What are the main new features? I've not played for a few years.

Genuinely, half the features they announced were already in FM19 (short term loans etc.)

- ME Improvements
- Development Centre for U23 and U18
- Club Vision (which will probably be viewed once in any career mode, at the start of the save)
- Backroom Advice overhaul

Basically, a data update.

Pleb
31-10-2019, 06:33 PM
Club Vision is the only notable thing that's new to the game apart from the usual graphics update etc.

I've started with Liverpool, won the Community Shield and am about to play my first game of the season.

Signed up Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for £66million and Steven Sessegnon for £14million, while selling Lovren for £30.5 million with another £8mil if he plays.

The bigger news is that Jonathan Panzo and Erling Haaland are set to sign next summer, having already agreed deals, I wanted to give them a season where they are but make sure I had them.

John Arne
04-11-2019, 07:39 PM
First season done - quite enjoyed it - the game seems a little quicker this year.

Lost the community shield, but won 11 of my first 12 league games - thinking I was gonna romp the league - however, December came and about 30 games in 2 months (league, carabao, world club cup, European cup) - I managed to lose league games, and also only managed 3 wins in my last 8.

In the end, finished 3rd in the league, behind Manchester clubs. Won the Euro Super Cup, World Club Cup and Carabao Cup. Inter beat me in the CL Quarters on away goals.

I also signed Savic and Haaland, and sold Lovren :D

How is it better?

More responsive, the match engine feels better (although there is an issue with 1v1s currently, but it is a beta). They've implemented new plans for clubs, so you have a seasonal plan with goals and aspirations and a long term plan with multiple targets to achieve. I haven't had a player piss and moan about lack of playing time yet as, when you offer new contracts, you can pick their specific roie in the squad (fringe player, impact sub, squad player, star player etc). A lot of QoL implementations. Training is the same as last year, which I liked anyway.

u18s and u23s have been moved to the development centre, and you can get early feedback on youth intakes, so say a month or two before they come in you'll receive a report from your DoF or HOYD with information about whats good and bad etc. Game is a lot more responsive (although my PC spec is ridiculous so it helps), and I've yet to see an actual, big annoyance bug.

Whatever they’ve done to speed it up is welcome. I’m noticing smoother processing, lack of juddering in games (I can play new shooters on my Mac without issue so I’ve always felt it’s their optimisation). Too early to say what dev centre impacts, and otherwise it’s an update at the end of the day, but I’m enjoying it.

For perhaps the first time ever in CM/FM I took over Arsenal first, having done my usual and loaded up with Swedish Feb 2020 start date and found them 9th, coupled with my detest for Emery’s management of the club at the moment it felt a good option. Drew with Sheffield United and needed away goals to beat Rennes in the Europa but since then have won 5 on the bounce to head back to the top 6 and get through to Roma in the EL semis. Glad to see that not only are Nelson, Nketiah, Sami and EMS great prospects, but also John-Jules and Balogun from the U18s. Should be a nice save to ease into the new game before heading for a downloaded 8th Tier club or similar.

Oh, and a) wonderkids seem more reasonably priced from the scouting I’ve done, and b) I like the contracts / player pathway promises where you tell kids what role they’ll have over the duration of a contract year by year.

I still play CM0102 with the updates and I doubt that's going to change. I did give 2019 a little go, I think but I swiftly lost interest.

Maybe if I ever have a machine capable of making the game run as fast as CM then I'd be more inclined but I want to rattle out seasons and play casually these days.

Playing mobile, standard Arsenal save first up. Managed to pip United to 4th and beat them in the Europa League final having spunked £55m on Declan Rice. Christmas in second season now, got Haaland for £90m then realised I have too many strikers, tried playing 3 outright strikers and did a Spurs, tweaked it back slightly and am now top 6 and escaped a tasty CL group with Napoli and Dortmund. See how long until I get bored before I fire up a 30 season Barrow marathon :D

A lot of places shit the bed this year because clubs are a lot more on it with copyright, Juventus not being named correctly for instance. There is even an 'Arsenal Edition' you can pay extra for so all player pics, club crest and kits are accurate. Not sure what other clubs are. As such people are more reluctant to make or host logo packs. I got an alternative one for mobile which looks good.

My Arsenal save I got sacked in the third season before Christmas. Sold old Aubameyang to Chelsea for £40m, Özil left on a free having been player of the year the season before but refusing to sign a contract. I tried to focus on youth but results were all over the place so can't complain really. Might start another one at some point going for more established talent.

Not sure whether to go for a challenge save, Journeyman career or hometown club save next.

This Chelsea save that I'm on is a dumpster fire. Most of the squad are out injured and half of the squad hates my living guts.

On the plus side plodding along in the Champions League and trying to get top 4-6 in the Premier League. Reece James is a solid starter right from the get go but that still doesn't sort out my fucking wing back problem.

Started an unemployed unqualfied no rep save. Got a job at York, got them promoted, took a job a league up at Newport, got them promoted. Par for the course all my best players were cherry picked and I was relegated. Before the end of that season though I was offered a job with the marginally better Carlisle. Took that job but think it's gonna be an Unai Emery effort as my 'best' team is piss poor in terms of performance if not stats and any decent transfers either want too much, or don't want to come on loan at all. Think I might be plying my trade somewhere else shortly.

Nice, good job in that league.

I am still in my journeyman career although have been at Doncaster for a few years now, got them in the Prem finishing 1 point out of the european places in the first season. Highlight dramatically was going to Birmingham last day of Championship season with them 1 point ahead of me to be top of the table and winning 3-2 having been behind twice to win the league and automatic promotion (chasing pack were so close a loss would have bumped me to a play off berth).

Took over Brentford in October of the first season with them in 23rd, led them to the playoffs and somehow battered Stoke 8-2 in aggregate. Around March I'd requested the youth recruitment get beefed up with the promise that I'd look to bring youth players into the first team, turned out they meant immediately as I was sacked for not doing so the day before the playoff final, which the caretaker then won to take them up.

Just been rejected by Forest due to my complete inexperience with getting teams promoted, lovely stuff.

Random FM question. I've basically always had no youth squad or youth coaches, and just put them all in the first team with "available for 90 mins" for the u23 games etc. Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this? Easier to build one massive group of good coaches.

Journeyman save is now in the year 2040 and after a bad start a few seasons in to my Doncaster tenure they binned me off the ungrateful fucks so I took a sabbatical with Rayo Vallecano, in my second season Leeds came knocking in the relegation zone with a £50m transfer kitty. Since then I have won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League with them, but whenever I get a good run of form going in the league I invetiably end up drawing 10 games in a row then can't make up the lost ground. In my time at Leeds I have turned down Inter, Roma, Napoli and Juventus. Thinking if I don't win the league this season I will look for a final move before the game presumably retires me.

I feel like form is overpowered in this edition. If you lose 3 games in a row because you have Liverpool, City and Barcelona in a row, then you can bet your arse Yeovil will be turfing you out of the FA Cup in the next game.

I got this now and started my annual save with Arsenal. Doing alright, haven't really done any signings in the first window which is a first, and I'm actually somehow managing playing with a 4-2-3-1 with an AMC which, amazingly, finds use for Ozil.

Though as always with that formation, while my results are good I always struggle to get the most out of the 3 AMs and especially the AMC, so really I think I'll try to go towards a more traditional 4-1-2-2-1 (4-3-3).

I just find it works better when the midfielders have a little space to run into.

I've started a Bolton save as they have a 12 point deficit at the start of the season and a supposedly weak squad. It's surprisingly easy. 5 wins on the trot and I'm in the top half of the table.

I'm having a cracking time managing Braga this year. The challenge is obviously to compete and eventually surpass the big three and it's proving challenging. The first three seasons saw us swat away Sporting and consistently finish third. With Benfica & Porto exchanging titles we have closed the initial 20 point gap in half to just ten however, our results against the established powers have been woeful winning just 3 games from 19. With such form it's no surprise that our only domestic silverware was the Portuguese Carabao in 2022. Our adventures on European shores have been relentless. Dynamo Minsk, Luzern, BATE, Manchester United, LASK, Getafe, Valencia, Napoli, Galatasaray, Sevilla, Strasbourg, Ludogorets, Sion, Lazio, & Portimonense. We have yet to progress past the Europa League quarter final. :moop:

With my tactical nous nothing to shout about (some variation of 3-5-2), player acquisition is were the the Liga NOS may be won and lost in the years to come. The board quickly established a sell before you buy culture which is par for the course in Portugal.

Season 1 - Diego Rolan (£8.5m) - Pablo Mari (£2.2m) - Willian Arao (£5.5m)
Season 2 - Nikola Jambor (£6m) - Ruben Semedo (£9m) - Ezequiel Avila (£5.5m)
Season 3 - Romain Correia (£1m) - Luis Suarez - (£15m)
Season 4 - Leandro Balerdi (£4m) - Exequiel Palacios (£10m) - Angel Gomes (£2m) - Cristiano Ronaldo (Bosman)

Perhaps the only failing in the four years has been Avila which is strong going. A bigger plus is our ability to retain the likes of the Horta brothers, Xadas, Galeno & Trinaco. The investment from Porto & Sporting has been lacking, Benfica on the other hand have heavily invested in the likes of James Rodriguez, Maxwel Cornet, Goretzka, Anton Miranchuk & Ritsu Doan. Perhaps their most impressive arrival is the addition of PEP (m8) Guardiola who replaced Lage after he took charge of the national side after the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The Catalan wasn't first choice and neither was Luis Castro as both Benfica & Porto offered me the the vacancies first. Ronald Koeman heads up Sporting.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that a 37/38 year old Ronaldo ends his playing days in Portugal.

https://cdn.tv-programme.com/pic/equipes/133/1373.png

Season four was by all accounts bang average. We once again finished third in the league this time amassing our lowest points tally and scoring a miserable 46 goals. We limped out of both domestic competitions in the semi finals and a Griezmann led Barcelona taught us a lesson in the last 16 of the Champions League. Elsewhere Koeman won the Taca de Portugal with Sporting and led them to a second place league finish, leaving Pep M8 to land the title and Porto to languish in fourth. On to the summer...

Season 5: Martinelli (Bosman) - Ronald Araujo (£4.2m) - Fede Valverde (£9.25m) - Juan Hernandez (£7.5m)

A phenomenal window by all accounts and performances on the pitch followed suit. We finally broke our streak of 3rd place finishes going one better behind a rejuvenated Porto. We were never able to keep pace with the Champions, but should be encouraged by our 78 point total (9 adrift). It was in the cups were we really shone collecting both trophies and putting both Benfica and Porto to the sword. Europe remained flat as we fell to Leipzig in the last 16 now managed by Ronald Koeman. Wim Jonk replaced him at Sporting.

With £103m spent (£1m net) in the five years our squad is incredibly solid. I'd argue we are only a top shot stopper away from challenging for the title.

Nah. Was loosely affiliated with the Red Patch Boys for a while but never a full-fledged member. I’ve always thought the ‘Ultra culture’ in MLS is full of sad wankers trying to emulate the worst parts of European ultras without understanding the context of what they are emulating.

In more FM news, I’m going full Wolves and just building a team of Portu(geezers). Bruno Fernandes, Fernando Luis, and Ruben Dias are all starters. Trincao is trying to fight for a place in the squad. Bunch of Portuguese youth in the ranks. Expanding it out to the Lusitanian world more broadly, Alex Telles is a starter as well.

After securing the cup double in my fifth year as manager I fully expected us to push on, but we had a shocker both on and off the pitch. 64 points our lowest tally to date saw us place 4th missing out on the Champions League via goal difference to a rejuvenated Sporting. Porto comfortably retained the title leaving newly appointed Benfica coach Thomas Tuchel to secure both domestic cups. The German didn't last long as he was replaced by the formidable Antonio Conte the following summer. Roger Schmidt saw the continuation of the carousel at Sporting.

Off the pitch we were dealt a few hammer blows. Xadas walked away at the start of the season sighting bigger and better things and club captain Ricardo Horta follow suit at the end of the season. They moved to Bordeaux & Rennes respectively. :moop:

With the Europa league awaiting us and the task of returning to the top three we needed investment. Calvin Stengs (Bosman) was picked up from Manchester United and former La Masia graduate Carlos Alena (£15m) arrived from Aston Villa to bolster my midfield. Following his brother out the door was Andre Horta to Betis for (£25m). The band has well and truly broken up.

Fast forward to May 2026 and somehow we were Liga NOS Champions! December witnessed the start of a 22 game unbeaten which included a 15 game winning streak. Our performance in Europe was equally as strong as only Manchester United and away goals prevented a final appearance. The secret to our success lied with our attacking force with Hernandez (32), Suarez (19), Galeno (21) all putting up their best numbers.

During the summer the board announced we would soon depart the beautiful Estadio Municipal de Braga for a new 45,000 seater home, a move which could usher in a new era of domestic dominance.

I havent bothered looking to change it and also ios is a pain to install logo packs etc unlike mobile on android where you can look into the files so I havent bothered looking into it.

The main irritation with Touch for me is the in app purchase buttons, not sure if you can turn them off but the 'purchase dodgy lasagna' and 'buy magic sponge' buttons really irritate me. It's definitely and upgrade on mobile but hoping reports about it being too easy arent correct as I like trawling the market and turning clubs around.

I'm on the laptop but it's not good enough for the full version. I've sussed the real team name thing out, it was the same as it used to be. Just waiting on a logo pack now. I do agree with you about the purchase buttons too. I wasn't sure what you meant initially but one month in and aye, they are the pay to play things init. Robbo needing a specialist for three months right as the transfer window closes (no signings) did make the magic sponge button tempting though. :moop:

I only bid out of curiosity but it's ready to be confirmed, I just can't bring myself to do it yet as the intention was to not buy a single player and rely on youth when the first team started coming to an end but I am tempted to cash in on Salah so I can get a decade out of Mbappe instead.

Woah, woah, woah, Mike. It's been a while since I have done FM but surely it can't be forgotten how reckless I used to be with the finances. This one requires thought in these uncertain times.

As a side note, I like that you can no longer see the youth intake on a particular date but when do I see what players I do actually have?

Touch, journeyman unemployed career with Sunday league experience. Got a job with Dorking in the VLS won the league exceeding expectations in my first season. Had a wobbly second season in the VNL and scraped avoiding relegation with a win on the last day of the season. Playing possession based attacking football with kids and no transfer budget, just bagged an absolute beast striker for season 3 but hope I can get some real form together, it's interesting dealing with contracts at this level but it would be nice to upgrade to a position of at least knowing players cant just leave when they want soon.

Third season with Dorking was a bust, relegated and runners up in FA Trophy. Resigned and applied for a load of jobs only to end up managing Maidenhead in the same league Dorking have been relegated to. Foolishly just looked at their final league position and objectives and took the job. Turns out half of the good players are unhappy and leaving on free transfers. Had to do some real digging and despite unearthing a few diamond kids I think promotion is going to be a stretch. Fortunately I get the impression failure to get promoted will result in the sack so should be interesting. I don't expect to move up the leagues quickly but wouldn't mind a stint in Spain or Germany's lower leagues to mix it up.

I am managing Atletico in one of my Jman saves and we've given away 9 penalties in 24 games. I thought it would be tactical, but going through them it doesn't seem like it would be (and I've been using this tactic for like 3-4 season now and it wasn't an issue). It just feels like the game is cheating, Real, Barca and Bilbao (the rest of the top 4) have 0 penalties conceded. Pretty annoying.

Started as Kings Lynn and I’ve gone from the VNS to League One in seven seasons. Barely any money and the promotion from League Two felt like a massive fluke as my squad was terrible I still had half a team of part-timers.

Anyway I struck upon an idea, look through all the Premiership U23’s for players whose contracts are expiring at the end of the season. Then from April onwards any who have been scouted and come back as must sign I’m offering £0 for. Means I can tie the transfer up before they get released and all the other clubs come in and blow me away for wages. I’ve signed 9 players who all appear to be better than anything I have at the club with this little tactic and the benefit is rather than them all asking for over 1k a week I’ve managed to bid them all down on wages. Season only finished last week but my squad is pretty much built for next season already.

Buckley Town - Season 2019/20

Season Summary

The media suggested a season of struggle was ahead after predicting us to finish in 16th place but fifteen transfers later the squad had a completely different look about it and it quickly became apparent that we would challenge. Corwen looked as though they would be tricky to catch early doors but they soon started to fall back around Christmas time and Bangor City were more late comers than a consistent thorn in our side.

In truth our position was never really threatened.

https://i.ibb.co/Qn79vzn/league.png

We enjoyed a run on both domestic cups and whilst losing in the semi finals was unfortunately, beating TNS in the Welsh Cup more than erased that memory and qualifies us for the Europa League next season which is an added bonus.

https://i.ibb.co/qCCCpp9/cups.png

If we can keep the majority of the squad together on non-contracts whilst adding a few more numbers than I reckon we should be looking at avoiding relegation from the top flight with ease but I want regular Champions League football, ram packed stadiums and a steady flow of youngsters coming through.

https://i.ibb.co/dk6dRHR/kylesmythscorer.png

A minor fuss was made when Kyle Smyth joined from rivals Flint Town but he answered his critics well with 15 in 42 but with 11 assists also.

https://i.ibb.co/QX78w5V/topscorersamwade.png

After failing to make the grade with Cardiff City, Sam Wade had spent much of his career bumbling around and doing nothing much of note in the Welsh lower divisions, first with Goytre United and then with Llanelli but with 40 goals in 39(1) in his debut season at Buckley he's for sure a keeper.

My Sunderland team have been promoted twice on the bounce and have finished 6th at the first time of asking in the Premiership.

The squad needs investment, but our finances are still shite. £40 million to spend and I have a load of 30 somethings that have their contracts expiring that I really don't want to renew.

Will Grigg in particular is pissing me off. We've had 3 offers for his transfer listed arse, and he's rejected their contracts every time. He's leaving on a free now having sat on the bench all season scratching his arse and, - yes, wait for it - my bank balance is terrified.

My first team striker is currently a 17 year old 'wonderkid' that came through in last years youth crop. He was already Championship standard when he arrived, so worth the work to develop him, but he only bagged 8 goals this season. The fella needs to fix up.

Any decent cheap player recommendations welcome.

Is the ME still getting your full-backs to bomb on and put in back post crosses?

It's a bit more varied than that nowadays, but it still has a lot of the good old stuff, like 3-4 posts every other game, strikers unable to finish 1on1s, wingers shooting from insane angles and the likes. But hey, now you also have VAR. which, if you want to watch highlights means having the referee run all the way to the monitor, look at the monitor and walk back to the pitch to announce the decision (which is always a penalty if the doubt is "penalty or not", or 95% of the times a free kick if the doubt is "inside or outside the area"). And you can't skip it because "realism".

My southport side were able to make it through their first season in the Championship in tact. Some big changes in the summer, having, for the first time, got an actual budget to improve with. Two central midfielders and a centre back already in. I need a striker so bad, but cheap (free) ones are just hard to find.

Sadly it means the end of fan favourite, Will Donkin, who just isn't up to this level anymore, so wasn't offered a new deal. We're in the process of getting a new stadium. Hopefully they name it after this absolute LAD.

Pretty satisfying way to get my first title with Arsenal (29/30 - spent a few years with Dulwich Hamlet, then 3 with Brighton, 2nd season at Arsenal), especially as it came about after being top for months and then giving it up with a collapse into a draw at Villa and 5-1 defeat against Liverpool in the penultimate fixture.

Is it supposed to be so easy? I took over my home town and rattled out a few seasons, we got promoted to the top flight, struggled for the first 2/3 seasons, made the group stages of the Europa Conference once which gave us some hefty funds, following season we went out early doors so I focused on stripping the division of it's good players or rather anyone who wasn't already with TNS. Next season we battered the division and qualified for Champions League for the first time. Straight to the group stages, finished 3rd, knocked someone out of the Europa then got knocked out ourselves.

I'm using DS's tactic with very few alterations but it seems a bit easy. Excusing an 11-0 defeat to Benfica that is. :moop:

Star man is former Arsenal man Nacer Barazite, with Thai bothers Sarachat and Muenta also coming along nicely. Tristan Do agreed a $3.5k-a-week deal. He is worth nowhere near that, but he's 26 and Thai - which means I can offload one foreigner spot and get rid of my current right-back, a Brazilian bloke (who was decent enough) called Vinicius. Both foreign forwards left the club (Bueno & Cuesta), so I have a massive gaping hole up front, with only Muenta as a recognized striker. I agreed a deal for a Brazilian lad for $4m, however, I bottled it - he would only sign a 2 year deal, which realistic means he'll be leaving on a free in 2 years - waste of money. Agreed a deal for North Korean striker Yu-song (Su-yung??), however, I bottled again, this time because his stats were all over the place; decent finishing and pace, but fuck all anything else. Probably malnourished, too. Also signed up German-Thai defender Manuel Bihr from Bangkok - $300k for a national team player, decent third choice CB, and another local player.
Actually heading into the season with 2 or 3 foreigner spots to play with.

Currently managing Scotland and enjoying it to no end. The job began in the midst of qualification for Euro 2020 with the team lying in second place after four games. My debut would see us hold Belgium to a 0-0 slugfest, quickly followed by a narrow win over Kazakhstan. A trip to Cyprus the following month and we turned on the style running away with a 4-0 thrashing courtesy of Griffiths, McBurnie & Armstrong. 7 points from 3 games was ideal, far from ideal was the Russians donning Belgium and ourselves via a 92nd minute winner in Moscow. After squeaking past San Marino 1-0, yes San Marino, we still had hopes of securing automatic qualification knowing Russia played Belgium in game 10. Hazard & Co held up their end of the bargain winning 3-0 however, unable to score more than once in Kazakstan we missed out by one goal.

On to the playoffs were we drew Finland at Hamden Park. Possibly the worst 119 minutes of football ever played was put out of it's misery as Griffiths headed home from a corner to avoid the lottery of penalties. Next up was Norway and we charged out of the gates scoring 3 inside half an hour. The Scandis clawed back two of their own, but we held on and secured our place @ Euro 2020. Joyous.

Our opponents in Group D; Ukraine, Switzerland & England. Spicy stuff. We had a mare in the opening game losing comfortably to Ukraine 2-0. Next up was England, a game in which we had to secure points. Sitting deep and compact we frustrated the Lions all game, the plan was perfect and then Liam Palmer booted one into his net with minutes to spare. Disaster. With the top two decided the pressure was well and truly off in the final game, and it certainly showed as we donned the Swiss 3-0, the third of which was a wonder strike from McGinn. Our showing in the final game proved vital as the three points saw us qualify via one of the final four best loser spots. History made. The second round threw up a familiar foe in the form of Belgium, we had held them before and we did so again. With Italy waiting in the quarter final, the game would be decided on penalties. We missed 3 from 4 and that was that.

Allan McGregor
Palmer
Hanley
Hyam
Cooper
Robertson (c)
Jack
McCrorie
Callum McGregor

Remember that stars are indicative of a players ability against the other players in your team. So if you have a 3.5 CA player, but then you sign a couple of superstars, his rating will reduce to 2.5-3.0 stars. That said, cant say if seen it go up and down so quickly as you mentioned.

Player search is the only thing that comes to mind from 18 backwards, but I'm sure I can live without that.

Remember that stars are indicative of a players ability against the other players in your team. So if you have a 3.5 CA player, but then you sign a couple of superstars, his rating will reduce to 2.5-3.0 stars. That said, cant say if seen it go up and down so quickly as you mentioned.

It's also indicative of how likely they are to reach their potential. A player may have 3 stars for potential in the youth team, but if an injury crisis hits and he gets promoted to first choice right back, then it could easily change to 5 stars within a couple of months.

As you say, only if you want to search for a player, club, country or competition by name, but you can navigate to them via other means.

Look no further than Altinordu F.K. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2017/oct/12/altinordu-dominate-turkish-football-homegrown-players).

That's the one. I've taken it on. (Y) Cheers.

I have the paid for regen faces if anyone wants 'em. They're a million times better. Heffen is best skin, on FMScout.

Will they work for FM Touch? If so then I'll have 'em. I can't figure out how to fix the logo's on FMT either. :moop:
