There is some serious wasted potential on show in that Portugal squad. United have been linked to that Joao Mario, which can only mean that Nicolas Gaitan has died, so let's see how terrible he is.

Reg

Isn't Carvalho about seventy-two? I saw him on the Euro fantasy league and thought something must be up.

Turns out he's 38. I thought Monaco were decent.

Jimmy Floyd

Nah. Scraped third in the worst French league ever, which in itself is saying something.

CJay

He's relied on cheating and fouling to cover his lack of pace for about 10 years already, so his age probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Anyone fancies it, there are still places on P&O Ferries from Dover on the 15th/16th.

He really should be going instead of Sturridge who isn't for tournament football.

niko_cee
24-05-2016, 07:12 AM
Sturridge is such a odd one. I think his goals per minute played stat/ratio is still (around) the best in the league this season. No idea where he fits for England - but if they are thinking of playing two strikers he's a cut above most. The cuts should probably be coming from midfield, especially if the fatman is considered one these days. Delph, Barkley and Andros maybe, or anyone who isn't fit, or Milner/Lallana (would they really be missed?). Rashford hasn't really been good enough for long enough to be in the argument, but he's timed his form well enough and there is a fair bit of dross in the squad. Severely doubt he'll play if picked.

Italy (30)
Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Federico Marchetti (Lazio), Salvatore Sirigu (Paris Saint-Germain);

Defenders: Davide Astori (Fiorentina), Andrea Barzagli (Juventus), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Matteo Darmian (Manchester United), Mattia De Sciglio (AC Milan), Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham), Daniele Rugani (Juventus)

Midfielders: Marco Benassi (Torino), Federico Bernardeschi (Fiorentina), Giacomo Bonaventura (Milan), Antonio Candreva (Lazio), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Stephan El Shaarawy (Roma), Alessandro Florenzi (Roma), Emanuele Giaccherini (Bologna), Jorge Luiz Jorginho (Napoli), Riccardo Montolivo (Milan), Thiago Motta (Paris Saint Germain), Marco Parolo (Lazio), Stefano Sturaro (Juventus), Davide Zappacosta (Torino)

Forwards: Eder (Inter), Ciro Immobile (Torino), Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli), Graziano Pelle (Southampton), Simone Zaza (Juventus)

Injuries have ruled out Alan Dzagoev (Russia), Marc Wilson (Ireland) and Renato Steffan (Switzerland) this week. Adil Rami has been called up for France's pre-Euros games, but he's just a placeholder for Raphael Varane, who hasn't been ruled out of the tournament yet.

So from the original 25, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Juanfran, Koké, Isco, Niguez and Lucas Vazquez have been left out, with Bellerin and Aduriz added.

England are declaring their final 23 today - I reckon Drinkwater and Townsend will be the two cut. Sterling's played both of the warmup games so far, Townsend only got fifteen minutes at Stadium of Light on Friday.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/news/234280/england-fans-will-have-no-chance-hitler-loving-moscow-football-hooligans-vow-to-wage-war-on-brit-fans-in-euro-2016/

Last night hooligan Yuri, who was contacted via a Facebook page glorifying
Russian football violence, said many thugs worked out in special training
camps to hone their fighting skills.

He revealed: “We are hard men, many from the army and police.

“Not soft English men in their Lacoste clothes and girls’ shoes. Fans
from all clubs, Moscow, St Petersburg, anywhere, will all be on same side.

“We fight in the woods and train and fight at matches. England fans will have
no chance. Russia is number one.

I've always said that football hooliganism was only contained in England.

Then you're a numpty. These days it's been pretty much eradicated here, while on the continent and elsewhere it's still pretty widespread. The instance last night was a group of locals attacking a bar with England fans in it. I'm not sure what you're expecting to happen in that situation.

"Please desist in besmirching me and step away, young sir. I do declare."

Contained in the sense that the riot police who separate fans at matches don't let it happen. Not in the sense that it only exists there.

To portray them as an innocent party because there were locals involved as well in this instance is absurd.

According to the first link it looks like some porn baron has been jailed and his empire picked apart (including child porn and 'human rights abuses') and one of said exploited women shagged Muniain in a hotel room and had extended messages with de Gea, via this porn baron.

I can't nail down the fine detail, my Spanish isn't good enough.

Basically.

Allegedly two women (the one testifying and one more) were taken to a hotel room by Torbe, where they were told to do whatever the two football players (Muniain and someone she can't pinpoint) wanted, and that they would get paid a lot for it. She says they refused but were then forced to do it regardless (they also didn't get any money.) De Gea organized the whole thing supposedly.

After the encounter the woman testifying seemingly kept in touch with De Gea via WhatsApp to try to get him to tell her the identity of the other player. He supposedly told her he was a Bilbao player, nothing more. Then De Gea allegedly asked her is she wanted to participate in a similar, erm, 'event' to the one described above with five United players (including De Gea) but there is no evidence of that event ever occurring.

There is some more about Torbe drugging and raping another witness, a minor, and also making her record some videos that were supposed to be sent to De Gea and other Athletic players.
