Hearing Katie Taylor talk, you'd think she was the one getting routinely pummelled in the head.

Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia is on ITV 4 tonight, which seems a bit small time for what is almost certainly two of the top ten pound for pound boxers around at the moment.

This Nery v Arroyo fight on now is bedlam. Great stuff.

John
17-03-2019, 03:48 AM
As expected, Spence v Garcia is properly high level stuff.

EDIT - Obviously Garcia being seriously undersized at that weight played its part, but Errol Spence is a special fighter.

SincereTheRebel
17-03-2019, 05:18 AM
I wanted Garcia to win but it was too much to ask. Spence is humungous at the weight and used it as a huge advantage. Dominant performance from spence. Garcia was so poor.

I remember seeing an Imgur (of all places) breakdown of this Vasyl Lomachenko ages ago and thinking he looked pretty swish. How is anyone meant to beat him?

How is this geezer doing it? It's like he isn't even doing the same sport as his opponents.

SincereTheRebel

He is a special talent. No doubt about it. He is already up there with the gods for me in terms of skillset. He just needs to fight the opponents that will make his resume look great.

Also Crawford vs Khan is this weekend. To Khan's credit, ive never really seen him out boxed. No doubt it happenes this weekend.

SincereTheRebel
21-04-2019, 05:45 AM
Khan went down inside round one in which Crawford through a grand total of three punches. Khan didnt show his usual super fast speeds but he still cant throw punches from a standing posistion. Khan quit in the sixth after he felt a low blow. Claiming his legs locked up and couldnt move. I dont blame him.

Canelo vs Jacobs in 24 hours. Canelo the drugs cheat by Ko.

Baz
04-05-2019, 08:03 AM
In Vegas, Canelo could get knocked out in the first round and it’d still be a draw.

In fact, both are managed by the same company (DAZN) so a draw could happen for the money grab.

SincereTheRebel
05-05-2019, 03:43 AM
I don't know if Jacobs has a rematch clause (probably not) but Canelo defiantly does.

Canelo made a second-day weigh-in of 170 pounds but Jacobs failed his and must pay some fines. Jacobs had no interest in making the second day weigh in.

Wilder has come out and he has entered the ring looking like Shredder. He sounds way to upset for my liking during the build uo. He has made this personal. That is never a good thing.

Still, don't expect Brazil to survive.

SincereTheRebel
19-05-2019, 03:13 AM
Damm. It's over in around. Wilder hurt brazil and went in for the finish but got caught. Wilder was hurt bad and was on shaky legs. Took a minute to recover. He then sends a perfect left-right and Brazil collapses to the canvas. On his back. Lights out.

SincereTheRebel
19-05-2019, 03:16 AM
It looked similar to the tyson fury knockdown in the 12th. Could have easily been waved off. Brazil went down in thr same way, he even attempted to get up but referee waved it off.

AJ should dispatch of Ruiz quick, fast and in a fucking hurry. Ruiz os built like a slob. First time AJ fights in the USA. It shouldn't last long. Wilder cleaned his fight inside one round. Its over to AJ now and the. Fury in a few weeks.

Wilder has already announced a Ortiz rematch and Fury after that so the mega fight isn't happening for another year.

Not really sure about Joshua's 'minor setback' comments. It's a bit more than that lad.

Rematch is surely made for a Las Vegas headline event now, or have a trilogy with fights in London and, if Joshua wins in London, a decider in Mexico City.

Ian
03-06-2019, 08:48 AM
I think the thing I saw said the rematch clause stipulates it'll be a UK fight.

The rematch clause Joshua never even asked about because he was so confident.

niko_cee
03-06-2019, 08:50 AM
Yeah, I assumed it would be in the UK, I was just thinking, if you want to make your name in America, then this is the chance to do it (or, do it better maybe).

Ian
03-06-2019, 08:55 AM
Given he's, as you say, trying to pretend like this result isn't a big deal he's presumably hoping to obliterate Ruiz on home turf so he can say that he's BACK and then have another go at the States.

It would be ballsier to do the rematch in Murica though.

SincereTheRebel
03-06-2019, 09:14 AM
Its a massaive setback. A minor setuback would be if he got sparked with one-punch and it was lights out and he was winning. He was throughly beaten during the course of the whole fight. That hurts way more than a KO in a competative fight. Its an embarassment.

Event was good. Loma really is a special talent. He didn't see to get off as he usually does but he won clearly.

Mikey is the only real challenge for him but that is going out of a weight class which i never like to force on fighters. He destroys fat tank. Tank does not have the work ethic to keep up with Loma

I know it's all the rage to be up on these things, but with Rob McCracken being hauled over the coals for saying he knew Joshua was 'concussed' against Ruiz, surely calls for a 'concussion protocol' in boxing sort of miss the entire point of the sport.

Why have I only just read about this fight? Sidon v Valuev… looks like the ref stops the fight near the end of the 3rd as Sidon as taking a fair few hits, and not defending that much - however, he wants to continue, and after some persuasion Valuev agrees. It looks like the ref refs the next round, but then gives up. They fight the last 2 rounds with no ref :D

It's professional boxing, not having a scrap in the street.

He probably showed him too much respect, but he didn't show him enough last time and this was the sure fire way to win. If you can actually box you don't need to make it a scrap. Fight to your own strengths.

Spikey M

Calculated performance from AJ. He picked a great strategy. His inability to trade on the inside though is worrying. He does nothing that convinces me he beats wilder or fury.

Wilder can't box, Joshua can't really take a shot all that well. Can Wilder? It'd be interesting to see who's short-comings win out.

SincereTheRebel

He losses most round in most fights and still finds the right time to clip his opponent. The best defensive fighter in fury got clipped twice. AJ lunch resistance isnt that great and he gets touched in most of his elite fights. Pov was hitting him with right hands on a consistent basis.

I am sitting here watching a Deontay Wilder knockout compilation, and is it fair to suggest that his power is a bit overrated? He can obviously whack people, but it seems to me that it is more the case that he is simply lanky enough to throw decent shots over/through defensive positions at a safe distance than he is able to generate freakish Mike Tyson/George Foreman standing force. I suspect if you measured it it would be relatively normal.

Fat old Foreman is bizarre to watch. It's like he's punching underwater and still knocking people out.

I would have considered sitting up and finding a stream such is THE HYPE and then I saw it'd be starting at 4am or something so fuck that.

Is Wilder as much of a one-trick pony who isn't actually that good at boxing as some of the stuff I've seen would lead me to believe? it makes it sound like he just does enough to stay out of harms way until he lands one brutish hit.

John
22-02-2020, 12:28 AM

The fact that wilder, in nearly every fight loses round after round and still ends up with his arm being raised and his opponent on the canvas. Make him even more dangerous. I think Fury can pull it off though this time. Wilder is a freak though. At this point, AJ seems the weakest of the three.

Isn't it all about selling US pay per views, which means they need to have it on at a time when people are home from the bar/saloon/frat party?

Overseas market will be tiny compared to that.

UK just doesn't really do PPV buys.

Joshua/Ruiz started at like 9pm UK time as well so it's prime viewing time.

Compared to America:

https://www.businessinsider.com/the-50-best-selling-pay-per-view-events-boxing-ufc-wrestling-tv-history-2017-8?r=US&IR=T#2-floyd-mayweather-v-conor-mcgregor-43-million-ppv-buys-54 (doesn't include McGregor's last fight for the UFC with the event getting around 2m buys).
