Had to change it up depending on who I’m playing though as think the AI finally caught onto it. 4–1-2-1-2 diamond seems pretty overpowered again this year against really average teams.

The Southampton young players are ridiculously good very quickly. Bazuna, Lavia, Livramento, Mara and Bella-Kotchup all could play for any team in the league now. Unfortunately the latter has now moved on but the core are still there.

Also to add to this, and it may be pretty obvious, but, I always change the front 3 with half an hour to go with pacey players and just hit on the break time and time again. I done it against Lazio in the Europa League after 75 mins accidentally as wasn’t paying attention and we scored 4 goals and had over 3.5XG in that time period. Absolutely broken :lol:

I don't get the Serie A non-EU rules.

This season I bought two non-EU newgens plus Endrick. As the game is stupid it made me pick which of the newgens gets the priority non-EU spot and it did not let me choose Endrick who was arriving two weeks later. I assumed it wouldn't let me pick him as they granted him a spot when I agreed to buy him last year, I was wrong.

It says if I sell one of my non-EU players he can take his spot. I have had to wait until January as two of my non-EU players (Segovia and Tyreece John-Jules) are out on loan, I can't recall John-Jules but Segovia's loan ends in December. I assume I can register Endrick for the Europa League and use him there, I was wrong.

January hits and I sell Segovia but the squad registration screen is still telling me Endrick can't be registered as I don't have a non-EU slot...

Edit: Seems to have registered a different non-EU player, ffs.

I went ultra defensive and trying to keep possession. He keeps booting it as hard as he can as quickly as he can even though he's on roll it out and take your time.

First season went well from a media prediction of 18th, although the final table flattered me as the top six was cemented with at least four games to go.

Karel Poborsky has taken over again and floated the club on the stock market, combine that with some big sales and I've got at least 2/3 of an entirely new squad in the space of a year so am aiming for at least playoffs.

Seems in this one you get a lot more of the players announcing early that they're going to consider options at the end of the contract, I've no idea if they ever decide to stay as that's my cue to immediately cash in and not gamble. Hamer for £20m and Gyokeres for £7.5 has funded my overhaul

Our board wanted us to finish in the top half so mission accomplished but after finishing 7th and feeling like we were close to the top 5 this annoyed me. We failed to build on last year for three reasons. Firstly we didn't replace Casadei who was our best player, secondly we struggled to hold onto leads (the Saliterna game we were 3-0 up for example or against Udinese we were 3-2 up in injury time but lost 4-3. Thirdly our pitch is seemingly constantly watterlogged so games keep getting postponed and then we have ridiculous schedules late on.

I had this idea that I wanted to build a team with Leao and Kvaratskhelia as the two stars on either wing, which led me to start with Milan, bit I think I have a pretty low chance of building the stature and money to get KK from Napoli. Norwich Season 2 2023/24 - Mid Season Update

So after the debacle with almost all of my players having 100% wage increases clauses on promotion, our transfer budget was cut from £40m to £11m. Not quite the WARCHEST I'd hope for to stay in the Premier League.

The rest you know about so won't bother with screenies of them. Some shit went out on loan and we started the season far short of where I wanted us to be, but if we could finish above the two other promoted clubs and just one of last season's PL teams I would take that all day long.

In more frustration, the fixture list was a complete fucker. Words cannot describe how I felt having seen our decent start and morale tanked by playing Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City in succession, to only realise we then had to play Tottenham, Man Utd and Liverpool one after the other as well. Thankfully morale wasn't completely fucked by the time we hit the nice run in December and a couple of choice team meetings saw us above the drop zone going into the turn of the year.

In the Summer there was a 17 year old CB from Spain that I wanted to sign for £7.5m and I hoped to sign him in January but he still wasn't interested so I went in for this guy. He's slightly better than the 17 year old but a bit older, he's come in and started almost every game since signing though.

Two big transfers out in Baturina and Odin Thiago Holm. I did not want to sell Baturina but Atalanta activated his release clause and he's been a bit crap there (20 starts and 21 sub appearances with only 5 goals, 3 assists and an average rating of 6.85 in all comps). With Odin he was my third choice CM at the time but his price range was too high to justify leaving him on the bench especially when there wasn't much between him and the 4th choice guy.

We were a little shaky before the break and the board weren't happy as we were 11/12th (with a game or two in hand mind) and they wanted a top half finish. After the break we seemed to just click. We only lost to Inter and Milan with our only other dodgy result being 1-1 against Verona. We even managed to slay Juve in a brilliant match:

I was so mad that when their second went in I walked away from my PC. They had only lost 1 up to that point (this was the start of a 3 game losing streak for them) but we were so good.

I put a screenshot of that up here when it happened. We went 3-0 up quickly and then the game decided we couldn't pass or have any decent first touch so we lost late 4-3.

I'm quite happy with the squad now. Caprile whilst he did concede a lot and didn't pick up many clean sheets he's letting in a lot fewer mistakes and making some big stops. The defence is looking great as is the midfield and attack.

I will say that Delap was, for the second season running, the third highest scorer in the league but he's so inconsistent. He had a streak of 7 games with no goals at one point but then turns around and bangs in 7 in 7. If Endrick didn't want to go (if he had 2/3 years on his contract I'm strong arm the little shit) I might see if we could get a big offer for him.

I was going into the final matchday on the same points as Napoli, but having lost both games against them. Then for 83 solid minutes Pisa (20th in the league btw) were doing the classic superkeeping effort, aided by me starting Ibra in an effort to create a nice storyline for the last game of his career, and him delivering a solid 5.9 performance. Quite a few I watched last year played it straight through. The video series with Zealand, benjy, lollujo and WTS was also quite critical for streamers in bed with SI.

Squad Planner - literally no point. Lack of detail, data and information longer term. The kne area where it could be useful, International Management, it doesn't exist.

International Management - Still can't train, rest, no improvements. In my save France lost the Qatar WC final, but due to how the AI interprets fitness, come the final fucking Mbappe and other major stars were on the bench as they were played in no hope fixtures in the group and were beyond knackered.

Supporter Confidence - Literally does not work. Proven by an actual SI mod who deliberately lost matches 14-0 etc, and supporters were 'enjoying the style of football' and seeing promising signs. It also currently ties into board decisions, and despite not really working, can lead to you being fired after like 3 matches.

AI is as atrocious as ever. They have far less formations to choose from (check how many play DMs. No MCs). Si employee admitted they have remov3d a selection of potential AI manager tactic styles and shapes. Same old fucking stupid transfers. Same old aging AI squads as the game progresses as their entire dealings are based on rep, not ability. No smarter AI in matches, same old stupid transfer bids (had Diaby at Leverkusen. Star player. Worth over 100mil. Chelsea offered me 50m, rejected. Next day they offer 25, and never went above that again).

ME - defending is absolutely atrocious. The worst I've seen. I've played about 150-200 matches in it. Just shockingly bad. Goalkeepers are of equal measure. Beyond ahit. They've added randomness to improve turnovers, which should make it more exciting but as ever the more matches you play, you get used to the same passages of action and can spit it a mile off ("the wb is gonna miscontrol here and they'll score/95th minute and they have a throw in and it's gonna be a goal" and so on). IFs and IWs still don't work correctly. Strikers are actually quite OP this year, silly numbers. I figured out how to counter and break it, but it's literally the identikit very attacking, gegenpress system, just using low block.

Set pieces - Same shit system to set them up. Still broken near post corners.

And on top of that the fucking thing flickers like a drunk having a fit during a match on my g-sync monitor unless I cap its FPS to 120 or under.

When I came to Sampdoria I made a load of focuses and after about a season it started looking like this duplicating ones, scouts would be taken off their focuses etc etc.

Set it up again (takes about half an hour) and it seemed fine for about three seasons but it's just done it again.

I had like 15/16 different focuses most of which are now gone and I've got so many scouts doing nothing.

When I brought him in on a free he was never going to play regular football for us, I wanted to loan him out but Fulham came in with a decent off and I got them to agree to 50% next sale too.

I did think about possibly selling him (and I think we could have gotten more) but I didn't want to do it when I knew Endrick would have to leave. The board accepted a decent off from Juve and he's barely played (2 starts in the league and a handful of sub appearances). Vlahovic is still only 27 so Delap wont be getting games for a while.

We had offers giving us more money (United came in early with £48m most of which on instalments and 20/30% of profit and Everton offered £50m straight) but I rejected them and then interest dried up. We were running out of time to sell him and only Inter and Brentford were making offers. Brentford kept low-balling us but we negotiated £30m with 50% next sale. I think it's worked out well as his value has sky rocketed and he's at a club he will want to move away from soon.

Our best player, he wanted to move and I was batting away offers constantly with a few days before the window CLOSED Bayern made a £90m bid with 20% of profit which my board accepted.

I might train him at AMC (accomplished right now) and buy another striker though as I think he'd wreck teams there.

We were 10 points behind 4th at one point but we came back strong and were 6 points behind with 3 games in hand but we shat the bed hard in the final two months. Team was tired and we struggled to put away teams at times and lost a lot of points late.

Well we won a game. We were leading against Lazio 2-1 but then let them score in the 92nd minute to send it to ET which was horrendous.

In the league phase I was annoyed we only drew with Rangers who were shit but we managed to sneak into the playoffs on GD. We then blasted Newcastle in the first leg but we had a shaky moment in the second. I actually made subs and walked away from my PC in the 75th minute as it was 1-1 and we had a 3 goal lead which I thought they couldn't come back from, they almost did.

Against PSG we did well at home but it wasn't a contest in France.

A whole season in one update here as I was enjoying it too much to fuck about with updates.

Starting with the transfers, we were given a budget of £40m and a wage budget of £1.9m, which was great as we had a load of shit leaving the club and serious room to manoeuvre in the market as a result.

Simons comes in as probably the best CM we have and adds great value there. He has also filled in at RB a couple of times.

32-year old Matt Godden scoring 30 league goals made the difference although points to the first thing that needs addressing in the summer as there's no way he's keeping that up where he is, never mind the top flight.

Karel Poborsky raking in the best part of £30m for Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres against my wishes did allow me to do a big squad overhaul, Marcondes and Hector both falling into the sweet spot of top division players not doing much for their clubs which results in bargain buys, Alfie Jones on a free was the other. Magallan threw a wobbly about not playing so five months after signing for free I sold him to Toulouse for a cool £3m

Had barely any fit CMs and have 4 world class full backs so thought i'd rip off DS' idea with the FB/WB combination. Seemed to work well, even before the red card. Was originally just a sole DM and 2 Shadow Strikers but they were getting a fair amount of room so dropped one back to be a Roaming Playmaker after the red card and there was a key highlight every 3 mins. Krul retired so we needed a number 1 keeper as a result. Not ideal due to his age, but Liverpool beat me to the other target and first choice I had so here we are.

I have two keepers at the club, Elia Caprille and Charlie Setford. Caprille seems to decide now and then that he wants to be a dick and let goals in whilst also moaning about leaving (he moaned when someone made a bid in the Summer, said he'd stay if he got a new contract and then a week after signing said contract wanted to move). Setford on the other hand seems to have barely progressed. As such I wanted a keeper with tonnes of potential. Sosa had to start the first few games as Caprille was injured and did ok despite not being able to speak to our defenders. He's played a fair chunk this year and his value has gone boom.

One of the best Italian MC/AMC's (that I could afford) so I felt I had to buy him. I think he looks really handy and has done alright on loan.

I felt we had 3 good first team strikers but we needed a 4th. I wanted to buy Moukoko last year when Delap and Endrick left but he wanted mental wages, this year he was reasonable. He's not as good as he should be in my game as Dortmund barely played him and stunted his growth but he's fast and can finish.

Another of my scouts picks that I'm not overly sure about. When I first scouted him he was 4.5 gold stars potential, when he officially joined he went down to 3 and then up to 4 a week later. So that makes me wary about him being great.

We looked like it was going to be an easy ride to 5th but then we turned to shit in March and April and I thought we were going to fall as low as 8th and miss out on Conference football. Then that weird Juve result happened and it lifted us, we even became the league highest scorers.

Finished 4th in the league phase easily and I thought we had an outside chance at winning. I'm really annoyed we lost to Bologna who we battered in the first leg and had someone sent off at the start of the second half.

Player of the season is Jonay Arrocha who is just incredible and has now re-trained as an AMC and starting almost all games there. I think it might be time to sell my starting full backs (Klapan and Castagnaro) as they aren't progressing anymore despite starting all the time, Caprille has been sold already and I may look to sell Baturina. Leonardo could also leave as he's now 4th choice but he does score when called upon.

Mate tell me about it. I managed Hibs the season they were in the Scottish second tier with rangers and hearts, promoted first season, won the SPL first fuckin season up. Celtic pipped me next two years, then I won the league about ten years in a row largely using my b team, while losing in the later champions League knockout rounds over and over again. Fuck knows how or why I persisted so long.

I've only gone through like a couple of months but I can't say I've seen anything egregious so far, at least to the extent pointed out here/in the SI forums. That's not to say the game is good, as it suffers from all its usual flaws (and more), but I could understand how the average joe that doesn't delve deep into the game and the ME could think it's a good game. And sadly, it's the average joe that's the main target of this (and any, really) game, so SI gets another free pass on doing nothing for another year.
