The game has been transformed for me by further experimenting with formations. Moved to a massively attacking 41212 wide and it’s the bees knees for movement, and not quite as bad defensively as I thought it would be. Lots of 3-4 goal hauls, and even moreso now I’ve swapped out TOTS Andre for TOTS Renato Sanches at CRM, Heat Dembele for Aouar up front and Heat Lenglet for Militao at the back, the latter mainly for Chem.

Dembele is an animal. He’s on 1 game, 1 goal, 1 assist at the moment, and has helped me get more out of Osimhen too, who is scoring 1.5 a game. Moving Flashback Modric up to CAM unleashed him properly too. Hardly played WL and went 1-2 on the Friday with my old team in a 433(4) but after adopting the 41212 and adding the aformentioned I won 7 in a row on the Sunday and have stacked up 7-5 in DR since (which is a sweaty mess still, mind).

They do that on purpose as well, with the nerf pace one year, then boost pace/nerf heading the next to keep the interest up. If heading worked in this it'd be as good a version as I've ever played, but it's utterly fucked and they've no intention of fixing it.

I almost let the heading off the hook* because the two things that annoy me more are firstly, as you allude to above, the obsession with pace in this. All the high quality cards are just identikit supermen with a different face drawn on. I don't want an Ibrahimovic with 94 fucking pace or whatever it is, I want him to be strolling about bossing things with technique. I don't want my best striker at this point to be some cunt called Florian Niederlechner who is such a non-entity that his Wikipedia page includes a bit about him sharing a flat with his mate because he presumably had one man of the match performance against FC Pilsner in the last six months so they boosted his stats including, you guessed it, fucking pace. What, he had borrowed Sonic's shoes that week and he was suddenly faster? Did they get Bolt in as a ringer and nobody noticed?

Secondly: Inconsistency. At least I know crossing and heading is almost always shit and a waste of time. Every failure to successfully do it basically goes the same way. But don't, game, pick and choose when you are and aren't going to do exactly what I've input on my controller. If I trundle a pass three yards to the nearest opponent because I mispress or something, fine, I'll hold my hands up to that. But if I hold the button down to hoof it into the space ahead of my speed demon don't flip a fucking virtual coin and go "lol not today mate" and also trundle a pass three yards to the nearest opponent. Either always take a laissez-faire attitude to the buttons I've pressed and put your own mong-brained spin on it or never do it and let me live and die solely by what I've pressed. Dipped back into Weekend League for the first time in 4 weeks and I've had my best run of the year, currently 11-3. I might call it there though, probably could get to 17 wins fairly easily but just don't fancy staying up ridiculously late to do so.

I played 94 Joe Bryan up front and he managed 15 goals and 11 assists in 14 games, one of which was a 2nd minute rage quit. TOTSSF Ben White was a monster at the back.

That Ben White is superb. I only played 5 or 6 games with him but would’ve kept him around were Bryan out at the time and Kalvin Phillips not so ludicrously expensive.

Did the Bundesliga/Serie A objectives in a straight 5 games in the end. Insigne is quality at CAM and Haaland was surprisingly good, particularly just being a big nuisance - despite lower physicals than Osimhen his frame and animations seem to keep him winning balls and hustling defenders to greater effect. Shame about the 3* WF.

My 3 TOTSF pulls... Felipe Anderson, Bafetimbi Gomis and Dean Henderson. Gomis got me mega excited with being a French striker too, thought Mbappe or Ben Yedder were on their way straight into my first team.

I am thinking no. I cant see there being much content in general once the CL/UEL are over.

I've been using Herrera a bit today for the TOTSSF pack objectives - he's been great. Proper box-to-box player and decent technique.

Must say - I've really enjoyed using the building and using the squads for those objectives. It's a shame it takes until the game is almost dead for you to have a squad which you're actually happy with and can make some interesting combinations.

Been playing all day

Sane isnt good at all. He does not feel that fast, his dribbling is maxed out yet he isnt great at dribbling and he isnt that strong either. Ive played him RW and he does nothing. My wide players don't do much goal scoring or assisting anyway. Not impressed. 5\10

Dembele is good from LW. He feels so agile with his dribbling and his fake shot into space is devasting. 8\10

Messi is playing as a CF in a false 9 and he is good. He isnt as fast as I thought he would be. He cant burst past defenders with a heavy touch.

Goretzka is my favourite card. Im playing him as a CM with the get forward instruction and he is amazing bursting from deep, with a first-time shot. Usually from a Messi assists.

From the bench, Kubo is ridiculous. He comes on and gets a goal or assist after 60 minutes
