I bought Japanese whisky (Nikka) for the first time after wanting to try it for quite some time. It’s ok, but I do prefer most Scottish single malts over it.

I think I had the Nikka coffee one but was drunk and can't remember. I really like the Yamazaki though.

I've never used BeerHawk. They good?

Not that I can afford nice things until payday.Beer52 is probably a better selection but BeerHawk seems to have better and more regular deals going on. Apparently I can “invite a friend” and we both get £5 off too, if you want. Just PM your email address if you decide to get anything.

I've just opened banana bread beer by Wells. Initial thoughts are if I had more than one bottle I'd drink this all night. Dangerously good.

True. It could be similar but I do love banana bread.

The wife said she’d pick me a beer out the conservatory to have with my curry. Only got me a bloody stout. :stamford:

I mean it’s really nice, but doesn’t go with a curry. Was hoping for that can of piss lager I still have from Switzerland.

Got a bottle of Blackwoods 60 gin at Christmas that I've been putting off opening because the very notion of sixty percent gin gives me gut rot. Opened it last night and good heavens, it's dangerous. It doesn't taste significantly stronger than normal stuff but it will blow your head off.

Keeping it clean with a few bottles of Staropramen, which, given I'm going to be up at 6 in all likelihood is a poor idea.

Certainly in Scotland brewpubs seem to be becoming more of a thing, though probably slow. In Shilling in Glasgow you can see all the gear where they brew their stuff through glass behind the bar.

Some Irish stuff on in Brewdog, Giggles.

White Hag - The Puca
Kinnegar - Noch Eins
Kinnegar - Big Bunny
Dot Brewing - American Stout
Boundary - Gift

Had any of them? The first sounds like it'd be lovely or awful with lemongrass, ginger (alright, Magic?) and hibiscus. Last one just sounds like a big, beefy stout you could damage yourself on.

Then brother in law gave me that White Hag one before and I was very dubious after reading the can but it's gorgeous stuff. Hard enough to get too. I remember trying a load of other White Hag stuff after that and it's all lovely. Any Kinnegar I had was always good too.

So I had The Puca and Gift. Both are nice. Puca is far less weird than it sounds and would be bang on for guzzling in a beer garden in summer. Gift is basically the strong stout you described us getting wankered on in a theoretical meet in the last WDYTOE.

Only just thought, which Puca was it? I've had the yellow can and pink can. I'm presuming pink when you said ginger but there might be others.

EDIT: Ah I see the hibiscus now, so it was the pink. That was my favourite. The yellow is a lemon sour.

I was thinking exactly the same as you about horsing it into on an all dayer in a beer garden. Need to get a few cans, there's an off-licence in Fairview that sells them. Close to that Bru spot I was in actually if I had thought.

Just went down to the offie get some White Hag (Damn you Ian), they had the lemon sour and got some of the session IPA too. The lad asked me if I wanted a bag and he gave me a tidy little Franciscan Well 6 tin cooler bag for free.

EDIT: Got a can of White Hag New England IPA and a stout called Laídir which should be good because it's the Irish word for strong. Never tasted either before.

Got some promising stuff at Good Spirits Co, yesterday.

Couple of Tiny Rebel ones (Stay Puft and Chocolate Stay Puft, two variants on a marshmallow porter, which is a new one on me but I love Tiny Rebel's stuff so I have high hopes), Nøgne Ø (had to copy-paste the funny vowels) Imperial Stout and one of had before and is one of my favourites: Caribbean Chocolate Cake.

What an evening it's going to be.

EDIT: The two Tiny Rebel ones were nice, this Imperial Stout is very nice indeed.

Had a bottle of this (https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/harviestoun-ola-dubh-4012-year-old41/84035/) tonight. Fucking divine.

Washed it down with one of these (https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/swannay-orkney-porter/98929/) which was pretty great as well.

Whilst I'm here, Inn Deep currently have an excellent sour-ish amber ale called Deep Red (https://untappd.com/b/freak-n-brewing-company-deep-red/1896706) on tap. It's a real pity that it costs about eight quid a pint.

Picked up some bottles of this (https://www.flavourly.com/products/hercules-belfast-pale-ale/) today in Newry. Not expecting a big pile as stuff like IPA would be seen as for 'fruity boys' in the wee country, but it was only 72p a bottle.

What is the deal with those black can holder things Brewdog (in particular) seem to be fans of? I assume it's an environmental thing, but then why have they made them black (the least recyclable plastic colour)? They're also an absolute pain in the arse to liberate the beers from as well. Long live the Seagull killers.

Basically eliminated weekday drinking, and have a vague unwritten rule that I get 4 pints tipsy every other weekend and allow myself to GET ON IT every other weekend. "Had" to get gin as a substitute for some stupid chinese cooking wine, and rejected the £3 miniature cus it was awful value for money and thought to myself "it's probably a false economy if i end up needlessly drinking it on weekday evenings, but I'll be alright". Obviously I'm on my 3rd double of the evening, but fuck it. G&T weather, ennit?

Also does anyone else suffer with ale hangovers? I can drink gallons of spirits or cheap lager and be alright the next day, but last friday I had four sub-4% ales and had a fucking stonker all Saturday. I even showered, ate well, and went on a long walk in the sunshine but I was still hanging out my arse when I went to bed.

I’m staying here (https://www.pentahotels.com/destinations/europe/united-kingdom/ipswich/). The bar charges £5 a pint, there’s a PlayStation, a FREE POOLTABLE, it encourages the bants and - worst of all - half the people I’m training are here, so I’d have to socialise. Fuck that.

I’ll sit here with my disappointing beer, a BBC documentary about babies about to die, TTH and try to resist wrapping the curtain tie around my neck.

I've only ever had to stay in a hotel for work once, it was dead fun.

Was in Birmingham for a museum industry conference. Despite living 30 minutes away on the train, my 60-something American boss paid for a hotel for me because "hey Igor, I guess you've never gone somewhere "ON BUSINESS", so I thought you might enjoy it". On day one of two she got really pissed cus the restaurant she went to get lunch in caught on fucking fire so they sent them to a bar with vouchers for a couple of hours to say sorry, then came back and loudly called some bloke at another company a creep, then said "Y'know what Igor, this conference kinda sucks, hotel is still paid for so you can stick around if you fancy it, take tomorrow off".

I took a four pack of stella back to my room, watched about 4 hours of an Australia vs New Zealand test match, then ambled home the next day. I fucking loved that boss.

What's the best supermarket for a range of decent beers? Going away for a long weekend with a few other couples so will be taking a few cans/bottles (we almost had a 72 pint keg coming with us but decided against it considering we all have babies) and will go to a supermarket to stock up sometime this week. Also, any suggestions for specific beers welcomed.

Can’t wait to try Dinkelacker. Might be a mistake to get it first drink (imagine going a beer festival full of potentially okay-to-iffy beers but starting with a lovely pint of Erdinger, would you wanna switch? I would cos the risk is part of the enjoyment, but it could end up in multiple pints of disappointment) but I probably will.

Going at 12 this time too, whereas last time we only got there at about 3:30, so loads more time. Rugby doesn’t start til 6 so hopefully by then we’ll be drunk and skint and happy to go home before it gets too rammed.

Got my Beer52 box today so I'm just getting the Pilsener out of the way first.

The Balkan one? It's alright so far - bit too heavy for me, kinda like the Polish one. Nothing that's really stood out.

Yeah that's the one. Only about to go for the next one now the pils is out of the way.

Why do you get it if you don’t enjoy it?

I think it's part of a pack with other beers in it.

Dundee brewed IPA/L 71 IPL. Decent.

Take your tampon off the table.

Is it a clothes peg? Not that I'm surprised, was probably part of the food presentation.

Clothes peg on the menu for the bin beers.

There's some surprisingly wanky places in Dundee including a speak'easy.

Yeah it's a subscription thing and they send you a bunch of beers with a theme. So this one's theme was the Balkan. I've been quite happy with the others I've had so far I just think pilseners are a total waste of time.

Pilsners are easily the best type of beer

This Ailyak New England IPA is a bit more like it.

It’s alright, but ‘best’? Mate.

This Pozoj IPA is the best one I've had out of this box. Left all the dark ones until last.

Pilseners are fine if you want something on a hot day and don't want to be impeded by anything confusing like flavour.

I wish I could just sample a few cans of poncy IPA of an evening. Having "a couple" has never done shit for me. Just end up feeling tired and sloppy whilst simultaneously wanting to keep drinking until I'm wankered.

Being provided with the telephone number of a private pharmacist who delivers locally has introduced a new issue, in that I find it very difficult to resist texting him when I am properly pissed, and I really can't afford it and it makes me feel like shit for days afterwards. I would just stop drinking entirely but real life can be quite boring. Currently experimenting with a teetotalism work pattern of ~6 weeks on, 1 day off, and just accepting the inevitability of getting into a dodgy man's car (not like that) at some point.

I had a bottle of non-alcoholic Cuba Libra today.

Tasted exactly like one. Felt pissed driving home.

Never seen Giggs mention the stuff in fairness (although it can be filed under ‘alright’ too).

You want dark ales 6%+ if you want to be a swagger don.

Even More Jesus is still an amazing stout. Fucking deadly in a pint can at 12% though.

Pints of Jet Black Heart now. First milk stout I ever drank that wasn't vile.

Oh now I like a milk stout. Jet Black Heart is what my dad tends to have in.

Yeah, I bought a crate of that a while ago and it was alright.

On the subject, I'm just working my way through a box of Bad Co (http://wearebad.co/product/mixed-12-pack/) stuff and I think I'm going to try the milk stout. Rest of it has been pretty decent.
