Bournemouth so so bad. Just stand off and let him shoot lads.
Same question for them - who is going to be off in the summer? Ake? Brooks? That Lloyd Kelly chap was rated when he moved there last summer wasn't he?

Does the whole of the ball across the whole of the line rule not apply there? Because it definitely wasn't.
Oh well, classic Bailly.

Once given there's not enough doubt to overturn it. Where does the shoulder cover? It does look to hit the top of his bicep but it's hard to tell.

The line is in the box, so any part of the ball on or over the line and it's in the box.

Iffy decision but christ knows what the play was building up to it and we're lucky he's gone offside too.

I genuinely don't understand what this means.
It probably means his chance conversion is off the charts and perhaps whatever that rate is is unsustainable in the long term.
Or he scores lots of unexpected goals?
The one against Brighton and the first today were clear goalkeeper errors.
niko_cee
04-07-2020, 04:00 PM
Meanwhile I see Leicester have managed to snap themselves out of the funk they were in. Fully expected that to be 0-0 when I looked at the score.
-james-
04-07-2020, 04:05 PM
I genuinely don't understand what this means.
The average player would score 2-3 goals from the shots he has taken this season, he's scored 8. The very best finishers (Messi, Kane, Lukaku etc.) outperform xG by about 20% so it would be reasonable to predict that he's going to have a goal drought before long as he regresses to the mean, especially if you consider that he likes taking shots from unfavourable positions.
He does seem quite good though I agree.

Origi can leather a ball which is a decent trick to have when you're surrounded by quality. Solanke's head has gone, he needs to get himself a guaranteed start every week in Championship and sort it out cause he could salvage something from the trainwreck his career has become.
Villa are dull af without a single attacker of any quality so send them down pls, Grealish and McGinn will resurface elsewhere. They've got enough Black Life dons at the back to come straight back up tbf.
Whoever of the other two goes down will be a little sad but if it's Watford at least we can sign Mane's regen.

I remember Djibril Cisse had that thwacking a ball quality. But he also had decent pace until his shins started bending at funny angles.

I see Southampton fans on twitter are salty about that. Fans of a mid-table club obviously astonished that other fans remember them losing by a Premier League record scoreline but don't remember their series of thumping 1-0 wins, creditable draws and narrow losses against similar teams since.

It's a strange issue we've had for 3 seasons now. That's why weve struggled recently, last three seasons we've won 5 or less at home. This year we are doing a bit better in mid table as we've won 8 away which is our best ever away return in a premier league season..
Next season we need to address that home form if were going to kick on. Hopefully the result yesterday gives them some confidence at St Mary's.

Southampton are doing just about right really. They've got some decent players and are hardly worse off squad/player-wise than the likes of Palace, Burnley and Sheff Utd who are all in their immediate vicinity in the league. Everton and Spurs (segueing into tonight's game) are the teams that stand out in that midfield bunch as the ones who ought to be doing better given their resources.

I don't think Wycombe would stand much chance. They wouldn't spend much and they've got where they are with a large slice of fortune. As I've said on here they play shithouse tactics a lot - I'm not sure if that would go for or against them in the Championship, and they really are just a bog standard League One club. That said, Ainsworth is doing a cracking job there.
Oxford have been quite impressive when I've seen them. Unlike Wycombe I don't particularly like their manager, and they love a bit of shithousery themselves, but they can play a bit.
FC Dallas have pulled out of this shit MLS re-start tournament (lol at the very idea of this, but I digress) because 10 players tested positive. Surely this is the first domino of many to fall, and they'll end up cancelling the whole thing.
Can see Wycombe shithousing the final (a repeat of the League Two final actually) and going up, but yeah they’ll sink straight away like Yeovil did. The chasm between the Championship and League One is growing exponentially so you’ve not only got to be good enough to get there, but also be well-run behind the scenes with a bit of clout, ideally. See Lansdowne at Bristol City. Pouring in millions for mid-table.

Is Zaha ever going to be allowed to leave Palace? All this talk of the likes of Traore commanding a massive fee, surely you'd be better off going for Zaha? Much more established quality. Was running the entire defence ragged there, although perhaps that's not the high praise it might have been in days gone by (when Chelsea could defend).
Chelsea are a good side, they certainly have one of the best squads in the league, in that there isn't much drop off in quality between their first and second XIs (if you had such a thing). It's just unusual for the sod the defence all out attack teams to be them and United.

That is total disrespect. Traore is playing at a higher level and is miles ahead of Zaha.

It's no surprise that in the traditional pre-season time of year all the soft as shit fancy dans are looking quite good in weird, off tempo games. I'd have Willian in a heartbeat, albeit as a backup. :baz:
One of the commentators made mention of the intensity of the Palace game earlier, but, to me, it looked as if Palace were playing in an uncharacteristically loose way, knocking it around in tight spaces at the back, stretching the game, an all-round unlike Woy-like effort, but very much within the summer football zeitgeist. Will be interesting to see if it persists into the new season, whatever that is going to look like.

On this, and I am being facetious as I can see a lot of potential upside on Traore, but I found a stat when I was trying to see how many games he'd played this season and it goes a little something like this. Traore has created 10 'big chances' according to the premier league (whatever they are). He has 9 assists. Raul Jimenez is amazing.

The main problem is all the challengers are variously ragtag misfits and/or serial losers.
I mean, I'm not having Luis Alberto as some sort of attacking maestro. Filipe Caceido scored for them tonight ffs. The double-barreled Serb Lazio have though, he's always looked a player whenever I've watched them. He'd be one to pay the asking price for.

There was contact, the ref gave a foul, it's never getting overturned. Would be the same for the 'push' on Greenwood earlier. It's the original decision that is the problem.
Unrelated, but I was talking to someone today about how many actual howlers VAR has corrected this season. It has to be less than ridiculous offside goals it's ruled out. I recall Aubameyang's goal against United where he was about 5 yards on and the linesman they'd paid just stuck his flag up automatically, and a few others, but really, is it all worth it? Look at Chris Wilder last night. His team score a 93rd minute winner in a crunch game, and, well, I know there's no fans there, but he's on the sideline giving it the old Rafa calm down patty hand treatment when he should be staging a one man pitch invasion. It's not right. Is there anyway to put Pandora back in her box?
