There is some weird strain of evangelism amongst the gypos that he's right into, and when he first got a bit of prominence (and went mental) he was coming up with all sorts of lol quotes about women and paedophiles and that. He's probably saving the heel turn for the Anthony Joshua build-up.

The commentator on the stream I had was going right into 'HE'S TASTING HIS BLOOD!', when really he will have just been calling him a fanny and taunting him.
Wilder looks like a competition winner up to now.
And throughout.
Looking forward to Fury showing “AJ” up.

And I'm done.
Fury was absolutely brilliant throughout the fight. Seems that the hit that burst his ear drum was huge, really fucked Wilder up.
He absolutely destroys AJ if they do fight.
Edit: Singing American Pie during his post-fight interview :D
Would Fury / Joshua be that one sided? Genuine question, I don't watch any of it and am clueless.
niko_cee
23-02-2020, 03:06 PM
I think people underestimate Joshua now. They say he looked poor on the inside against Ruiz again (which he did), but I think that was as much to do with him being terrified to get in there as he knew it was the only way he could lose, as it was anything else. He's a more complete fighter than Wilder and let's not forget he KO'd Wlad in a right old tear up. I still think Fury wins as he's a more complete package, but I wouldn't see it being a walkover. Wilder probably runs him closer next time as I think he's gone into this massively underestimating him and basically been ambushed. Once things start going downhill in the heavyweight division it's almost impossible to right the ship even if you are lucky punch knockout merchant.
Hopefully Fury just lols his way through the division. No rematch clauses. I want to see the battle of the fat men Ruiz Jr v Fury.
Just finished the fight and it may have been a little bit different if Wilder didn't burst his ear drum. Fury is magnificent though. I'd love to see the match up with Joshua.
I think Fury would get into Joshua's head which would make him fight the fight Fury wants. Then he should outbox him (would anyway). Joshua has the dig though so be an interesting match up.
Spikey M
23-02-2020, 10:02 PM
I rated 'AJ' but the absolute shit show he had against Ruiz in the first match has marked him out as a bit of a fraud. Anyone can get knocked out by a lucky punch, so great boxers can lose, but he was completely out-boxed. Nobody that loses that easily to an emergency back-up stands a chance against someone like Fury.
It should also be pointed out that the Klitschko that 'AJ' beat was a very different animal to the one that tucked David Haye and his poorly toe into bed. He was a long way past his best.

What an absolute bellend. He appears to be claiming that his corner are under strict instructions to never throw the towel in too, which is also ridiculous. This isn't Rocky IV mate. Nobody is here to see you get the Apollo Creed treatment. Grow up.
Fury absolutely nailed it Saturday night. Clinical. It's a little bit awe-inspiring when you see a big man get it that right. The combination of movement and throwing his hands that well, scary stuff when it all comes together. I saw some ringside footage from one of the knockdowns and it both looked and sounded absolutely brutal.
I've almost zero interest in a third because (a motivated) Fury just does the exact same again. Wilder would need to make some serious adjustments to his style to compete (i.e. have more going for him than just a jackhammer of a right hand) and I don't think he's young enough or open-minded enough to make those adjustments. It's still going to happen though, isn't it.

25-02-2020, 02:22 PM
Once Fury got that clean shot and busted his ear open his equilibrium was too fucked to get any power behind any of his punches and, as a one trick pony, that was all she wrote.
It was almost uncomfortable the last few rounds because Wilder was clearly going through the motions at best. Corner did the right thing, unfortunately for him.
Fury did exactly what he needed to do. Bell rung and Fury literally sprinted at Wilder, probably throwing him off entirely from the get go. Once he got Wilder on his back foot it was roses.
I'd love to see AJ-Fury, which is ironic considering I feel like two years ago Wilder-AJ was going to be the most hyped fight of all time.

You have to hold your L and keep it pushing. The corner did nothing wrong. You have to protect the cash cow. Wilder is just looking for excuses. There seems to be similarities between AJs first defeat and Wilder's where both of them just didn't seem right as soon as their opponent landed the first punch. AJ directly didn't start making all these crazy excuses.

I don't have an answer.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2020/feb/26/deontay-wilder-blame-defeat-costume-tyson-fury-boxing
In other ways it’s a puzzle that Deontay’s gone for this line of mitigation. When David Haye claimed his 2011 defeat by Wladimir Klitschko was down to a broken little toe, he was widely pilloried, despite standing on a table to display the toe in question for the news cameras. Wilder may or may not have been aware of this pillorying when he produced his own whys-and-wherefores.
Then again, there is still time for him to reveal a broken little toe’s part in his downfall on Saturday night, and thus unify the biggest excuses in boxing. Arguably that would also involve some kind of rehash of Mike Tyson’s 10th-round KO by Buster Douglas in Tokyo in 1990. That, you might recall, was credited by Tyson to the excesses of his sexual diet. Or as Mike put it: “I was fucking them Japanese girls like I was eating grapes.”

The announcer is a nonce.
Long dreads (looked to be at least to his waist) on a white man are always the sign of a wrongun.
He makes up for it with his homage to Mr Kennedy (Kennedy).
Some third round from Joshua.

It's basically analogous to Eurovision taking over the mainstream. No one's ever going to put them back in their box because no one half decent wants to waste their time on such shit, much like no one of any standing [or even potential standing] enters the old song contest. To carry that comparison to it's logical conclusion, it probably falls to Usyk to end Paul.

If Boxing didn't want to be outdone by celebrity exhibitions it should try not running the sport as such. It's a classic industry trapped in thinking the 90s still exist. Hence why the only legit boxers who can get any promo are with Eddie Hearn.

Quick story as i saw this thread and had a flashback.
So there was some type of water leak at my parent's house a few weeks ago that required digging holes through concrete. The workman did the work but they were not nice to communicate too. They said its policy now, that they can't replace the old nice brickwork. They can only black tarmac it off which would look shit.
When workman used to come to my parent's house, my dad used to always give the workmen herb because in his words, "You have to slow the white boys down". My mom never agreed with his methods. Usually, on the second day of the job. The workmen would correct all the mistakes they made from the herb, and would do a better job overall as an appreciation type of thing. If that makes sense. Hoping for more herb.
In this instance, I don't smoke but I did make them some fritters . In the end, they didn't tarmac off the multiple holes they left. Instead, they put the nice coloured concrete bricks back in there original setup. Sometimes it's better to be nice to people even if they don't start that way with you. Dads a legend
I implied nothing apart from the truth.

It's a pantomime. He started late, probably has a had time getting serious bouts. And, for as serious as he's taking boxing, these exhibition bouts just scream, "I don't want to get hurt from this or lose because my subscriber count will go down."
It's all too careful to be taken genuinely.

Yeah presumed that the opponents have been hand picked, but this latest one was an MMA fighter (or something like that), so that must mean something in the ring.
Not when his fighting stance resembles that of a crab. The whole thing is pathetic. Floyd Mayweather wants shooting for getting involved.

That he needs to get battered to show him how not to undertake any given fight is a bit of a worry, although I wouldn't fully write him off until he gets donned in the rematch. That would be close to career ending you'd have to say.
He's always been a bit of a pleb though. Dillian Whyte had him seriously on the ropes in their fight before the stoppage. The appearance and the reality are often quite far apart with Joshua.

Yeah, his lack of ability really showed. Why on Earth did he bring his weight down that much?
Imo it shows he wasn't confident in knocking out Usyk at all and was rightfully scared that the gap in stamina and skill would show later in the fight.
I thought Usyk looked a bit shook around round 5/6 and Joshua turned the dominance, but it soon flipped again and the intensity just built and built.
I'm going to watch the fight again today cause I fucking loved it.
