I bit the bullet last night and had a good mooch around the database. I've picked out the below for potential saves.
Ross County
AS Saint-Étienne
Anderlecht
Fortuna Sittard
Como 1907
Racing Santander
Górnik Zabrze
Rubin Kazan
Vélez Sarsfield
This got me thinking about starting a new save now the real game is out. Thinking some dogshit lower tier team with very good facilities/unreal youth recruitment in a competitive country. Will have a scour about - might just cheat and use the editor to max out the youth facilities.

Saint-Etienne are always good fun.
St Etienne also have a decent English goalie named Etienne Green, which has some wonderful symmetry.

I hadn't realised they were 1-25 shots for winning the league. The first year should be an absolute cake. £9m in the bank with £1.3m transfer budget - though I have turned that all into wages signing free transfers and getting loans in.
Fernando Llorente () my first signing which means we are going to a 4-4-2 with him being the target man. Proper soccer.

They already have Ibai Gomez who looks absolutely ridiculous at that level. I’ll be gutted if he doesn’t get at least 20 assists to Llorente alone. 18,000 season ticket holders, not a chance we shouldn’t be getting back to back promotions.

Had a play around on the demo, once again it's just going to take far too long and be far too difficult for me to bother. A shame as I'd still like to play as an intellectual exercise / bit of fun.
I tried with '20 or '21 because they go onto Game Pass but I just can't do it these days.

Can you not just let your assistants and DOF handle the majority of stuff? All I do is tactics, signings and try find random wonderkids. 2D classic and Key highlights only. Can get through a season in a couple of days. Probably even sooner if I didn’t spend ages redoing my squad every summer because I’m addicted to signing players

That's the way I do it as well and it really isn't that bad as a result. Even though the game is still throwing a million messages at you in an attempt to be a sodding email simulator you quickly get used to ignoring the pointless ones/scanning for what you need from each one.

Yeah same for me. It used to be that the assistant would say the wrong things in press conferences and the likes, that would displease players etc, but in the last few versions it looks like it doesn't matter at all, as if it's SI's concealed way of turning the feature off.

It’s too much work to even get all that assistant stuff set up now from what I can see. There should be an option for all that when you’re starting a new game.

There is. You set it in your manager profile and can use that profile from game to game.

Took over Wrexham, following all the Reynolds/McElhenney takeover hype and the first season went pretty well:
https://i.gyazo.com/eb0e4c156b598011bfebf76454a8d97a.png
It was scary at times, with us being 5 points behind Chesterfield in January, but (as is usually the case in every version of this game honestly) their form really declined and we ended up building a massive lead (was up to 13 points at one time). What this picture doesn't tell you was my approach, which was all out attack, so we ended with 122 goals scored and no fewer than 64 conceded (12th worst in the league). We also exceeded expectations in the FA Cup where we made it to the third round proper, getting knocked out by Bristol City, after what was quite a competitive game.
https://i.gyazo.com/2bd4fd2f16e34375436b85d7a13d33a2.png
A somewhat standard diamond formation, with attacking mentality positioned all the way up the pitch (hence the high number of goals scored/conceded). Mullin was actually the star of the show, even breaking the goalscoring record with 38 league goals, however he left it until the last possible moment, with a goal in the last game, after only scoring 2 in the previous 10. It's not usually the case in my first season at low-tier clubs, but most of the players in the first XI were already at Wrexham. My signings being Tzanev (who's actually been playing for the New Zealand national team fairly regularly), Dasilva, McEachran and Sinclair.
Having now played a season, I really don't think the game is as bad. It's average at best, but not much worse than the last X versions. The ME maybe even feels slightly better than last year's although I am not one of the guys trying to find all the weaknesses through tactics.

So my scouting has broken yet again, this time in a new way.
All my scouts have retained the places where I sent them but now almost all of them are currently scouting in Portugal for some reason.
I have 15 scout assignments and 8 of them are currently scouting in Portugal. Only one of which has clearance to be there.

He's not been very good for me. Probably doesn't work in my tactic, though the truth is also that I only reallly gave him a chance in the first few games, where he failed to impress, and then I signed Sinclair who instantly hit the ground running.

Sampdoria 2028/29 Season Update:
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/X3fXgQW.png
Huge amount of outs with lots of money made, here are some of them:
https://i.imgur.com/ZchFXFo.png
We also sold this guy at the end of last year before the season ticked over. Very good backup who could play in every defensive position but I didn't think he was good enough to ever be starting games.
https://i.imgur.com/GxytrSV.png
One of our starting CM's who had been at the club since before I got here, he's done really well but I thought our youth behind him could be better if given time.
https://i.imgur.com/UlCEMQ7.png
Our starting LB for the last couple of seasons, hasn't really progressed so I think he's probably at his best which isn't good enough.
https://i.imgur.com/rUhIlwe.png
Our starting GK and he had really pissed me off in the previous season. He conceded so many and lost us a lot of points and he was constantly moaning so I cashed in.
https://i.imgur.com/04VNGxD.png
Our starting RB for the last 3 seasons, much like Klapan, I felt he had stopped progressing. Might have been a risk letting him go as he's really good going forward and he had a lot of assists.
https://i.imgur.com/n0ERHpM.png
I liked Gethin and was trying to get him minutes whenever I could but he became a moany bastard so I gave up on him. It says a lot that Racing paid £19.75m for him in the Summer and they sold him in January for just £7.75m.
https://i.imgur.com/WHtnjDC.png
He scored well for us but he could never force himself into the first 11 so I decided to take the cash on him.
https://i.imgur.com/mAO9T6H.png
I didn't want to sell Coppola but Bayern offered big money, he wanted to go and it was upsetting my squad that I was originally resisting.
https://i.imgur.com/xNyAHqp.png
One of my former "boys", I signed him for £8.5m then had him sold from under me as Atalanta paid his release clause of £45m, I then signed him back for £45m and this time decided to sell him on myself. Baturina is great but I felt he wasn't as good as the price tag on him especially as I had some big names I planned on bringing in.
https://i.imgur.com/XCsZklH.png
He was my starter this season for the first half and he had been performing well but I was worried he was outperforming his attributes and he'd soon turn to crap, he doesn't have much other than speed so I was ok selling him.
https://i.imgur.com/wN7bKLQ.png
I feel £34m is a little light for him but he was starting this year and doing nothing so I felt the cash was the right option.
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/pDezoea.png
https://i.imgur.com/o97doc3.png
He had come up a lot on my scout reports for the last couple of years and I did want to pick him up but I had to wait for the right year due to the wonky non-EU rules in Italy. Not sure he'll play too much for us as he's a class no nonsense guy but I don't play with one. I'll probably loan him out a bit before selling him in a year or two.
https://i.imgur.com/bnXMIXq.png
He's not rapid like Saul who I sold but he's solid. He's done really well since becoming the starter and at 17 he's only going to grow into the role.
https://i.imgur.com/FF8BfwI.png
I signed this guy when I was using a 4-3-1-2 as I thought he'd be incredible at AMC but I moved to a flat 4-3-3 and I just don't think he'll be good enough to start up front due to his shit finishing. His value has boomed so I will be able to make a mint on him at the very least.
https://i.imgur.com/44oMhOC.png
Our new starting LB and he's been so good, he's maybe a little suspect at defending but going forward he's so dangerous.
https://i.imgur.com/eJXf0ce.png
Needed a backup GK so bought this American/Italian. He's pretty raw but he's done ok in his limited game time.
https://i.imgur.com/GnMMDj2.png
I missed out on an UBER striker to Dortmund in the Summer (who I will try and sign this year) so I signed this guy instead hoping he'd be a bonkers finisher. He's been incredibly underwhelming in his game time so far. Hopefully a loan move to a club who plays him constantly will help him.
https://i.imgur.com/lhVuwkE.png
A big money signing which my scouts heavily recommended. Could be an amazing DLP.
https://i.imgur.com/RTlsCnG.png
Our record signing and I think he could end up being one of the best in football in a year or two. I love him.
https://i.imgur.com/bUl578X.png
Fee was a bit hefty but I like him and he can play in CM too.
https://i.imgur.com/pI4GIAn.png
Another I thought who would be an amazing AMC but my tactic changed, I think he's more likely to be a ST for us than Mendoza though.
https://i.imgur.com/RQ1T7fT.png
Only £14m which I felt was a steal, his finishing is wonky and we don't play with widemen which is where he'll be at his best but I think we could make a shit ton of money on him.
https://i.imgur.com/AWDs8yP.png
Needed a backup RB and I had been chasing this guy since the Summer, £4.5m is a steal.
League:
https://i.imgur.com/NK7EXVz.png
Just seen that Bologna and Sassuolo haven't played their final game. Bologna won 3-0, the table didn't change.
https://i.imgur.com/k0uxnEp.png
https://i.imgur.com/s3ho5jR.png
We had a bit of a wobbly first half as our strikers just struggled to score but a change in formation helped us massively as did Moukoko turning into a God. We were so close to winning it but we were struggling for fitness so much in April and May and I think it caught up with us a little.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/awB2uZQ.png
Board are happy so whatever.
Europa League:
https://i.imgur.com/NiLQLsx.png
We had a much easier draw this time and I rotated a bit too much at times, we went into the final game outside of the top 8 and almost had to play in the play-offs.
Round of 16:
https://i.imgur.com/fKMg1ZO.png
https://i.imgur.com/v0gqhTq.png
I rested a lot of players for the second leg and after the first half in the second leg I was sure the game had decided that we were losing. I made 5 changes in the 59th minute and even though one of those subs scored an own goal we managed to take the win in regular time (with said sub getting some redemption).
Quarter-Final:
https://i.imgur.com/TtE6nC2.png
https://i.imgur.com/9S8gRVw.png
Relatively simple two legs, we were always in control and it was nice not to have my heart rate jump through the roof.
Semi-Final:
https://i.imgur.com/gPwRtX9.png
https://i.imgur.com/rSyWHVu.png
When Dwight McNeil (lol) and Eze scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the second leg I was sure we were going to get pumped but they awoke the God that is Moukoko. He even missed a couple of sitters late on too.
Final:
https://i.imgur.com/rYSVY3h.png
We were struggling in the 65th minute onwards with fitness but I decided to keep my boys on and make changes (I had made 3 throughout the game) at the start of extra time. Idea was that half fit starters were better than fit reserves at potentially grabbing a winner and having more fresh players would be better if extra time happened. I was right and Moukoko the don won it for us.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/aXSH3Iu.png
It's a much more streamlined first team squad now with more youth filling up bench spots. I'm really liking the front 3 of Arrocha, Moukoko and Kauffman but someone else needs to step up (I may also buy an UBER striker who I wanted last year) so I don't feel that the front 3 have to play every game.

Powered through another season at Wrexham:
https://i.gyazo.com/f5b8d9b08e85666b058b8817b7e8789c.png
It looks closer than it actually was, with us being at the top since December, with even double digit leads at times. We suffered a major injury crisis towards the end, with most of our attacking players getting injured, which allowed Swindon to catch-up and make us sweat a bit, but in the end we'd already built enough of a lead to see us through to the end. It is also worth mentioning that if the xpts table is to be taken at face value (I know), we should have finished 12 points ahead of Crewe in 2nd, with Swindon having 27 (!) fewer points. As for our actual performance, we were the best team in the vast majority of our games. We corrected our defensive issues (mostly due to our focus on defensive signings), however this time around our attacking efforts left a lot to be desired, with just 81 goals in 46 games (still the best attack in the league by some margin, mind you). We also performed admirably in all the cups, eventually losing to higher division teams.
https://i.gyazo.com/f0269aa316c11f5bcfbef1cfe9bb3cfc.png
As you can see here, while our strikers did score a fair amount of goals between them, they were nowhere near last season's levels, with Lee actually finishing as our top scorer from an attacking midfielder position. I've already lined up some juicy signings for next season so hopefully we're in for another improvement, even if it doesn't end up with a promotion this time around.

I started a game with Worthing in the conference south.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8817/YtqOMf.png
I lived in Worthing for a bit about a decade ago and this is the first time (to my knowledge) that they've ever been high enough in non league to be manageable in FM.
The season started very badly with 1 point form the first 3 games leaving us bottom of the league. At that point I was expecting a very tough first season, the squad wasn't great and there was no money in the wage budget to bring anyone in.
I manged to shift some dross though and gradually through the season we improved, and by January we were in the playoffs.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/79/u5ZGwH.png
A strong second half of the season saw us finish 2nd and make it to the FA Trophy final.
It all ended in disappointment however as we lost the play off final 8-7 on penalties after largely outplaying Bath City who only managed 1 shot on target in the entire 120 minutes.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9920/YyxoYg.png
We also lost the FA Trophy final to Southend 1-0

Our team of the year.
Ollie Pearce was also the leagues top scorer.

28/29 has been one hell of a season. First, I was dead sure I was on my way out in the CL semis. Real was dominating me for the first 60 minutes and were 3-1 up, making it 4-3 on aggregate. Then my German (but actually not really German) regen striker stepped up for his big break:
https://i.imgur.com/fs6angt.png
https://i.imgur.com/ktRIz1o.png
 Deserved over the two legs honestly.
In the league it was even crazier. I had been far behind Juve for a while, but slowly crept closer. Final day and we were on the same points but they had won against me which put them ahead. They faced a Roma fighting for survival, while I had to deal with Genoa:

https://i.imgur.com/Q2Dvv2m.png
I missed out on the UBER striker that I posted further up so I decided to splash some cash on this guy. Not nearly as good currently but my scouts think he could be at the same sort of level potentially. This guy probably fits my tactic better too and he has done well albeit less so in the goals department and more so his work for the team.
https://i.imgur.com/HnXsmrV.png
I didn't need another backup RB but I couldn't say no for only £1.5m.
https://i.imgur.com/lrfgCLW.png
I had a couple of injuries in CM around December and we were lacking a little in numbers so I decided to bring him in. He was really cheap and he's already better than a 21 year old I had loaned out this year.
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/w7tK5UO.png
So few this year that I was able to include the loans too. Here are a select few:
https://i.imgur.com/v93ajom.png
He had scored some big goals in some games a few seasons ago but I knew he'd never really make the grade. £20m might have been a little low (especially as we have no sell on clause) but we did only sign him for £6m.
https://i.imgur.com/VZYHlLq.png
I really liked this guy and I wasn't sure about selling him but it was the right decision. He's a natural AMC and only accomplished at CM, had I still played with an AMC in my tactic I'd have likely kept him as a backup.
https://i.imgur.com/KxJ4mEB.png
I signed him for £2.9m when he was 18 and I thought he'd be incredible but because of the non-EU rules it took him a couple of seasons before he could get registered. By that time his development had stalled a touch (although he did have a couple of successful loan spells) and I had bought new CBs that were better and younger than him.
League:

https://i.imgur.com/ROeJYjz.png
We came close last year but stumbled at the wrong time. This year though it was never in doubt, we had our best start ever (it's usually one of our weaknesses) and never really let up. We did have a wobble in March and April but I was rotating a lot and at worst we had an 8 point gap and at best it was 14 with a game in hand. I felt we were helped by having 4 decent teams chasing us but none of those being good enough to break free from that pack to test us.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/Vk7k6ax.png
Our best run in the cup so far and I feel we were cheated. During the first leg of the semi-final I felt we were cheated as it was during an international break and we lost so many players whilst Inter barely lost any. I have no idea how it wasn't postponed and the xG was basically even but my reserve keeper seems to be shit.
Super Cup:
Our Europa League win last year put us up against PSG the match details have been lost now but we got smacked 4-2. Their front 4 of Mbappe, Musiala, Pedri and Hungarian Messi was too much for us.
Europe:
League Phase:

As I mentioned before the Qarabag result is probably my worst ever but despite that we did well. We went down to 10 against City but my keeper pulled off some heroics, we battered Arsenal but lost due to a late goal and we fought hard against Liverpool. The other games we were great and went through to the playoffs.

These two games shaved many years off my life. The first was tight and I thought we had a 2 goal lead to take to London but Spurs had other ideas.
In the second leg just as I was gearing up for extra time Nicolas Gonzalez gives them the lead and I thought we were done as our players were tired but I well all out attacking and we won a penalty which Moukoko dispatched. In extra time we were the better side but some dodgy defending allowed Kane to score. Thankfully not long after my keeper punted the ball up field to my fresh pacey striker who lobbed the rushing keeper which sent it to penalties.
My keeper has been a bit of a beast at saving penalties especially this year so I felt confident until our final 2 penalty takers stepped up as I was sure the pressure would make the 2 youngsters (a 16 and an 18 year old) crumble but they didn't and then my keeper made a fine save to send us through.
Quarter Final:

After the first leg I was sure we were out as we hadn't played well but we rose to the occasion and did what we needed to do. I was a little scared when Casadei missed his first ever penalty against his old club but Kauffman put it to bed not long after.
Semi Final:
https://i.imgur.com/dwG3ZSv.png
https://i.imgur.com/xY3134X.png
We played Liverpool in the groups and 37 year old Mo Salah dominated us in a back and forth battle. I was sure that the 1 goal lead heading into Anfield wouldn't be enough, especially as the team was tired and heavily rotated going into the match but my boy Watkinson (who had ended a 13 hour goal drought in the first leg) scored the only goal in a boring match to send us through.
Final:
https://i.imgur.com/SusFZcy.png
Even though we only lost 1-0 on the night we were never really in it. Moukoko, who had just returned from a twisted ankle, broke his wrist early and we struggled to break them down. I think we only had 2 or 3 highlights throughout as it seemed to be all Barca. They also hit the woodwork 3 times and had it not been for my keeper (who was named best GK) it would have been a lot more.
An annoying defeat to end our run but I'm proud of what we accomplished.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/VY5HDuq.png
Moukoko again our main source of goals where he was top scorer in the league (with only 25) and also the Champions League (17). He scored 4 fewer than last year but he played in 4 fewer games and he had more assists this year. I also think that I have let a few too many out the door lately and the squad is too thin right now although we did have some big injuries with our starting LB Kim Dara (broken leg), starting CM Desire Doue (shin splints) and starting ST Matthias Kauffman (broken ankle) missing at least a month.

Worthing - 2023-24 Season
We managed to not only keep all but one of the players we wanted to after our Playoff disappointment last season (our best CB decided to go play in Northern Ireland for 3x what I could offer him), but we managed to convince nearly everyone to take a pay cut as well. This meant that there was some money in the wage budget so bring in a few reinforcements for the title challenge.
Most notable was Davide Rodari who had banged in 25 in 30 games for Dartford last season on loan from Crawley. He came in to be our new star striker and as it turned out he'd already had a spell on loan with us a couple of seasons ago.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3617/emxnQO.png
I had expected him and last seasons top scored and club record goal scorer Ollie Pearce to be a formidable partnership up front, but early doors Pearce forgot how to kick a football, netting just 1 goal in the first 2 months of the season.
Rodari wasn't much better, happily bagging a hattrick against a Sunday League side in the FA Cup to pad his stats but being wildly inconsistent.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7089/hOlgLH.png
Ibby Akanbi not wanting to be replaced (and despite being rubbish) however continued to be an unlikely goal machine, and got us progressing up the table after another terrible start had left us in the bottom half after the first 5 games.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7320/RqTEH9.png
By January we had hit our stride, and the top of the table. We also made it to the FA Cup 1st round but we knocked out 2-1 by League One Cambridge United
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4966/4uxCXz.png
Despite a couple of wobbles and at one point blowing an 8 point lead we held on to top spot for the rest of the season. Ebbsfleet United's 95 points would have been enough for the title last season, but having run us close they lost 3 of their last 5 games meaning it was a comfortable finish to the season for us.
105 points was also a new club and league record, and we also matched the record for most wins.
We made it to the semi finals of the FA Trophy but missed out on a second consecutive final, being knocked out 4-3 on aggregate by Aldershot town who finished 2nd in the VNL.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1879/DAdwOL.png
Rodari was our signing of the season, ending up with 31 goals and 11 assists but the board apparently resent paying the man £450 a week
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7971/8WiRU4.png
Akanbi maintained his form to hit an impressive 44 goals netting him the golden boot and player of the year awards. Pearce also eventually found his form and ended the season with 24 goals and 15 assists
Jonathan Dinzeyi proved to be an absolute monster from set pieces bagging himself 16 goals from CB.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2743/EPQSVX.png
Promotion also means that the stadium needs some work, but it sounds like this is only going to decrease our gate receipts next season.

we're in for another improvement, even if it doesn't end up with a promotion this time around.
Never in doubt:

Third consecutive promotion and our most dominant performance yet. We were quite undoubtedly the best team in the league, and what makes it all the more exciting is that the core of the team stayed the same as last season. Of course we improved here and there, especially defensively, but it's just nice to see that we still have a few players from when we were in the Conference still at the club and featuring fairly regularly:
https://i.gyazo.com/53ba5df0a60688cd7bd736613770c0ad.png
Mullin being the best example of those. He scored big yet again, and singlehandedly won us a few games. In fact, he was 11 goals ahead of second place in the league and joint top on assists. Just impressive for a player that was in the Conference League just 2 seasons ago. O'Leary was massive between the posts once again and contributed a lot to our 10-point difference, superkeeping the opposition at times.
The problem is, I don't think we have what it takes to cut it in the Championship, our stadium is small, our squad probably needs several improvements and we are 2m in the red. But I guess, with such a dominant performance this season, more of the same would most probably see us clear of relegation, even if slightly.

I haven't spent a lot of time on them to be honest. The only ones I have actually set up are corners and that's only so far as aiming all corners near post and having the CBs attacking near post and far post.
Most of Dinzeyi's goals have been from corners and he's the one attacking near post.

Another season done and it went better than expected.
https://i.gyazo.com/967cc3cd16ff50753830a81b228a806f.png
We ended up almost making the playoffs in the end, but lost to Peterborough in the penultimate game after being 2 goals up, which all but sealed our fate really. That said, we spent the biggest part of the season at around 10th place, so it would have been undeserved if we made it really. We went back to how we played in my very first season at the club, with a horrendous defence (75 goals, second worst in the league), being propped up by a really good and efficient attack (92 goals, best in the league). It seems like we've hit sort of a temporary ceiling though, what with us having the 3rd lowest wage budget (which shall remain the same next season) and losing money left, right and centre.
https://i.gyazo.com/edf628484d864ac129ecbff12624da13.png
Only Mumba, Hall and Kane were new to the club this season and the last two are only really in that 11 just because we just didn't have better options. So in the end Mumba was our only real signing of note this season and even he was a weird one, as he was absolutely horrible for the first 3 months or so, but we were stuck with him since our other right back was injured. The moment said injury was over, Mumba really picked up his game. Up front, none of the 3 players were consistent, but they sort of took turns with the goals, so it worked out in the end. Much like my previous few updates, praise has to go to Mullin just for the fact that he was with us in the Conference and he's still one of the first names on the sheet.
As I said, I am not expecting us to get any better in terms of personnel next season, so I will probably have to work out something defensively. I will probably have to start from set-pieces seeing as we conceded tons from corners and the likes. We are also very susceptible to good old long ball.

I don't really mind it all that much to be honest, or else I wouldn't have started a game like that. I just wasn't expecting to basically get no money whatsoever for my second season in the league. With Leicester not wanting to loan Sertdemir back to me for a third consecutive reason (they want him to get different experiences, which I found a decent little feature), it's quite possible that we will end up with a worse team on paper.

Worthing 2024/25 Season
Our first season in the Vanarama National League was a bit of a rollercoaster. We had a huge turn over of players ending the season with just one 1st choice player who was with us last season and going through 3 goalkeepers over the course of the year.
Promotion enabled us to attract a higher standard player, but this also threatened a number of our existing players who felt their first team places were under threat. Most notably these players included last seasons unexpected goal machine Akanbi who decided to leave the club despite still being in the team and scoring a couple of goals in the early games.
This high turnover of players and discord in the squad contributed to our now expected terrible start to the season. Unlike the last two seasons however this slow start was not so easily shaken off.
After 19 games and after a great deal of tactical tinkering to try and change our fortunes, in freefall down the table we found ourselves in the relegation zone. We were dominating possession in most of our games and were 3rd in the xG table, so at this point I caved and downloaded a tactic. It's not so different to what I had been doing myself and is a pretty basic 4-4-2. Despite playing this game for over a quarter of a centaury at I still struggle to understand what is and isn't working tactically, maybe we would have turned things around anyway with my own tactics as we were seemingly playing well but the difference once we switched tactics is pretty stark. See if you can spot it.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8996/lvZY7t.png
Ultimately we finished in the playoffs and made it to the 4th rounds of both the FA Trophy and FA Cup
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9212/dRlljv.png
We ended the season losing to Oldham in the Playoff Semi Final, but it was a good first season at this level we ended up topping the xG table and we can go into next season with a good chance of promotion.

Sampdoria 2030/31 Season Update:
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/FGdUxDA.png
https://i.imgur.com/G1QvKQQ.png
I liked Felipe but he never managed to force himself into the team and he was operating at full potential according to my coaches so I sold him. Probably for a little too cheap though, especially as he's been great in Ligue 1.
https://i.imgur.com/DLhEWgg.png
Signed him for cheap but he's never threatened to break into the team so I cashed in.
https://i.imgur.com/wZWwQrE.png
I did not want him to go but he asked to leave and said he would leave at the end of his contract in a couple of years so I offered him out. He then asked to be removed from the transfer list as soon as I found an offer for him so I accepted and rejected the offer. The very next day he came back into my office saying I had broken promises so he wanted back on the list.
https://i.imgur.com/cHYDhZj.png
I was close to selling my number 1 CB when Man City went big but I ended up rejecting it and selling my number 2 CB. The offer was almost double his transfer value and I felt our third and fourth choices were very close to him in terms of ability and they have potential to become better unlike Cian.
Transfers In:

Didn't have any decent youth LB's so I went shopping. Scouts were raving and he was fairly cheap from someone in the division. He's done well when given minutes for the first team and he's been incredible for the U20s.
https://i.imgur.com/kvJvf4W.png
Another cheapish defender from a team in the division. I think he could be class.
https://i.imgur.com/M5CPA4p.png
Didn't need a CM but he was transfer listed and I couldn't say no to someone who was happy to be a squad player who is listed by my scouts as a leading Serie A player who could be World Class.
https://i.imgur.com/J10GWGW.png
He's a pretty green 21 year old but he's natural as a LB and RB and my scouts do think he'll be a good Serie A player.
https://i.imgur.com/RlLlGKx.png
A scout pick. He has done well in the U20s so far.

I have been following Joost for a while but never made the move as I didn't think he fit into my team and Arsenal wanted too much. They lowered his price and listed him so I made a deal. He has been incredibly effective up front.

So many dropped points for stupid reasons like the 0-0 with Juve we missed a penalty with the last kick of the game. Against Atalanta they played with 10 men for most of it and we ended up losing because of something exactly like this:
1591177261365235712
We went into the final day level with Inter but behind Juve. We won as did Inter but Juve (who had the best H2H record) fucked up. I thought we had lost the league as Inter had a better H2H record and GD but apparently it was to go to a playoff. This seems to be what happens in real life but FM mentioned NOTHING on the league rules screen.
https://i.imgur.com/3PR6vQk.png
It was played at a "neutral" venue which turned out to be AC Milan's San Siro which is a bit iffy. They scored early and were all over us, I don't think we had one attacking highlight. A shame but considering I didn't think we'd have a playoff I can't be too mad.
Cups:
https://i.imgur.com/dA0UsGC.png
Sent out the reserves in the Supercup match (no idea why it's in January) and we fucked the cup. Oh well.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/EI48P1P.png
Annoyed not to get the results needed to finish in the top 8. We were beating Monaco 2-0 but they scored in the 88th and 92nd minutes plus we should have gotten more from Man United and Dortmund.

Porto were no match for us, an easy victory.
https://i.imgur.com/GAEcJ0q.png
https://i.imgur.com/2ypkoJ6.png
We lost it in the first leg. We battered PSG but couldn't score and I knew we'd get smacked in France which is what happened.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/poV1dlw.png
I'm thinking of selling Casadei who is on big wages and I don't feel he's essential to our team anymore. I also feel we need a natural goalscorer as Moukoko who was banging them in last season and the year before has dried up due to quite a few niggly injuries this year. Other than that I'm happy.
Youth Prospects:
We had nothing last year but we got two "Elite talents" this year:

Not too keen on the keeper but the defender looks like he could be our best player through the youth team.

Started my traditional save of starting unemployed with no rep and seeing where I end up. The difference between this and the one I did on FM21 is that it's on Full Fat FM instead of Touch, and I'll hopefully be adding some more countries to move into later in the save (though I've started with only England and Scotland playable and a bunch of places on View only).
The first team to offer me a job was Buxton. They were languishing in the relegation zone of the National League North and spending over £1000 a week on one striker. I took the job and I swear the board wanted a mid-table finish but as soon as I got there it was changed to Play Offs. It wouldn't have mattered either way as I was absolutely shite and didn't even get them out of the relegation zone before I resigned. The only significant thing I managed there was signing Josh Hmami on loan from Southport because....
My next job would be at Southport where I would reunite with him. Our wage budget was 7k a week, down from the 11k I had at Buxton (although I never got to do anything with that). They wanted a midtable finish and were predicted to finish 14th. Jordan Archer, brother of Cameron at Villa was a very good striker for this level and the previously mentioned Hmami was a midfielder I really liked despite the coaches not rating him. They also had 2 quality CBs for this level but not a lot else. Annoyingly, despite having Accrington as a parent club, they had already wasted that union on loaning 2 kids for the youth team from them. I bought in a couple of players on loan from Walsall and a defender on loan from Kidderminster who would all play a decent enough role and my most significant signing to that point was Jake Burton on a free transfer after his release from Tranmere. He would bag 16 goals and 5 assists in 36 league games for us but ultimately despite a bright start the season fizzled out into nothing except midtable mediocrity, which the board were thrilled with.
As contracts expired and we had the option to get players from Accrington I was hoping we could push on and do better in season 2. I would secure Joe Starbuck on loan from Wrexham and Bobby-Joe Taylor on loan from division rivals Scunthorpe who would be our starting wide midfielders with both having the option to play RB/LB if needed. The accrington relationship would yield us Emerich Polly who would rotate with Jack Bainbridge who was already here to play in CM alongside Hmami, who was our best playmaker no matter what the coaches said. We also bought in Blaine Rowe after his release from Coventry to be out starting RB and Jaden Forrester to start on the left or up front came in from Rushall Olympic of all places. A new first choice keeper joined in the form of Aidan Dowling released from Blackburn.
We went flying out the gates this season and soon settled in as the 3rd best team in the division, miles behind champions elect Fylde and somewhat behind Spennymore. Then in January came the pivotal moment of our season as 35 year old Scott Sinclair rocked up looking for a job. We had no money to give him, but towards the end of his 4 week trial and after negotiating some pay cuts we were able to offer him a massive £250 a week and a 1 year extension if we got promoted. Shockingly, he took it. He made his debut against top of the table Fylde and scored in a 2-1 loss. Had we won we would have moved to just 4 points behind them with a game in hand, but the loss ended any faint hopes we had of challenging them. His 2nd game he netted twice but we again slipped up and drew 2-2. This began an awful run of form for us that saw us win just 1 in 6 games, and that was the 1 game Scott didn't get on the pitch. Despite his bright start his career wasn't going so well here. With Scott dropped from the team, only featuring occasionally off the bench, we continued to stall and I place the blame on the fact Jordan Archer went on a massive goal draught and was moaning about wanting to move to a bigger team. Having taken 5 points from 6 games after Scott signed, we proceeded to take 9 from the next 5 which was clearly an improvement but we were very lucky and not playing well. A 2-1 win away at in form Banbury where Jordan Archer got back on the score sheet seemed to be a turning point and we then thumped 2nd place Spenny 4-0 and won 1-0 at Hereford with Scotty Sinclair being the super sub hero.... things were looking up but another poor spell saw us fall to 5th for the first time. I was genuinely afraid we might throw it all away and not even make the play offs but with 5 games to go something clicked. We battered Bradford PA 3-0 and then went away to Fylde and won 2-0 despite Jake Burton seeing a straight red 20 minutes in- Sinclair netting in stoppage time to wrap it up. The suspension to Burton combined with an injury to Archer left us with only Forrester and Sinclair to play up front... and Scotty rose to the occasion bagging a hat-trick against Scunthorpe in a 5-0 win and scoring again against Scarborough on the final day (2-0) saw us, somehow, finish 2nd, ahead of Spenny on Goal Difference. The makeshift strike force of Forrester and Sinclair continued to click in the Play Off Semi as both netted and we dispatched Hitchin 2-0 but disaster struck as Forrester went down injured....
This left me with my toughest team selection to date. Forrester could play with injections but I didn't want to do that if I could avoid it. Burton returned from his 3 game ban and was an obvious choice. Archer was also back in contention following injury but a combination of him being a moody cunt and not being fit made me not want to use him. Sinclair was on the form of his life but had started the last 3 games and was 35. We also had a young striker out on loan in Belgium who had been called up for the Belgium Under 20s as a result of his form there- Eden Benteke. Benteke was recalled for the Play Off Final, but to my surprise a 17 year old from Newcastle's academy- Fred Luvovadio arrived and could play. Picking the 2 strikers gave me a headache but in the end I opted for Burton and Luvovadio, giving the kid his professional debut at Wembley. Forrester, with injections was on the bench along with Sinclair as Archer and Benteke missed out. We went 1-0 down after just 2 minutes but Burton levelled it after 6 minutes and then Hmami gave us the lead from the spot. The youn kid Lovovadio could have been a hero when some good skill got him through and he squared it to Burton but Burton missed a sitter. Not to worry as Scott Sinclair came on for him and netted the goal that sealed the win, sealed promotion and sealed the old man another 1 year deal.
I wasn't planning for promotion. I was waiting for the deadwood contracts in the squad to expire (my 5 top earner are 4 players I'm releasing for not being good enough and Archer who doesn't want to stay) and to allow me to rebuild and push for promotion next year. God knows how we'll do next year but one thing is for sure.... even if I end up at Real Madried, I'm taking Josh Hmami with me.

On last years FM I had a save that lasted 26 seasons (21 at Kaiserslautern and 5 at Sheffield United) and I got through most of that save by simulating/instant resulting matches.
For FM 23 I wanted to try actually playing the games, watching in all the 3d match engine glory that I have never bothered with as never stopped playing with commentary only like it was back in the good old days.
I've found the match engine a bit frustrating though with players randomly running away from the ball to give the opposition a clear run on goal, my strikers constantly blasting it either straight at the keeper or over the bar only for their defender to ping one in from 30yrds for his first ever goal over and over again. Or the favourite of FM 23 my whole backline running in treacle after a long ball over the top allowing their striker to make up 20yrds to run through and score (although to be fair this one seems to happen to both teams). It's also had to tell if these kind of things are just visual or not.
So when I started this 4th season expecting to be challenging for the Vanarama National League title, hopefully getting into the Football League and turning professional 3 straights defeats leaving me bottom of the table (again) left me a bit deflated and I decided to go back to simulating the games.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/48/xorFHI.png
It's been a bit of a turnaround.
Aside from the ridiculous change of fortunes something else has rather stood out to me. In the 14 games since going back to instant results (the 2-0 win over Fylde I did play the match myself) my 2 main strikers have scored a lot of goals. A lot.
DJ Campton-Sturridge has 20 goals, Jaime Soule has 23. In 14 games.
In the first game Campton-Sturridge scored all 5 goals, in the second he scored 4 and since he also has another hattrick.
Soule has 3 hattricks and 3 4 goal hauls, he scored the 3 hattricks in consecutive games and the 3 4 goal games came in a 4 game stretch where he also got one in the other game.
I've certainly had prolific strikers in past FMs. Last year I had a striker break Kaiserslautern's all time goal scoring record scoring at over a goal a game. I don't recall ever seeing so many hattricks (or 4 and 5 goal games) back to back like this.
It just doesn't seem right.

Finally grabbed some cheap game pass and so have FM23 available.
I'm planning to do a save in a "smaller" country where one of the goals is to build the league up with me. Do I really need any other leagues loaded than that country? Or should I just go custom database and make sure players are being generated everywhere?

Málaga CF - 2022/23
After many hours trawling the database for save ideas, I eventually stumbled upon Malaga. It hasn't quite worked out for old Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani. Malaga did briefly dine out with the European elite, but just seven years later were slumming it in the second tier of Spanish football and looking far more likely to drop down again than bounce back. Cue me. The squad was the one of the oldest in the division and was ripe for a rebuild with a few young prospects to build on. Unfortunately I was not the man for the job and after just 12 league games, Big Abdullah gave me the chop. Admittedly we were bottom of the table with just the one victory, but this is 2022 and the table does lie, just ask Steve Bruce. According to xG we were down by a whopping ten points. Robbed. With zero enticing offers landing in my inbox, I watched on gleefully as Malaga were relegated to the third tier. Rather worryingly, both the summer & winter flew by with no job interviews. I was damaged goods and only one man was willing to take the risk, Gerard Pique.
https://seeklogo.com/images/F/fc-andorra-logo-2ADDBB82C7-seeklogo.com.png
F.C. Andorra - 2023/24
The hipsters amongst you will recognise I've opted for the old logo, mainly because the new effort looks like something Elon Musk vomited up. Badge aside, the Andorra story has been one of success. Since the new regime, the club has risen from the Spanish 5th tier all the way to the Segunda. Despite the country having a population of only 77,354 to be exact, the former Barca man is dreaming of Champions League football. Luckily for me the in game Pique is far more realistic and after suffering relegation last season, the goalposts had very much changed. As I take the helm the club sit in 7th place two places from the play-offs with nine games to spare. We would win seven of the ties and finish a comfortable fourth with Badajoz awaiting in the play-offs. In keeping with save we naturally bottled it and bowed out with a dismal 1-0 defeat. Malaga suffered the same fate. Every cloud.
F.C. Andorra - 2024/25
Heading into the new season and the board announced a £2.6m transfer budget. Expectations were low as they declared a mid table finish satisfactory. I of course had other plans, but then again so did my £100kp/w wage budget making building a talented squad capable of challenging the bigger sides virtually impossible. Come the winter break and we sat in 6th spot just one point back from the play-offs, with league leaders Malaga within seven. We were going great guns at home, but struggled on the road away from the mountains and altitude. Then disaster struck. In the space of a week we lost our Captain, Diego Pampin and VC Roger Riera, both of whom formed half of my defensive unit. With too little time and not enough wiggle room in the budgets, I was left cursing the minimum fee release clauses and waved goodbye to any return to Segunda. In fairness to the squad we did rally and finished a respectable 7th. Despite leading for much of the campaign, Malaga slipped to third and crashed out of the play-offs for a successive years. The curse is real.
F.C. Andorra - 2025/26
I'll never be quite sure what happened in the summer, but the FM Gods decided to spice things up and the Primera Federación groups got shaken up. Rather than competing against the talent packed B teams from Seville, Betis, Villarreal & Valencia, we would be lining up against complete unknowns. Despite a slow start, we really fiew down the home straight winning nine of our final ten fixtures. There was no catching Real Sociedad B, but we headed into the play-offs with confidence and got the better of Numancia in the final via a tremendous strike from Valentin Vada just after the hour mark. Lovely.
I decided not to bore you along the way with my wheelings and dealings of complete unknowns, but here is the likely first eleven heading into the second tier.
GK: Garcia Moreno - 19YO newgen picked up from Real Sociedad on a Bosman
WB: Petxarroman - Spent some time on loan before arriving permanently from the Basque country
DC: Jorge Moreno - Solid centre half picked up from Rayo for £725k
BPD: Mingueza - Will sign in the summer on a free from Barca, easily our best bit of business
WB: Marti Vila - OG
DLP: Orellana - Club Captain since I arrived, classy playmaker
BWM: Tomas Belmonte - All action and only £350k from Lanus
B2B: Knezevic - Serbian international signed for £1.3m
DLF: Chris Ramos - Another freebie this time from Cadiz
AF: Campos - 19YO newgen destined for the very top
DLF: Kuki Zalazar - Pedro type winger with over 100 appearances for the club
The hipsters amongst you will recognise I've opted for the old logo, mainly because the new effort looks like something Elon Musk vomited up.

Sampdoria 2031/31 Season Update:
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/PgIIiTx.png
https://i.imgur.com/yzmuwBV.png
His finishing hasn't really improved and he wasn't doing well in his loan spells at second/third division clubs so I cashed in.
https://i.imgur.com/nVexIXC.png
He was a great squad option and I probably shouldn't have sold him.
https://i.imgur.com/iROXcl6.png
Didn't feel he was good enough and his contract was going to expire soonish so I took the money.
https://i.imgur.com/zST6XXQ.png
One of my former "Boys", he was so crucial for us in our first two seasons as he was our driving force from midfield. I couldn't believe that I managed to bring him back permanently but he was never able to reproduce the form from his loan days.
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/QKvHNjj.png
He had a £2.1m release clause and I couldn't say no to the big lad. Loaned back to Legia and he did well there.
https://i.imgur.com/wjaUVc7.png
I loaned out my second choice keeper so I needed a backup. This guy was only £11.75k and despite only having 3 stars of potential apparently is listed as potentially being a "Leading Serie A player". My board and the fans are seething but whatever.
https://i.imgur.com/ZC1Imsz.png
I was in the market for a BIG TIME ST sadly they either weren't interested or they had £150m+ price tags which we could not afford. As such I brought this guy in who can also play on either wing (I've been mixing in a 4-2-3-1 at times this year). £68m was a bit hefty but he's got bags of potential.
https://i.imgur.com/Qf9rq1e.png
I had this guy on my radar since he was produced at Caen but they always wanted £50m-£80m for him. In January I noticed he was listed by request for only £5.5m so I snapped him up.
https://i.imgur.com/Lznz0oR.png
A scout find and he was a bargain at only £2.9m.
League:
https://i.imgur.com/ddZG47p.png
https://i.imgur.com/xwGQdJP.png
https://i.imgur.com/EYUzBrj.png
We had our typical slow start and the board weren't happy with rumours of me being sacked. We sorted our shit as we usually do and thankfully we had enough time to win the league. The 7-0 demolition of Juventus (who were leading the league and looking untouchable at that point) was a real highlight.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/hFg5CRt.png
I didn't realise away goals was a thing here so I was stunned the game finished when I was thinking about changes for ET.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/TuambHE.png
When we drew with Sociedad despite being all over them I was worried we might struggle to even finish in the top 24 due to the next 2 games being hard but we were brilliant and looked so good. We ended up finishing 3rd in the table and qualifying straight to the round of 16 for the first time.
https://i.imgur.com/kxzC4aK.png
https://i.imgur.com/kuHnKq6.png
Sadly the draw was not favourable to us as and Arsenal got their revenge by battering us.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/UDbVdjb.png
Moukoko was our top scorer again and whilst he was able to capture his magic at times I again felt he picked up too many injuries and he could go missing at times. I think I cash in on him this season and I might even cash in on one of my "Boys" in Arrocha who doesn't seem to be as effective as he once was.

Hello there.
It's been a while since I did a FM save(Maybe Randers in FM19/20?) and I've a month of gamepass and so it's time to give it a go. So why Greece?
Well after looking, there's only ever been one European finalist from Greece. That was Panathinaikos in 1970/71 and they lost to that Ajax team. No Greek team has been to any European final since. I'd like to fix it.
Why AEK?
Well there's a bit of a Bayern situation going in in Greece. Of the last 25 league seasons, Olympiacos have won 21 league titles(2 for Panathinaikos, 1 PAOK and 1 for AEK), including the last 3 in a row.
AEK were however screwed out of a title in 07/08. They finished in 1st place a point ahead of Olympiacos, however Olympiacos had lost a match earlier in the season 1-0 to Apollon Kalamarias. It turns out Apollon Kalamarias had used an ineligible player in that match. Olympiacos took this to court and it was deemed Apollon Kalamarias were to be docked 1 point and Olympiacos would be given 3 points and therefore the title.
It was that bad that Panathinaikos took the matter to the Court of arbitration for Sport. They asked the Greek FA if they supported this claim and they said no, so the case was refused and the title was handed over.
After this, AEK fell away from the title picture and then eventually financial problems caught up to them. They were relegated in 2013, but as an agreement to settle their debts, took a voluntary relegation to the 3rd tier.
This seems to have been a great decision as they were able to gain back-to-back promotions and return to the first division, they were then able to win the league for the first time in 24 years, three seasons later.
The clearing of the debts also allowed the club to work on another situation that had plagued them. Their home. They used to play at Nikos Goumas Stadium however it was damaged in 1999 by an earthquake. It was deemed that the entire site needed demolishing and to start again. They moved into the Athens Olympic Stadium in 2004 and demolished the old ground, but were hit with multiple cases of obstruction and many legal delays which stuck them in limbo.
In 2013 the club picked back up the plans to move into the site of their previous stadium but were again hit with legal challenges, which this time, they eventually overcame and planning permission was finally granted in 2017 to build the 32,000 seater Agia Sophia Stadium. However at the time of the start of the game the stadium is still not ready. Local councils took an age to give the club decisions on roadwork changes around the stadium. It was supposed to be good to go for the 22/23 season, but some more delays have meant that it will not be ready until October. So the club will play a few games at Georgios Kamaras Stadium to start the season off.
Success on the pitch faded a little after the title win, with AEK last year finishing 5th. The club isn't exactly flush, there's 'only' £6m in the bank and the wage budget is £340k p/w. However the club is debt free and the stadium has been paid for without burdening the club too. This where I step in.
There's a few objectives I'd like to reach with the save:
- Actually stay interested for longer than a week
- Make AEK the biggest team in Greece
- £100m in the bank
- Max out facilities
- Win a European title
- Make AEK the biggest club in the world
- Get the Greek Super League as high in the rankings as possible
But mostly I just hope it keeps my interest for a bit.

So I started with FM23 on release with a quick Fulham save - just to get the ball rolling, plus it'd been a few years since I'd dabbled managing Fulham. I don't know if I got extremely lucky or I just developed a pretty good tactic for the players I had, but we ended up flying in my first season to finish 4th and earn a Champions League spot. Getting to the top table so quickly just wasn't particularly fun - I've always preferred the "rags to riches" style save in various formats, so I've shelved the Fulham save and decided to embark on a Journeyman for the first time in 6 FM iterations.
Of course I've gone all out, including every playable league from every playable nation. I've got about 240k players in the save, which is almost twice the recommended limit, but I'll start removing leagues as we rise in stature. I wanted to include everything to give myself an opportunity to manage in places I've never been before.
Within about 4 weeks of starting unemployed and applying for every available vacancy, I was getting job offers from all around the globe - Sweden, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Ukraine, Wales and Indonesia were all possible destinations. I decided on...
https://www.pngitem.com/pimgs/m/526-5261306_persela-lamongan-hd-png-download.png
Persela Lamongan, an 2nd tier Indonesian side.
We play at the Surujaya Stadium in East Java, and considering we're also a fully professional team, it really does feel like I've fallen on my feet to start this Journeyman save.
https://www.prameswarafm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/STADION-SURAJAYA-LAMONGAN.jpg
The 2nd division is split into 3 geographical groups, the top 2 of each will enter a Playoff Group at the end of the season. We're recently relegated from the top tier and as such we're expected to be one of the favourites to make that Playoff group. The board and supporters both expect the same.
It didn't look good for me when we started with just 1 point from our opening 3 games. But since then, I've reverted to a fairly bog standard 4-4-2 and we've won 8 in a row to put us comfortably top of our Central Group.
https://i.ibb.co/GkPdwJ5/persela.png
Key man for us is this lad, Ghifari Aditya. He's got 12 in 12 in all competitions and has formed a really solid strike partnership with Ibrahim Musa Kosepa, who has chipped in with 6 goals and 4 assists.
https://i.ibb.co/k5XwL0L/aditya.png
I'm not sure how far I want to go with this club - if we can get promoted at the first opportunity, it might be good for my reputation to stick around for a top-flight season before moving elsewhere.
Saves like this, and seeing that player screenshot, really highlights the astronomical effort put into the FM face packs. We have no right to know what that man looks like, but yet we do. Fair play to sortitoutsi and everyone involved, flowers definitely deserved.
Also interested in this mega Fulham tactic. :eyemouth:

I have decided that this season will be my last at Sampdoria and I shall move onto my MAIN SAVE after but I'm still unsure what to do.
I had hoped to do it with this club:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Athletic_Club
Who were the first football club in France which was founded by Englishmen. They also won the first division 5 times in the first 8 years. Sadly it seems they're now just a social club and aren't officially in the French football system (at least not in one high enough that anyone has bothered to make on the editor).
As such I'm currently debating between a mental Journeyman game or one of the following clubs:
BFC Germania 1888, they are the oldest association football club in Germany (others were founded before them like 1860 Munich but they were formed as a gymnastics club). They are unofficially the very first German champions but the league wasn't officially recognised. They were also part of the first recognised league but they were already relegated before World War I and I don't believe they've been back. They're currently in the 10th tier of German football, which may not even be available to download on the Workshop.
First Vienna FC, the oldest team in Austria, they were in the top division until 1915 when they were relegated but a few years after they climbed back up to the top, found their feet and even won the league in 1930/31 season. They also managed to win it in 32/33, 41/42, 42/3, 43/44 and finally in 58/59. Sadly they started to fade from there and went down in 1968 and they seemed to turn into a yo-yo club but they did have two stints in the UEFA Cup in the late 80's but since then they have slid down the leagues due to poor performances and financial issues. They went down as low as the fifth tier but are currently now in the second division.
SV Juliana '31, a team in the fifth tier of Dutch football which is the second highest league of amateur football. They have no real history that I know of but they are an option as I have actually been to their ground. This year in the Summer my Cousin's son went to a tournament in the Netherlands which was hosted by the club. His team (Luton U13 or U14) finished second after failing to beat Anderlecht's youth team in their final game.
Palamos CF, the oldest club in Catalonia beating Barcelona by a year. They have never been to La Liga but they have won the third division once and the fourth division 3 times. They have also won the Catalonia Cup once. One of their notable players on Wiki is a guy called Jordi Condom.

Also interested in this mega Fulham tactic. :eyemouth:
The tactic is pretty simple, but it really works with the personnel. I won the first 4 games of the 23/24 season too, including a 3-1 win over City, before a 0-0 draw away at Bayern in the Champions League opener.
https://i.ibb.co/LnKDtpw/ffc-tactic.png
A lot of it is based on pacey wing play to create crossing opportunities and set-pieces. Andreas Pereira is so good from dead balls, and with Mitrovic in the middle, it's well worth several goals over the season. Not to mention Bernd Leno in goal severely outperforming the xGA and keeping us in games. So I think it's a little bit of the tactic playing to our strengths, and a little bit of luck and overperformance from certain players.
I've started a TTH save but we'll see how it goes before I post much about it. In my wisdom I figured I'd loan list everyone to try and get everyone game time, but nobody wants to loan anyone. And I've set everyones price to £50m to try and stop bids that the board will inevitably accept, but now everyone has a slight concern icon. Man management 1. :baz:

Baz chuck me the save file and database edit if you can. I've a PC itching to sim this.Sure. It might not be the finished article yet, cos I've a feeling the squad will be ransacked when the January transfer window opens. Hopefully all fine though. I'm also reluctant to put it on Steam Workshop cos of GDPR or whatever so I've uploaded them tp easyupload. Password is tth
Editor file: https://easyupload.io/jjctrl
Here's my saved game right at the start before I did much: https://easyupload.io/fyzm99
Here's the future regen file: https://easyupload.io/6ukbf9 (Replace the existing file in Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2023\data\database\db\2300\edt\permanent)
Facepack and config file: https://easyupload.io/qceo9a (extract to Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2023\graphics\players)
Kits for the National League North including TTH and config file: https://easyupload.io/ygitsk (extract to Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2023\graphics\kits)
Badge and config file: https://easyupload.io/i67u5y (extract to Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2023\graphics\pictures)
If anything doesn't work, let me know. If you use other editor files (eg something to fix Ajax staff) then the player IDs will be out of whack and the config file will need editing to reflect that. Will work fine if it's the only editor file that adds people though.
Get a new thread going, Baz.
I don't think I can satisfy the desire for a thread, due to how little time I get to play FM at the moment, so I'll just post in here.

Game file, graphics and everything etc work fine. It does clash with my logo pack so I've had to remove that for now.
I can start simming it now, however Baz you are added as a playable manager. Would you want me to resign you and holiday indefinitely or figure out a way to set you as the clubs manager and sim with you there?
I'll knock a thread up with the results. I don't imagine my PC will take longer than a day or two to get through it.
You could start a new game using the editor file, and then I wouldn't be in it?

Travel well, lads.
Also forgot to upload the 3D kits files, but if you're simming it doesn't really matter. If anyone wants them, give me a shout. Means your home screen before you load the game has a proper kit hung up in the locker room, more than anything. The ME is so broke that most of the time the players on the pitch are sporting four different kits anyway.
Also since wullie mentioned it, all red cards are now going to Rene Henriksen and not Maldini. :sherlock:

Alrighty. I've got everyone who is generated at the start to keep their history after retirement just in case of a serious injury to someone.
I suspect the high natural fitness guys will play into late 30's. The lower ones will be early to mid-30's, but we'll see.
Set it to save a new file every year and it's off simming now. I hope it works well!
I had it in my head that if either goalkeeper conceded, they'd swap over for the next time. Completely forgot that clean sheets don't exist on FM23 so Luca and Lofty are basically rotating every game.
Mahow's just missed a penalty, the wazzock. That's him destined for a job at centreback, I think.
Aydee trains well every week but is absolutely turd in games.
Spoonsky is phenomenal. Can play almost everywhere and always seems to assist, wherever he's playing. Strange he's so generous when most of his teammates are on his dislike list. :rosebud:
Good job we've 31 players cos everyone racks up yellow cards like they're TTH posts in a reg thread.
Also I like playing Boston away cos we can rock our snazzy third kit (https://i.imgur.com/nvF5TB8.png). Presumably Southport too.
Just noticed Clunge is tiny in the match engine. Him and Queenslander are our shortest players, both 170cm. Lofty of the course the biggest at 208. Dark Soldier (205) and Josh (200) also very tall, and both black. Lofty also the heaviest player, with niko_cee the lightest.
Also this made me laugh:

I'm at the end of season two and I've stopped for a nose around the club. I would suggest maybe making them semi-pro may have been a mistake. All but 3 players have left the club, with most having gone into u21 squads.
When it comes time, would people like me to post player by player updates? Or would they prefer something else?
I don't know how he's managed it but Yevrah has created a lower league Haaland beast.
https://i.imgur.com/j45VX0M.png
Also shows the silliness of the rotation I'm having to do - scored 4 and got dropped for two games. :D Didn't seem fussed though; came back and scored 5.
I noticed a loan transfer happened so offered everyone out for loan again and some have sodded off for the rest of the season, including Aydee celebrating being called up to the Japanese B team by jetting off to Japan:

So I've gone past 2031 on my first test run and it does seem very much luck of the draw of who has moved where.
Considering we all have the same starting CA and all of our potential is in the range of a world class player, we have one of us slumming it at Scarborough Athletic meanwhile one us just hopped from Bayern to Real Madrid.
Name and shame, so I know who to leave on loan in Uzbekistan. :rosebud:

Annoyingly I forgot to untick the use editor button on this save, so I can't quite see what's going on fully. I may have to do a re-do with that enabled.
So there's definitely two different paths people are taking in this from what I see so far. Everyone had left TTH the club by the end of the 2nd season.
Essentially those that have been less successful have tended to move and then get stuck. They don't get football at their new club, nor do they get it on loan or in some cases even get loaned. For example, one person got bought by a Premier League team end of season two, on a 5 year deal. They didn't make one single appearance for them, even off the bench, in any competition, for the whole 5 years and were never loaned out. At the end of the deal they went to Scarborough Athletic on a free and didn't play for the first year there either.
The more successful guys have tended to get some good playing time in higher leagues not long after moving on. Around 2026/7 they start making appearances in better Premier League sides and develop.
Very few were early developers and actually it seems to be that as everyone is hitting 26 or so now, we're only just at that point of getting guaranteed first team football at top sides and caps for England. The England boys getting called up are only now in the 20-30 caps range.
We only just got our first entry on the Ballon d'Or list(3rd place) this year. We did have a European Golden Boy winner among us though!
Now we get to the interesting bit where even the likes of Haaland move into their 30s and should start to decline. Our boys are coming up towards their prime in most cases too. Also the ones that didn't quite make the cut have settled into lower level football across the globe. I wonder if there'll be any late career resurgences.

I've just finished arriving to 2050. I was hoping some of us would be continuing as staff but I don't think a single person has from what I can see.
There seems to be a bug where if you create a player with any preference for a job later in their career, you immediately have the option to send them on a coaching course. This option normally only appears for old players, and it annoyed me having the option for a load of 17 year olds, so everyone’s job preference was set to 0.

If you’re simming perhaps, but the menus are already astronomically overcomplicated that adding another option (that will always be rejected, just like the leadership course) is definitely unwanted.
Besides if I manage to play 20 seasons so everyone’s retired, it’ll mean my wife’s left me and taken the kids, so let’s hope I never reach the point where I’m sad our players aren’t doing their coaching badges.

Bollocks.
:(
Well the 31st January was an absolute shitshow. :D
Rather than sell more players, the majority have left on loan. CJay has been sold and loaned back to us. :(
Yevrah has gone to West Ham to be a REGULAR STARTER for the team that's 5th in the Premier League. :wtf:
Look at these outs:

When the board accept a bid, can you still offer the player out for nothing and get another team to bid, persuade him to pick that other team and then cancel it?
When the board accept a bid, can you still offer the player out for nothing and get another team to bid, persuade him to pick that other team and then cancel it?Er, probably. :stamford:
I did offer the three out who’ve been sold for £0 + 50% profit from next sale but there were zero takers.
One thing I did notice was if someone bid and chairman Mark accepted it, at the same time as someone making a loan bid, there was no option for me to “protest transfer.” Whereas if it was just a transfer bid, I could.
Also sadly Sir Waistcoat has been replaced by Rafa. I applied for the Serbia job, to play thommo, but nothing ever came of it.

Atalanta : Season 2079/80
A little recap as i've not posted about this save in a year or so. I was at Ayr Utd having taken them from the bottom of the Scottish leagues to winning the Scottish Premier League.
In the summer of 2069 I left Ayr and joined Atalanta who were in Serie B and had never won Serie A in their history.
I've now had 11 years at Atalanta. This is a summary of the past 11 years.
https://i.gyazo.com/48e59cf654e6d5e125b71dd1eb71671b.png
Managed to win Serie A a couple of years ago, but have not been able to repeat it. The league is very competitive. And we have been massively limited with a small rented stadium which the board refuse to buy or buy a new stadium. Trying to compete with the other larger clubs and their income revenue has been difficult.

Italian Cup, as you can see has not been a priority. But we've won it once. And should have done so this year if it wasn't for our meltdown.

End of Season Standings:

Absolutely gutted. We should have won the league, but Inter had a great season.
We did win the Italian Super Cup though at the start of the season.

Nearly rage resigned last night, but think i should stick it out for another season.
The issue with getting this far in the game on FM11 is that my manager rep has gone weird and it's very difficult to get a job with another team.
First game with only 14 players, one of which is CJay loaned back to us, and no right back (Josh was bullied into learning to play there, while John Arne remains on the left), was a comfortable 4-1 win against 8th place Boston. Nothing to worry about. You lads out on loan enjoy yourselves and make the most of better facilities cos we're gonna storm the National League next season.
With 11 games left, we've been declared Champions.

Baz Buzzing for payday when I can pick this up. I think I'll do a test run with god mode, e.g. I will give everyone ~20 year contracts, and give everyone pre-arranged transfers to move to some minnow league when they're 34-35 or so. For one it keeps everyone enslaved at TTH FC, but it also means a bonus DVD extra of seeing what impact the lads can have in, I dunno, the Gibraltar league or something. I might put a poll on here to decide our retirement home.

After a brief hiatus, I returned to my Wrexham save and finished yet another season. To catch you up, last season was our first season in the Championship and while we were expected to finish dead last, we ended up narrowly missing the playoffs instead. Unfortunately we had no money to improve the squad and we were about to lose a valuable player that'd been on loan with us for two seasons in a row, so I wasn't very optimistic. My first instinct was to try and sort our horrible defensive record out, but my early efforts seemed like they weren't going to pay off so I just returned to our unique brand of gung-ho attacking football.
https://i.gyazo.com/cc9a6d2ad2ec78d0c24035a54650d7ac.png
Suffice to say, it paid off, but in a very unorthodox way, resulting in a season full of the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows, often within the same week. We had 9 games where we conceded 4 or more goals, but at the same time we also had 8 games where we scored 4 or more goals. One thing's for sure, the neutral fans were always entertained. In the grand scheme of things, I'd say we deserved our promotion, but Fulham really made us work for it, with us having to win our game against Swansea to guarantee 2nd place. We did so emphatically, beating them 5-0, but Fulham also failed to win their home game so the gap seems larger than it actually was. To further showcase our inconsistency, we won 10 of our last 12 games, but the two games we lost, we were demolished in (both 5-0).
https://i.gyazo.com/7f18567a24a8a94319565e02a8e5e796.png
We signed a grand total of 2 players, plus one more on loan. All 3 of them were quite pivotal, with Balmer and Azeez making into our team of the year. The loanee was a striker who scored a very respectable 20 goals, but his inconsistency meant that there would be stretches of games where he wouldn't see a single start. Following a theme that has been a thing for pretty much the whole save, we had players that for all intents and purposes should be plying their trade in like League Two but somehow performed admirably for us in the Championship. In fact, out of the 11 players in that screenshot, no fewer than 5 have been with us since League Two. As always special mention has to go to Mullin, who's been with us since the Conference League and remains a key player. In fact, he picked a 5-month injury early-ish in the season and we really struggled to adjust.
So with all that said, a long summer awaits. We have been given a measly 700k euros p/w to spend on wages (which is a decent 15-20% lower than the current lowest in the Premier League), coupled with a pretty respectable 37m euros to spend on transfers. But I am really expecting it to be rough. I genuinely think we'll finish dead last, possibly with fewer than 20 points, since we are severely lacking in quality and the money/time we have just isn't enough to brings us up to EPL levels. But that's fine. I'm just gonna enjoy the ride and be happy that we're getting money in, so that we can establish ourselves as a yo-yo club before we make it to the Premier League for good.

Bit bored with the usual dynamic of scouting and signing ace regens, so thinking of doing some sort of YDWAWK project but with a different limitation. Ideas so far:
Only players over 30.
Max flair players, so aiming for like 18+ for attacking positions, 15+ for DMs/WBs, 10+ for CBs.
Height, either a very tall team or a very short one.
Only players with teamwork in the 18-20 range.
I think I'm leaning towards the flair one for now, and adding the most eccentric goalie I can find.

Using wonderkids and youngsters generally is pretty much the META way of winning the game, which is why I'm fairly ambivalent about challenges where using youth is a key restriction. Being restricted to older rather than younger players feels like a much better challenge, long term anyways.
Youth academy challenges are the obvious exception, but fuck knows how anyone ever completes those without Indoctrinating them.

I don't get through seasons as quick as you guys, so here's my second season Buriram save. Managed to upgrade last season foreigners to some decent guys (thanks mainly to the NextGen list).
As previously noted, SI screwed up the Champions League and AFC Cup qualifying which meant I played in both comps - used the in-game editor to allow myself to register different foreigners for each comp (as the game wanted to use the same players for both). We ended up playing 64 games in the season.
All in all, another decent season, retained the league, and reached the quarter final of the Champions League - that said, the board and some key players were disappointed that we didn't win it.... not sure why...we are Buriram, we aren't going to win the Champions League (yet)... however, we did manage to find our first every continental competition, beating some turd teams in the later stages of the competition to win the AFC Cup.

Sampdoria 2032/33 Season Update - THE FINAL:
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/23cvBro.png
https://i.imgur.com/gSlSeJf.png
He had a very cheap release clause and I snapped him up. He is injury prone which is shit but I think he could be quality.
https://i.imgur.com/evzgxU3.png
I felt we were missing a quality CB next to Soave. I wanted to buy him (and a few others) in the Summer but Arsenal wanted £200m+ and the day after the Italian window closed he requested to be transfer listed :moop: He was still angry a few months later so I secured a deal for him to come in January.
https://i.imgur.com/a2vUOXn.png
I don't remember the fee being this expensive for him. I didn't need him (although I did need another body in CM) and he was someone I had shortlisted for a while.
https://i.imgur.com/0M239JL.png
The most I've ever spent on a player in any CM/FM game. He isn't even someone we actually needed as we are stacked at ST and I wouldn't have done this deal if this wasn't my last season. I decided I wanted to use as he looks bonkers.
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/uAyrFy5.png
https://i.imgur.com/rx6PpGL.png
He was a big part of the team for a while but he had picked up a lot of injuries and our youth ST's had moved ahead of him and he had become 6th choice or so.
https://i.imgur.com/k0vzGYz.png
One of my boys, he is someone I wasn't sure about buying when I did (for £46m) as he isn't my typical striker but he was so damn good for us. Sadly I felt we had outgrown him so I cashed in.
https://i.imgur.com/8E1NE7V.png
Injuries had struck and he wasn't scoring like a demon when picked which was becoming an incredibly rare occurrence.
League:
https://i.imgur.com/pe9JOdL.png
https://i.imgur.com/HPcIGHF.png
https://i.imgur.com/Ds95Y6u.png
We were challenged hard for the title but we had it wrapped up on the penultimate day.
Cups:
https://i.imgur.com/keAY8MK.png
Shitty that we couldn't win the cup with our last chance but oh well.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/lCzKOxP.png
Worried when we dropped points against Austria Wien as we had a very hard run in but we sorted our shit out and finished 8th in the league because of GD (I think).
Round of 16:
https://i.imgur.com/yAXSEsi.png
https://i.imgur.com/1GZzZ4a.png
Very tight first leg but we battered them at our place which has been a real fortress in Europe.
Quarter-Final:
https://i.imgur.com/UHxq5H2.png
https://i.imgur.com/99Hqiu1.png
Very much like the last round where our home form was just too strong.
Semi-Final:
https://i.imgur.com/drkGR8b.png
https://i.imgur.com/PLcjWRo.png
Got our work done in the home leg with Watkinson who was bought from United came back to haunt them. We even looked great away this time and the scoreline should have been more. Fuente, a former City boy, haunting United this time as I used a rotated side.
Final:
https://i.imgur.com/v0oQzs1.png
I was worried that we were going to lose this as we were the better side but Chelsea had some decent chances and I was sure the game was going to punish us. Thankfully it didn't and Fuente came off the bench in the 73rd minute and had an immediate impact. I think that has been our biggest improvement this year, goals from the bench.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/9lUnFs2.png
Here is everyone's attributes:
https://i.imgur.com/YfrRZWu.png
I think he's the best keeper in my save, only Donnarumma who is 34 is close to Sosa's ability. The guy is top quality.
https://i.imgur.com/MY2gqDM.png
My second choice who I really haven't used that much and his potential has suffered. Bayern did try to buy him as their first choice keeper in the Summer though so he's still decent.
https://i.imgur.com/1RQMHFU.png
Cheap third choice.
https://i.imgur.com/qwIiYAT.png
A steal at only £11m, he's been our first choice RB since the day he signed even though he was only 17 at the time.
https://i.imgur.com/evzgxU3.png
https://i.imgur.com/2XN68Ph.png
He almost wasn't with us as Man City made a HUGE offer of £200m+ a season or two ago but I rejected as no one else that I found was at his quality for the price that was interested in us. A true beast and only £5.25m.
https://i.imgur.com/mK4Jil5.png
I tried to sell him in the Summer as I thought we could do with an upgrade at LB but no one was interested in the price I wanted so I kept him and he had one of his best ever seasons for us.
https://i.imgur.com/bhnLiyg.png
A backup who has never really kicked on to realise his potential.
https://i.imgur.com/fWn1Is7.png
Kolawole struggled to hit his potential due to this guy who is better and younger and thus played more games.
https://i.imgur.com/qyofO6v.png
Not really someone I like too much but my scouts liked him. Hasn't played much for us.
https://i.imgur.com/gSlSeJf.png
https://i.imgur.com/dUGyLIe.png
He's been with us for a long time but he's always been a backup who has never managed to carve out a starting role. Disappointed he's supposedly so far from his potential as I have given him lots of minutes over the years.
https://i.imgur.com/9QxzHV2.png
He was a starter in the first half of the season and I think he's quality.
https://i.imgur.com/xEc1oGM.png
A backup who has barely played but had a lot of loan spells.
https://i.imgur.com/GYXkrgQ.png
I think he could have ended up as our starting LB next season or the season after.
https://i.imgur.com/wwOaEdE.png
When I signed him I didn't need him but he was cheap and he's done well for us whilst carving out a starting role. Not a game changer but he's solid although I might have sold him in the coming Summer if I played on.
https://i.imgur.com/sJzdH1m.png
Largely because this guy is ready to start a lot more games.
https://i.imgur.com/oTYwf2l.png
A cheap backup option who seems to be struggling to kick on.
https://i.imgur.com/SKwCCsm.png
He's been our best CM for a while but he was a lot less effective this year and I didn't notice him as much this. £2.5m was a steal as he went on to play in 256 matches for us.
https://i.imgur.com/NQRlXAp.png
He hasn't done as well as has in previous years and really I would expect more from him as he looks bonkers.
https://i.imgur.com/VxD2dfV.png
He had become a big part of the squad last season and he did even better this year. Might have had to sell him in the Summer as he's not happy because his agent is a dick who hates me.
https://i.imgur.com/ghdoWj5.png
He's done really well as a DLF for us but I think if we played with an AMC he'd be an absolute game changer for us.
https://i.imgur.com/a2vUOXn.png
https://i.imgur.com/CzbUlKt.png
Probably shouldn't have loaned him out this year as we could have done with him at times and I did end up buying another CM in January but he did ok in his loan spell.
https://i.imgur.com/n19lQk4.png
When I signed him I wasn't sure why. I didn't think he was good enough to start up front and we don't play with an AML, I was wrong though and he's been great as a ST. He's a little streaky with his goals but with the options off the bench I'm ok with that.
https://i.imgur.com/4qkeXqE.png
He's someone I really should have tried to give more minutes too but there were just too many bodies in his position.
https://i.imgur.com/C1QIyTk.png
He doesn't score huge amounts or gets too many assists but he does so much work for the team. He's constantly dropping deep and helping out, he's not my usual type of striker but he's been a joy.
https://i.imgur.com/0M239JL.png
https://i.imgur.com/wNmZ530.png
He's injury prone which is shit but I think he's amazing. He's scored a lot of big goals for us and he seems to get in some great positions.
https://i.imgur.com/maQ1a5Y.png
I expected more from him but he's never really progressed despite having a lot of loan moves. He's also really struggled to score other than this year even though I had him pegged as being a future god tier finisher.
I will play on a bit longer to do the Club World Cup which is this year but after that I'm done and onto a brand new save.
How’s Endrick progressed away from Sampdoria?

Everyone was dead just after half-time and the game was done so I did the only respectable thing. I took off my LB and both my CB's for 3 goalkeepers because this piece of shit competition only allows 3 subs. My second choice keeper coming up with a goal at a free kick

The club was founded in 1898, a year before Barcelona. It will be my task to take them to the promised land and make them THE club in Catalonia. Currently the club is in the sixth tier of Spanish football although they have been as high as the second tier and were only 2 points away from a promotion playoff. They lasted 6 seasons total in the second division before they finished in the relegation zone and were sent down to the 4th tier due to financial difficulties.
They did manage to claw back to the third division a couple of times after but have been a 4th tier team at best for most of the time. Their best honour was winning the third division which they managed once, other than that they have won the Catalonia Cup as well as the fourth division on three occasions with the last being in 2001/02.
Notable players include Jordi Condom and possibly Musa Fatty a Gambian lad who I'm not entirely sure is real.

Because of the mental key player the game has generated we are predicted to finish top comfortably although I believe it was third pre-player generation. The board only want a top half finish (11 teams) so I'm sure that will be easy.
Plugged in a 4-3-3 wing play for now but that will change I imagine. I'm not going to allow myself to search for players, they all have to be DOF recommendations or from the scouts. I will not be able to use the "players in range" page. I will also limit staff hires to job adverts.
Hopefully I'll win some Champions Leagues on the way (I imagine I'll have to) but the goal will be to pass Barcelona in the rep rating list.

Here are the leagues I'm running btw, large DB and the player count is at 63k. Hoping to get some tasty regens in the game down the line.

Deffo not loaning everyone out next season.
Got my first youth recruitment and one of them is called Cole Shearer. He scored four in the first half vs the U18s. I mean, of course Cole Shearer scored five.

Don't get me wrong, none of these non-TTHers will be in the team, but I'm hoping they'll be good enough to make us money to be able to upgrade the facilities and whatnot.
Annoying that the future regens all seem to come through at the first opportunity, with the exception of Taz and Panda Bear.

2022/23 - Season 1 - Persela Lamongan
With the board and fans expecting a playoff appearance and potential promotion back to the top tier, the pressure was on after starting the season with 2 defeats. Switching out from the 5-at-the-back abomination I was trialling made all the difference, and it was a bog standard 4-4-2 that took us to the top spot in the Central Group, qualifying us for the playoff stage.

The playoff stage had two groups of 3, with the top sides in each group being promoted (and playing each other in a "final" to determine the champions), while the 2nd placed sides in each group played each other for the 3rd promotion spot. We opened with a tight 2-2 draw with Persipura Jayapura before comfortably seeing off Persewar Waropan 3-1 a few days later, thanks to a MOTM performance from our 41-year-old striker Hilton. However, in our return match against Jayapura we put in a woeful performance as we were comfortably beaten. Thankfully we snatched a late consolation to pull it back to 2-1, an important goal for our goal difference. It wasn't to matter in the end as we beat Waropan 1-0 in the final game to take us to 7 points and promotion. We ended up losing the final (to our Central group rivals Gresik United) but it wasn't the main priority at that point in the season...

The Piala Indonesia was the only cup competition we were entered into, and there were no real expectations for the board to worry about. We opened up with a scrappy 1-0 win over 3rd division side Hizbul Wathan, and we were drawn in the next round against Bhayangkara, who were in 2nd place in the top division at the time. Step up Hilton, who tucked in a 2nd-half hat-trick to give us a 3-0 win in the home leg. It got a little nervy in the final minutes of the away leg, but we scored a crucial away goal from the spot to confirm an aggregate victory and progression to the 3rd round.
Up next was Perserang Serang, a fellow 2nd tier side. We struggled with the home leg, being held to a 1-1 draw, but we outclassed them a week later in the away game, comfortably winning 3-0 with Hilton adding another 2 goals. The quarter finals pitted us against Persib Bandung from the top division. Both legs were very even, with a real lack of high quality chances. Nonetheless we were able to eke out a 1-0 home win, with centre-back Aji Saka playing the role of hero in the second leg, as he thumped in a 25 yard rocket to seal a 1-1 draw and a semi-final spot.
Arema Cromas were the opponents, another side sitting right at the top of Liga 1. They were happy to play possession football and we barely touched the ball in the 1st leg, but somehow scrambled two late equalisers to keep it level going into the home leg. And despite once again foregoing possession for the majority of the match, we created much better chances throughout and stormed through to the final with a 3-0 win, where PSM Makassar were waiting. We were awful in the 1st leg, and yet somehow maintained parity thanks to an injury time equaliser from our sub. But the 2nd leg was a different matter. We cruised to a 4-0 lead inside half an hour and strolled to an eventual 5-1 victory to win the Piala Indonesia in our first season in the job!

The cup win means we've somehow cracked continental football already, being entered into the 2023/24 Asian Confederation Cup. With promotion to the top tier, we're also finally able to sign non-Indonesian players. Unfortunately, Hilton (who has just turned 42) has announced his retirement in July, but I've already lined up a move for a 46 year old striker to replace him. I'll play out this 2nd season to try and boost our reputation, and maybe look to move on if any jobs open up in the next off-season.

The confed cup is good fun - just be prepared to play 14 zone games, 20 playoffs and 10 semi finals.
Check out Egy Maulana - a great striker at that level.

This lad is far too good for this division. He's on a non-contract so I really need to free up some of the wage budget to give him an actual contract.
