first owner game. If I was allowed to buy players with coins to use in my team there'd be absolutely no chance he would.

in previous fifas i've tried to do the sensible slow accumulation thing, but it generally just gave me a headache and i'd get annoyed with myself when i did shit like buy kroos for 70k, hate him, then end up selling him for 50k. and the two fifas i enjoyed FUT most on were the ones i did the DUTCH league and the TURKISH league, as imposing massive restrictions on myself made me appreciate scraping out wins in div 6 and 7 far more than in higher divs with better teams. my awful lack of ambition clearly applies to video game as well.

also, I've always loved the idea of having an icon/legend, but i've never been able to afford one except the shit 85 rated 5'9'' centre backs in the arse-end of the game cycle.

Previously they've held their value quite well, but this year is different as there won't be any icon SBC's any more, so I'd expect them to behave like regular players more, perhaps even more regular as they won't be required for SBC's at all as regular players always are.

Only baby and middle icons are in packs at the moment as well don't forget.

You'll lose money on whoever you buy, but first owner really is awesome and you'll probably be using that player for the rest of the game cylcle.

It's a somewhat stupid set of self-imposed rules that might make the game more fun for you if you're that way inclined.

First Owner = you're only allowed to use players in your team that are first owner. e.g. you've packed them or crafted them from an SBC, but not bought them from the transfer market. You can buy players from the transfer market to complete SBC's, just not play them.
Pack Only = As above, but you can't use the transfer market at all to buy anything.

Why would you do these things you might ask? The more you play the game the more you realise that there are a small pool of players that are 'meta', which if you can buy who you want (coins permitting, but they're a piece of piss to generate) you'll always gravitate towards. This pool of players doesn't change a huge amount from version to version and it gets boring using the same players every year. With the above self imposed rules you get much more variety and for me a greater affinity to the players you do use as you're not endlessly chopping and changing.

If I wasn't doing first owner I'd have a much better team than I do now, but I'd be bored as there'd be little to grind for and ultimately the football playing side of the game itself isn't often good enough to keep you playing on its own.

RB: Walker - Again, no. He's good, but I don't like full backs with high defensive work rate and if I sold him I could buy Barcelona's Dembele who is an absolute monster and have change left.
LB: Firpo - Rofl, not a chance.
CB: IF/TOTW (In form/Team of the week) Koscielny - No, he's slow as shit.
CM: Busquets: No chance, far too slow.
CM: OTW (One to Watch) Ndombele. He can't shoot at all or really defend no matter what chemistry style you put on him so no.
CM: Dele Alli - 3 star weak foot, which is just a bit shit for an attacking player. 4 star makes a massive difference and 5 star is gold (see Barca Dembele).
RW: Antonio - He's only starting for chemistry reasons, so no.
LW: Fraser - He's good, but there are better, so no.
ST: Potm (player of the month) Pukki - Maybe. He is really good, but again he only has a 3 star weak foot so will be pretty useless in a relatively short space of time when the teams you face get better.

So my team is a bit shit and far inferior to what I could buy with coins, but I love them all, well apart from Antonio who is technically useless, but he gets subbed out for Martinez who is totes amazeballs, but again wouldn't be if I could buy who I want.

Other than not finishing the early access stuff I think I've done everything else available. It'd be a bit shit if that isn't a good enough run rate to get to level 30, but who knows.

I'm almost certain they'll end up not giving out enough for 30 or leaving it so tight that we'd have had to do everything.

Before the Score a Corner in Rivals objective I had not scored one in any game mode. I've now scored 4 in Rivals and come really close another few times, I seem to have found my groove with them.
