Yup. I'm hating Tammy in elite division, but it's worth putting up with him to enjoy Mkhi and he's only on about 7 chemistry. He's just as good a striker as he is a CAM.

Managed to work it down to 5 games to go now with some play and some AFK. There are some right freaks at the game in this division.

The main difference is the skill moves. Most can do the odd one or two and it's sometimes helpful. But these guys can get through your defence with a chain of them. I've been absolutely ruined a few times.

I can indeed cover off one of the 89 squads. But even with that and my coins I'll need 1.2m ish worth of stuff in 30 days to get him done.

From a club perspective, the last thing I need is a big attacker. My team is crying out for a 2nd CM and some CBs. However, as with Messi last year, this card will likely have negligible difference to his TOTY/S cards and as such be likely the only chance to pick one of those up.

I could legit do Ramos and The Fridge or Prime Desailly, or even look at that Matthaus. But that's pretty much giving up all chance of Mbappers. At a bit of a fork in the road.

I also missed a token so Ansaldi was one away from me(am I fuck buying the store one for 100k). Instead I put those tokens into the fodder packs and got a Suarez and Brun O'Fernandes back.

As yet nothing has left the club that I'm bothered about too much. The two future stars objectives have gone as has Lamela(tried him and didnt like) and Gattuso. No card has yet gone from my first team squad page. I'm close in rating to one of the other 87's but even without it my calculations have me at having knocked 1.3m off already with 900k-1m to go.

I have half of that at least in coins, so it actually looks pretty promising.

This new promo actually gives players +3, broken down into three +1 upgrades. If your player is a team regular he's going to get the full whack almost guaranteed. A damn good Tonali SBC to start too.

Like you Danny I also want to do Ramos as it all links together well if I do. The good progress made so far on Mbappe makes me kind of want to hang fire and switch it over.

I'm currently about 300k short of Mbappe taking my coins into account, but can also finish Ramos off with coins. Mbappe does have 29 days left to Ramos' 8, but I'd seethe hard if I got all but 1 squad of Mbappe done.

I copied your homework but I will say from the bench usage he got for me, Muriel is probably going to be about the best bang for buck attacker you’ll squeeze into this mode.

As for the classic cup. It’s nice having the halves so short so the game is out of the way, but my 3rd opponent yesterday figured out what I have. If you go a goal, especially if it’s two, up, you then just need to play possession for possessions sake. By the time they switch to a constant pressure tactic 10 mins have gone by in game at least.

Rattled off Simon last night. If someone didn’t quit when I scored then I just put the controller down. Nice and easy.

I've just noticed, the players in this promo are not eligible for upgrade until after April 1st. Just under 2 weeks until they can begin to get a boost. I also hope they boost them as soon as they get the desired result and not wait for the 5 games to be done.

If you do get one of the 87/88 rated ones, might be worth holding it, assuming you dont need to use it right away, might turn into much better fodder in a few weeks.

He is Wolves first choice keeper, started 29 out of 30, so should get that +1.
Wolves have Villa at home, Newcastle away, City home, Burnley away and Brighton home. You would think they get 1 win from the latter two.

2-3 I score an OG and look to hold the ball to speed it up.

8-1 in qualy and ran into my first POTM Mbappe. He went straight on a skill run with him and ruined most of my team. I won the ball back, smashed it into my own net and quit. CBA.

Got a Mahrez from the packs and not much else, but that lead me to check how I'd be looking for an 88 squad. This is for Mbappe and potential Ramos purposes. Turns out if I managed to do POTM Courtois, I can knock off an 88 squad. Or I can quite comfortably do the 87 without him. There would be some casualties, but none that would really make the first team.

According to FUTBIN, with current prices, if I get the 87 done, 655k remains. If I do the 88, 575k remains instead. I have 525k currently. Now I'm not going to submit anything until Icon Swaps comes out because some of these cards may be really useful in that, but after that, I could legitimately have Mbappe done by the end of next week.
As for Ramos, I just dont think I can do both in time unless something crazy happens in some rewards.

Decided to check some stats on the main squad which has been lining up like this:

I've great returns from Neymar, Mkhi and Greasyman, especially as those 3 rotate between CAM and wide roles as well at ST. Dembele has also put in some decent work though his card does feel a bit meh beyond his pace now. Tammy however plays as a ST always and usually my strikers get a goal per game. It's true of Lautaro, Origi and Daka from what I have in the club. Tammy is less than a goal every 2 games now. I did think I wasn't doing great with him, but I didn't realise it was to this extent.

After checking that I went into the 82+ packs. Dumped most of the club and was getting back only 82's/83's. Got a dupe Coady TOTW which forced my hand into doing FF Caligiuri. Then the next was Bourigeud TOTW, which allowed me to swap my treadeable one out. Then came an 87 De Jong and then to top it off Kante out of the last one.

Those last two are great for the Classic cup but also great helps in the Mbappe hunt. I've looked again at Ramos but high rated fodder is up right now as such he's now rated at over 600k. I'm just not sure I can do that. He'd also pose a slight problem in that Lafont only soft links to him, so I'm locked into a Ligue 1/french/Icon CB partner to him if I do it.

I do have 650kish now to hand and over the next week or so I will be adding that nuts Mbappe and either Cafu or Gerrard to the club. Gerrard looks like an option because of my need for a midfield partner to Guendouzi. He'd also help with links everywhere. He's also "free" and has been given a pretty good card now. Cafu is still Cafu though.

Looking a bit up the road. If I do manage to keep my coins as I do Mbappe, there's some interesting players coming into my price range. Some of the cheaper TOTY cards are right there(Lewa is, the full backs and Jorginho really not far off). I really need to stop looking at all of these fancy attackers though!

I can now turn to the absolute joy of 18 squad battles games. I've sacked off the idea of Gerrard. It's either Cafu or I take the 82+ x 25 and Prime Icon/Xavi. The thinking behind the latter is depending on the fodder, I might be able to squeeze out Ramos, but it's a big ask even so. And there's always the roll of the dice on that Icon.

I've got a couple of dupe 84s to put into something, but it's either Tonali or Ramos from what I see. As for high rated fodder, I can tick off the 88 for Mbappe and I reckon a long way to the 87 as well from what I have now, though there would be some sacrifices. Then only the 89 would remain. Currently listed at 359k on FUTBIN for that, but with what I'd have to buy to bump my 88 squad up, it'd be worth starting new again anyway for that squad. Club would absolutely be empty of all but my first team and bench at that point I reckon.

I had to put in the dupe 84s into the start of Ramos. After that I can tick off the 85 in there too, but haven’t submitted.

I’ve had to take one of the kids up to hospital today so will look when I get back but I think I can tick off the 87 and 88 on Mbappe without spending. If so I’ll be right on the point of finishing him but I will need to buy the cards for the last 89 squad. Then it’s a case of deciding if I want to go on and try to make a late completion of Ramos or put into Tonali.

84+ 3 player pick is out and is repeatable 2 times over. I had some 82 rated TOTWs in the club, 2 of which untradeable so took the gamble. Two 85s was making me think just selling the TOTW was the move but a last gasp Sterling helps a lot. He'll also be great for classic cup later.

I've done my usual trick of picking up a load of Joao Cancelo's. He's down to 15k ish and regularly rebounds up to 20k.

Down to one single (87)squad for Mbappe now. Kante has gone along with a lot of objective players that I'll just never use now this swaps is done. I'm screwed for classic cup, but it is what it is.

Now comes the tricky part. I have sold up what tradeable assets I have and sit a smidge over 400k. I have the stuff left to finish Mbappe right now, but that does wipe players from my bench and reserve spots. I'd have almost nothing left outside of the first team and the stuff to do an 85. At current costs, to finish both Tonali and Ramos outside of that, would cost me 512k. Obviously I'm short of that by some way.

I suppose the other option is to try and what those cards into an 88 for Ramos as that's half the above outlay. This way around would see me just about have enough for both but then Mbappe would have to wait a week or so.

Tonali seems way too good value for a card that will at least get to 91 you feel. Ramos I just don't know. Has anyone used him. He just seems very expensive for what he is. The pace isn't really that high compared to cards that are about either. I feel like he could have been better for that price.

Tonali is in. I did the 85 for him with aforementioned fodder and out of that pack popped a Modric. I took that as a sign and put up a squad for his 86. I did have to buy a Kroos as the 88 I had in just wouldn't work for chemistry.

Played my classic cup and I've 2 wins to go from here. Was so close to all 3 today but I'm shit at pens. I also used a spare draft token I apparently had. The game gave me a 4-3-2-1 with a midfield of 90 Gullit, prime Zidane and 93 KDB as well as prime Maldini and Garrincha to boot. The only downside was no actual striker, so I played TOTY Cancelo up there and he did a fine job. Won all 4 and then got the worst possible reward set.
This is the first time I've ever used Gullit or Zidane and good lord I don't know how anyone loses a game with them. They're outstanding.

380k in the kitty at present. Apparently Perisic to come tonight. I'm holding off on Ramos at least for now. Mainly I can't really afford him without going broke and also I want to see what team 2 has in store and see that Perisic. From talking to Thomma there's chance he's a LWB as that's been where he's been used a fair bit. However Dembele is apparently coming as a ST and I'm pretty sure he isn't one.

The pricing of this team 2 is very strange to me. The prices of Coutinho and Dembele is absolutely nuts. Yet then Perisic is somehow only 150k. Get an engine on him and if he gets +2/3 then he's amazing. Or if he does get a +3, you could get a shadow on him and use him as a great CM option.

Pedro could be a low key beast of the team too with his stats now, just for his reactions and weird pace split.

Managed to qualify for Champs this morning 8-2 and with a follow up 5-1 start, Cafu is mine. That's RB locked down for the rest of the game and also frees up an 85 in Hakimi, who while great going forwards, isn't really there going backwards. Cafu has his pants down in that regard, but really so he should for a card 8 ratings higher.

Prices seem to have returned to normal after the original Icon SBC release. People just dont want it. As such Ramos is down to 490k. He's within my range now, but it would empty the coin balance. I've chucked dupes in and done 2/3 of Perisic. He can likely wait til post WL rewards.
I can either break the bank and get him in for the rest of the run, or try to cram it in before 6pm tomorrow and see what rewards the packs bring.

I should be adding Cafu, Perisic and POTM Mbappe along with moving Tonali and perhaps Ramos into the first team over the coming week. Half the team getting a boost pretty much.

Ramos finished. The losses of Chalobah, Daka and Tammy are felt by the club. In truth, the former two only ever came out in Icon Swaps/squad battles. Daka still felt good and could be bought again, but Chalobah was, with the arrival of Tonali and the 88 Nunes, out of a job. Even the American objective CM probably has more use at this point.

About 160k remains in the club. Just shy of the Mbappe mark. Apparently we get player picks tonight, so I'll wait until then to see if I can add any fodder before completing the WL run later.

Kind of regret not doing Desailly. Only problem with it is I'm now kind of locked into a Ligue 1 CB, unless it were an Icon.

Okay that was the most fun WL I've had thus far. The defensive improvements felt massive. Ramos really does take ball or man. Cafu also much better at nicking the ball away.

The midfield pairing of Calgliuri and Tonali was rock solid. They can do everything and will hopefully get some upgrades too. Di Natale was good fun, but he and Lautaro struggled to score this weekend. It was Mkhi or Neymar off the wing that seemed to get it done. Ended up finishing 15-5. I lost two games in extra time in the run in.

Reds were poor. Not even an 84 to select in all 3 picks. I was really hoping for a Coman or Ben Yedder so I had the excuse to give them a shot in the team, or Robbo for obvious reasons. I got a couple of 87 walkouts from the packs but I did manage to get Coman in the TOTW pack. Crazy that he's only 40k!

That's likely enough now to finish off Mbappe with coins and probably Perisic too. I'll wait to see what the player picks bring and if we get any other SBCs before I do them later in the week though.

The versatility of the two wide players there opens up pretty much every formation for me and it has everyone on 10 chem. I do love working Serie A into a squad if I can. So many good value players. The only downside to this set up is to keep Tonali and Caligiuri on 10 chem, I need to line them up like above and that means keeping an Italian Icon, Italian Serie A or AC Milan player in the ST position.

I'd love to try Del P out, but they really do him dirty on his cards.

Moving Ginola to the right thanks to 5* and also thinking of buying PIM Beckham as he looks unreal and got a WF upgrade. Ideally, I need a RM who can move into CM and its him or PIM Schweinsteiger but its 840k vs 1.1m for very comparable players. If I could get Caliguri on chem that would work perfectly but it's a no go.

As you've Kante there already, I'd lean towards Beckham. It gives you a more progressive guy from the centre. The biggest problem with Kante is that he often gets the most time with the ball, but cant pass it. Shuffling it over to Beckham and letting him hold the fort down seems like the move. You'll lose something defensively, but as mentioned you already have help for him there.

Also he pretty much has perfect set pieces. Imagine yourself banging a free kick top corner with Beckham.

I'd also say Mbappe should probably be going up top and it is indeed time to bench Ronny.

I find that with Kante a lot. Passing is such a letdown. I use gold KDB for that role next to him right now.

The problem with Beckham is his run up takes two weeks. As soon as you start to line it up people run back onto the line. I find myself looking to fake people out with the shot and the short pass instead. His passing and corners are lovely though, if only I knew how to cheese them like a lot of people do.

Hopped on Rivals tonight and went from the start of Div 2 all the way up to the first milestone in Div 1 with successive wins. I thought I'd bogged down at the promotion game and was 4-0 down. Thought about quitting but I'd noticed he struggled with when I pressed, so I went 4-4-2 constant pressure. 5-4 up by the 85th minute. I was through on goal for a 6th but he hacked me down and quit.

Perisic was lovely. Introduced himself in the best way possible too.

Did you use TOTY Donnarumma? I got his 89 in a PP yesterday so thought screw it and put him in for my Rivals run. I can't say I noticed a massive difference between him and my 86 Lafont. He didnt flap any into the net yet though.

I had another crack at Rivals today and FINALLY got into Elite division. So tough when you get into that win one, lose one, rut. I got to one game away and twice pulled off a 90+ min equaliser to keep me there, before a nice 4-0 RQ got me over the line.

Something feels off with Lautaro. He felt much better off the bench previously, but maybe that's a case of the rest of the team jumping to catch him up. I was also daft about the Italian Icon thing. I could actually use any central Icon if I moved Tonali to start at striker.

I got him in a PP. Looks like he could be great with a potential +3. Sheriff has leaked pretty much the last FF player SBC will be Medina from Ligue 1. He's a CB from the same club as Clauss and Fofana so there's a link triangle there. Looks to be one of those high pace but low physical type trade off CBs.

He's also said the next showdown will come over Juve v Inter. Says that the players are McKennie v Brozovic.

Depending on how they line up their stats, both of those SBCs appeal to me. Brozovic would be a perfect link to Perisic and would allow me to drop out Martinez if he persists in feeling crap. It'd also let me change formation up a bit if needed as well. The only downside is it would need me to drop Tonali or Caligliuri. I can't play with 3 CM types as it's a bit too unflexible for me. Hopefully in that case, Brozovic comes with something around 86 pace. The rest of his card with natural upgrades should be great anyway.

Did some PP's and got another Alvarez. I have him and a Jose Sa sitting there. Not sure what to do with them. If I sell I will have 4 recoveries by the time they need to be saved. Thinking I will delay for 3/4 more days and hope we can sneak in a quick update or two this weekend before throwing into SBC's.

Rewards opened. Fat Boy Shaw as a red is nice FODA and I got a Sterling as well as a few 85/4's. Recycling them though got me the money. A Kane, Ter Stegen, Marquinhos, Parejo amongst others have allowed me to finally submit the last squad for Mbappe. I believe my total spend for him was the cost of one 89 squad.

I'll be doing some play offs today with him.

Where to go next with it is the question. I haven't yet touched that Malen card. He looks to be a great bench option and if he does get 2/3 boosts he should be a great card, but will I ever really use him? My new setup drops Neymar and Griezmann to the bench and the squad page looks like so now:

I had a chuckle the other week of all of the great teams people build still having gold Kimpembe, well I'm part of the problem now. He's probably who should upgrade next.
Looking at next steps though and I wonder where it goes. Unfortunately they've been really stingy on the Icon SBCs for actual players this year. If I don't want Malen or to sell a kidney to do the 92+ moments pack, the the only two options for fodder to go into are those two released PIM SBCs.

Cole makes little sense from here. Mendes is very comparable to him and slightly edges him on pace and physicals. Socrates as mentioned before holds some interest for me, but that is another 1m to put in for him. I'd also likely just be doing him because he's there.

Sheriff did reckon we've a showdown SBC and a Ligue 1 FF CB still to come so I guess holding off is the move, but they don't usually release stuff on a Thursday if I remember right.

The 90-rated Marquinhos is only about 500k. He'd be a solid upgrade on Gimpembe. Or the TOTS is 1.something million.

I’ve tried to jump in to get that Mendes one done quick and it’s taking 5+ mins to match with someone. Then when you do people are playing golden goal.

Both objective cards ticked off. I just couldn't find a game for the Ligue 1 stuff on PS4. Switched to PS5 and good god that is a steaming pile.

It looks better and the animations look cleaner, but the gameplay is so off. I also noticed you pretty much have to play fast or the other teams AI auto puts them into Big Sam tactics. I tested it myself by putting my pad down and your team will automatically move back inside your area and will then drag your CDMs/CMs in front. Even your strikers get pulled back to help out.

Pretty much everyone I faced would just hold a CM and make me pass it around in front of them. So dull.

I wish I had known that, although finding games will be your biggest issue. Neither of those two objectives look anything ground breaking. Just either 2 x 89 FODA or an 88 and 90.

What's more annoying to me is that Mendes is very similar to Brozovic. I'm on the fence about him. McKennie had clearly been given the better card. SM/WF doesnt matter as much on a pure CM type. Brozo also has a lean body type, so getting people off the ball would be more of a challenge. He'd look much more appealing with the upgrade, but with Inter being away I don't know.

After seeing more of these it just seems like your luck needs to be in to even get 1 good pick of the 3. I've found in general the Icon picks scale in pack weight depending on how they're priced. This one seems to be coming in around 700k or so. I only really have 300k plus maybe an 87 squads worth in my club right now.

I'd also like to get that Ligue 1 CB ticked off. Though he has 5 days remaining. Chance there to sneak in the Rivals rewards. Hopefully more player picks come through the week.

Speaking of Rivals I tried to tick off some wins towards the 8 earlier. Must have played 12 games. I've won 4 but drew all but one of the rest. Says to me I'm about in the right division, but almost all of my opponents were using the 4-2-2-2. I've been using the 3-4-1-2 for quite a while now as my main tactic, but the 4-2-2-2 is a hard counter to it.
I might have to find a good version of it and try it out.

So there may be something to this formation, or I just got in the zone. Made a 12-0 start to the weekend league. I only conceded goals in 3 off those.
I had two people leave at 0-0 in that run too.

Match 13 saw me match a crap silver team, but as expected he insta paused and quit without gifting. The replacement guy was seriously impressive but unusual. He was max pressure from the start. I decided to try and outlast him, but unfortunately he scored too many in that time for me to recover.

Honestly I’d be happy with the 11 wins, but from here I’ll be disappointed too not hit 14. 2 wins from 7 needed. No doubt I’ll crumble now I’m facing the Elite.

Full backs stay back
CDMs on cut passing lanes and cover center. You want your more defensive guy on stay back, and the more progressive guy on normal.
CAMs set to get into the box for crosses.
ST both to get in behind, however your pace merchant type on stay forward. The other is just normal and should be your more creative type. Ideally the one not staying forward should be on the same side as the CDM that stays back.

The idea is the attack is a bit more layered. If you find it doesn't do something you like, you can change the instructions off balanced. You'll find the CDM on balanced will move forwards with the attack and one of the strikers will not quite drop deep, but will start from deeper and so will be offset from the strike partner.
I found I preferred having the correct footing on the side of the CAM. Left footer on the left etc. I did have two 5* WF guys there though.
You'll have a lot of times you'll have it with one CAM and see the other running in behind the full back on the opposite side. Perfect for a back post cross.

Pretty deadly on the counter, though in an even game I found myself wishing I had someone that wasn't Lautaro as my more creative type ST.


I got Tchouameni, Bergwijn and Otavio as my reds. Diaz, Odegaard and some shitter in my TOTW pack. Some decent fodder in the rest which allowed me to get Medina FF done for free.

Biggest thing I noticed was a change in my possession. In most games I'll have 57-60%. With this quite a lot of time it was 50/50. However especially in that first 10 games, I was ruining people on the counter.

Those two should work lovely together. I had Tonali sitting and Caligliuri pushing on.

Hopped on Rivals to finish the 8 wins and scored a goal that kind of exemplifies the tactic. All really done just by passing into the space. The key to this is my opponent is like most you'll face. They try to cut out the pass and when you break through the line, they pressure with a defender. The big mistake he makes is when Mbappe gets the ball. He presses with Kimpembe, which is fine.
What he should have then done is track Mbappe back with Kimpembe, but he chases the ball. Now if you pause it when Caligliuri first gets the ball in his half, I have a 5 on 5 now. Once I lay it off to Mkhi, he continues the CB press. The pass back into Cali now gives me a 5 on 4.
Once he lets me turn with Lautaro he's done. The ball goes right into the space where Kimpembe should be.

Now against a better opponent, I probably don't score or, at least I dont that way. But most you will play, play like this guy. They just want to pressure the ball carrier at all times while cutting off what they see as the pass you want to make.

It's also a good example of despite Tonali and Cali having the same M/H workrates, Cali got to the point of running onto a pass into the box and burying it.

+1 for Cali in the bag with a win, but he missed a glorious chance for a goal and had an assist cleared off the line. They play again Wednesday and Saturday so he could well have his +2 done by the end of the week.

300k is a bit expensive for just a sub though no?

I put Medina in to try him today and he felt... okay. The pace upgrade on Kimpembe is nice, but bodying people off the ball was a lot harder. I went in for a few tackles that didn't come off which led to goals from it. Needs some getting used to. Their fixture list is tough though so he may well only end up with +1.

Classic cup coming back was quite the annoyance as I'd just this morning put my golds into McKennie. I can cobble together a passable team and won 2. The guy I lost to had IF Mbappe who really shouldn't be allowed in this game mode.

I figured even with a +2 Brozovic wouldn't be as good as the McKennie card. If Juve win, the card goes nuts. Ideally we get a Juve win with Perisic scoring, but I'm alright either way.

The club is pretty dry of golds now. I think I might have to cycle all the bronzes into silvers, silvers into golds and then the golds through that 5 x 75 pack.
